Calle Dao - Review - Chelsea - New York - The Infatuation

"Calle Dao was probably cool when it opened in 2014. In the wake of the viral ramen burger trend, their Cuban spring rolls, which arrive at your table atop an artfully strange swoop of yellow mustard, must have stolen the hearts of food bloggers everywhere. Nowadays, this slightly too quiet fusion Cuban Chinese spot in Chelsea (with two more Manhattan locations) feels tired. Nothing you order will be bad, and some things, like a picanha steak with chimichurri, will be perfectly juicy. But unlike the side-by-side approach of older Chino Latino spots, most of the things you’ll eat here seem unnecessarily jammed together. If you find yourself in the Chelsea area with a coworker, a $9 Happy Hour margarita next to an areca palm tree will hit the spot. But once the clock strikes 7pm, go elsewhere for dinner." - Willa Moore

Chef Victoria Blamey’s Highly Anticipated Solo Debut Mena Shutters After Five Months | Eater NY

"After a fire forced it to close in March 2021, I learned that the Bryant Park mainstay Calle Dao will reopen on July 11; the location that opened in 2014 from restaurateur Marco Britti is a sibling to the Chelsea outpost opened in 2017, and the Bryant Park restaurant will be open seven days a week serving empanadas, wontons, and crispy wings, with bottomless brunch on Saturday and Sunday." - Melissa McCart

+Take $25 off your bill through the link in my profile! Came here for the happy hour (4-7pm) dishes. Enjoyed the oysters and the tostones; personally preferred the brisket one heavily over the pork. The mojito was sweet and refreshing. Overall not a spectacular meal but also not a bad place to stop by. The server was very bubbly and friendly, perhaps the most memorable part of the restaurant.

We went on a weekday night and I was thankful to have some space to set down my bag pack - typically restaurants in NYC are really congested. We were able to enjoy a peaceful conversation. The server was very friendly and interacted well with us beyond being prompt and attentive. Drinks were decent but not special. Bok choy still had some light dirt between the stalks. We asked for some hot sauce which helped spice things up nicely. Appetizers were two on the plate (see pics). Overall a nice visit mainly because of server and ambiance.

Great food and service! We reserved for dinner and had a good experience. Thought, the music is a bit loud. The Cuban fried rice, the ropa vieja noodles, the yuca fries and the grilled shrimp with garlic were very good.

Yesterday, I took my sister here for her birthday! We arrived around 5:30 pm and was immediately seated in a cozy little section in the back! Our server, Justin, was phenomenal and kept us laughing the entire time. We started off with the hot appetizers (chicken empanadas, crispy, shiitake wontons, and grilled shrimp with garlic mojo) -everything was delicious. Afterwards, we ordered the steamed shrimp wontons and our main course Bian Pao Salmon along with the ma-po maduros. Great food, great service. The overall experience was definitely a vibe. We will be back. Thanks again Justin for making our first visit to Calle Dao memorable.

My friends and I decided to visit Calle Dao for NYC restaurant week (it was our 4th restaurant that we tried for restaurant week). After seeing the picture listed on the NYC restaurant week website, we were sold! Upon visiting, the food depicted on the ad were… Up-charged? For restaurant week, in which there are supposed to be fixed course prices, which is one reason we decided to visit. +$9 for the appetizer we wanted, +$12 for the entree that made us even want to visit in the first place. There were also multiple items on the restaurant week menu selection that weren’t available to order. This is not something we experienced at any other restaurant participating. Furthermore, the up-charged items were decent - the presentation was nice, but it seemed like all of the items containing meat were overcooked. The lobster, the duck, the beef, even the tres leches - all dry. When the time came to pay, our meals went from what was supposed to be a fixed $45 price to $60 - $70 each. Not to mention the restaurant charges around a $6 fee for ANY credit card used? On top of that, the waitress quickly shifted her attitude to an annoyed demeanor when asked to split the check rather than pay all together… There were 4 of us… I’m glad we got to try the type of cuisine, but will not be going back.

Google
I’ve been to Calle Dao before the pandemic and now that it’s post pandemic.. the quality and taste isn’t there like it used to be. The food is really overpriced. 2 empanadas for $15 is wild I ordered the steak and it had no flavor. The service was good & attentive so I’ll give them credit for that. Personally won’t be returning. They do give decent portions but what’s the point when the food has no flavor? Also, they need to get with the times and get high chairs & a changing table in the bathroom. Best they have is a booster seat that’s not that great for infants.

