"Housed inside the Neue Galerie, this elegant Viennese-style dining room delivers classic Central European fare and pastry service reminiscent of an old-world salon. The menu from a chef with Michelin-house experience features Hungarian goulash, Bavarian weissewurst and a widely praised wiener schnitzel, alongside show-stopping desserts such as linzer torte and feuilletine. The room’s period details—Josef Hoffmann lamps, Adolf Loos furnishings and banquettes upholstered in Otto Wagner textiles—create a refined, museum-adjacent atmosphere; museum admission isn’t required but reservations are recommended." - Emily Saladino
"This Viennese cafe in the Neue Galerie is useful for a fancy breakfast or lunch near Central Park, especially if you like the sound of drinking bracingly strong kaffee creme next to a Bösendorfer grand piano. We usually order wienerschnitzel (the best in the city) or bavarian sausage served with a soft pretzel, and sweets like sachertorte and apfelstrudel." - sonal shah, willa moore, will hartman, neha talreja
"If you haven’t eaten enough wienerschnitzel in your life, you’re in luck. Café Sabarsky is just a three-minute walk from the Guggenheim—and is located right inside the Neue Galerie, NYC’s excellent German and Austrian art museum. The restaurant is walk-in only during the day, though you shouldn’t have much of a problem if you’re going between prime meal times. In case there's a long wait, ask if you can be seated downstairs. It’s slightly less atmospheric, but the kaffee creme is just as creamy." - neha talreja, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick
"This Viennese cafe is on the first floor of the Neue Gallery, across the street from Central Park. Breakfast is our favorite meal here, and it always starts either with a kaffe krème or an einspänner. If you’re a sweet breakfast person, get an order of kaiserschmarren, a fluffy caramelized dessert pancake that's chopped up and served with roasted fruit, toasted almond flakes, and precisely 18 cranberries." - molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, kenny yang, carina finn koeppicus
"Talking too loud in a museum ought to be a finable offense. At Cafe Sabarsky in the Neue Galerie, no one is breaking the law. The elegant Viennese restaurant is ideal for a hush-hush brunch of weisswurst and strudel on the Upper East Side." - molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, willa moore, will hartman, sonal shah
