This was surprisingly a good place! I was surprised by the noodles. They were delicious! I will say I’m giving it 4 stars because the pricing is high. Given the area, I understand why. The service was good as the server was very attentive and friendly and the noodles are what stood out the most to me. The egg rolls were just okay, the oysters were decent and the tres leches were also good but slightly dry. Nice place to come with a friend or group of friends as there is plenty of seating or even alone to sit at the bar.

I came to a Salsa party here. What a great surprise to have Cuba libres with Havana Club. The guac is amazing and the bartender is friendly!

Heard great things about this place from restaurant week so had to try this Cuban Asian fusion. The downtown location was cute with a front porch in nice weather. Great ambiance with old school vibe. We made it for happy hour and got wine and sangria. Sangria was too sweet in my opinion. For food we got Cuban egg rolls which were stuffed and came with a good sauce. Next was mushroom wontons also great flavor. Dishes were salmon, chicken and rice, and tops vieja noodles. Meat was tender and juicy served in a rich broth with thick noodles. Yummy and filling. Overall, I was expecting a more from the hype and popularity but still a good experience.

Google
Cute restaurant in the heart of West Village. Very nice space outdoors. We ordered appetizers that were delicious, the Cuban sandwich spring rolls were out of this world and the tostones rellenos were also very good. As main dish we ordered fried rice and the mushroom noodles. Both were very good. The only reason why I'm not giving the food a 5 is because I find it overpriced for what it is. $28 for a fried rice seems too much. The appetizers were reasonable.

I really really miss Favela Cubana...but Calle Dao is reallllly good too! I had the ropa vieja is was yummy, next time I'll ask for maduros with it, tostones aren't sweet enough. Then the Bartender suggested the Cuban rice entrée...I reluctantly accepted and was amazed! The Cuban rice far exceeded my expectations. Even tho they got rid of the two beautiful murals from Favela, I love Calle Dao!🙏🏽❤️

Google
If I could give this place six stars, I would. Had the shitake lo mein with garlic hoisin sauce and it was out of this world. The texture and flavor were of Michelin quality. The interior is equally impressive and a work of art. A place this ingenious would, of course, only exist in New York! I thought I would be boring by ordering the Tahitian vanilla ice cream for dessert, but even that was some of the best ice cream I’ve had. Nothing artificial about it! Long to return.

Calle Dao serves Cuban-Chinese dishes. We chose this for our first winter restaurant week of 2024. We came here slightly early to enjoy their happy hour of 6 bucks for cocktails, house wines, and draft beers all week, together with their delicious small bites. I recommend not to miss the happy hour fun! The 5-piece chicken wings sesame garlic were finger-licking good. For our dinner, we shared Cuban sandwich spring rolls and chicken empanadas for appetizers. We then proceeded with our main entree of Chicken and yellow rice; Marinated Soy Chicken, Saffron Rice, Chorizo, Peas, Sofrito, Scallion-Ginger Sauce, and Bianpao salmon; Seared Salmon with Firecracker Sauce, Sautéed Garlic Bok Choy with White Rice and Crispy Shallots. We also couldn’t resist sharing them. We capped the dinner with molten lava chocolate cake with vanilla sorbet and Tres Leches. Although there were some highs and lows with the flavor of the dishes that we had, overall we had a wonderful dinner night here. With good price points, food selections, and awesome customer service, we will come back to try their other dishes.

Went here for restaurant week & it was fantastic! The steamed shrimp wontons & spring rolls to start were delicious! The dirty rice and lobster noodles were also incredible! And lastly the lava cake & tres leches cake were wonderful. The service was also incredible. I've never received my drinks so fast. The staff were very attentive and incredibly helpful. Will definitely be going back!