Google
We went here while vacationing in the city and absolutely loved it. The server was so kind, and the atmosphere was PERFECT for a sexy date night. The fusión vibe, the lighting, and music made it a fun evening. Also highly recommend the lobster noodles!

The service was amazing. The food was good. I had a great time with my cousin and enjoyed the meal. All in all, decent happy hour, pretty atmosphere.

Yelp
Came here to celebrate my brother's birthday, and it was such a great experience! The food was amazing -- flavorful but perfectly balanced. A lot of fusion spots tend to overdo it with sauces or spices, but everything here was just right. Our server Justin was awesome -- super attentive, funny, and really made our dinner party a fun one. It's also a great spot for larger groups and very accommodating for kids, which made it even better for us. And the drinks? Incredible! Our favorite was the Opium -- it was so good we ended up ordering 15 of them by the end of the night! Definitely recommend this place if you're looking for great food, great vibes, and great service.

Yelp
Had the restaurant week, it is interesting to have a Cuban/Chinese mix and you know what? Most of the flavors really work well together! The happy hour was great as well. Service was attentive and quick, but that may have been because the happy hour group was bigger than the dining group. Kitchen and wait staff might have had more bandwidth. It is a dimly lit and vibrant interior with spanish covers of established songs. That was kinda cool too.

Yelp
I've been to this place a few times. Their drinks are always strong and food is consistently good. Plus they have happy hour from 12-7 for drinks. This time we just got a glass of wine, sangria and the wings. The wings came with 6 pieces and the bian pao sauce was great. A good spot for casual get togethers with good food and drinks. Price is also very good for the area a block away from Bryant park

Yelp
Calle Dao serves incredible and flavorful Cuban Chinese fusion food. Prices might be on the higher side -but totally worth it. I would definitely order their Cuban fried rice, which was recommended by our servers. The dish is an interesting combination of plantains, shrimp, pulled pork, Spam, onion, bell pepper, egg, and cilantro crema. The flavors were unexpected in the best way. For appetizers, I would say the wings are a great choice. We tried the spicy mojo wings - deliciously crispy.

Yelp
My friends and I came here for dinner on a Tuesday evening. We had a reservation and were seated upon arrival. The restaurant has some mood lighting and decor matching the cuisine: Cuban Chinese. Food: I started my meal with the shiitake wontons. They were pretty good. For my entree, I had the spiced tofu stir-fry. I enjoyed it a lot, but I wish the tofu was just a little bit more spiced. My friends and I also shared some yucca fries. They were crispy, and I would recommend. Service: Our server was a great ball of energy. They were friendly and delightful. I wish I remembered their name. Our food came out promptly after ordering. Our drinks took a little more time, but it was pretty busy when we were seated. It was also still happy hour when we arrived for dinner. TL;DR - good food with great service
google avatar

Gloria M.

Yelp
I opted for the cheesesteak sandwich made with Brisket, Peppers, Onions, and Swiss Cheese, served with a side salad and yucca fries. This was a good sized portion and the bread on the sandwich was so soft and fresh. Atmosphere is nice and the music was good!

Yelp
Stopped for happy hour drinks and oyesters. Service was great. Oysters are fresh and plump. Would love to go back.

Yelp
Little Gem in Bryant Park, you will feel like you are somewhere in Miami.... Calle Ocho... Love the decor... seriously you won't feel like you are in NYC. Good place for happy hour. We tried the Mojito, Sangria, Yuca Fries, Lechon on tostones. The food, drinks and service were great!

Yelp
Sat us on a Friday night without a problem. The atmosphere was great and vibe on point. Justin, our server, was incredible. Amazing service! Charming, funny and very attentive. My glass was never empty. Drinks were yummy and happy hour prices weren't insane. Delicious Sauvignon Blanc. My favorite white. I got the chicken and yellow rice, which was bursting with unbelievable flavor. It was so good. Everything came together perfectly and the portion size was hearty. I couldn't finish, but wish I did. We had plans after dinner so we kept it light. Can't wait to go back for more. The menu is incredible.

