The 18 Best Restaurants & Bars In Joshua Tree - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The concept of a nighttime-only bakery is novel for most of us, but it’s old hat for Twentynine Palms residents. Every Thursday through Saturday from 6-9pm, locals line up outside Campbell Hill, a husband-and-wife-run bakery that sells homey staples like tomato soup, cheddar bagels, and pineapple coffee cake. But the main event is the pizza. These thick, decadent pies fall somewhere between pan and Detroit-style and feature toppings like fried zucchini and ricotta, or buffalo cauliflower with spinach and charred jalapeños. Just don’t get too attached. The toppings change daily and are announced on Instagram before they open." - brant cox

This local bakery was worth the wait. I had been wanting to go here for a while and finally made it tonight. Got there right as they opened and waited in line about 25 minutes (it was worth it). Finally got to go in and got a little bit of everything. It was all delicious but the thing that blew me away was the almond croissant. I have eaten some amazing pastries in Germany, Portugal, Argentina, etc. This was hands down the best croissant I’ve ever had!

Google
Honestly some of the best baked goods I've ever tasted. Apple almond tart 10/10 - tender flaky pastry, tart apple filling, crunchy topping. Short bread cookie 10/10 - short bread with a crisp snap when broken. Sweet and salty topping Matcha chocolate chip cookie 10/10 - chewy consistency, you can taste the butter. Cinnamon bun 10/10 - pillowy bun with soft creamy icing. I've tried bakeries throughout North America and Europe, this place trades punched with the VERY best of them. Nothing is overly sweet, everything is thoughtfully prepared and, I believe, will satisfy even the most discerning palates. Excellent reason to visit 29 palms. Hours are odd. There are sometimes lines (others have taken off a star for this...why? lol ). Worth it.

Google
Campbell Hill Bakery is such a gem in 29 Palms. Their pizza is seriously some of the best I’ve had, thick, flavorful, and always with fun, creative toppings. The sourdough loaves are perfect too, crusty outside, soft inside, just right for sandwiches or dipping in olive oil. And don’t skip the baked treats—the matcha cookies, muffins, and scones are amazing (the chocolate cake loaf might honestly be the best I’ve had ). There’s usually a line, but it’s worth the wait every time. Friendly staff, great food, and a cozy desert vibe.

Google
So glad that my host at Bodhi House recommended Campbell Hill- it was one of the highlights of our trip! They have incredible food (we got pizza, chocolate cake, pastries, and jasmine tea) and everything was so fresh and perfectly sweetened. We waited about 20 minutes in line (worth it). They're only open during certain days of the week in the evenings so you need to check Instagram (@campbellhillbakery) for their hours. This spot is a MUST if you're visiting JTNP/29 Palms!!!

Google
If you ever wonder why there's such a huge line outside and if it's really that good, the answer is YES IT IS! Lots of delicious baked goods to choose from but the banana bread is amazing! Even though I wish they were open more, it's also kinda fun to have it be an end of the week treat.

Google
I ordered a little of everything, and it all tasted wonderful, even a few days later. The earl grey, matcha, and chocolate chip cookies were great, and also the coffee and eggplant pizza. My favorite was the apricot scone, I wish I had bought more than one! The next time I'm in the area I'm definitely making the trip.

Google
Such a great spot!! So much attention to detail which really makes this bakery shine. Everything we had was exceptional and it’s all really quick, grab and go. Things sell out so get there early if you have your eye on something (breakfast sandwiches were sold out) the vegetarian pesto sandwich was insanely good though and delicious! The Ethiopian coffee was incredible. I should have asked for ice, but I know for next time. The blueberry brioche was so good too. Would buy again.

Google
Cute hidden gem - we got a loaf of sourdough for breakfast, made for delicious sandwiches and then toast when it got a little stale by day 3. The cookies are phenomenal, and I really enjoyed the juices. Limited hours but worth working into your schedule if you can swing it!

Yelp
Best kept secret in 29 Palms! If you know, you know... I could eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner here every day! Plus the most amazing non-alcoholic drinks I've ever had! Boba tea and fruit juice fizzys are the BEST! Best brownies I've ever had. Really! Worth the wait in line. Get there early!
google avatar

Yelp
Every time we go there, the line is so long, we leave. I've never been inside. But having eaten some of their scones at a friend's house, they were delicious. I'll I've the scones 4 stars, but can't rate anything else.
google avatar

Yelp
Every single item is amazing ! Bread is soft and sweet Matcha cookie is the best cookie I've ever had . And my husband couldn't get enough of the pizza!

Yelp
Campbell Hill is back! They have limited hours in the evenings going into the weekend. Not the full service bakery as before but serving up delectable goodies along with dinner items. Check their Facebook and instagram page for hours, menu offerings and updates.

