The 38 Best Restaurants in Seoul, South Korea | Eater

"Opened in 2016, Cafe Onion revolutionized the Seoul cafe scene with its first location in a converted factory in Seongsu, signaling the beginning of the former industrial zone’s transformation into a trendy hub filled with fashion brands and pop-up stores. Each of its four locations occupies a unique historic building, but the third branch in Anguk stands out for its stunning renovation of a century-old hanok. Combining modern design with traditional Korean aesthetics, the cafe offers a serene escape with expertly brewed coffee from house-roasted beans and a selection of freshly baked pastries. Vibe check: Takeout lines tend to be shorter, but for the best experience, wait for a seat inside." - Matty Kim

The Best Bakeries in Seoul to Visit on a Pastry Tour of the City

"Housed in a lovingly restored hanok, this location emphasizes slowing down and socializing in a traditional wooden setting where patrons are encouraged to remove their shoes and even sit on the floor. In addition to eye-catching creations such as a mountain-shaped Pandoro dusted with powdered sugar, the ambiance—a careful blend of historic architecture and modern patisserie—makes it a destination as much for the setting as for the pastries." - Katie Chang

This cafe was unique in that it’s located in a historic Korean home. Very cool indoor seating and an outdoor area to sit as well. The pastry’s looked and tasted amazing! As did the Earl Grey signature milk tea. We enjoyed the seasonal special croissant with a yummy creamy cheese filling and fresh figs. There was a quicker pick up or seat outside line than the inside seating line.

There was a long line in the morning around 9:30am. If you don't want to dine in, you can skip and go in to order rather than wait in line. When we were finally seated, we had to go back to choose our food and order drinks, so another line. It's a cute place, but depending on the wait may not be worth it. We tried their signature vanilla one that looked like Mt Fuji. It was just a tall mond of powdered sugar and a vanilla cake underneath. I would skip it. The meat pizza was very flavorful. It included ground beef, sundried tomatoes, and roasted eggplants. The fig cream was good too, but quite heavy on the cream. A nice strong tea or coffee might help.

Onion Café has such a cool vibe — beautiful interiors and great food (the pastries and coffee are really good!). The only downside is the wait after ordering — it takes quite a while for things to arrive, especially when it’s busy. Still, it’s a lovely spot to relax if you’re not in a rush.

The selection of pastries in this cafe is insane. It'll take you a good half hour trying to decide what to get. You'd wish you had 2 or more stomachs. And when you finally decide, you'd likely wish you had picked the other one that got away. You'd also likely try to find a way to squeeze in another visit to this cafe before you leave the country. The pastries really are that good.

Onion Cafe in Anguk is a truly unique experience, set inside a charming 100-year-old Hanok (traditional Korean house). The atmosphere is a major draw, with a beautiful open courtyard where you can sit at tables or on the floor. We lucked out with a wait of less than 10 minutes and were assigned a table inside. The bakery process is fun: you walk over to select your pastries from a wide array. We had to try the famous original "snowcapped" bread—a soft, sweet bun with a light dusting of sugar powder. It was delicious, though I wished it was served warm to elevate it even further. The real star was the pizza bread, filled with sweet shredded onions and topped with pesto sauce; it was an incredible savory-sweet combination and the highlight of our visit! For drinks, we went for the playful homemade cola, which had a unique, almost herbal "soul essence," and a perfectly sweet vanilla bean latte. Overall, it was a wonderful coffee break, made memorable by the beautiful Korean-style setting and unique baked goods

I would recommend this place. There was a small wait to get inside as this place is so popular. You have the option to sit outside on tables or inside on the floor. There was a variety in selection of pastries and it was clearly signposted what items had pork in which I appreciated. I would recommend the bagel!

One of the best bakeries in the city with this location being Very very popular due to its central location so expect to wait in line for a table. the interior renovation of an old building provides a lovely atmosphere for a snack! The cream cheese onion baguette is my personal favorite, with the pistachio salt bread being my second (*we didn't try everything though).

I love Onion - the vibes are so nice and I love the seating area. Definitely be prepared to wait in a bit of a line if you go on the weekends, though. There is a separate line for take-out orders. You will queue in the. line if you want to dine-in, and they will seat you at a table. You'll drop off your items and then get in another line to get your pastries, and then order your drinks. They have a really great selection of both sweet (but not too sweet) and savory pastries. The staff is always patient and they bring out more fresh pastries throughout the day.
