Cafe Urbano

We absolutely love Cafe Urbano! The food is terrific and we love their homemade salsa. I like trying different items when we visit and everything has been fantastic. This place is a neighborhood gem. Do not miss!!!!

This is a fun coffee shop. Decor is fun. The shop is lit nicely by the east facing windows. There are two covered outdoor seating areas. Very nice. The coffee was above average and well made. The food was unremarkable. The egg sandwich, a breakfast panini, was good but needed something like a sauce to improve the experience. The vegan burrito was good but had too much oil. Both breakfasts were good, just nothing special.

Tried Cafe Urbano today is a cute spot for a quick brunch setting. Definately needs more vegan/vegetarian options. Some more custom lattes too. Service was very quick and friendly!!! Definately recommend and will start going more often.

Food was pretty decent. The sandwich was great but the breakfast burrito needs some form of sauce. The coffee was really solid.

Got the horchata latte & my boyfriend got the chai latte, both tasty drinks! Want to try the other ones for sure. I got the Maxwell breakfast burrito, eh could’ve been better with salsa or something. My boyfriend got the chicken club & it was juicy chicken pieces with a sauce that complimented the chicken sandwich so well. Wish the cheese would’ve been melted more but overall, it was good!

Neighborhood gem. Food menu is expanding and the vegan Al Pastor tacos remind me of ones I had in Mexico City! The mocha is fantastic as well.

Such as hidden gem! Lots of vegan options, good coffee and perfect space for a meeting or hanging out. The only thing I would recommend is them using mugs instead of to go cups.

It was my first time visiting Cafe Urbano and let me tell you, I found my new favorite spot! Julia was so awesome and gave us so many recommendations on what coffee and food to try. I can’t wait to come back!!

Great latte, small seating area. I probably wouldn't want to bring my laptop and work here, but it's always a nice stop if I am passing by. The staff is courteous and kind. Worth popping in if you're in the area and looking for more than a Starbucks

Looking for a local coffee shop to meet some friends and this one popped up on my maps app. It was only a little walk from where we we're staying so we gave it a go. Nice location, comfortable atmosphere, fresh pastries, smooth coffee and a good bfast/lunch menu. We had the bfast burrito to split and a couple lattes, which were fresh and enjoyable. The only downside was the price tag hit $30, which is a bit steep for a daily visit, but certainly reasonable for a little holiday brunch. Overall, staff was friendly, location welcoming and offerings well done. Definitely worth a visit if you're nearby.

We visited Cafe Urbano to grab some coffee after indulging in some carb-heavy Filipino pastries, and it did not disappoint! We ordered a Horchata Latte and an iced Small Chagaccino with almond milk. The Horchata Latte was a delightful blend of creamy sweetness and cinnamon, perfectly balanced. The Chagaccino, a mushroom coffee, was surprisingly rich and smooth, with the almond milk adding a nice touch. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming, enhanced by the beautiful paintings from local artists available for purchase. It added a unique, artistic touch to the cafe. The only reason for not giving a full five stars is that the service was a bit slow, but the quality of the drinks more than made up for it. We'll definitely be back!

I go here often after school drop off. The cashier's are friendly. Coffee is good. Unique chaga options. I like the food offerings as well. Good ambiance. They really need better ventilation however. It often smells like something is burning.

Love this spot! Great coffee and food. They have an outdoor area and room inside. It's perfect for brunch or breakfast. They have a ton of vegan and veggie options which was nice. Will definitely be back!

I have never waited longer for a bagel. After a couple of tries, I am certain an order from Café Urbano is at least 30-40 minutes. Bagel was barely toasted and skimpy on the cream cheese. Someone asked how long their order was. Guy said, "no clue." That says it all! No thanks!

Simply delicious! We stopped by for coffee but ended up ordering breakfast and it was a great choice! I ordered the avocado toast, and it's one of the best I've had in a long time! My bf ordered the breakfast burrito which was also very good. The coffee is smooth and the sizes are nice. We will be back!

