California Fish Grill

As a Brit, I've been trying fish and chips in the USA for the past 25 years and this is probably the best I've had in all that time. The batter is super crispy and there's some scratchings mixed with the fries. Although it looks like they have other amazing items on the menu, I'd highly trying their fish and chips

Let me start off by saying I walked in and I didn’t know much about the place because I had just seen it every day driving by. I knew it was going to be a little bit of a hassle so I make sure to tip because I have a shellfish allergy. When I asked the host to inform the cooks, he was very nice about it. The chef however, was not. He literally gave me a dirty look and asked the host if he was serious. When I did get my food, I asked a item to be removed off of it (I got fish tacos asked for the pickled onions to be removed). Unfortunately, we had to pull them off. After I left this place, I puked my guts out; I don’t know if it was the food. I don’t know if it was my allergy, but it was bad. If I could get my money back, I 100% would.

Good fish, meh chips. The meal is a bargain, that’s a lot of fish for the money. I’ll be going back to try other dishes.

I don't usually post reviews, but I had an amazing experience here at California Fish Grill. It's my first time visiting Southern California and was met with excellent customer service. I'm not familiar with the tech from the big screens, and Madison happily walked me through it. She was such a big help and was a sweetheart! Additionally, the food was delicious. The salmon was flavorful and savory. The sides compliment the fish very well. I would definitely come back here again next time I'm in California!

I usually don't leave reviews but their food and customer service were amazing! I ordered the Cajun shrimp tacos and my mom and aunt ordered the shrimp skewers (Cajun style) and had some of the best sauces on top a the shrimp was cooked so well. Not burnt, just the right amount of crispy! Cassi and Beyonce were even kind enough to give us more sauces and would check in how our food was and if we needed anything else. Definitely glad I came here to eat after work.

was on the way home when I spottes this location and came to give it a try, I must say the food was delicious , the service was fantastic the person on kiosk ( Karla ) was very helpful and attentive! will definitely stop by again! I recommend the shrimp skewers!

Our server Madison was amazing! Food was well seasoned and great portions (without being oversized like most American places) it was clean and we also had 3 service staff check in on how we were. That's top notch attention to detail! This will be our go to spot if all the ingredients were updated! Only request is that they remove seed oils from cooking so that it's the healthiest option around!

We stopped by CFG Fountain Valley for dinner tonight. Hubby got the fish and chips and I ordered the salmon plate. Fish and chips: the batter on the fish was way too thick and over fried, so it was kind of hard. He pulled the fish out of the batter and ate the fish by itself. Fries were oily. There was a pool of oil at the bottom of the layer of fries. My salmon was very thinly sliced (just looks bigger in the photo). The salmon plate used to come with two (2) pieces of salmon and now only one. (The salmon bowl is supposed to come with one piece.) I ordered it with sweet chili sauce and it tasted good but the zucchini had too much rosemary as usual. Now, the beans were very disappointing, full of liquid and hardly any beans (as you can see in the photo). The sea salt mango juice wasn't that great. Just okay. Full of sugar and no mango pulp or pieces nor mango flavor. We were not impressed with the foods but service was good. One of the associates came to our table twice to check on us. Keep in mind that you will order yourself at a kiosk and pay there, then they will call your name to pick up your order that coming right out of the kitchen. My husband thought that was interesting how that was set up. Definitely different concept than the one we usually go to in Lake Forest.

Was rushing to go take care of business and spotted this restaurant,and wanted to try. Was impressed upon entering. Food was great,and Jackie was fantabulous. This will definitely be my go to when in this city.

This is always a consistent and affordable dinner option. Whether it's Ahi or Shrimp Skewers, we can find a good variety of fish at CFG. They have nice add-on options for their entrees and you can order online through the app or in the store on the kiosk. Food always comes out pretty fast and definitely fresh. The dynamite sauce is where it's at! Ruben, the manager, runs a great ship at this location - so much so that we drive out of our way here even though there's another CFG closer to our house.