Yelp
Delicious way to start your day, a hot coffee, a warm pastry, a savory sandwich to go, and great service. Easily accessible from the main road, great job guys!!

Yelp
Dope service. Dope foods. Dope ambiance. Dope coffee. Just dope. Need more characters.

Yelp
The line was about 5 deep and filled with locals. This convinced me to stop by. They allow one party in at a time to ensure they provide the best guest experience. I really appreciated that. Ordered an egg salad sandwich, ranch pizza, piece of tomato garlic focaccia, horchata, farmer's tea, a chocolate chip cookie, and a peanut butter fudge swirl brownie to eat while visiting Joshua Tree National Park. The ranch pizza was our favorite, followed by the egg salad sandwich. The horchata was good not great for the value. The baked goods were yum! Would definitely go back next time in the Joshua Tree NP area.

Yelp
The best. Everything is great and Travis is very attractive. Every time I see they're open I know God is smiling upon me.

Yelp
Everything we picked up was absolutely amazing! chocolate chip cookie, peanut butter cookie, banana, bread, loaf of sourdough bread, spinach, artichoke dip, barbecue sauce, broccoli cheddar cheese, soup, turmeric, ginger juice of some sort and some other bakery dessert. I would highly recommend this spot and anytime we're back will be stopping there ! No photos available because we devoured it all .

Yelp
Cute little bakery in Twentynine Palms. I came here around 2:30 to pick up some sweet midday treats and it wasn't super busy. They only allow one party at a time to enter the shop, but the service is really quick. There are so many pastry options but everything is super affordable and delicious. Living in LA, I was actually shocked to see the pastries were practically all under $5. So we ordered a bunch! My favorites included the brownie, coffee cake, and cinnamon roll. Their egg salad sandwich is also delish! I believe the owner Travis was helping us and he was super friendly and helpful. I'd recommend making a stop here for some great pastries.

Mary G.

Yelp
Excellent baked goods , always very delighted with the family such a wonderful addition to 29 Palms CA , there has never been a boutique food shop like this here . Hope they stay!!
google avatar

Yelp
a great take out place to get sandwiches and pastries. It's already past 12 nn so we got the egg salad it's very good.Due to the store size they allow one person or party to enter the store. It's worth the queue to get a great local food.

Yelp
I'm bumping up my rating from my last review. Not only was it opened during the week but staying away from the Croque Monsieur also helped. The previous time there was a line but on a weekday I walked right in. Since it was early afternoon I was afraid that there wouldn't be much choice left but being on a weekday the demand wasn't that great so there was a bunch of options left. I wasn't going to the Croque Monsieur again but they seemed to have expanded their options besides the baked goods. They managed to cram another cooler in with premade salad, soups and dips options. Unfortunately, we were going to go hike so it was all finger foods. They had pizzas available so I got there on top of their pastries. Between the three of us we got so much he threw in a blueberry tart gratis. Since I knew what to avoid the items I didn't like this go round all the baked goods were terrific and with no one behind us it was nice to be able to browse and ask questions.

Yelp
The vegetarian food is amazing. Each night open, there's a chance for something different. The service is always impeccable. Friendly and informative. The ambiance is small town intimate casual with 1 party at a time. You get a genuine experience every time. Any time I have people in town, I take them. My favorite drink is the strong coffee , and the pizzas are a must. The line might seem like a lot, but it's worth it. You may get lucky at get there at the right time with few in line Happy snacking!

Yelp
Outstanding in every way! What impresses me most is the huge variety of things they bake: breads, cookies, banana bread (which is the best I've ever had), blueberry cream cheese coffee cake, and occasionally pizza's that are the best in the Hi Desert. What a pleasant surprise that 29 Palms has a bakery worthy of Paris.

Yelp
This place is so good! The menu rotates so, it seems like there's always something new. We really like the white potato pizza, and frito hand pies. The sourdough loaf is delicious on its own or made into a pb&j. Of course, we can't forget the sweets the brioche roll, brownie, and ginger cookies always have our hearts. But the creative flavors like earl grey scones are also fun to try.

Yelp
During our 4-day stay in Joshua Tree, I was so bummed to find out this place towards the second half of our stay here. All their pastries and sandwiches are absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was amazing, and I am still dreaming about their brioche bread and mushroom cheese sandwich. *wipes drool* A lot of their good pastries sell out fairly quickly, so I highly recommend going there early in the morning. We went there at maybe 8:30 the first day, and they were out of croissants and had less than a handful of their cinnamon sugar brioche. So we went a little before 7:30 on our last day, and luckily were able to get their croissant. I would hands down recommend you trying out this place!
google avatar

Alice H.