Bad customer service, did an order ahead of time and when I came in they still hadn't made my order even with restaurant empty

Drink aren't bad, but it's the food. I usually order the Maxwell Polish breakfast burrito. It was made with hot dog instead of polish sausage. You can taste the difference and I know last time it was sausage. Also the potatoes were a little hard. There was also a breakfast sandwich with egg, cheese and bacon. Bacon tasted like frozen bacon. All together at least $50 was spent in other items that were bought. If you're going to spend $10.99 on a sandwich at least get what you are paying for! Aside from that the employees are friendly and the art in the cafe is great.

Although busy, the service was quick and the ambiance was comfy. Their lox bagel and Nutella and banana panini is AMAZINGGG!

Such a great local spot! I have really enjoyed their lattes, and I think I've found my favorite in the horchata late! I've also enjoyed their breakfast burritos. The staff is friendly and didn't mind my questions about items, and the interior is welcoming too.

I've lived in the neighborhood for close to a year, but didn't start coming regularly until a short time ago! I cannot say enough good things. The coffee is great and the baristas are friendly and efficient. Great neighborhood spot!

This place just keeps getting better! My wife and I have been coming here for the breakfast burrito for years now. We usually split it so we can try something else as well. Their menu has expanded a bit recently and it continues to impress. Friendly staff and comfortable outdoor seating. A gem for the neighborhood and Chicago.

Waited almost 30 minutes for a latte, people who ordered after me got food and drinks before I received mine. When I got my latte it was so burnt that I couldn't even finish it. Not a good first impression.

Hands down one of my favorite cafes in the city. I don't go out to get coffee too often, but when I do this is my spot to stop. My favorite drinks were the Abuelita and the Horchata lattes, but just yesterday I finally tried the Chagaccino and omg have I been missing out! I was always on the fence about it because I saw mushroom but Hannah the barista told me to just go for it and it was so much tastier than I could've imagined. I got mine with a shot of espresso and oat milk. There's no hint of weird mushroom taste (which is what I was initially afraid of), just a hint of chocolate and cinnamon with light sweetness from the Monk fruit sweetener. Plus it has some health benefits?! I'm in. I officially have a new favorite drink! Also, if you haven't tried their food I'd highly recommend grabbing some with your drink. I've only had a few things from here but everything I've tried has been phenomenal. Yesterday my boyfriend and I stepped out of the box from our usual and got the Nutella and Banana Panini and the Turkey Pesto Wrap. Both delicious and just more items to add to the list of things we love to eat here. Thank you so much to the employees there who helped with our food and drinks, and a special shout out for their patience with us while we figured out what we wanted, everyone there was so helpful and friendly.

Ok, my husband LOVES breakfast burritos and eats them everywhere. He said his burrito was one of the best breakfast burritos he's ever had. He did half bacon and half chorizo. I had a London fog (not on the menu but I told EHS how to make it) and it was perfect! Staff was friendly. Cool vibes

One of my favorite local neighborhood spots! Fun and unique indoor space, and tables and chairs outside as well. Casual spot where you order and pick up at the counter. Wait can be on the longer side - I recommend ordering a head of time. I don't mind the wait, as the food is made fresh and great quality and very large servings. My favorite is the AM Panini and the Breakfast Burrito. They also have a lunch menu that I have yet to try, but hope to soon. Coffee is also excellent with fun add ins. This is a great local business with friendly staff and customers. If you find yourself in the area be sure to stop in. &&& most importantly... they are dog friendly and are happy to give out "pup-cups" upon request. I think I found my dogs new favorite spot.

I used to love this place, and now I've gotten screwed over too many times. 1 star review for failing to meet the expectations they build with a price point this high. Food is overpriced in my opinion, in addition to just meeting the standards. Examples: Breakfast burrito is mostly egg and tortilla + protein is lacking ($1-$2 though), sandwiches are okay but the accompanying oily and squishy fries bring down the meal average. Baked goods and coffee drinks are good, but the espresso needs their sugar heavy drink recipes. The staff is nice, but young and inexperienced to a fault, coming from someone with 10+ years in cafes and restaurants. This highlighted itself today... and will deter my future business. Not sure what management did in training, but no one is on the same page. I walk in for my pickup order and get my baked good from the barista. Muffin in hand, I sit down as the barista tells me my food will be out shortly. I feel nice, get a chai to tip the staff on this hot day as from my experience, I know they're sweating in the kitchen. I wait, 5, 10, 15, 20 minutes. NOW, the barista leaves as their shift ended or they are on lunch, and walk past me leaving the cafe. Staff is having fun now chatting away and joking in the back (I love to see this, most the time), and I'm still waiting for my food in the middle of the cafe. I go up to the window now, 20 minutes after first doing so, and ask for my meal, turns out it's been sitting on the counter behind the bar for a while.... NO ONE TOLD ME OR SAID ANYTHING AT ALL. The staff relayed no messages to one another. Not an order number shout, a notification that I'm in the cafe sitting down, AS THE ONLY PATRON, they failed to get me my food warm. Godspeed to this establishment. They should know everyone in the cafe can hear them in the back room, which makes for a warm welcoming atmosphere, but transparency when they mess up. They have no awareness of what's going on. 1 star.