Yelp
New name , same location still great food and drinks. While I've been to their other locations for dinner I come to this one mainly for lunch. Located in the heart of the NYU campus it's a part of the hustle and bustle. They have a greAt lunch special and when the westher is nice ask to sit near the open "windows" M-F they have a lunch special for $15 which is a selection of their sandwiches/burger, sLad and yucca fries. It's great for a long lunch to catch up. I went with the Cuban sandwich , a cocktail and a cafe con leche

Yelp
I ordered the happy happy tostones with ropa vieja(12). It was not good. The tostones were soggy. The ropa vieja had no flavor. As someone with a Cuban wife and I grew up in Miami, I feel like I know good Cuban food better than anyone else on the planet. This isn't it. I expected extra sabor from the Chinese side, but they served bland food. Super bland. There were only 3 other people in the restaurant when I arrived, no excuses. Two stars because the music was good, 1 star for the food. I wish you the best, but I will not come back. Hasta nunca Calle Dao.

Allison C.

Yelp
Creative Cuban Chinese fare worth trying at least once. Not to be confused with historical Cuban Chinese food, most of these the fusion dishes don't exist in traditional settings. The happy hour appetizers were nice and is a good place to do small plates and happy hour drinks. If you try one thing, I'd recommend the mapo maduros! It was an interesting combo, and the sweet plantain with mapo sauce worked well together.

David G.

Yelp
For a bottomless brunch option-highly recommend as it's 90 minutes for mimosas/beer/sangria for only $10 but the food seems to be more on the pricey side to offset that. It's not your traditional brunch since it's Cuban Chinese food so it was a nice departure. The lobster noodles was not really as great as the price tag that accompanied it-it was just not super flavorful and did not mix well. I did hear good things about the Cuban rice. I'd probably come back and try out new items but service was great and they were attentive to our drinks as it was timed.

Yelp
Visited Calle Dao Downtown for lunch with a friend. They have a $14.99 lunch special which includes any of their sandwiches or burger with a side salad and yucca fries. It was a great option for me, but my friend pointed out the lunch special does not contain an option for non meat-eaters. Overall I give Calle Dao a 4 star review because we still had an enjoyable and affordable lunch, we didn't feel rushed at all and the customer service was attentive, we had our water refilled when we needed it, but we're not rushed at all. My burger was decent, the yucca fries were okay, the sauce they came with was better, and the salad was my favorite part. Lots of fresh vegetables and nicely dressed but not too heavy, I would visit again for the lunch specials or happy hour, they also have a restaurant week special going on right now which looks great. I do hope they consider adding a chicken or vegetarian option to the lunch specials menu!

Ebony C.

Yelp
I've been coming here since it was Favela Cubana. The takeover by Calle Dao is not a bad thing. They still have the HH specials and I can get my Caipirinha and be the happiest camper at 3pm on a regular day off of work or a summer day. I ventured her for a Sunday brunch. For $9.99, you can add the bottomless option...Ayyyyyyy!! I couldn't partake b/c I was recovering from the night before lol. On the table: Ropa vieja noodles....so good. It was a little oily but still super tasty. Sweet potato hash to soak up the previous night..lol French toast & bacon...no trace of it left when we were done. The service was great...they kept my companions glass full the entire 90mins. They also didn't make a big deal about the entire table getting the bottomless special. The space is still a similar set up to the previous spot...just brighter. I dig it! Soooo basically, I'll live here in the summer...

Yelp
Stepping into this tastefully decorated restaurant transports you to a different world, the Havana of yesteryear. The service is excellent, the food is interesting Cuban-Chinese fusion executed well enough. You'll always find a deal here; they participate in Restaurant week and offer daily lunch specials and happy hour specials. You are guaranteed to have a pleasant time here!

Ashley P.

Yelp
This place was amazing and so good. The service was better than most places in nyc. The food came out timely and everything was delicious. I am definitely going back.

Katelyn N.

Yelp
Place just was bad. It was empty at peak dinner time, drinks were pretty cheap during happy hour but did not amaze me. Food was pricey for value and it was not even that good. Overall was disappointed in this dinner and i will never return.