Yelp
A fusion restaurant near Bryant park, Calle Dao is a mix of Cuban and Chinese in a way that doesn't feel cheap but also not too fancy. I came here during their happy hour and my god is it worth it! Drinks $10 and under are such a STEAL and most of the apps are a good size to share almost all are only $15 and under. We were able to walk in and be seated because they had a table that was currently empty. They just needed it in 90 mins which was perfect since we were on our way to a show nearby. The restaurant was dimly lit but had many elements in the restaurant that gave great sources of light from the cute lamp on the tables to hanging light fixtures on the wall and neon lights. The 2 person tables were really small especially when all the food came out but we managed. The service was great, all the staff were nice and the food came out quick just how I like to see it. The food was delicious but my favorite was the build a bao! That sauce that you dip it into was so rich and really made the dish for me. Plus the yucca fries came out hot and popping with some interesting sauces. They had the normal more sweet sauce I feel like always comes with these fries but also a gopchang ketchup as well. I really enjoyed myself here and would go again for the happy hour and even try their brunch which looks yummy as well! Plus they have a bottomless brunch. Put your drinks up ! Food 8 Service 8 Atmosphere 8 What we had Mojita Red Sangria Brisket tostones Build a bao- Pork Belly Yucca Fries

Yelp
I've been to Calle Dao before & I can tell why they're popular. I had gone right before their HH ended @ 7 PM & had the ropa vieja on tostones & a caipirinha. The ropa vieja tostones were quite tasty but make sure to have them quickly or else the tostones get soggy. The caipirinha was strong & great as well. I also got the Cuban sandwich spring rolls which were quite tasty as well & a nice fusion of two cultures IMHO. All in all, Calle Dao is great. I definitely want to try the ropa vieja noodles next.

Yelp
Okay, so the concept of this place being Asian Spanish fusion was very enticing. But being so close to Bryant Park, woooooo the prices show it. I didn't get any entrées, as my friend and I were just grabbing drinks and snacking on food, but it added up. The apps we got...they were okay. It was cool to try different concepts of food, but ultimately I think I'll leave this place for tourists. Beware of getting virgin drinks, they literally cost the same as standard alcoholic ($14!) though I will give it them-- it was the best mango smoothie I ever had. It was fireeeeee honestly I'd consider going back for it
google avatar

Yelp
Cuisine is Cuban Chinese fusion. I wasn't sure how those two flavors were going to meld together but they did. All the food was yummy. The stand out was the grilled shrimp appetizer. My Cuban fried rice was really good. They did a good job of incorporating Cuban flavors into fried rice. I loved it. Both desserts, flan and tres leches were delicious. I not usually a fan of flan and I really enjoyed it. The ambiance was so cool and I loved the music they played. This place is worth a visit.

Yelp
Weird little place - it was rowdy at 5:30 due to bigger happy hour groups, to the point where my husband and I could barely hear each other. Service was very friendly and the food was tasty, but very overpriced. I'd come here if there were discounts - like paying with inkind or if they do restaurant week menu, but full price was not worth. Lobster noodles - pretty good! Shitake wontons - very mushroom forward, so only like if you love mushroom lol we enjoyed it Seafood paella - good amount of seafood on top, rice was cooked ok, overall flavor way sweeter than we expected no drinks and total bill was 100+ so....
google avatar

Luna C.

Yelp
The service is five-star--warm and attentive. However, the food didn't quite have the wow factor. I'm not sure if I just ordered the wrong dishes. Crispy Pork Build-A-Bao - Though it's supposed to be crispy, it was dry and lacked flavor, making it not worth the price. Bian Pao Crispy Wings - These were fine but not quite memorable. Papas Rellenas - Out of the three appetizers, this was my favorite. I've always been a fan of croquettes, so I couldn't resist. Black Rice Seafood Paella - It was pretty decent, and they were generous with the seafood. If I return, I'd be curious to try their brunch next time.