Delectable, healthy, affordable seafood meals. My fav is the salmon+swai combo. Grateful for the kind staff to be accommodating and helpful. A twist tie was found in my food here last month, but thankfully the manager compensated me. Plenty of seating and parking. Conveniently located right by the 405.

I can't believe I wasn't here before, the fish tacos are amazingly delicious. Highly recommend checking this place out and can't wait to try the fish n chips. Also quiet environment and ambiance was perfect for a nice dinner date. Service was excellent and very friendly and professional.

Walked in and was greeted by everyone that was working. They have self kiosks or one of the workers came by and said to let him know if we needed help with anything we opted for the kiosk, it was quick, easy to use and you place your name and phone number and text you when your order is ready. Place is big and clean and plenty of places to sit. We got a text when the order was ready and they had everything ready but the beans but were kind to bring it to our table when it was ready. Portions were bigger than I remembered. Food was delicious, fish was cooked perfect, and all of the sides were good. I really enjoyed the fish and the garlic butter sauce. Salad was light and fresh and enough to make our tummy's full.

Love their family combo (4 plates) Makes it easy on busy days when you don't want to think about what to eat, but also want something nutritious and flavorful. Comes with swai + shrimp skewer, brown or white rice + side salad. Everything was packaged nicely and tasted delicious.

I have to say, the quality has definitely gone down over the years at this location. That's unfortunate since it is a busy intersection. However, the portion is fair for the price, fishes are thinly sliced, sad. I can't say it's delicious, but it's decent. I was hungry, food is acceptable. customers service is good. tables are clean, inviting atmosphere.

Have only ordered takeout or delivery here, but it's become a staple in our household. Fast service and consistently good food. The swai (whitefish) is excellent. Our family loves mixing and matching fish with seasonings and sides for the customizable plates. Some of our favorites are the seasoned olive oil, rosemary zucchini, and brussels sprouts.

Solid 4/5 Ordered combo rice with salmon and cod Food didn't really impress me. Clam chowder - was just okay. Definitely needs some salt or pepper. Portions are just right for the price charged.. Staff are courteous as they greet all guests and offer help at the kiosk if needed. Restrooms are clean. Overall nice atmosphere for quick lunches. Eco friendly Togo containers are accessible to patrons is a big plus. Tipping at the kiosk isn't too dreadful as this place doesn't qualify as "fast food". There are people actually working the grills and staff providing welcoming ambience.

Food 4.8/5.0, ambiance 4.6/5.0, service 5/5. Food is hmm delicious, employees are passionate about their work. At least 3 employees going by asking if we needed anything.

Staff is kind, friendly, and welcoming. However, this is why I'm completely upset: I ordered a few items. Two of which are two "entree" salads for pickup. To my surprise when I got home, the two salads look like they'd be side salads. I paid over $25 for just those two shrimp salads, only to get surprised with the quality. If I wanted a small portion with OBVIOUS gaps and emptiness in the plate, I could've ordered a side salad. I should've checked the food before leaving the store. I am beyond disappointed. I only took pictures of the first salad because I was too upset to look at the second one. One was upsetting enough.

I had a nice dining experience with friends recently for lunch. The food was good and the staff and prices were good. It is a popular restaurant and I would recommend it if you are in the area.

I ordered the shrimp and avocado salad and it was sooo good! The shrimp were perfectly seasoned and had that little char that makes them extra tasty, and the avocado was super fresh and creamy. Everything came together really well and it was super filling without being heavy. Alondra and Nevaeh were also super sweet. Alondra helped me when I came in, and then checked on me again after I sat down. Then Navaeh did the same, and saved me from almost running into someone and dropping all their food. Both made the effort to make sure I was good which I appreciate. Definitely coming back for the food and easy vibes.

I love this place for a quick grab with friends & co workers for lunch. I always get the grilled salmon plate and it's always consistently cooked to perfection. I love that you can order on the kiosk or online through their app. There's a lot of seating, but it can get pretty packed during lunchtime.

This place has amazing food and great customer service. Every time I walk in, they're very friendly and attentive. I was picking up a to-go order tonight and before I could drive away, Ruben went out of his way to run the other bag I forgot, out to my car before I drove away. Thank you Ruben!

