The Best Restaurants for Dungeness Crab in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"This North Beach spot opened mid-pandemic as a combined fish counter and restaurant. True to the neighborhood, there’s Italian American flare, and Dungeness crab stars as a whole or half roasted with garlic, olive oil, and lemon." - Eater Staff

The seafood here is incredibly fresh! We started with the combo crudo Calabrese, which quickly became one of my favorites. It featured raw halibut, salmon, and scallop, topped with capers, Calabrian chili, and a sprinkle of sea salt--absolutely delicious! For the mains, we had the linguine granchio, a perfectly cooked linguine with Dungeness crab meat, tomatoes, and pepper. The cCoppino was a standout, filled with mussels, clams, scallop, calamari, and shrimp in a rich tomato-based stew. Everything was outstanding, and I'd highly recommend it if you're craving fresh, flavorful seafood!

We ordered the Beau Soleil oysters, which were incredibly fresh and delicious, a perfect start to the meal. They also brought us complimentary bread, which appeared to be sour dough, and it was a lovely touch. For our mains, we tried the Ravioli con Aragosta and the Scallops with a side of Linguine al Pesto. I really appreciated that the scallops and pasta were served on separate plate, it was a thoughtful detail that made the dining experience even better. The ravioli was a standout. You could really taste the lobster, and the dish didn’t overwhelm its delicate flavor. The shrimp that accompanied the ravioli were cooked to perfection, adding another layer of delight. The linguine al pesto wasn’t quite al dente, but the pesto sauce was absolutely incredible. The rich, herbaceous flavor made up for any issues with the pasta texture, so I didn’t mind at all. Finally, the scallops with the Meunière sauce were simply stunning. I loved every moment of it. The service was excellent as well. The waiter Raul, was attentive, kind, and made us feel very welcome.

Tried the Red Snapper whole fish and oysters. The fish was quite good with butter and capers and a side of vegetables. Bit on the pricey side but not bad. We ordered a dozen Marin oysters and they were spoiled. After tasing 2-3, we returned the entire dozen. The restaurant replaced them with other oysters that were much better. However they should make sure that they check these before they give it to customers. Service was good and our server sincerely apologized for the experience with the oysters, multiple times. This is important since at many restaurants, servers don’t even care. This one was different. They fixed their mistake.

I don’t know why here only have 4.5 stars, I promised you guys this restaurant is more than 5 stars! This is the best seafood restaurant I never been in the Bay Area! Is *California Fish Market restaurant* Full of seafood in the tomato soup and really soft juicy octopus, this restaurant is the legend in Bay Area, you need to come here and should be your pocket list!

Charming small restaurant in the heart of North Beach. The service was attentive, cordial, and friendly. It was quiet during the afternoon and extremely pleasant. The Risotto de Mare I ordered was outstanding. It was a generous portion but more than that it had a large variety of seafood with the best fresh favors. We went there for my husband's birthday and it was quite romantic. We will be back.

Google
Restaurant that focuses on the delivery of good seafood and it does so very well. Both our dishes were very fresh and very well cooked & seasoned. I had the mixed grill platter which was a very healthy portion of fresh seafood and salmon, each type of seafood was individually cooked so all were on point which is not a given in most places. My partner had the scallops which were also cooked perfectly and very good sauce work.

Google
Amazing food. We came in without looking at reviews etc. Food exceeded expectations. Definitely worth checking out. Portions are huge, cioppino is enough for two people, sea food pasta, had more fish than pasta in it. They don't have a kids menu but our 9 year old ordered fish and chips and I must say they were amazing, probably some of the best fish and chips we had anywhere.

