Cafe Velora - Review - Haight - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Cafe Velora is a spot in the Haight that’s all about baklava. On top of syrup-soaked pastries, they also serve coffee and espresso drinks. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Julia Chen

Why a San Francisco Mini-Chain of Italian Restaurants Just Filed for Bankruptcy | Eater SF

"A new café is set to open any day now across the street from newcomer Coffee Llama, in the former Ritual Coffee location. The business will be open seven days a week, selling coffee, sandwiches, bagels, and baklava. It takes over the dormant 1317 Haight Street lease, next to the former Central Haight Cafe." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
A really cute Shop with very Friendly Staff. We got a iced chai latte and a baklava. The chai latte was freshly made and tasted great. The baklava was freshly made. They serve a classic baklava with honey and a vegan version too. It was nice and crisp and not too Sweet. It was definitely better than the classic shawarma place treat, which are often just overloaded with sugar and soggy. If you are around you should definitely give them a shot and try them out. 10/10 would recommend.

I love this cafe. The baklava is FANTASTIC. Sweet, but not too sweet, with many innovative flavor combinations that simply work. The owners are incredibly kind and it is clear they love their store and their customers. Two wishes in the future: First, I hope they offer a small size of their drinks (good coffee, but sometimes I just want a smaller portion so it doesn't go to waste!). Second, I wish the stickers on their boxes had their shop name! I'm bringing an assortment of baklava to Thanksgiving dinner, and I want everyone to easily see where they are from. I think this stickers could also be relatively cheap, good marketing, because I don't think I'm alone in bringing their baklava to events!

We walked by randomly and saw these baklavas calling out to me from the window. When we walked in, there this cute little cafe selling organic coffee, pastries and the best baklava you can ever find in the city. NOT TOO SWEET (biggest compliment you can get from an Asian), flakiest phyllo pastry (that is not at all hard + melts in your mouth) and very aromatic roasted pistachios. There is Pistachios ($4) and there is Bistachios (BIG Pistachios - $5). They have other flavors too that I’m looking forward to try going forward.

Google
The best baklava in the city! The owners are SO kind, the baklava is flaky and delicious, and it is a joyful experience to visit Cafe Velora! The chocolate cake is also phenomenal. This is my go to spot to pick up treats to share at my work or social events. Comes in a cute box and you can pick your own assortment!

Saw the sign and a parking space. Clean, newer cafe with a large assortment of pastries. I got a small coffee, slice of coffee cake and a piece of pistachio baklava Nice discussion with the lady about how she makes the baklava. Trying for sweetness without it being sugary. The baklava was amazing light flaky, sweet but not like a glazed donut. I would highly recommend the baklava. The coffee was meh. Hopefully they step up the coffee to match the baklava!

Google
Best baklava I’ve ever had!!! Not very sweet which is wonderful! Try the larger cream-filled baklava - the vanilla is heavenly!!! They’re always doing roaring seasonal flavors too, they had a pumpkin baklava for Halloween and now they’re doing a pecan one for the holidays Small multi-generational family owned biz, really kind people!

Google
Delicious, flaky baklava and kind staff! Great variety and price point. I especially loved that the baklava was not too sweet. They opened somewhat recently and are a great addition to Haight st!

Google
Excellent $5 slice of strawberry (?) pie, and latte. There was a group of tourists right before us, so the son was busy making their coffee drinks. He gave us 3 free pieces of baklava for waiting and it was the best baklava I've had. Fresh, light, not too sweet. He was so friendly. Nice tables outside.

Yelp
I've never seen such a creative assortment of baklava, anywhere, ever. I got a box of 9 (NINE!!!) different flavors, and there were still a bunch that didn't fit into the box. So far I've only tried three; they were all delicious. They are such an excellent addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Friendly Mother and Son duo serving a wide variety of homemade baklava! It's always a treat when I get to stop inside and pick up some baklava. Cafe Velora is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
I am very much in favor of giving small businesses a try so when my wife had a craving for something sweet velora looked like a great option . The service is very friendly and she got a mixed nuts baklava which unfortunately was not great - not enough filling , not enough honey , and a little too expensive (4$ for quite a small square ). We might try it again in the future but right now they still need to improve

Yelp
This is a mom and son owned spot specializing in homemade baklavas. They have classics like pistachio, but also feature seasonal specials like chocolate cherry almond and their newest- pumpkin spice. If you love cherries like I do, you'll want to add their special cherry latte too. I loved how light and crispy each baklava layer was, and they try to make everything "not too sweet". Not a baklava fan? They also have cakes, pastries, and fresh sandwiches to go too. Service is super friendly. They have a little bench inside and two small tables outside for a quick stop. Be sure to check them out if you're along Haight Street!

Yelp
A lovely new addition to the neighborhood. Great bite sized baklava, delicious but not overly sweet.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience at Cafe Velora. The baklava is deliciously crispy (not soggy). It is lower in sugar than many places, which I appreciate. (Though one of the pieces I bought tasted like it barely had any sugar at all...perhaps that recipe needs a bit more sugar added.) The vibe is so friendly here, the mother and son owners are kind and make you want to return. I would agree the other reviews that Velora is a bit expensive, though the quality of the baklava is very high. I'd come back.

Yelp
They have a new hot or iced cherry latte or cherry mocha with wafer stick or with plain baklava stick that is definitely a must-try! They have decaf and non-dairy options too!

Yelp
Absolutely darling family owned local place with the most beautiful assortment of fresh homemade baklava!! Great coffee and espresso drinks, sandwiches and muffins, yum! Super welcoming and friendly people. Support this local family place!!! Loved it and will definitely be back

Yelp
GO HERE!!! The best baklava/beignets/coffee. We've gotten a box of the mixed baklava twice in the last two weeks and have quite literally inhaled it. We stopped in for coffee and a chat with the owners and they warmed up some chocolate filled beignets for us and ommmmggggg. Words don't do them justice. Also the owners are just the best. It's a mom and son duo and they are so so sweet and caring - they'll make you feel right at home in their cafe. Velora is such a wonderful addition to Haight Ashbury

Yelp
Really delicious baklava that isn't TOO SWEET! The man who runs it is so kind and very passionate about his recipes. Classic SF atmosphere and cute location on Haight. Go support your local baklava spot!
