The 20 Best Food Trucks In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"If you’re bad with directions, just follow the savory smell of grilled meats wafting from the charcoal grills at Camino Alamo BBQ, a small food-trailer operation in Northwest Austin that specializes in Uyghur-style Xinjiang kabobs. There are three options for grilled skewers—lamb, beef, and chicken wings—that all get marinated in a mixture of cumin, salt, pepper, and Sichuan peppercorn before cooking over a tiny charcoal grill attached to the front of the trailer. It feels a little like a scrappy pop-up—and at one point it was—but it’s also a testament to how great the simple combination of fire and meat can really be.." - nicolai mccrary, matthew jacobs

Camino Alamo BBQ - Review - Campus - Austin - The Infatuation

"If you’re bad with directions, just follow the savory smell of grilled meats wafting from the charcoal grills at Camino Alamo BBQ, a small food trailer operation on The Drag near UT that specializes in Uyghur-style Xinjiang kabobs. There are three options for grilled skewers—lamb, beef, and chicken wings—that all get marinated in a mixture of cumin, salt, pepper, and Sichuan peppercorn before getting cooked over a tiny charcoal grill attached to the front of the trailer. Food arrives on metal skewers over metal trays, but you can fancy up the whole experience with a side of lamb pilaf or some grilled pineapple. It’s a one-man operation so just be warned that food can take a little while if there’s a line. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

You can’t beat the flavor and texture of a recently charcoal grilled skewer. The sear and smokiness is great. Service was great, the chef and owner was super polite. It’s set up behind a restaurant with tents and heater for the winter. Don’t park in front of the restaurant when is open. There are plenty of parking within an easy walk if you know what to look and follow the owner’s instructions.

Very decent Chinese barbecue. Great vibe and nice outdoor seating. Delicious food. Recommend lamb, chicken kidney and mushroom. Heard the lamb fried rice is good too but it’s sold out so we didn’t get to try that and will try next time.

This place is amazing! It really gives the street food vibe like in China but much cleaner. The service is amazing! Everyone greeted us with big smile. We feel really welcome here. Even though the food takes a while to be served, we still enjoy the music while waiting.

This hidden gem serves up delicious, authentic China Xinjiang style grilled meat skewers. Outdoor seating only. Very limited parking. BYOB. Reasonable price. Great place to hangout with friends and family.

Camilo Alamo BBQ was amazing! The meat skewers were super juicy and full of that smoky BBQ flavor—cooked just right. The grilled pineapple was such a nice touch, sweet and refreshing next to the savory meats. The mussels were fresh and tasty, and the shrimp? Perfectly spiced and super flavorful. Even though it was served on paper plates, everything looked great and you could tell they put care into it. Tons of variety and everything hit the spot. Definitely recommend if you're into seriously good BBQ!

Absolutely love this place! Their grilled lamb skewers, cabbage, and chicken wings are incredibly authentic — bold spices, perfect texture, and just like what I’d get back home in China. It’s hands down the most genuine Chinese BBQ I’ve had in the U.S. The flavors are spot-on, especially the lamb, which is juicy, smoky, and full of cumin and chili aroma. The outdoor patio is another highlight. It’s spacious, chill, and perfect for hanging out with friends. Great food, great vibe, can’t recommend it enough!

We had lamb and beef skewers. The taste was excellent. We tried medium spicy it was ok. Next time we will go up one level. The outdoor environment was nice. There’s limited parking on site or you can park at Austin Billiard. Will definitely recommend this place!

Little hidden place, found it by accident, one of few places open on Thanksgiving. Great atmosphere, food was delicious, esp the lamb skewers. Excellent service!