Google
Came here on for date night. Everything was really fresh and the food was delicious. Everything was really yummy. The lobster Will was a 7/10. The roll was kinda hard and blah. Could have been better if they used a softer roll and maybe buttered and toasted it. We also ordered a side pasta and that was really tasty! 9/10 Oysters 10/10 Halibut crudo 10/10 Octopus 10/10 Super friendly staff and well as really great service. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
I really enjoyed my meal here. The server was really polite and attentive and the food was delicious. We went for an early dinner and were the only customers until halfway through our meal. Parking was a bit difficult but after driving around the block several times and almost giving up, we were finally able to find a spot a few blocks down. We ordered the Dungeness crab, clam chowder, and grigliata fish market. The grigliata was the Star of the meal 100%. Octopus, clams, calamari, fish, clams, and prawns in the most delicious sauce. I will definitely be going back just for that! Service was quick and attentive and the small space made for an intimate dinner which I personally like.

Yelp
**Updated review** I booked my reservation through SF Restaurant Week's official website and was excited to finally try this place. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated right away, which was a great start. However, things took a turn when our server handed us the regular menu without mentioning the SF Restaurant Week menu. When I asked about it, the staff member I spoke to claimed they weren't notified that they were participating. How is that possible when the restaurant was listed on the official website and we booked our reservation through it? SF Restaurant Week is a well known event, and participating restaurants usually share their menus online. I even checked Yelp and found only one photo related, which made me suspect they were trying to avoid offering the prix-fixe menu to maximize profits. Their excuse? "They weren't notified in time to create a menu." That's frustrating and misleading, especially since the event details had been public for two weeks+ meaning they should have been aware well in advance. If they weren't prepared, they shouldn't have signed up. That aside, we decided to stay and order from the regular menu. Unfortunately, our food took a long time to arrive. We ended up filling up on bread and soup while waiting. To make things worse, two other tables - a small party and a larger group that arrived after us, received most of their food before we received one dish. Food Review: * Mixed Crudo - The halibut was the best part- succulent, slightly sweet, and of course, there were only four pieces. The scallops, on the other hand, were overpowered by coarse salt, making them way too salty. The salmon was pretty standard. * Dungeness Crab Linguine - Decent, but not memorable. There wasn't much crab or sauce, so I probably wouldn't order it again. * Crab Chowder - Delicious, but the portion was misleading. The bowl was super shallow, making it look like there was more than there actually was--probably the same amount as a cup. * Branzino - Fantastic! The skin was perfectly crispy, and the side of broccolini was a great touch.

Yelp
Was looking forward to having cioppino for my birthday lunch on Saturday. Drove an hour & 25 minutes to find out they were closed. Here on Yelp it says 11:30am, I got here at just before 2pm. The 1 star is just so I can write a review to tell you to update your page. Thanks to Sotto Mare for having availability and some good cioppino next door

Yelp
Awesome service on a Monday afternoon. I was in town with some friends that had never been to SF before. They wanted some San Francisco seafood, so wet came here! First, the waiter was very informative and helpful. They ordered the seafood tower and a variety of dishes-they were pleased with everything! Didn't take pics as I was thoroughly enjoying my crab chowder!!! So glad we came!

Yelp
I came here alone for lunch on a Monday in late August while visiting San Francisco. The restaurant had some diners eating but wasn't super busy. They have a very cute indoor dining area, as well as covered outdoor seating. A staff member greeted me right away and seated me immediately. He brought water and a menu right away, and was efficient and friendly. I wasn't super hungry so I just ordered a half dozen oysters and the scallop crudo. Both of these came out quickly and were very fresh. I think this would be a good spot for a date night or a leisurely lunch. Would recommend and try again if I got the chance.

Yelp
Had this on my list for a while and wanted to check it out! It's in the middle of north beach and it's definitely caters more for tourists I'd say. It has beautiful decor with an impressive wine and seafood display. The food was just so-so though. The seafood tasted fresh and we did some scallops to start with. I liked the scallops and it had a creamy sauce on top that was so tasty. The pastas were just meh. Mine had some good portions of seafood but the sauce was bit too light and bland. There's definitely better options nearby for similar food

Yelp
California Fish Market is fantastic! I come here every time I'm in San Francisco and always have an excellent meal. I dined here last week and had another wonderful experience. The space is clean and airy, reminding you that you're near the water. The seafood is incredibly fresh and well prepared. My dad and I shared the grilled calamari app (was no longer on the menu, but they still made it for us) which was truly fantastic. Some of the best squid I've ever had. For my entree I opted for the linguine with pesto and prawns, which was delightful. Both the pasta and shrimp were perfectly prepared and the pesto sauce was flavorful and fresh. Our waiter was wonderful and took great care of us. I'll definitely be back again!