Driving by after dropping kid at school I pass by this little corner coffee joint, but you cant miss their "Earth's best breakfast burrito" sign out front. I mean who does not love a breakfast burrito?? I stopped here today and man...... I cannot believe I didnt do it sooner. I got their breakfast burrito with turkey and an Avocado BLT with egg sandwich with a large Americano. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G! I also picked up this cute black canvas bag with a skull and their brand on it. This will be my regular stop after school drop off for sure!

First, the service is top notch. I was greeted upon entering and the barista was knowledgeable about coffee and tea. As I sat there, I heard him greet many folks by name. So impressed. Loved the selection of baked goods. Oh, the coffee is from Collecivo too. Win win.

I like this place. They open early, even before 7:00 am. They got a stable internet, so time to time I even have calls here. A few sits outside and the coffee is good too :)

I had a regular coffee with a shot of espresso and a bagel with locks sandwich. The coffee was extremely watered-down and even the espresso couldn't make it better- I could almost see the bottom of the cup. The bagel was soggy. They didn't even asked what kind of bagel I wanted- simply slapped everything there. Otherwise this is a cute little piece and I think it has a lot of potential, but it's a no for me for the future

Delicious food and large portions. They have outdoor seating as well, and a tent for when it gets cold.

The place is a winner for no reason other than being a welcoming oasis in the midst of nondescript area known as upper Elston. The ambiance is inviting, but the ultimate cafe test, an espresso, fails on two levels: it's over $4:00 expensive, but gives a very pallid taste. Plus, the service appeared indifferent and matter-of-fact. A good pit stop on Elston, and a decent place to kill 20 minutes if you are in the area.

Roasted: came here because the first place we tried didn't have seating and wanted to sit and enjoy some coffee. Cute little coffee shop on Elston and looked promising coming in the door. Nice seating area. I'm not a huge fan of the huge Amazon lockers in the cafe area but I get it brings people in. They had one barista working who was friendly and helped me make my choice. They only offer one sugar free option which is vanilla. They don't carry skim or 2% milk which is a huge negative for me. They only offer whole milk or alternatives like soy oat and almond. None of those really prefer in my latte. They don't even carry half n half - just the little creamers which isn't quite the same thing. We didn't get offered our drinks for here which maybe is still because of Covid so I can forgive that. But our lattes were not good. Despite having to use almond milk - they weren't tasty. Mine tasted watery and had way too much foam on top and the espresso was slightly burnt. I'm bummed by this visit because I was hoping for a great cup of coffee this morning. Unroasted: great location on a corner lot. Walking in to a empty shop is one of my greatest pleasures. I love the Mexican folk art theme with the sugar skulls everywhere. The barista was nice and greeted as we walked in. Pastries smelled delicious and the blueberry muffin was really good. Now let's get to the not so good. No fat free milk or even 2%. You have to give your guests options. They did have one sugar free option. Not consistent with the lattes. One taste better than the other. Even when it's slow I'd expect it to be consistent. No mug was offered. I hate when I sit in a coffee shop and have to drink out of a to go cup. Just ruins the whole coffee shop vibe. All in all I wouldn't recommend with the better options around. Cute little coffee shop at a corner of neighborhood. Service was quick and the cashier was polite. We ordered breakfast burrito and horchata latte. I like panini formed burrito but I thought it tasted kinda plain. Latte was tasty although I couldn't taste horchata... anyways, nice place to stop by for a quick bite.