Elaine M.

Yelp
I'm actually shocked that this place isn't more popular, as their bottomless brunch deal is probably some of the best in the city with tasty, unique food to pair. My friends and I are always able to walk in with a big party and while the servers are very strict about the 1.5 hour time limit they are extremely attentive and do not skimp on their pours (lol). The food is good but not amazing, but it's a nice open space and you will always have a fun time here. The hash is a lot of food but the flavor combo is a bit odd, but the mushroom noodles are delicious though one of the more expensive dishes on the brunch menu. I definitely recommend coming and checking it out!

Aidan O.

Yelp
Solid Cuban-Chinese fusion. The staff was very welcoming and patient. We ordered a good amount of food-- lobster noodles, mushroom noodles, steak, tiger salad, mushroom wontons, and some plantains. Everything was really solid! The cocktails were OK, a bit too sweet as well as the sangria, but still OK. The location is a bit interesting as it's adjacent to an NYU dormitory so it feels a little out of place. And unfortunately, it was very empty except one other group next to us. Regardless, it made for a nice quiet place to dine with decent food. They initially forgot to include our lobster noodles, but immediately put in the order and had it out to us in no time.

Moeka S.

Yelp
I went there as a work outing and even though we were in a large group their service were prompt and efficient!! I LOVED their food and was absolutely pleasantly surprised by how they executed their fusion dishes. This is how I want any culturally fusion dishes to be like. Take good things from each and create something new that's not too hang up on the original dishes. The flavor texture and sauces were just all well thought out. They have a happy hour menu for food and drinks so I kept ordering bunch of happy hour food and they were still delicious. I would absolutely go back again!

Cheryl W.

Yelp
this spot is right by washington square park that serves cuban chinese fusion. they also offer 90 min of bottomless brunch with a purchase of an entree or sandwich for $9.99! everything was so delicious. the lobster ox noodles is a must. the salmon was delicious with the firecracker sauce. you have to get the tres leches. it was one of the best I've ever had. the inside is spacious. they also have outdoor dining as well. the servers were attentive.

Erin G.

Yelp
Really underwhelmed by this meal. This fusion idea sounded to interesting and promising but I don't think that many of the dishes we tried worked. Don't recommend: spring rolls, ma po maduros, Do recommend: wings, duck bao, shrimp skewer Still pondering: beef noodles (found them weirdly peanutty) Unfortunately the service wasn't very friendly either. Overall, I wouldn't seek out this spot.

Glenda P.

Yelp
Calle dao is a must, the food is delicious and the ambiance is cozy..the service was great, our waiter checked on us from time to time to make sure we enjoyed everything. Can't wait to go back.

Emily T.

Yelp
Overall (3.5/5): Great option for cheap bottomless brunch! The drinks were definitely worth the $10 for 90 minutes and highly recommend the sangria. The service was great, especially since we were a party of 21 people. They have both an indoor and outdoor space, but could still fit our large party inside right in front of the bar. Duck Baos (4/5): Interesting fusion take, duck was crispy and tasty but I wasn't a fan of their two sauces outside of the traditional hoisin sauce. Comes with 3 buns and was quite filling! Steak & Eggs (3/5): I love a good chimmichuri sauce, but the steak was average and my over medium eggs were over cooked. Cake cutting fee $3/person

