UT Austin Campus Bar Cain and Abel’s Reopens in New Location | Eater Austin

"After closing its longtime Rio Grande address at 2313 Rio Grande Street because the building was demolished to make way for University of Texas student housing, this 32-year-old West Campus bar reopened on August 21 at 907 West 24th Street (nicknamed Abel’s Dos). Opened in 1991 and bought by owner Ellis Winstanley in 2002, the relocated spot remains essentially the same, offering very boozy Texas teas, cocktails, beers, a happy hour, and general bar food like chicken tenders, sliders, tacos, and salads; hours are 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. and it opens at 9 a.m. on UT Longhorn football game days. Winstanley had always planned to move and reopen after the Rio Grande location closed at the end of April, and he previously operated Abel’s on the Lake from 2009 to 2022 when he declined to renew that lease.