Cafe Urbano is good coffee bar, and extremely close to Our office. The barista behind the counter was extremely helpful and friendly with his recommendations. We ended up with larger late original, a barrel aged mocha (which also was incredible), and an iced oat milk latte. They have a diverse range of beans available for sale, as well as branded merchandise with great artwork on them, including mugs and t shirts. The bourbon flavor of the barrel aged beans in the mocha added a unique depth of flavor. Overall very good coffee shop and well served additional staff. The only negative I can tell that interior is outdated and it looks kind of old especially flooring. In addition it was hard to find parking spot and I had to circle around to park.

Wasn't a fan of this place and the cafe. The dog policy brought in 5-6 dogs within an hour of me being there, combined with the Amazon locker it was cluttered. A large brewed coffee was 4.70: I could get 12 ounces of Starbucks beans for close to that price. When I ordered it I had to wait 8 minutes for it as the girl at the counter couldn't just grab it for me.

4/19/18 Good location for street parking but very small interior. You can come in a group of 4 people max and even then, you may not find a table if there's already a couple people in the cafe. The paninis and drinks make this cafe a solid place to have a cozy, solo lunch in. I really liked my club panini. Banana Nutella smoothie was weird. Banana Nutella milkshake would have been perfect.

Avocado spinach wrap was tasty to me. Cute neighborhood cafe feel with decent parking around. Tables and window bars to sit.

Amazing place with amazing staff and delicious food, I've never had a better coffee and burrito. I say with confidence that this is one of the best coffee shops I've ever been to.

Ridiculously slow service. Waited 20 minutes for them to make two chicken sandwiches while half the staff were just standing around. They didn't even tell me it was going to take an excessive amount of time when I placed the order in the restaurant (for pick up).

Terrible coffee! I got a cappuccino here if you could even call it that. It was more like a cup of scalding hot milk! It was filled to the brim with no foam. The milk tasted weird like it had a vanilla flavoring to it. Would not recommend this place.

Cafe Urbano is a small shop located @ 4176 N Elston Ave. I have driven by this location many times in my trek up and down Elston Ave. I thought this was just a coffee/pastry shop, but found out that they serve a small selection of breakfast & sandwich items. My wife had to work the 3rd shift last night so we went looking for a place to grab a quick breakfast (or so we thought). The service was very slow. Cafe Urbano is located on one of those triangular sites that typically limit the space allocation inside to some awkward layouts, this isn't the case with Cafe Urbano. The main entry is at the point on the corner where Elston Ave & Avers Ave come together forming a narrow entry point. From the moment you walk in this store has a cool vibe. From the entry at the narrow point the space expands out from the point of the tip into a larger open loft space where your senses are stimulated by a a colorful array of artwork and knick knacks spread out around the space. These items draw your attention around the room going from item to item while allowing you to scan the room. Much of the wall space has colorful artwork that brighten the room. As I found out a contribution from local artists. As I found out artwork is for sale if people are interested in the work. I really liked the feel of the room as it looks like much of the materials have been used from repurposed items. The wood floor was laid out in what I assume was a collection of different wood recycled with mismatch flooring. The wood flooring was laid out forming different square floor areas in the large open space where most of the seating was arranged. When we arrived there was only one other customer (on his computer) sitting at the entry & 1 employee standing behind the order counter near the back of the space on the right side. This register area has corrugated metal panels with wood border trim surrounding it creating a front counter wall panel separating the beasts from the servers. Behind this area there are shelves with an assortment of coffees, coffee cups and coffee machines. Overall I really liked the feel of the space and the way the assortment of different items came together to give this space it cool vibe. After ordering my food I sat down and waited and waited and waited for my food. As it turned out she was only person working. After she took my order she she went to cook it so every time a new customer came in she had to come back up front to take someone else's order then return to the kitchen in the back to cook my food. You might say what about the food? I ended up ordering a breakfast burrito that was excellent. The burrito had eggs, chorizo, avocados, tomatoes & queso crema on a flour tortilla and pressed panini style. This also came with a small appetizer sized salad made of mixed greens, tomatoes, green peppers, queso cheese with balsamic vinegar. It was ok. They have a smallish menu item, but that's fine with me. Everything listed on the menu looked like delicious and like something that I will probably go back and try (hopefully not all at once) Overall I really liked this place. The cool vibe 5 stars, the food 5 stars (limited selection). The only part I found a little lacking was the very slow service, but that's partially due to being a little understaffed otherwise I would have given Cafe Urbano 5 Stars

