I had but lost hope of a decent Nigerian restaurant with acceptable service, tasteful food, good atmosphere and justifiably priced...please check my other reviews for restaurants to avoid.....
Finally I can say that Calabar Kitchen blew my expectations out of the water.
Our server, Precious, who was as precious as his name suggests was great. We were a table of 4 women who although nigerian born needed some direction on what we should order. Precious was patient and informative on all the dishes. I had the pepper soup to start with the edikangkong. My gracious, the pepper soup was not only delicious but the meat was plentiful. I felt like my mum was in the kitchen instructing the chefs hands, it was either my mum or the angels of good food, either way the chef delivered.
After experiencing the meagre portions of other locations like 805's and Enish, I warned our server Precious that, I have a big appetite and Precious was confident that there was no way I would be able to finish my pounded yam....Precious was right, I'm stubborn I tried.
I had to take it home with me, and yet away from the restaurant, the next day the delight continued. The food was lovingly wrapped, in clingfilm then 2 rounds of foil, my soup was wrapped in 2 rounds of clingfilm and I felt like I had a fresh take away delivery from the restaurant as my soup and pounded yam was replenished.
I cant wait to go back. Hands down this little know Nigerian restaurant is the best I have come across after a long and disappointing search