Had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant. The fish and chips were delicious. Ordered the 3 piece dinner. Had the miso slaw as a side dish. The staff were very nice and helpful. Liz went out of her way to rectify a discrepancy with the order. She was especially nice about it. Nevaeh was also friendly and had a nice conversation with my wife after our dinner. The restaurant is very clean and there are plenty of tables available. One of the better fish grill restaurants that we have eaten at.

We went on a Saturday night just before close. Tasty and healthy food! Great experience overall. Staff was helpful and kind. P.S. enjoyed a delicious brown butter rice crispy treat for dessert on the way out!

First time coming to this fish grill and it was cool seeing the kiosk. Makes it a lot more efficient for people to order. Service was all super fast! Everything is all clean here as well. Quick hack and I'm not sponsored by TooGoodToGo app but my gf and I decided to try it this time where it's $4.99 for 3 random surprise sides. So we ended up getting Brussels, rice and corn! We added a bunch of regular fish and shrimp tacos. Worth it. Or did they get us to buy more food....maybe both parties win today

This CFG has always had good customer service and the food is on par with every other location. The food always comes out on time and prepared well. The inside pretty much matches any other CFG franchise and they keep the place pretty clean.

The fish was PERFECTLY deep fried... light and crispy; not greasy! LOVED IT! The service was exceptional, the staff were friendly. Making us feel very welcome

Came into and I had a wonderful experience with Alondra she made my ordering process so easy. I was greeted right away and assisted with care. Not to mention the food was absolutely amazing. I recommend this place to everyone who enjoys great customer service and great food.

Service 9/10 Food 8/10 Price 8/10 Interior 8/10 This place is good, everything is pretty even across the board. Nothing is particularly too flavorful though so if you like your food salty this might not be for you. The interior is usually clean but seating can be limited. Alor do times people are using kiosk to order. Since everything is made to order the wait can be pretty long.

The seafood at California Fish Grill is amazing and fresh. I love the variety and options they have to offer. Wilhelmy was very attentive and check on us frequently when we dined in.

I love the swai grilled fish plate here! Very tender and they are always generous with the portions. Cassandra our server took great care of us.

First time here and did not really know what to expect. It's kind of like a fast food restaurant if you will. You order at the kiosk and they call your name once the food is ready for dine in or takeout. There is a worker at the front to take your order in case you're an elderly and you would like your elderly discounts since that's what my mom did. The place is self seating and there were lots of seatings to choose from despite being so busy. I got the mahi mahi with upgrades to asparagus and sweet potato fries. I would say the upgrades are not worth it considering they're $2+ more per item upgrade and the portions are relatively small considering what you're paying. Personally I would stick to the normal sides because the dish itself is around $11-12 without any upgrades. I would come here again if I'm ever in the mood for a decently priced seafood place.

We order from this location a few times. The last two times it was not such a good experience. First time, we ordered fish and chip.. both fish and fries very soggy, tasted like it was sitting and soaking up the oil. No cripsy taste whatsoever so ever. 2nd time, no sauce at all and 1 of the side order was missing. My wife called in to complain, the person answered the phone just said "we so sorry do you want us to come pick it up and send you a new order?".. after we waited an hour for the order, I understand the fish and chips can get soggy by the time we receive our order. But the missing items should at least get refunded.

This menu has great alternatives and add ons. I Always feel the food is Fresh and simple but full of flavor. I always order the fish tacos, one breaded, one grilled. Always fresh salsa and fresh limes. The sides I usually pick are rice, grilled veggies. My favorite side is grilled corn that's has a poblano chili in it. Tastes fresh.

Great customer service. Fresh seafood all the time. Yadira is the best! She went above and beyond to make sure that my Oder was correct and was very informative on the menu.

Haven't been to California Fish Grill in a while. On-line order for pick up. Got grilled salmon with diced zucchini and brown rice. To my surprise they now only give you one thinly piece of salmon instead of two. Extreme rip off for the price. The diced zucchini was even half the portion they used to give. Please bring back full portions or lower your prices.