Yelp
5/5 Stars!!!! Came here tonight for our last dinner in New York. So worth it. We ordered the Chicken with Yellow Rice, the Cuban Fried Rice, empanadas, and oysters. The food was made to perfection! The staff were kind and provided excellent service. The drinks were smooth and tasty. Pricing: $$($) Staff: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Drinks: 5/5

Yelp
Had a terrific experience here this evening after visiting Bryant Park's Winter Market. Got here about 6PM or so and found the atmosphere to be of Cuban AND Chinese styles, which is what the fusion of this restaurant represents. Even the music here consisted of covers of old classics (rock and otherwise) put to a Cuban beat. I had a Garden Salad that was very good, though I would have liked more dressing (or a dressing with a slightly stronger flavor). The main course though, that was excellent. I had the Ropa Vieja with Noodles. Unfortunately, they ran out of noodles, so they warned me that they would serve it on a bed of rice. I appreciated the advanced warning and agreed to it, and it was delish. I could taste the Chinese influence on the Cuban dish. The wife had the Tofu Stir Fry with Pork Belly... excellent flavors. Our kid had the Salmon, which I was really proud about, and she loved it. Her first time having salmon in a restaurant... I was thrilled for her to like it since it's so healthy, and she's otherwise a vegetarian. The bathroom was clean and adorable and the service was really very good. We would return for sure.

Yelp
Yum, Yum, Yum! Chinese Cuban food! How can you go wrong? During our annual trip to New York City, we decided to go to Calle Dao on Bryant Street. The restaurant wasn't far from our hotel and we have been wanting something different. A old friend of mine met me, my daughter Muff and my sister Luch for lunch at Calle Dao. Come on man! The menu is off the hook! I'm talking Cuban sandwich spring rolls, steamed shrimp wontons, crispy wings, pork belly sandwiches, seared salmon and Cuban fried rice y'all! How can you go wrong at this restaurant? You can't! The menu is too expansive and delicious for anyone to be disappointed. We ate things so fast at this restaurant, that I almost forgot to take any pictures of what we were eating. The decor of the restaurant reminds you of Cuba with a little Chinatown in the mix. A little eccentric and a little retro all at the same time. So mixing Cuban food and Chinese food together makes perfectly good sense in this environment. Two very strong cultural places that have had an extremely outsized reputation for food experimentation is our pleasure at Calle Dao. We didn't have a single bad item and I wanted to know the secret of their Bian Pao Salmon and Cuban Sandwich Spring Rolls.

Yelp
Visited Calle Dao on a date. We didn't have reservations but luckily there was space available. The restaurant itself is pretty small. The vibe inside is cozy and a little intimate so nice for a date! Our waiter was also nice which is a plus. The food was pretty decent nothing super special about it. I had the salmon, bok choy, with rice. I wanted the steak but my stomach wasn't feeling too good. My date had noddles with shredded steak on top and that was pretty good. Drinks were also just decent. All in all, I would recommend as a casual spot to try if you're in city or coming from Penn station and want to grab a bite to eat!

Yelp
We went for an early dinner at 5pm and noticed they had a happy hour special until 7pm. It was easy to make a same day reservation for 7 people. We shared a bunch of oysters, small bites (ranging from $10-15 a plate) and a couple of entrees. We also ended up sharing the tres leches and flan (which at first they said they didn't have any ready but the staff came back 10 mins later and said it's ready to be served if we wanted it). The food overall was good but did lack some flavor (a lot of the dishes tasted a bit bland); chicken wings were the best out of all, tbh. Even with the happy hour deal, it's a bit pricey based on portion size. The drinks on the other hand were tasty (I had two glasses of margaritas and the tropi crystal). Overall, a cool concept of mixing Cuban and Chinese food but better to go for the drinks if going for the happy hour special.
google avatar

Victoria K.

Yelp
Although we loved our food and drinks, I feel like the service left a lot to be desired. Our server just disappeared for long periods of time. We were sitting in the front of the restaurant and on more than one occasion we had to ask the hostess if she could track down our server for us. The restaurant was NOT busy at all, so that wasn't an excuse. Aside for feeling a bit neglected and ignored, the food was truly delicious. We sampled a variety of dishes, but some of my favorites were the chicken empanadas, shrimp wontons, and the lobster noodles. The food is good enough to get me to come back but I would really hope for better service next time.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
I was supposed to meet up with another lawyer for lunch, but he cancelled on me last minute. I picked this spot because it was nearby, and though the service was super attentive, the food was mediocre. I think the best food was the fried croquettes, but anything fried is always yummy. It wasn't that crowded, and the cubano sandwich was fine. I would pass on this joint, even if the ambiance was lovely.
google avatar

Reshma B.

Yelp
Just came back from dinner at Calle Dao, which I had been wanting to try for a while. Sorely disappointed that they were missing several key items, at 6pm on a Saturday. They were out of lobster - so no lobster noodles or lobster for the paella. They were also out of clams for the paella. Finally, we ordered flan for dessert and guess what? No flan. It surprised me how many items were unavailable. Overall, the ambiance, service, and food that we *could* order was good, but I really wanted to try the lobster noodles so that bummed me out from the start.