Yelp
So the service was horrible !!! No water for a while or refills, no menus at sit down. The food was a hit or miss on the flavoring . Octopus chewy, seafood platter blend , linguine alfredo was really good actually , chowder good as well. We sat outside but to no fault of the restaurants we had smelly sweaty guys sitting next to us but it happens . And I didn't tip our service and then a week later check my statement and a 20$ year tip was added later on by our waiter . I called the location a really suspicious guy none owner or manager picked up and wanted me to give him my card and who I was but I didn't . I stated i wanted to speak to manager and or owner . I eventually got to the owner and he rectified it right away and it seems as though my refund is on its way but not yet. And he stated he will be firing the server . But glad it was rectified right away without a problem by the owner who was really nice and understanding. But the service and experience ruined our experience.

Yelp
Food - Loved the oyster setup and the wine selection. They got a great sear on the scallops and the past was done well. Service - Top notch and they made the night. We were here for a birthday and they went above and beyond to make it special. Ambiance - This is a place where you truly feel like you are a part of the city and not just visiting. Dog - Outside only

Yelp
This North Beach restaurant was on target in terms of food. I ordered fish and chips and it was nicely done. Crispy outside and soft inside. The fries were in point and my favorite kind - thin and crispy for some and juicy for the others! Loved it! The only feedback I had was to add 1-2 more fish pieces. It was a bit small quantity for the price. The service was great and attentive and the restaurant is roomy with places to sit at the bar. There's a full oyster bar as well. It's not the most popular of places, but it serves solidly good food IMHO.

Yelp
We came here to try its cioppino and wanted to compare it to the Sotto Mare's version. The restaurant was relatively empty at 6pm. In comparison, Sotto Mare next door looked like it had a 2 hour wait. We soon found out why. We were served free bread from Acme Bread. It was a nice surprise to see them source the bread from there since we had just come from the Ferry Building where Acme has a physical location. Sadly the positives end here. We ordered the cioppino with a side of half portion of pasta. It had no toppings or flavor. For $13, it was ridiculous. The biggest offender was the cioppino itself. The tomato-based stew tasted like canned tomato soup. It lacked complexity and depth. My wife is usually against me adding condiments to the dishes but this time she understood why I had to add Tabasco to it. Often times some restaurants have longer lines than others due to tourist hype. Not in this case. The food here simply does not compare to next door's.

Yelp
I highly recommend the Linguine Granchio ($29), which was loaded with Dungeness Crab meat with a touch of Calabrian Chili Oil. The Risotto di Mare ($29) was also packed with flavor. Despite the portion size being small, they were generous with the prawns, squid, mussels, and clams. A Negroni Sbagliato and Michelada were both $13. Half a dozen oysters were $19 (price varies on the oyster). The Beau Soleil oysters ($3.33 each) were from Canada and were light and sweet, The Kusshi oysters ($3 each), also from canada, had a more buttery and sweet flavor to them. The cup of clam chowder ($8) was really good. The service was really good. Our server, Alex L., checked in on us and even brought me a complimentary birthday dessert, which was very nice. Inside was not the spacious and there was limited seating, so we sat outside where they had heaters. They also have happy hour on Monday to Thursday from 3 Pm to 5PM. It is a pre-fixe menu and for $39 you get a choice of wine and a food dish.

