"Cafe Suspiro, grand opening in October but open for limited service now, is named after Sanchez’s grandfather’s tiny shop (a tiendita) in Colotlan, Mexico, in the state of Jalisco. It translates as a sigh of relief. Sanchez was a barista at Vega Coffee, which doled out espressos in the exact same location, 13 years ago — he was the shop’s first hire. “I want to keep that familiarity with the folks in the neighborhood,” Sanchez says of this next chapter. Before this business venture, he left Vega to try out digital marketing (not quite as satisfying as the cafe world) before returning in 2014. When Vega owners John Quintos and Kirk Harper decided to offer Sanchez the keys to the shop this summer, he rose to the occasion. Now, he’s proud to open an outdoor coffee bar right on the sidewalk under the new moniker and with an updated approach. Coffee goes for $4, the location’s well-loved drink the Macau Iced Coffee goes for $5.75, and new additions such as Raul’s Mexican Mocha and a horchata latte will run you $6. As for the beans, Cento Coffee, which Vega used for eight years, is a San Francisco-based roaster Sanchez likes because the small company is personable. “It’s a really nice roast. The medium blend is a great, chocolate-y profile,” Sanchez says." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
Organic food options!! Love the vibe at Suspiro with vintage records and tapes! Definitely worth a trip. Lots of o80’s memories in there. Great tasting coffee with some tasty snacks thrown in for good measure. They had a decently diverse selection of foods and snacks that even included an organic salad. Definitely check Suspiro out!

I was helped by someone I assume was the owner and they couldn't have been nicer! Love the vibe of this tiny shop and will definitely return. A SoMa gem!

The best coffee ever! Next level croissants too. Their sweatshirt is now my go-to top! And the staff-yes please!

The barista makes an excellent espresso and the service is excellent! I bought a really good book while I waited and sat on their sidewalk seating while I enjoyed my new book & espresso. This is the kind of local business that makes San Francisco great!

Google
Great spot for excellent coffee, friendly baristas and a pure SF vibe to it all. Besides coffee and pastry offerings, Cafe Suspiro has a well curated selection of books and vinyl to shop. It’s a cafe definitely worth going out of the way for.

Google
Great vibe, fun that’s it’s in a garage. Coffee and selection is pretty mid. Especially for the price, not as bad as sextant though. Would be so happy if they kicked up the quality a notch or two, but hey that’s just one guys opinion! Go check it out and form one for yourself :)

Google
I loved this coffee shop. Sometimes coffee places try to do too much and offer 101 different flavors and styles but I think this place does it just right. The coffee was so delicious and flavorful, I can’t wait to return for my morning cup on my way to work.

Yelp
Yes. Espresso. Food. Vibe. Music. Records. Owner/Staff. Outdoor patio. Yes.

Yelp
What a great coffee shop! I had to meet a friend who has an art studio abive this coffee shop. I stopped in and what a great surprise. Coffee is fantastic and there are marvelous pastries to be had. And service is friendly and professional. What a great jewel for this neighborhood.

Yelp
Absolute gem. It's tucked away and has a pretty small storefront, so very easy to miss, but you should definitely come by and give it a try! I got their horchata latte, and it was fantastic. The coffee itself had great balance to it, and the milk to coffee ratio was good too. The flavoring was amazing; not too sweet at all, but just a very soothing creaminess that was wonderful on a colder day. The interior is also super cool; lots of records, their own beans for puchase, and a bit of seating outside. Would highly highly recommend, and I will certainly be back myself!

Yelp
Used to be vega. Love it. Small nice little random space. Please stay in biz bc you aren't bougie

Yelp
Came by for coffee the other day after having lunch in the area. The coffee shop seems to be a repurposed garage and record shop. There are a few patio tables/bars in front of the coffee bar. Ordered a latte and it was tasty. Smooth espresso and milk temperature was perfect. There was also plenty of foam too! Had a chocolate croissant as a side and it was decent. ~$9.5 for a coffee and pastry!

Yelp
Lovely small coffee shop. Very easy to miss since it's a little venue. I ordered their mocha horchata and it was delicious. They even offered me a sample biscoff and it went perfectly well with the mocha. I hope to come back again and maybe stay and finish the drink outside their small patio.

Yelp
Super cute coffee chop that is Records themed in Soma. I got the Eddie's Horchata latte and my friend got the Mexican mocha. The Barista was super friendly and was very helpful with the questions I had. It was fun to browse through their record collection while we waited for our drinks to be made. Their pain au chocolate had the perfect level of melted chocolate!

Yelp
Not only is Cafe Suspiro my new favorite place for grabbing coffee before work, but it's also the only record shop in SOMA! The owner, Raul, is so friendly and was the first barista hired 13 yrs ago when the place was Cafe Vega. A musician at heart, he bought the place last year and started selling music-related books and records. The coffee is made w/beans from SF-based Cento Coffee and the pastries are baked in house.

Yelp
This place is an absolute Gem of a find. Please try this. You will never want anything else (for better or worse). We bought espresso beans, Raul's iced Mexican mocha (which I day dream about often), and some pastries (*chef's kiss*). The espresso beans produced amazing crema during the brewing process and the taste is unparalleled (I need to re-up). Hands down, must try!!

Ezekiel S.

Yelp
Absolutely rude barista, pretended he didn't know me from a week before when we had a conversation. That weird kind of customer service that San Franciscan's try to embody in their miserable jobs. The place is very faux elite, and for the beautiful & rich - so don't go in there if you are a nobody. Cause nobody knows you when your down and out. Bad vibes all around. Never going back again.

Saurabh B.

Yelp
One of the best coffees in Soma - Raul is passionate about the coffee he puts out in the world. Great ambiance with a great collection of records and the record player creating an amazing vibe and ambiance. The beans are really good too, we use that for the coffee machine at the office.

Yelp
The first time I tasted one of their horchata lattes I almost threw it in the ground because it was so delicious!! This place rules and the new owner Raul and his staff are super friendly. Total neighborhood must if you want a quality cup of coffee and a positive experience. I hear they will be selling tecords and books soon and if the music coming out of this place is any indication of what is to come, I'm pretty stoked

Him S.

Yelp
Love this spot. Raul and the crew make great drinks and play great music, not to mention the great neighborhood feel. So happy to see this place open again. Great Coffee and yes, don't miss the Horchata Latte's super good.

Yelp
We found this cute coffee shop totally by accident! Friendly atmosphere great coffee. This coffee shop feels like "everybody knows your name" this place check all the boxes!

Yelp
I got the horchata latte with the blend of oat and almond milk. Perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. This place is a record shop+ cafe!

Dianne H.

Yelp
Best coffee and incredible service. Raul is the friendliest barista ever. Try his special Mexican mocha...muy deliciouso...As is everything this spot has to offer! Im never disappointed and always walk away with a smile on my face and a spring in my step.

Dave H.

Yelp
love this place! the coffee is excellent and the shop is a huge welcome addition to the neighborhood.

Greg M.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years (back when it was Vega) for the great coffee as well as for the warm reception I always received for Raul. Excited to see that with the new change Raul is still there and now owner + love the new look and feel and that they are selling records. We need these locally owned and run shops. Such an important part of true San Francisco and supporting the neighborhood!

Sophia H.
