"If you’ve ever had the really strong and specific urge to wrap an entire Cuban dish in a warm flour tortilla, you’re (apparently) not the only one. The vaca frita burrito from Caja Caliente is just that—a ridiculous amount of crispy vaca frita, maduros, and congri melded together with mozzarella cheese inside a tortilla. It’s a sweet, salty, and meaty burrito that comes with spicy aioli and a side of mariquitas. It’s also massive, which makes it the perfect burrito if you’re looking for something to cure a Sunday morning hangover or anchor a small boat. " - ryan pfeffer, virginia otazo, mariana trabanino
"Offering a diverse selection of Cuban tacos generously filled with proteins such as chicken and gator, this restaurant also offers croquetas, bowls, quesadillas, and empanadas for a well-rounded experience." - Olee Fowler
"It’s not Miami without Cuban nachos making an appearance. At Caja Caliente, the nachos are made using a mix of made-to-order tortilla chips and plantains topped with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, black olives, pickled red onion and jalapeños, black beans, and chipotle crema — plus protein options which include picadillo, pollo, abuela’s lechon, and vaca frita." - Amber Love Bond
"Chef Monica Leon’s Cuban tacos have quickly become a favorite in South Florida. These tacos are a local specialty with fillings ranging from chicken to gator. But that’s not all the restaurant has to offer. Diners can also indulge in croquetas, bowls, quesadillas, and empanadas, all pair perfectly with the restaurant’s signature herby green sauce. Don’t forget to order extra." - Stacy A. Moya
"Caja Caliente’s disco volador roster is the most impressive in town. They don’t stick to the classic guava and queso or ham and cheese combos. The Gables restaurant has options like croqueta and queso, prosciutto and blue cheese, and one stuffed generously with vaca frita. They even occasionally have disco volador guava pancakes on the menu for weekend brunch. They are all excellent and if you’re very hungry, you can probably eat two. The croqueta and vaca frita versions are our personal top two." - ryan pfeffer