Yelp
The neighboring restaurant of Sotto Mare- a good alternative if you can't snag a table at Sotto Mare. Seafood based restaurant with a fresh oyster counter at the bar- bustling restaurant with friendly staff. We got seated at the bar on a busy saturday night, so had a good view of the fresh oysters on ice in front of the bar, enticing us to order a tray of oysters to start with. They were good in terms of oysters- definitely fresh and a little bit of tabasco sauce added to the shells help add a little taste to them. We also got the linguine Granchio to share- it was good, maybe lacking a little extra flavor, could have used a little more crab in it but the crab we ate was tasty and fresh. In hindsight I should have maybe ordered a more popular dish off the menu to get a good taste of the restaurant, looking around all the food looked great on the other tables too. All in all it was a good place to split a bottle of wine and grab a bite to eat while taking in the hustle and bustle of North Beach on a weekend.

Yelp
True to the name, the variety and quality of seafood dishes were good. Although they weren't packed, I'm glad I made a reservation for one of the indoor tables. The outside was quite loud and there was consistent smoke blowing by. Service was on the slower side but our water was consistently refilled while we waited for food. Complementary bread came out with packaged butter. It was on the colder side but it went well with our soup based dishes. *Miyagi Oysters: they were cleanly shucked and served with mignonette and cocktail sauce. The dozen was priced significantly less than nearby restaurants with no compromise to the freshness and sweetness. *Scallops Crudo: the last dish served and was the most disappointing. The Calabrian chili was undetectable and the sauce was heavy on the oil. Someone was heavy with the finishing salt because was overwhelming salty. I couldn't taste the scallops at all. *Cioppino: the included crab was massive. The shrimp, clams, and mussels were my favorite as the natural sweetness paired well with the acidity. The stew was tomato forward and I would have enjoyed it more had there been more spices to mellow out the sourness. *Crab Chowder: creamy base with tons of potato chunks. I wished there was more crab or seafood flavor. It was filling and savory but there could have been more complexity. *Rigatoni Scampi alla Vodka: the pasta was al dente and nicely coated in a tomato cream sauce. The included prawn was the best I've ever had. They were incredibly sweet, soft and succulent Wished there was more than one prawn included as the shrimp were average. I found that the simpler recipes highlighted the seafood better than those covered in other elements. I hope they'll try to polish desired flavors, otherwise I'll be sticking to the oysters and grilled seafood instead of the entrees.

Yelp
We walked in today for dinner and were offered a table inside. We requested a table outside due to the hot weather, but unfortunately, there weren't any available. Later, the hostess kindly checked back to see if we'd like to move to an outside table, but we decided to stay inside since we had already ordered our food. Our waiter was very nice and friendly. The food was delicious, especially the sea urchin pasta. The ambiance was nice, a bit loud, but you could still hear your partner speak. Definitely will come back!

Yelp
Our waiter Alex (Alejandro) was so great and knowledgeable, gave us precise recommendations on food and even wine pairings, so that we have excellent impression about this place. If you are seafood / fish lover -- don't miss the Grigliata Fish Market -- large sampling platter, grilled fish, seafood and herbs. Don't need anything extra, enjoy it! My husband went for Spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare with tomato sauce and it was very good, juicy and substantial meal.

Yelp
Food was okay, went for restaurant week and do not recommend. We were in the restaurant for over 2 hours, waiting an extremely long time between each course. Additionally, lobster ravioli only had 4 pieces compared to the regular 6. I understand this was a restaurant week "deal" but if you ordered the individual items and totaled it up it would not have cost as much as the $65 "deal". Honestly feel a little ripped off by the restaurant

Yelp
This restaurant had great service and although all seats were taken we were able to sit at the bar. Service was attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is, as the name implies, fish market like! Really cool interior with a lot of history. Although, the lighting on the bar side was quite intense and took from the romantic nature of the restaurant. The food was the best part. We tried half dozen Marin oysters, bowl of crab chowder, scallop carpaccio and Branzino. I was incredibly surprised at the carpaccio and branzino, wow delicious!! The crab chowder I expected more from but it wasn't bad at all. I definitely am planning on going back to try the salmon carpaccio. Great experience here!