Megan G.

Yelp
I really enjoyed dinner here, and I'll definitely be back! We ordered shiitake wontons, chicken empanadas, grilled shrimp, and lobster noodles, which was a great amount of food for our party of 2. The flavors of all the dishes were strong and very unique. My absolute favorite dish was the lobster noodles, followed by the wontons! The ambiance was livelier than I was expecting, and very fun. And the service was great from our main server as well as the additional servers / food runners, who also helped to make sure everything was perfect.
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
This was my first time having Chinese Cuban fusion and it exceeded my expectations! It was fairly easy to make a reservation, surprisingly and they have several locations throughout the city. It has a dim, cozy vibe for dinner. A couple members of our party were running late but the staff was extremely patient and didn't rush us. Here's what we ordered: - Chicken empanadas: Pretty standard empanadas. We loved the green sauce! - Crispy shiitake wontons: The mushroom flavor is pretty strong, so may or may not be for you depending on how much you like mushrooms. - Ropa vieja noodles: This was one of my favorite dishes. The noodles were cooked really well and the meat was really tender and flavorful. - Lobster noodles: I really loved this dish and would highly recommend it if you have to choose one noodle dish. There are some solid bites of lobster and the sauce was packed with flavor. I haven't had a noodle dish like this before! - Black rice seafood paella: The paella was a little salty but the black rice had a slightly different consistency compared to brown/white rice. There was lots of seafood and it's a great dish to share. We passed on dessert since none of the items really stuck out, but this was such a great meal! Food came out quickly and the service was great.
google avatar

George C.

Yelp
I have passed by this place many times but never thought to come in. But I saw they have happy hour everyday from 4/5ish (or earlier?) til 7, which is amazing! It's a great place to get happy hour bites or standard dishes, which looked really good. Drinks were pretty strong, especially the caipirinha. So it's a fantastic place to stop by, hang, move on or stay for dinner. I will say the food menu does seem pricey for what the items are - $25-33-ish for a fried rice/noodle dish. We didn't eat dinner but the place was packed so it's a testament to how good the food likely is. It seems like a good deal for restaurant week to take advantage of
google avatar

Roslyn H.

Yelp
Added an extra $12 on top of the $45 restaurant week dinner menu to get the lobster noodle entree. The noodle was perfectly al dente but the lobster was overcooked. I was disappointed at this overpriced $38 dish. For the appetizer, the crispy shiitake wontons were perfectly fried. The papas rellenas were okay but too heavy for a starter. For dessert, the chocolate lava cake tasted much better than the tres leches. Service and atmosphere were good. The $45 restaurant week dinner menu would give you a good bang of the buck. Just don't add the extra $12 because that totally offsets the restaurant week discount. With tax and tips, it came out to be $147 for two people. Not worth the high price.
google avatar

Yelp
Crispy pork belly and the drinks are the stars at this happy hour. The pork belly is insanely good - perfectly crispy outside, tender inside. Seriously, order this! The empanadas are decent but idk if I'd order them again. We ordered their white sangria and it was so good! The happy hour prices were great so I ended up ordering 3 lol. I'd definitely come back again for their happy hour. Our server was also the best and they were so attentive. Highly recommend checking them out!

Yelp
Overall: 3/5 Food: 3/5 - We came in for lunch on a Friday and it was pretty empty. We both got the lunch special which came with a sandwich/burger with yucca fries and a salad ($27 including tip). I got the cuban sandwich and my cousin got the pork belly sandwich. The cuban tasted like any other cuban I have tried. This restaurant's concept is supposed to be a cuban chinese fusion but failed to see or taste any chinese flavors in my meal. The yucca fries were a bit dry and not salted. I tried my cousin's sandwich and hers was alright. Service: 4/5 - Fine service. Nothing to note. But I am not a fan of the pad tip done right in front of the server (and neither was my cousin). Value: 3/5 - Alright for what you get but would not come back just because there are so many restaurants in the nyc area. Overall, this place was not bad but not great enough to come back for or recommend. It was nice to try out once but I do not see myself coming back.