Yelp
Overall: Food was pretty solid, but the experience was just ok. It was a good place to try on restaurant week, but might try the Chelsea location instead since that seems much more popular. Food: 5 Drinks: 4 Service: 4 Value: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Food: - Chicken Empanadas - Steamed Shrimp Wontons - Ropa Vieja Noodles - Bianpao Salmon - Chocolate Lava Cake We got the chicken empanadas and the steamed shrimp wontons as appetizers. They were both good size for appetizers. The wontons had a particularly good chili sauce on them. We shared the ropa vieja noodles and the bianpao salmon. The noodles were the highlight of the meal. The brisket was very tender and flavorful and piled on top of saucy noodles. The salmon had a nice glaze. Drinks: I got the Chan Chan and my girlfriend got the Maxver. They were creative with interesting flavors Service: The waiters were relatively attentive, but didn't add much. Basically just took our order, delivered our order, and filled water glasses. Fine, but nothing spectacular. Value: We each ordered the special NYC Restaurant Week menu for $45 and a $17 cocktail. It came with an appetizer, an entree, and a desert. Seemed like a reasonable deal compared to the a la carte menu. Atmosphere: The place was trendy, but overall was pretty empty for a Friday night. Easy to get a table, but overall pretty dead and lacking energy.

Yelp
Had my birthday dinner here with my family because I was craving latinx and Asian food and absolutely loved it. Calle Dao executed some amazing Latin/Asian flavors that compliment each other very nicely. The staff is amazing, from the bartenders to the servers and I really enjoyed my meal and drinks. Must try delicious dishes: Ropa vieja noodles Salmón Ropa vieja with rice and beans The drink that has run and mango sorbet (forgot it's name but it's amazing!) Dishes that get a mention, get them depending on your tastebuds and if you're in the mood: Papas rellenas Empanadas Passion fruit mojitos Cuban sandwich spring rolls. Dishes you can skip: Tostones (they are super dry and at the same time super oily-- these being so bad actually lost them a star -- I couldn't fathom how you can mess up tostones.. Dulce de leche dessert: it's kinda like a mousse but it was too frozen? Not the right consistency. But it was tasty nonetheless so I'm thinking maybe the one I got just had an off day.

Esther P.

Yelp
Everything in this meal was amazing! Didn't know what to expect but it was better than what I had imagined. Great fusion flavors but the Lobster noodles had to be my favorite! Workers were friendly and accommodating and it had an intimate ambiance. Not the best lighting for photos, had to use phone flash and the lamps at the tables for support but great place to go for a great meal!

Lovelyn M.

Yelp
Great happy hour for both drinks and food. This location doesn't seem to get very much foot traffic, but everything we got from the Happy Hour menu was delicious. The caipirinha drink was refreshing and everything from the yucca, empanadas, egg rolls, and fried rice was delicious.

Anne F.

Yelp
A coworker invited us out for happy hour. It was four of us all together. I haven't heard of this place before but I appreciate her for exposing it to me. It's an interesting restaurant that serves Cuban-Asian fusion food...and they know exactly what they are doing. I left afterwork with one coworker. The other two had worked from home so they were already there when we got there. They ordered off the happy hour appetizer menu. We had two different tostada: pork and ropa vieja (beef), and spicy chicken wings. My one coworker really liked the chicken wings. They were spicy for sure. I wasn't a huge fan of the ropa vieja tostatas; I felt that the beef was slightly bland. The pork one was good though. That was seasoned well. We also decided to order off the main menu and got 2 main courses to share. We went with the mushroom noodle and tofu stir-fry, two great choices. The tofu stir-fry was so good. The tofu looked like mushrooms and didn't even taste like tofu...it was mind-blowing. And the mushroom noodles were also really tasty. I am really glad we got those dishes and I recommend them as well. The ambience was nice, since it was a Thursday, it wasn't too crowded. The lighting was a little on the dimmer side so the pictures may have a glare but overall, it was a nice place, with a very nice waiter, and quiet environment. The prices were also not too shabby. It didn't break the bank and we got good food out of it. So if you haven't tried this place, give it a shot.

John S.

Yelp
Yes, 5 stars! This is a great place with great food and service. My girl and I went there on Friday, 06/14/2024 and enjoyed it. Go there!

Giuliana A.

