"I noted that FBR is behind the relocation of the campus bar Cain & Abel’s." - Nadia Chaudhury
"The standby campus bar closed on April 28 when its building was demolished for student housing, though owner Ellis Winstanley plans to relocate the bar elsewhere." - Nadia Chaudhury
"After closing its longtime Rio Grande address at 2313 Rio Grande Street because the building was demolished to make way for University of Texas student housing, this 32-year-old West Campus bar reopened on August 21 at 907 West 24th Street (nicknamed Abel’s Dos). Opened in 1991 and bought by owner Ellis Winstanley in 2002, the relocated spot remains essentially the same, offering very boozy Texas teas, cocktails, beers, a happy hour, and general bar food like chicken tenders, sliders, tacos, and salads; hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and it opens at 9 a.m. on UT Longhorn football game days. Winstanley had always planned to move and reopen after the Rio Grande location closed at the end of April, and he previously operated Abel’s on the Lake from 2009 to 2022 when he declined to renew that lease. Bring the crew and sip on the brew of your choice with excellent service." - Nadia Chaudhury
"A recently departed spot remembered for its boozy Texas teas, representing the kind of spirited nighttime offerings that populated the campus bar scene and are now missed by former students." - Eric Webb
"Campus bar Cain & Abel’s is going to close at the end of April because of a forthcoming development. The building is going to be demolished for student housing. The owner plans on moving the business into a yet-to-be-disclosed location, which will open before the original bar closes." - Nadia Chaudhury