Yelp
Love this classic North Beach San Francisco sea food restaurant. Enjoyed a seat at the bar and imbibed in an excellent steaming fresh bowl of crab shower paired with local sour dough bread. Also enjoyed some oysters on the half shell and a side of broccoli rabe. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Extensive wine list including my the glass in a fun cavernous ambience. Come on in, you won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Phanna P.

Yelp
The restaurant was in the older party of San Fran and I read online the crudo is a must try. Did exactly that, ordered the scallop and halibut crudo. It was so tasty and fresh. I didn't care for the crab bisque. The oysters were small but fresh, less briny.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
We went for a late lunch on a warm Sunday & sat on the patio. The inside of the restaurant is small, but has a lovely nautical vibe. My friend and I were greeted & seated right away. We started with the Cesar salad, I felt like it had a bit too much dressing but it was to my friend's liking. We then tried the halibut crudo, which was fresh & a good mix of spicy & salty. My friend had the rigatoni shrimp scampi alla vodka- the sauce was creamy & flavorful. I had the linguine granchio- there was a ton of fresh crab in it & a good balance of spicy from the Calabrian peppers, buttery & salty from the crab, but I did feel like it was missing something. Both pastas were cooked perfectly. Our server was wonderful, attentive & gave us good recommendations. I will definitely be back to try other menu items. 4.5 star
google avatar

Gabi Z.

Yelp
Go here for the appetizers, specifically the oysters and Crudo if you decide to go. The pasta was OK and nothing to ride home about. The halibut was pretty dry and lacked flavor... not sure I would recommend their cooked seafood main dishes for a place that has fish in its name. However, the oysters were delicious and the salmon Crudo had a little bit of pesto and sea salt in it that made it so refreshing. I like how they have a mixture of indoor and outdoor seating since the weather is always in the low 70s in San Francisco.
google avatar

Katrina R.

Yelp
Got takeout from this place, so this review is solely for the food. I got rigatoni and the lobster roll. Servings-wise, it was sufficient, the lobster was quite generous. As to the taste though, i would say it's subpar for the price. The lobster roll flavors weren't the best. The pasta sauce was okay, but was not enough for the amount of pasta, which was also a tad undercooked. The positives: shrimp on the pasta was cooked nicely and the fries with the lobster roll was pretty good. Overall though, still not likely to order from this place again.
google avatar

Dana T.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant so much! The oysters and crudo were so fresh and came out quickly, which I appreciated since I was so hungry. The lobster ravioli was so creamy and delicious. The clam pasta was light and refreshing which balanced out our creamier lobster dish. Service was so kind as well.
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down my favorite seafood restaurant in the city! It's on a super cute street in North Beach surrounded by other yummy local restaurants, but it's definitely a standout because of how fresh their ingredients are and how flavorful the food is. The crudo is a must - generous portion, fresh seafood (the sweet sweet scallop), and refreshing sauce that pairs perfectly. All the sides I've tried are fabulous, definitely recommend the grilled calamari and brocollini. They also have a wide range of pasta options on the menu and I have enjoyed every single one I have tried! The service is always super friendly, the staff is helpful in recommending their favorites on the menu. The ambiance is cute and casual, I love catching up with friends here or coming for a low key date night. I love this place so much I often order delivery as well, the pasta comes pipping hot and everything else are packaged really well for delivery too

