The 17 Best New Restaurants in Tel Aviv, Israel | Eater

"Celebrity chef Avi Levy is behind the kitchen at Popular, which easily lives up to its name among the city’s young and fashionable crowd. The menu focuses on bold and spicy seafood dishes, Mediterranean renditions of meat classics like Israeli roast beef, phyllo cigars filled with Jerusalem mixed grill (chicken hearts, spleen, and liver), and vegetable-centric dishes like potato carpaccio and roasted cabbage steaks. The weekend brunch is one of the most loved in the city, due to the boundless salads and the lengthy menu with dishes like ceviche with sour cream, beef bourguignon, and scrambled eggs with mushroom ragu. The all-inclusive menu costs a mere 98 shekels ($27) per-person." - Keren Brown

This is going to be lengthy. My friends and I came here to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Here we go: - Drinks: were very good, even though it took ages to bring them. Some second dishes were served before the drinks got to our table. - First dishes: the portions are small. You must be aware of that before ordering anything. The price does not match the size. But they all were tasty. - Raw tuna - I had a dish that had a tuna slice and ricotta cheese. The tuna was ok, the ricotta cheese, homemade, was EXCELLENT. sweet, savory, creamy, absolutely wonderful. I couldn’t get enough. The dish was about 75₪. - Main dishes - I didn’t have any, but the friends who did told me it was very tasty (and a bit expensive for the portions). - Desserts - we had two desserts, I personally didn’t like any, but the table seemed to eat it up (we were quite hungry after eating small portions). - Service - even though both the dishes and drinks took some time to arrive (the former legitimate, the latter not do much), the servers really took it to heart and tried to apologize and fix the issue. It still took some time for drinks to arrive but at least they weren’t rude about it. They were all very welcoming. Conclusion: don’t look for a cheap dinner here. It really looks like everyone is trying their best and the food does look high quality and very well made, but I don’t know if it’s worth the price tag. For example, some of us ended up paying 300-450 each. I’d love to come back for a better run. The service and atmosphere really saved it from being a bad review. I suggest you come to make your own opinion :)

If you're in Tel Aviv and you're lucky enough to be near Dizengoff Street, called the "5th Avenue" of the TLV or so I've been told, do yourself a favor and check out this amazing restaurant. I ate here twice during my week-long stay in TLV and honestly, I would’ve gone back a third time if my schedule had allowed. Also I plan to come back and eat here every night lol. The staff here is exceptional. They are warm, welcoming, and attentive. Even though their English wasn’t perfect, they went out of their way to make sure I felt comfortable, understood the menu, and had everything I needed. It’s clear they care deeply about providing a great experience for their guests. Now, let’s talk food. This place takes the concept of culinary excellence to another level. The octopus dish with brioche was a standout. The octopus was tender and perfectly cooked, and the brioche was buttery and delicious—an unexpected but brilliant pairing. I’m not even usually a fan of beets, but the salad with beets and pistachios was so well-executed that it made me reconsider my opinion of them. The vinaigrette was sharp and tangy, cutting through the earthy flavor of the beets in a way that completely transformed the dish. On my second night, I tried for the bread plate, which came with butter that was impossibly smooth and flavorful. I have a bread + butter addiction when I leave the USA. I paired that with the ceviche with almond milk. Trust me, I was skeptical at first—it sounded unusual, but it ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the entire trip. Dipping the bread in the ceviche was an experience I won’t forget. For my main, I had the lamb dish, which was a kind of stuffed lamb dumpling. It was extremely sour but still deeply satisfying. Finally, I let the waiter pick his favorite dessert for me, since there was no written menu and the language barrier made it hard for him to describe the dishes to me. What I got was a white custard-like pudding with white chocolate, pistachios, and candied cashews. It was absolutely heavenly—smooth, rich, and the perfect end to an unforgettable meal. This restaurant made my time in Tel Aviv even more special. The combination of amazing food, attentive service, and a warm atmosphere made it a highlight of my visit. Whether you’re a local or a traveler, this place is definitely worth checking out. Also, sit outside alone if possible. I love dining alone because I can really focus on the food and myself!

One of the best brunches i've eaten. The service was fast and kind, every dish was delicious and the best part is that you don’t have to choose from the menu :) not so expensive considering the amount of food you get, good value for money. Must book a table in advance.

Food was OK, although nothing spectacular. Service was OK, although nothing to remember. Interior design was pleasant, although nothing too unique. Outdoor tables were spaced so tightly, with chair so heavy that it was really hard to get seated, and get out. We felt that price was very high for the culi art experience, and the rest didn't "compensate"

It feels like the vegetarian main dishes are all really side dishes. They are tasty and diverse though. Had a nice night out though in Tel Aviv there probably better places to check out first.

Came here for brunch and it was beautiful - three rounds of increasingly delicious courses, they were accommodating of pescatarians, vegetarians, etc. and the service was mostly friendly and efficient (though we had to wait for coffee for a while and remind them a couple of times). Would definitely recommend!

Popular is exactly what the name says. My wife and I visited on a Monday night and the place was packed and full of life. The plates were very inventive and included a foie gras baklava and eggplant falafel. That worked great because my wife is vegetarian and I’m more of an experimental eater. The Israeli wine (Flam Merlot) was also incredible and, like the food, some of the best we’ve had in recent memory. I’d also like to give a special shout out to the artist that did the walls and napkins. Make sure to read what the big wall says for a fun surprise.

We had brunch with some friends on Saturday noon. The place has a nice atmosphere, great breeze when sitting outside. The service is extraordinary and the food is great. We ordered the brunch fix menu and good quality brunch tapas started appearing on our table. The Tapas were innovative and tasty. We really liked the scramble eggs with truffle cream, and the Mesabaha (with Meat, Hummus and Lentils).
