London’s New Restaurant Openings

"We don’t know what we’re more excited about, the fact that Tendril has a little sibling in Somerset House, or that we can now buy the white bean spread and tiramisu we raved about to takeaway. Café Petiole is an all-day, ‘mostly vegan’ spot with an adorable buttercup yellow colour scheme and 1930s tables and chairs. There are no reservations, but if we have to queue to try the espresso chocolate chip cookie, we will. There’ll also be interesting-sounding sandwiches, dips and breads, and salads.  We recently checked out Café Petiole. Read our first thoughts here. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Café Petiole Review - Strand - London - The Infatuation

"Café Petiole is a bright, charming spot inside Somerset House that clearly went to the Tim Walker school of colour theory. We’re talking blush pink tables, yellow-washed walls, and additional pops of colour courtesy of the hearty chunks of sweet potato and homemade pickles in the daily lunchtime spreads on the counter. It’s from the people behind Tendril in Mayfair, and almost all of the dishes here are vegan, but don’t expect simple, leafy greens—think herby hispi cabbage with impressively creamy orzo and seasonal filo rolls instead. You can eat in or grab and go, but either way ordering the soft, still-gooey espresso chocolate cookie is mandatory. It closes at 6pm but if you’re around the Strand, it’s also a great shout for a post-work (or dare we say, pre-work) order of boozy tiramisu." - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Stepping into Cafe Petiole was like walking into a warm hug for my taste buds, my conscience, and the planet! This isn't just a cafe; it's a vibrant testament to how incredibly delicious, innovative, and satisfying food can be when it's crafted with compassion at its core. Every single dish on their menu is a celebration of plant power, proving unequivocally that we don't need animal products to create culinary magic. You can taste the quality ingredients and the passion behind every creation. Bravo team Cafe Petiole!

We recently enjoyed brunch at Cafe Petiole, where we indulged in a delicious vegan meal. Each dish was a feast for the eyes, showcasing remarkable creativity. The ingredients were fresh and seasonal, adding to the overall appeal. The cheesecake, in particular, is an absolute must-try. Non-vegans (myself included), prepare to be amazed! The service was delightful, and the ambiance offered a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of London.

What a wonderful spot in a historical setting. Almost everything is vegan and they have a great mix of sweet and savory options offering good value for its location. The Basque Cheesecake was outstanding! Creamy and decadent. The Almond, Fennel Seed and Morello Cherry Cake complimented it well. Highly recommended!

No photos here but the pecan cake is highly recommended too. Quiche is light and refreshing!

This place used to be decent but the quality and portions have dropped significantly. I got the almond cherry cake and all I can taste is the salt and baking soda?! The texture is terribly dry and hard. Awful. Also it used to be 2x the size. I was a fan but will NOT be coming back.

Such a great place! There was a bit of a mix up with my order which meant there was a ten minute wait for my food (which I was absolutely happy to wait with this amazing view). They were very apologetic, and even gave me a free sample of cheesecake (which was so yummy). I would really recommend the banana and walnut cake. I will definitely be coming here again.

Totally perfect. Enjoyed a varied selection of sandwiches, salads and hot drinks for lunch here and WOW. Despite being so FULL, the quality of the food and setting inspired us to have some dessert too which was obviously mindblowing. Get the tiramisu.
