Café Petiole, a charming mostly vegan gem in Somerset House, serves vibrant, seasonal dishes like creamy orzo and decadent cheesecake in a colorful, cozy setting.
"We don’t know what we’re more excited about, the fact that Tendril has a little sibling in Somerset House, or that we can now buy the white bean spread and tiramisu we raved about to takeaway. Café Petiole is an all-day, ‘mostly vegan’ spot with an adorable buttercup yellow colour scheme and 1930s tables and chairs. There are no reservations, but if we have to queue to try the espresso chocolate chip cookie, we will. There’ll also be interesting-sounding sandwiches, dips and breads, and salads. We recently checked out Café Petiole. Read our first thoughts here. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak
"Café Petiole is a bright, charming spot inside Somerset House that clearly went to the Tim Walker school of colour theory. We’re talking blush pink tables, yellow-washed walls, and additional pops of colour courtesy of the hearty chunks of sweet potato and homemade pickles in the daily lunchtime spreads on the counter. It’s from the people behind Tendril in Mayfair, and almost all of the dishes here are vegan, but don’t expect simple, leafy greens—think herby hispi cabbage with impressively creamy orzo and seasonal filo rolls instead. You can eat in or grab and go, but either way ordering the soft, still-gooey espresso chocolate cookie is mandatory. It closes at 6pm but if you’re around the Strand, it’s also a great shout for a post-work (or dare we say, pre-work) order of boozy tiramisu." - Heidi Lauth Beasley