Yelp
Great bakery! There's always a line out the door because it's a small bakery. I think it would be helpful to post their menu by the window or online so we can browse the menu and make our selections while we wait. Staff were patient, and friendly. Would return if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Wow! Do not miss trying this place out. We picked up bread, cupcakes, pastries and cookies and they're fantastic! We aren't locals but come here often and I'm not sure how I missed this for so long. They only let one party in at a time so be patient and bring a jacket for these colder months while you wait!
google avatar

Yelp
This place was absolutely delicious. I caught the very last sandwich left after spending the morning working away, and managed to get here before they closed. Incredibly, the sandwich they had left was exactly what I was craving - some cheese encrusted sourdough with spinach and mushroom. Delicious. Also picked up a side kale salad and green smoothie from their refrigerated section. Tasty and refreshing. Gave me enough energy for an excursion to Joshua Tree. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Worth the wait! I was a little hesitant when I saw the line out the door, but then I learned it's bc they only allow one party inside at a time. All the items I got were superb!! The banana bread was so fluffy and moist, and it was a nice thick slice too. The vegan Italian sandwich impressed me; between the homemade ciabatta bread and the perfect ratio of ingredients it was a tasty substantial sandwich that this non-vegan really enjoyed. Maybe my favorite of all the items though, was the simple English muffin. WOWZA. SO DELICIOUS. One became an egg sandwich, and the other got butter and jam. Lightly toasting them resulted in a delicately crispy outside and a soft warm perfect inside. As delicious as the banana bread and sandwich were, it's the English Muffin I'm going to be fantasizing about. I don't know how I've overlooked this place on my visits to the area before, but you can bet I won't miss it from here on out.

Yelp
Great little bakery in the Joshua Tree area offering a variety of pastries and different breakfast options on rotation. The pastries were all delicious! We had a little bit of everything, including the cookies, muffins, breakfast sandwiches (which were great), and the cinnamon roll. The cinnamon roll texture was one of my favorites, and not overly sweet. The muffins were also moist, and the chocolate chip cookie was also pretty good as well. The breakfast sandwiches were good, but were a bit "saucy" inside and harder to share. The owner(?) was friendly, and because we bought so much and seemed so into the pastries, he even gifted us with another pastry! Would definitely recommend this place and would come back here for breakfast.

Yelp
Everything was so good and SO reasonably priced. I can't resist trying nearly every bakery item, so I got the following: - 2 types of pizza (more like a focaccia) - strawberry peach pie with a crumble topping (amazing when reheated in the oven!!) - chocolate chip cookie - red velvet muffin - pumpkin bread muffin - strawberry brioche - chocolate croissant Everything was fantastic!

Brianna C.

Yelp
We waited in line for about a half hour to get in. They were out of the breakfast sandwiches and cookies by the time we got there (an hour after opening). Everything we got was amazing. Giant cookies, dense pumpkin bread and a light cheese pastry. Well worth it.

Yelp
Stopped by on our way home after stargazing in Joshua tree.Everything we tried was really good. This will be a must visit everytime we visit Joshua tree.

Yelp
Tried Campbell Hill Bakery for the first time this morning, on Christmas Eve. We arrived just as they opened & there was already quite a line, seemed like a good sign! The line was slow-moving. Others who had been there before mentioned the line is not usually so slow, but given the holiday & special offerings we were prepared to wait. When we finally got inside (only one party allowed in at a time, which feels like a frustrating detail as you wait, but you appreciate as soon as it's your turn to go in) we were warmly greeted & attended to. My partner and I each got a (premade) sandwich. The egg salad was delicious- no unnecessary bells & whistles, just a very good egg salad on a very good sourdough. We also splurged on coffee & a bag of pastries since we'd waited in the long line. The sugared brioche roll is like the grown-up version of your favorite sugared donut (seriously, it is so good- we got two & I'm glad we did because neither of us would have wanted to share). Everything was worth the wait & the prices felt very reasonable (after tip we paid around $42 for 2 sandwiches, 2 specialty coffees, & 5 pastries). Looking forward to going back again after the holidays!

Yelp
Yes, you should definitely come here before your hike in Joshua tree. There was a line but mostly because it is a very tiny shop. Well and also because it is an amazing little bakery. They do not rush you when it is your turn. As a courtesy we looked at the menu ahead of time and knew exactly what we were getting. We got the turkey avocado sandwich, hummus sandwich, roast beef and Cuban sandwiches. For our treats we got the a chocolate chip cookie, chocolate with milk chocolate cookie, a strawberry scone and he threw in a oatmeal with cranberry cookie. The sandwiches were premade and ready to go upon ordering. We thought they tasted so fresh and delicious, they are very generous with the portions and I think the price was fair. The cookies were super yummy but the star of the show was the oatmeal cookie he gave us for free. So much surprise and perfect flavor and texture. Would absolutely have to stop in again if ever in the area. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was fantastic, I highly recommend the Swiss roll sandwich, the sugar brioche, the banana bread and their tea lattes. It was so good however, there is a line so try to get there early.
google avatar

Hanna S.