Yelp
Happy New Year 2024! Every NYE we celebrate with our friends for the past decade The setting is simple and conformable. Thankfully, California Fish Market focus is on the seafood, and they deliver exceptional fresh selections. We have celebrated several occasions offen seating outside. Since NYE was our 20th anniversary, we made inside reservations at 7:30 pm. since we had plans at Bimbos 365 down the street to bring in 2024. California Fish Market was a great treat to get in the mood. Our guest BOTH ordered the Branzino Mediterranean prepared dish, and they LOVE the fresh fish (see the photo where they consumed every piece of meat to the bone). Interestingly, there were different sizes of the same fish. Regardless, our Mediterranean friends proclaimed it was some of the best prepared Branzino they have ever tasted! My wife ordered the Pappardelle al Salmon and I had the simple Linguine with beautiful crab meat. All our entrées with delicious and excellent! Our server was very good. The only issue was the potatoes with the Branzino was not fully cooked and we replaced with crispy French fries. A very memorable evening celebration with great friends, exceptional seafood, great service, and comfortable ambiance.

Yelp
Food : Spaghetti neri: 4/5 I felt like the flavor was there, but the spaghetti noodles themselves was okay. Not super flavorful and the texture was on more of the al dente side. So people who don't like al dente might need it cooked a little longer Cioppino: 5/5 the soup is very tomato based so people who don't like that, just be warned. I did the soup was flavorful and enjoyed the variety of seafood in the soup. I felt like the seafood absorbed the soups flavor well. Grilled Spanish squid: 5/5 I liked the squid. It had a Smokey taste, it wasn't super overcooked and chewy so that was great. Service: we ate outside and so service was kind of mid. The servers were nice though. Ambiance: we sat outside and it was a nice sunny day with

Yelp
12.21.2023 - Late lunch with the seastar. Working on a project nearby and needed to find a place to grab a bite. This spot has been on my bookmark so we decided to give it a go. Service is attentive and friendly. There wasn't much of a crowd, mainly because we dined past lunch time. Everything on the menu sounded good so we ordered the most for a table of 2. Portions are pretty generous and the price point seems reasonable. I was a little disappointed because their crab chowder had bacon bits in it. As a person allergic to pork, it was a surprise as there weren't any description or mention of bacon being in the chowder. I was pretty sad that I couldn't have it. Uni with toast was off the menu, but they were nice enough to prepare it for us anyway. Wish the toast served for this appetizer were more thin and crunchy to complement the buttery and delicate uni. The ratio of bread to uni was off, making it heavy while the umami flavor of uni was lost. Crab Louis Salad had generous amounts of crab meat, but after one bite, it left a fishy aftertaste. The lobster roll tasted rubbery and the flavor wasn't too bad. Probably wouldn't get it again. The only dish that we found delicious was their fish of the day: Red Snapper served with risotto, broccolini and lemon caper butter. You get a whole fish that was grilled to perfection and it absorbed the lemon caper sauce so well that each bite felt so comforting. Definitely needed extra lemons on the side to squeeze on the risotto and snapper. Would definitely be back for their fish of the day and to try their Cioppino.

Yelp
It was a Happy surprise and experience to go to this restaurant, we were trying to get into Sodini's or Soto DiMare, but they were full. So we saw this place in the corner and we just went in and waited like maybe five minutes for a table and the food was amazing. I actually think that Cioppino here is much better than Soto de Mare and the Service is excellent. For dessert, try the creamy limoncello. The chef/owner puts a special touch to all the food.
google avatar

Jade J.

Yelp
Very solid experience - great service & yummy food. The Cioppino is amazing! Includes a generous amount of the variety of seafoods as well as a hefty amount of soup. Also, the complimentary bread is great for this dish although they already give you two pieces with the dish. Note: if you end with leftover soup, take it home and make paella or risotto. The pesto & crab cakes were very solid dishes as well. The pasta is what you would expect meanwhile the crab cakes were super fresh and went really well with the side arugula salad. The seating is definitely very limited inside so recommend a reservation.

Yelp
Searched for a place to have lunch that is not in the touristy places around Fisherman's wharf and found this place. It was about 20 minutes walk from Fisherman's wharf but if you like enjoyable walks, this shouldn't be a problem. Greeted warmly, seated promptly and food tasted very good! We had crab chowder and crab cakes for starters and both were delicious. My husband ordered the Halibut and commented on how fresh the fish was. I ordered spaghetti neri and though it was not as I expected from the spaghetti al nero from my trip to Venice, it was very tasty just the same with a generous amount of clams and squid slices. If you like good seafood, in the area and want to avoid mid to subpar restos, try this place.

