Where to Find Super-Nostalgic Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup in Portland - Eater Portland

"This American department store has a cafe in its downtown location, and its grilled cheese has a cult like-following around the United States. The “kiddie grilled cheese,” available for all ages, is served on Klosterman’s organic wheat bread with white cheddar cheese, and the “adult” sandwich is made on sourdough bread with grilled asparagus and white cheddar cheese between the slices. As for the soup, it’s a Roma tomato version with basil, sold separately." - Joy Church

Google
A great place to go for lunch or an early dinner. The range of food is excellent ranging from sandwiches to salmon and pasta. The dishes are very well prepared and presented including warm rolls with a garlic cream cheese spread. The spinach and artichoke dip was a tasty cheesy warm generous sized dip served with grilled bread points. The mushroom ravioli was served with a creamy sauce with sliced mushrooms, and the grilled salmon was accompanied with roasted fingerling potatoes and green beans. Nordstrom continues to maintain quality choices

Stopped by here for a quick bite after shopping, and we were pretty satisfied with what we ordered. I recommend the chicken pesto gnocchi and the spinach dip! Customer service was great, and the food came out in a timely manner.

Yummy food and good service. I had the roasted cauliflower with the goddess salad. And we had the (current special) strawberry shortcake for dessert. Even though the prices here are a bit high for my liking, gotta say the portion size does justify that in some way. And the experience here is nice too. All in all a good experience.

The food and services here were excellent, as was the “strawberry sangria.” Well worth the visit. I came on the recommendation of a local while visiting the area. The view of pioneer square was also well worth the visit. The hamburger and chips were also excellent.

It is a pay before service. Order and pay for your meal when you get in then proceed to the table where a staff would take care of your order. The service was quick, and food was good. Particularly loved the clam chowder.

This cafe located in top floor of Nordstrom. They are upscale style cafe. In the cafe, you can watch Portland downtown and people.

The employees are very welcoming and friendly. I had fast service Little annoying that you can’t tip at the machine, you have to tell the employee to charge you for a tip but other than that, an overall good experience.

The coffee is good, but today I got it boiling hot, I couldn’t drink it or even hold it. Had to wait for 10 minutes before I could start drinking it and it was still super hot. [outdoor location]

Yelp
Didn't know that this place exists until recently! They offer a mix of sandwiches, pasta, other entreés, and bakery so there's certainly something for everyone! We got the Santa Fe Panini that was nice and crispy on the outside and full of flavorful chicken on the inside. We got a side of ceasar salad with the dish that was also tasty and cheesy. We also split the Mushroom Ravioli. It's way better than we expected! Big raviolis full of meaty mushroom covered in plenty of cream sauce. Love how many raviolis they gave you as well. A super solid spot for quick bites or some snacks. The ambience is pretty chill. Staffs were friendly too!

Yelp
Been coming here since I was a kid! Hands down THE BEST least expected food!!! Their salads...... cost an arm and a leg, but so satisfying! Worth it to me! Soup and salads! Must try! Also, their crostini's! I get 20 Togo for my mom each time.

Yelp
A bit of a hidden gem with fantastic paninis! A simple and small cafe hidden on the 3rd floor of the nordstrom overlooking pioneer square, with far better food than what you would expect from a department store cafe!

Yelp
Great staff and service. Came here twice just because of the first experience on our trip to Portland. Thanks.

Yelp
If not for the generic ambiance, I would give this restaurant, in the 3rd floor of Nordstrom, 5 stars. For what it is, a restaurant--and just what you want when you're shopping--in an upscale department store, it's perfect! Hungry whilst shopping, but don't want to move on to another store and stop in between? Nordstrom's gotcha covered! And not just that, but the food is very good! You order at the counter and then get service at your table. They have soups, salads, appetizers, and sandwiches, a couple of other entrées, as well. Desserts look tempting and there are beverages, including wine. I had my go-to fave here and what I long for when I'm not, the salmon Niçoise salad. The salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly and a large portion. Spring greens, roasted fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, calamata olives, capers, hericots vert, and boiled eggs round out this well-balanced salad with a light vinaigrette. It was delicious and filled me up all afternoon. Hubby got the salmon entree. It had steamed vegetables and a lemony Israeli couscous. His was good too, but when he tasted the Niçoise, he wished he'd chosen that. Okay, I'll say it, we came for the restaurant (pre play at the Keller) and then did some shopping!

Yelp
Nice fresh food, delicious, big portions. I wish Cafe worked at least until 8PM. Best place to have a lunch around Pioneer place. Minuses: Small menu Doesn't have coffee (only drip coffee) Closed during dinner hours

Yelp
The service was great. This cafe is located at the top so there was a wonderful view of downtown Portland. The creme brûlée was very good. It has the perfect burnt sugar top crust. It was a pretty good size serving, enough for 2 people.

Yelp
Wow...just wow. Cafe Nordstrom downtown is one of those spots that don't get enough recognition, and I kind of like keeping this knowledge to myself! XD This is one of the best spots downtown to grab lunch, rivaling all the other restaurants. Wonderful, no-fuss service, great food, reasonable prices, and the views alone are stunning! Not to mention it's smack-dab in the middle of the square. As far as food goes, you can count on quality ingredients and an intense flavor palette. Their salads are always fresh and worth the money, deserts are decadent, and pastas are delicious. The one thing I always make sure to order is the tomato soup! Never overlook a good tomato soup, and it comes with cheesy bread. I like that they make it a point to frequently switch it up with specialty/seasonal items. If the steak risotto ever comes back I will die a happy woman indeed.

Yelp
I stop in here often. The idea is to offer excellent food and great prices, so as to encourage you to stay and shop all day. It.Works. So, beware! I love to stop in for afternoon tea and a Royalle cookie (macadamias, chocolate chips, all the goodies, and it's both crispy on the outside and moist inside... YUM). I've had some really good grilled cheese here and the hidden gem is the wine by the glass selection. Oh, that's not going to loosen my purse strings AT ALL ;) here's to shopping sloshed!

Yelp
First stop during our marathon bridesmaid/bridal dress shopping day. I got the sante fe chicken sandwich and a glass of chardonnay. My mom got a cup of the tomato soup and a glass of wine. The service was great and the food was so yummy. Great start to a busy day.

Yelp
Convenient cafe in Nordstrom. I ordered a seasonal lentil and sausage soup along with a kale and brussel sprout salad. The salad was good, the soup was overly salty. I was in the area on business so no wine which is really the main thing this place has going for it as there are endless eating options downtown.

Yelp
The staff is very nice. My bacon on my club sandwich was almost RAW. The fruit side dish was EXPIRED looking and had MUSHY strawberries and grapes. I mentioned to the waitress about the bacon and she said I will let the chef know, and not let me get you some more bacon or take it off the bill. The iced tea is good, but $3.55 is a lot. My kids like the Mac and cheese, but that is over $6.00 which I think is pricey.

Yelp
Highly recommend the Chicken Caesar salad! Had that for lunch yesterday and I loved the dressing. I like a good amount of parmesan and caesar dressing and they gave the right amount. Definitely a good salad option and a big portion for the price.