Yelp
Came here for a team dinner with 18 people. Ambiance and vibes were great. So were Jessica and our server, Jeremy (I believe that was his name). Since we were a giant group, they had to split us into 2 tables, but we couldn't really converse across, so we just ended up only getting food and drinks, then bouncing. My team tried a bunch of things on the menu. The standouts were the mushroom wontons, the Cuban spring rolls, and all of the noodle dishes. I got the seafood paella, which was slightly under as the black rice still had a slight crunch to it. Drinks were done well. Many Manhattans were ordered, and I really enjoy the Caipirinha.

Tyler L.

Yelp
The concept of this place is interesting. It's a Chinese-Cuban place. If you've traveled around Latin America, you would know that there are Asian people in all of the countries. Many of those countries like Cuba even have their own Chinatown. This place tries to recreate the food and style of that place. While the intent is there, the execution could be better. The decor is nice and casual and does give off an old school Chinatown vibe. The menu is where this place is lacking. The menu is pretty limited and only has a handful of appetizers and a handful of main dishes to choose from. I'd recommend the Ropa Vieja noodles, which are Chinese style noodles combined with Cuban flavor. While the food was okay, it was nothing memorable. You're better off going to the real Chinese-Cuban places in NYC like La Dinastia that were started by those immigrants decades ago. There, you'll get bigger portions, lower prices, and more flavorful food.
google avatar

Jessica Y.

Yelp
Everything was absolutely delicious and I can't wait to come back! We had the ropa vieja noodles, steamed shrimp wontons, Cuban sandwich spring rolls, chicken empanadas, and spicy crispy wings. If I had to pick, I'd say the noodles and wontons were my favorite but everything was phenomenal. I couldn't stop raving about my meal all day!
google avatar

Rossy M.

Yelp
Good spot for happy hour! $10 cocktails, decently prized small bites, and great service. I tried both the mojito and the Fidel cocktail during my visit and the latter was my favorite. In terms of food, the Ropa Vieja Tostones were very tasty and so were the Sesame Garlic wings. The grilled shrimp skewers were just okay so I'd probably skip. Unfortunately I can't recall our waiter's name but he was awesome and made sure to continuously check on our table to make sure we were good. Solid overall!
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
Came in for lunch since I work nearby. I was always curious about this because Cuban Chinese food sounds very interesting! I love when fusion is done right. As an Asian American, fusion is how I'd classify half my cooking as well. I got their lunch special and got a ropa vieja cheesesteak with yucca fries and salad. The salad was a standard side salad. The yucca fries were not bad,but a little dry. The ropavieja cheesesteak was nicely portioned with a decent amount of filling, but lacked the strong punch of spices that ropa vieja needs. The only Asian note I found from this was that the dip for the fries tasted like an Asian sweet chili sauce I've had before. Honestly, I was pretty disappointed. I think Calle Dao has a good idea and vision, but needs better execution. Maybe I'll come back for happy hour? I hear the cocktails are decent.

Yelp
You really can't beat the happy hour here. I stopped in after a friend and I were let down by Isla & Co. around the corner and were really craving some oysters ($2 each during happy hour from 4-7, all 7 days of the week). Calle Dao delivered and then some. This is a fusion spot that specializes in rum cocktails, which we took full advantage of. Their Fidel cocktail (white rum, Aperol, elderflower liquor with grapefruit and lime juices) went down so easy that I downed three of them. Luckily for my wallet, they were only $10 each. The food specials are also worth trying out. In addition to the oysters we ordered the grilled shrimp and steamed wontons, which were small but satisfying. Our bartender was super attentive and extremely nice, and we felt well taken care of. The ambiance in here is cool and low key. I'd definitely come back here again.

Yelp
There are different calle dao's in nyc. So, I can't compare the different ones as this is the only location that Ive been to. I went on a nice sunny afternoon, so it's a different atmosphere versus a cold day. They open up the floor to ceiling walls or windows when it's nice out and the atmosphere changes. The vibe is different here, and it feels like you're in Cuba. If you go towards the back, the interior brings out the restaurants vibe. Even the bathroom has writings in Spanish and Chinese, so that brings out the fusion part of the restaurant. Since I went during lunchtime, we ordered off the lunch menu. Got a hot appetizer first to start off called the steamed shrimp wontons, which wasn't that good. I wouldn't suggest it because the soybeans with chili oil didn't seem like a good combination. Also ordered from the lunch special, which comes with any sandwich or burger with salad & yucca fries. I tried both the Cubano and the Ropa Viejas cheesesteak sandwich, which I can't complain about. All in all, I would return to try other things off their menu.