Yelp
Was one of my favorite spots unfortunately I moved to nyc ... and I went recently and it was closed. I'm so sad, it was always empty but truly great and fresh. I hope you guys reopen I'll be moving back

Yelp
Finally got to try this place with no wait on a Wednesday afternoon. Loved that there was outdoor seating so I was able to bring my dog. My fiance and I order these items below: - Mixed dozen of Kumamoto and Beau Soliel ($36) - Crab chowder cup ($8) - Creamy and chunky, couldn't taste any crab. - Combo Crudo Calabrese ($31) - The capers and the calabrian chili complimented the halibut, salmon and scallops pretty well. Still not a fan of scallops though. - Grigliata Fish Market ($39) - The seafood was cooked to perfection, all the fish were moist and the squid was tender. The shrimp was not as bouncy as I would have liked. I loved the variety of seafood packed into this one dish. - Bucatini Sea Urchin ($29.50) - Uni pasta never fails anywhere, but it did this time. The uni was slightly bitter instead of tasting sweet or oceany and the flavor was super bland. I should have asked for salt, but I didn't want to insult the chef. For seafood, the price was reasonable. The Grigliata Fish market was cooked well, but aside from that, nothing really stood out.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this small restaurant. The fish dishes are fresh and good sized. The service is excellent. The shrimp vodka sauces pasta was made with love. It was delicious. The crab chowder soup was hardy and yummy. The cesar salad was a bit over dressed but still good. The service was fast and easy.

Yelp
Fresh Seafood prepared with simplicity! This spot lets the proteins do the talking. Every dish was well-seasoned from the protein to the veggies. The branzino had a great cook: seared with crispy skin, the fish was flaky, and the eyes were great. One caveat for the Dungeness crab is that they don't give you the brains. As Filipinos know, the brain of the crab can be the best part. Other than that, the garlic lemon herb butter sauce was on point. Then linguine granchio was tasty, it had pretty good flavor, but I wouldn't say it's worth it! I would order the squid ink pasta next time. The surf and turf was also pretty good, but I think you should focus on the seafood here. For appetizers, we got oysters and the squid dish. Both were schmackin. The oysters didn't have any shells in it and weren't weird feeling nor weird tasting. The calamari was well-infused with an acidic oil dressing. I would order both again. Service: they sat a party of 7 within 20 minutes so you can't complain. A true Italian served us and he was a delight to be around. Outside of my dish coming a bit later than the others, the service was very good!

Yelp
We came to eat dinner at California Fish Market Restaurant because of seafood cravings and saw their menu had several seafood items. It didn't disappoint! First of all, the service was spectacular. The server gave us a lot of attention and even double checked whether or not one of the items (a roe pasta) we ordered would be okay for us after describing it. He offered to switch it out in case we didn't like it (we didn't have to - it was delicious). We ordered some raw miyagi oysters, the scallop crudo, a lobster roll, and a fish roe pasta. Everything was tasty. The lobster roll had a slight spicy kick to it, which was a bit different than I expected. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance, with indoor and outdoor table seating as well as a bar area. Parking can be a little tough in the North Beach area but you can find parking if you don't mind walking a bit. Overall, good experience and would come back.