Yelp
Such a great place for happy hour! $6 cocktails?! Unbeatable in this area. My mojito was delicious and strong and the sangria was a must have. Also got the happy hour food specials, the ropa vieja on tostones and the lechón on tostones. Both amazing but our favorite was the ropa vieja. So flavorful! For an entree we got the Binpao salmon. Pretty safe choice on our part but enjoyed it nonetheless. The firecracker sauce added a little extra zing. Place is definitely worth checking out. Service was top notch and the ambiance was the perfect mix of not too dark and not too light.

Tiasha L.

Yelp
So many delicious options, great service, relaxing ambience -- fun for groups, couples, and families

Ashley N.

Yelp
The flavors at this restaurant are everything! I mean, Cuban + Chinese fusion? I didn't expect anything less. The vibes are also great. Fun and easy restaurant to check out in the WV!

Maddy Z.

Yelp
We came here for restaurant week and were not disappointed! $30 for an appetizer or dessert as well as a main is a STEAL, which is why they didn't let us do the restaurant week menu with the $9.99 bottomless mimosas. I was personally very impressed by my ropa vieja noodles, so flavorful and perfectly cooked! The egg rolls are also a good appetizer, especially with the mustard. I was able to get the bottomless option and the sangria is a must-try if you're here! A great, quiet place to catch up with friends, and the service was amazing as well. Our server knew we would need a whole pitcher of mimosas so she brought us enough to last the meal!

Jessica S.

Yelp
The food here was extremely disappointing, and didn't have any authentic elements of either Cuban or chinese cuisine. I got the chimichurri Picahna over rice and every element of the dish was bad. I asked for rare and it came out medium, also picahna is neither Cuban or chinese and its a very rare cut that I like a lot but the cut they gave was definitely not that- cheap lean steak, I felt that this almost bordered on fraud. Chimicurri was too little and flavorless. My friends was equally disappointed with her "soy sauce chicken" and rice dish. The chicken tasted nothing like soy sauce chicken and was dry and flavorless. Probably the very worst restaurant food I've ever had in nyc

Makayla T.

Yelp
The food was decent for restaurant week and happy hour drinks were good. However, I was quite confused when I was charged an additional $$ tip was charged to my card that I absolutely did not authorize. I will be disputing with my financial institution and taking proper action. I was so excited to try this restaurant, and I'm quite disappointed with the service and how I was treated.

Ayda N.

Yelp
The apps are the shiny stars of this place! The wontons and egg roll were really yummy. The entrees lacked a little bit of flavor and the ropa vieja noodles were a bit oily.

Audrey W.

Yelp
Memorable meal: lovely warm service, ample portions with well-balanced flavors, convenient location.

Ione L.

Yelp
I love this place. I have been several times and I always receive EXCELLENT service. The bartender, Roberto, is very personable and a hospitality hero. He really treats the customers right. The food is very tasty as I have been for happy hour and brunch. Brunch is one of the best deals in town. $9.99 for 90 minutes. The sangria is my favorite. Very tasty but packs a punch. You definitely will have a great time at this establishment.

Michelle O.

Yelp
For got to take pictures for all the food but the had the ropa vieja noodles and the fried rice and the garlic bok choy. The mojitos were nice and strong just wish the glass was bigger since they put so much ice.

Dominick D.

Yelp
This is s welcome addition to Village eateries. At one time the cityscape was dotted with Chinese - Cuban restaurants, but they deemed to all but disappear after the 90s (I miss Bayamon). This is an excellent reminder of bygone excellence.

Maya K.

Yelp
Really good happy hour, good drinks and food. Bartender Mario is skilled in his craft. The beef plantain crisps were everything.

Lu L.

Yelp
Best ceviche I've ever had!! The cauliflower was so well seasoned! Also they play really good spanish pop lol

Andrea B.

Yelp
Such a great place. Really great and interesting food w interesting history friendly staff and great service. It's our new favorite restaurant!

Admin A.

Yelp
Andres was absolutely amazing!! He was attentive and his energy represented how amazing the food was!! I recommend this place for anyone who's looking for good food and vibes. They are also accommodating when it comes to large parties for brunch!