Three of us went here for a Sunday brunch. They have a limited menu of sandwiches and breakfast items. You order at the counter and they call you when it is ready. I was not impressed by the service. Sure, it is counter service. But, there was a lack of friendliness that made the experience lacking. I guess they were understaffed - as far as I could see when we arrived there were two people behind the counter - one was taking the orders and working the coffee bar, the other was in back cooking. I think a third person showed up later while we were there. I had a Cuban Sandwich called the "Urbano Cubano". It a little different - smoked ham, but no pulled pork, it had mayo, not mustard, and was served on a french roll. I think I prefer Cubans with Mustard and pulled pork. The French bread was a nice touch though. I also have to admit the coffee was pretty good. I don't know if the type of service we had was standard for Cafe Urbano or not. If something was off that day, it certainly impacted my comments above. Because of the coffee, I would try it again. If I do, I will update my review at another time.

Go to spot for coffee and matcha lattes. The horchata latte is also bomb!! Can't go wrong with a sandwich here either. Milwaukee's Colectivo coffee is the option here. Wish it was a Chicago brew but at least it's still a midwestern Company!

Really great place to come on a Sunday afternoon. They have $1 sangria. I had a few empanadas and a Cuban sandwich. The empanadas were delish and the sandwich was very good. Our waitress was nice but she took a while to check up on us and we totally wanted more sangria drinks. Will definitely be back again!

Be prepared to wait. Over 45 minutes for a bagel with smoke salmon. Two people in front of me waited for so long they cancelled their order and got their money back. Still, those cancellations did not speed up my order. I could have driven to Skokie to New York Bagels and Bailys, eaten, and driven back in the time it took to toast a bagel and put some salmon on it. Friendly service, incredulous wait times.

I remembered when "Cafe Urbano" was at its, so called, developmental stage more than one (1) year ago. For me I was elated since Albany Park needed a coffeeshop like this. I used to reside in the west end of Albany Park and would walk fifteen (15) minutes so I could to get a cup of quality coffee from Urbano. The guys and gals have always been friendly and down-to-earth. I loved spending time and using the free wifi at Urbano, especially when my apartment had a power outage for two (2) days because Comed screwed up the meter, and Daddy J. wouldn't go on his day without his Americano fix. I have been somewhat sad for not being able to visit Cafe Urbano as often as I would like to since hubby and I moved to the house we purchased in Portage Park. Nevertheless, we made a point coming to CU as one of the interest stops during our "marathon walking" trip we often do when we have days off together. Their horchata latte is always delicious. The drinks I ordered in the past that I will recommend are raspberry mocha, turtle mocha, and red eye. Their breakfast sandwiches and burritos are made-to-order, so waiting is to be expected. The hallway and dining room walls feature the art work from the local artists. I've seen some of them that I really wanted to purchase, but we didn't have a house of our own at that time. That was probably the reason why I wanted to come in this afternoon: checking out some of the pieces to see if there was anything cool! Cafe Urbano seems to be doing quite well, and I'm very glad that a local coffeeshop like CU is thriving and being a community hangout spot for the neighborhood residents.

This place is so fire. Will be back on lunch breaks constantly. Keep it up, maybe add arugula to your menu items

Love the breakfast burrito! I always order ahead but the wait is still long so add 10-30 mins to the time given for pick up. Multiple times the wait has stretched into 20 mins. Today the wait even with ordering ahead was over 30 mins. The staff isn't super friendly but the burrito makes up for it.

Urbano has always felt woven into the fabric of the Albany Park neighborhood, and that's even more the case during this weird time, when we are all hunkered down, waiting, alone or not alone enough. They've stayed open for takeout during this pandemic-craziness, and I am so very grateful. I make a point of going almost every day to give them a few of my dollars and, I ADMIT IT, because I need a break from my family, a chance to catch my breath and be able to hear myself think. My go-tos: --latte --honey cinnamon oat latte, if I'm feeling peckish and want more calories --breakfast burrito My kids' go-tos: -hot chocolate -Nutella and banana panini -PB&J panini Do what you can to help them stay around! (I heard they now have burgers in the afternoon...)