Yelp
Their staff training clearly emphasized both efficiency and warmth. This place stands out dramatically. Their staff combines a warm manner with helpfulness. The Calle Dao - Bryant Park makes everyone feel welcome. Make sure to experience this place when local.

Yelp
This spot combines the best of Cuban and Chinese flavors, all wrapped up in a gorgeous Cuban-themed setting. You have to try their grilled shrimp with garlic mojo - it's a seriously next-level deliciousness. And if you're into comfort food with a twist, their Cuban fried rice and Lobster Noodles dishes are total winners. The service is amazing. Also they have amazing drinks. If you are up for unforgettable dining experience, head over to calledao, you won't regret it. Featuring: Cuban fried rice Lobster noodle Crispy shiitake wonton Grilled shrimp with garlic mojo Warm chocolate cake Tres Leches Pinacolado Grape fruit mojito

Yelp
We had an amazing time here our server was amazing and he was so funny. He even offered to take a picture of the group before the food came. We ordered 3 appetizers and 3 entrees. We got the oysters, the wings, and grilled shrimp with garlic mojo and they were all very good. For our main dishes we then ordered Chicken and Yellow Rice, Chimichurri Flank Steak, and Cuban Fried rice. Out of the 3 dishes we really enjoyed the Chicken and Yellow rice. It was a smaller restaurant and there was music playing, it was hard to hear our table sometimes and it felt like we had to yell to talk to each other. Overall really enjoyed this place

Yelp
Really excited about the creative food combinations but wasn't as excited about the hostess nor the results. The Cuban sandwich spring rolls were a little dry but crispy. The dipping sauce was a little bland. The black rice seafood paella sounded great with an ample portion of seafood variety but was dry and overcooked and salty. I do like the location but my main concern was my first impression where the hostess wouldn't seat me until my party showed up. The place was very empty at this time. After my colleague showed up, we were seated at a table for 4 since we expected another colleague to arrive but didn't. After being served our water and placing our order, the hostess asked us to move to a different table for 2. The issue is we ordered enough food for 4 so the table was very small and we ended up having to eat the appetizers and salad quickly to accommodate for table space. While I understand the dining room isn't that large, I was disappointed at having to move after being seated and drinking and placing our order. Didn't feel like they valued us, especially after we spent so much to try the food. Many more options in the area with much better service!

Yelp
mediocre food with terribly tiny portions. we had an inkind $25 off $50 deal but still came away from this meal feeling really ripped off. most of what we ate was greasy and lacked flavor. please avoid this place.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here with friends! They have a good happy hour with really good cocktails and food specials. Service from Justin was great (he was fun, nice and checked on us often). We had the ropa vieja tostones to start (yum!), and I had the chimichurri flank steak with black beans which were really good, rice and maduros. I would definitely come back to this fusion restaurant with a lively atmosphere!

Yelp
I visit NYC every couple years and each time, I grab happy hour here. I hadn't been back since the pandemic and I was happy to see that this restaurant survived and is doing well. The restaurant was just as I remembered it. They do a good job of lighting and styling the inside in a way that makes you feel tucked away. The staff are always nice and friendly as well. I hear people sometimes sounding fearful of NYC servers for being quick and brusque - this isn't one of those places, at least in my experiences. Our favorite food item is the wings and I love their caipirinhas. During the holidays, this is a convenient spot to grab some bites and a drink before walking over to Bryant Park for the holiday market.

Yelp
I never leave disappointed after eating here. The service is amusing, kind, and thorough. The service stood out while the food showed innovation. The spot welcomes you like an old friend. Generally speaking, service was solid and I plan to return.

Yelp
Came here for brunch. It was mostly empty, but I kinda liked it that way. No loud music, just vibes lol. The food was ok. Portions were kinda small. I opted for the add on of the yucca fries. They were good but it was like 6 pieces. They were big, but left me wanting more. I didn't have it, but the bottomless brunch seemed like a good deal. The food was good, but I felt small portions and I left hungry. I feel like this would make a better happy hour spot. Plates feel smaller and the drinks were good. The bathroom while clean, smelled like urine. I was gonna give 3 stars but gave 4 because service was good.