Yelp
Whenever I come to San Fran I always want chowder and seafood. Found this spot and it has good reviews. It wasn't too far from my hotel (short $10 Uber) I sat a table by the window and The bartender Alex was my server. He was very nice and knowledgeable... as a first timer I appreciate the extra time spent giving recommendations! I ordered crab chowder and it's definitely something I'd order again. Creamy and filled with lots crab and aromatics. I came for the lobster roll and boy oh boy they definitely did not short change on the lobster. Unfortunately it was bland. I still enjoyed it because that's what I had a taste for but it's definitely missing a sauce/salt or something. The lobster itself was bland. Overall I'd 100% return... definitely gonna try pasta next visit

Yelp
Delicious food, good service, and good prices. I ate today in a rainy day a crab chowder ( 1 cup) for 8 dollars . Pretty good price . I also have eaten halibut, octopus , pasta and is always delicious

Yelp
Found this cute little restaurant in SF. With a place named California fish market you better bet their seafood lived up to their name. Seafood was fresh and delicious. Do not pass in the crudo combo or the grilled octopus! It was to die for. Soft fresh and succulent. I would pass on the crab pasta. It wasn't amazing. Very light pasta dish if that's what you're looking for. Service was A1. Tentative staff. Overall great experience. Would highly recommend. They also sell their seafood like a market place which is nice.

Yelp
Made a reservation on the same day for a Friday night prime time dinner. Got there around 6pm and the restaurant was only 20% occupied. We still decided to stay because of all the raving reviews. However, food was very underwhelming and not to mention the fact that I found a piece of hair in my lobster roll which ruined my appetite for the night. The only thing that was decent was the Spaghetti Neri Pasta. It was flavorful and came with fresh clams and squid. Would skip on the Frittura Mista. It tasted old and lacked variety. Also dont get me started on my sad lobster roll. Took two fries and noticed a piece of hair on the lobster meat. Yuck! Overall not a good dining experience and they could do a better job with cleanliness!

Yelp
Fresh, delicious, amazing seafood. Order the whole menu. We have been there twice and both times got the seafood platter. The quality and service is top notch. Cozy and clean atmosphere as well.

Yelp
I love this place and am always surprised more people don't know about it! I always get the crab chowder and lobster ravioli. All of their food is amazing and you really can't go wrong. I just went with some friends and wanted to sit outside despite the weather being cold. The waiters were so kind and brought over an extra heater! Truly some of the nicest servers. My group ordered crab chowders to go around, and 4 different pastas: lobster ravioli, seafood spaghetti, uni bucatini, and crab linguine. They were all fantastic. You really can't go wrong! We also tried the combo crudo platter that had scallops, salmon, and halibut which was so good. The sauce was to die for!

Yelp
When in San Francisco, I only want cioppino, and California Fish Market has the greatest I've ever tried. The experience was even better with the pouring rain. Seafood is packed in the Cioppino stew, including mussels, clams, scallops, crab, calamari, and shrimp. Even though I would have preferred fish to be included, it was still excellent anyway! They provided us with chili oil to add for spice, and everything went well together. The red sauce version of spaghetti ai Frutti di Mare is equally wonderful and loaded with seafood. They frequently check in to see if you need anything, and the service was excellent. I'm excited to return here when I'm back in town.

Yelp
I would like to share that my experience here was definitely 5 stars. Alejandro made sure that we were taken care of, given his knowledge and customer service, we will definitely recommend this restaurant and come back. Thank you Alejandro!

Yelp
Had a quick lunch stop here on a weekend afternoon, no wait, so that's a plus. It's a casual Italian mom n pop shop kinda feel, enough menu items and wine selections. The food came out pretty good, I enjoyed my salmon pappardelle with pink sauce. I also tried friends' lobster ravioli and the raw fish thing, all pretty tasty. One star down is that I could smell the bathroom or sewage from where I ate, so that really took my appetite down a bit.

Yelp
I love California fish market! Tucked away in a little alley in North Beach next to Sotto Mare and Golden Boy Pizza, California Fish Market offers fresh fish and friendly staff. I always love getting the crudo combo which features halibut, salmon, and scallop with lemony/limey/tarte-y sauce and capers with micro greens. This fish is so fresh and I love the flavors and flakey salt. We also ordered the Branzino which was so meaty, soft, and delicious with butter and garlic. Our waiter was friendly and made sure to check up on us during our stay.