Yelp
We figured anything with a line that long would be worth waiting for. The bread pudding was delicious, albeit a little dense. The croque-Monsieur style cheese sandwich, though, was the real winner. Luscious bechamel inside. We brought it on a picnic, and it was great at room temperature, but I can only imagine how great it would be reheated in the oven at home.
google avatar

Yelp
Clean establishment with very delicious food. I will continue to go there due to the best customer service.

Yelp
We were in town visiting my son stationed at 29 Palms. He and his wife raved about this bakery! My son and daughter in law went early and brought back so many goodies! Egg avocado and cheese breakfast sandwiches, a variety of cookies, brioche bun, chocolate cake loaf and a really yummy slice of banana cream pie. The pie was absolutely delicious. I wish I had pics! It was a thick slice with a graham cracker crust, flavorful banana pudding with fresh banana, whipped cream and more banana. The owner hooked them up with a free strawberry scone! Score! Here we are again Saturday morning to bring back and eat more goodies for our trek back to the Bay Area. We didn't read the sign and we're told to wait outside. Oops! Sorry for our anxiousness! We ordered 2 egg tomato and cheese breakfast sandwiches, one slice each of the 2 pizza varieties, choc banana muffin, red velvet muffin, almond pretzel, brioche cream bun and an out of this world chocolate caramel scone. We cut it into pieces and had the whole fam try. Hands down our absolute favorite!!! Our only regret is not buying more :( We will be back to visit this winter and this will be our first stop!!! Regretfully I forgot to take pics. I've been living in the moment lately.
google avatar

Taylar J.

Yelp
Definitely worth the carbs! Everything we had from the bakery was fresh and delicious! I believe it is a vegetarian bakery, because no sandwiches had meat. The egg salad sandwich was great!. So were the different flavored croissants and coffee cake! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Nancy N.

Yelp
Fantastic baked goods. A great spot before you head into the park. Get there early if you can, otherwise you'll miss out on the sandwiches and popular goodies. I still dream of the banana bread giving me sustenance during our hikes.

Yelp
STEPH JUDGEMENT: Really small but awesome bakery that's worth a stop. We were staying at a friend's Air Bnb in 29 Palms and one of their recommendations was this place. I decided to check them out early (a little before 7am) on a Saturday morning, and there was no line. It's a very small space, so don't expect any kind of indoor seating and whatnot--strictly grab and go. That said, their display case was filled with all kinds of amazing-looking items, and I finally settled on a a Red Velvet Cream Cheese Muffin (YES) and a cinnamon roll (VERY GOOD), and a regular drip coffee with half and half (GOOD). The guy helping me out could have been a little bit friendlier--no folksy small town charm there, but the proof, as they say, is in the baked goods and they are very good indeed. I was all excited to go back the next day, only to find out that they are closed on Sundays (and Mondays). Totally my fault for not checking their hours and just assuming they'd be open. If I'd noticed earlier I would've gotten more stuff. Oh well, next time--because there will definitely be a next time!

Yelp
I'm a military spouse, whose husband is stationed out here in 29. As far as good food in this area, there are only A hand full of options. I've lived around big cities the majority of my life, so a lack of good food has never been a problem until recently. I've driven by the bakery a few times, noticing the long lines waiting outside the door. I finally decided to stop by and give it a try. They only let one customer or party in at a time, which is actually nice once you get inside. Due to that, the wait can be a bit long, but is well worth it for one item alone. The mushroom and swiss sandwich. OMG, it's probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I'll be dreaming about this sandwich when our time to move comes. Make sure you get it heated! I got a few other things, which were all good, but that sandwich is what led me to leave this review. I'll definitely be back.
google avatar

Carlos V.

Yelp
My wife and I were heading to Joshua Tree and saw this bakery along the way with a line outside the door. I'm glad we decided to stop by! They had so many options it was hard to choose just one item. We tried the banana bread, red velvet muffin, and cookies and they all tasted great! They also have wonderful customer service, very friendly husband and wife team! We definitely will come back the next time we're visiting Joshua Tree!

Yelp
Made the trip from Yucca to 29 Palms to try some of these baked goods. There was a line out the door that moved very slowly. Finally when we made our way up, I was disappointed to see they do not have espresso or espresso drinks like lattes. Just drip coffee or iced coffee. The coffee is good, but had I known I probably would've gotten coffee elsewhere. The baked goods are very good, the sugared brioche in particular is delicious. Campbell Hill loses a star for inefficient service. It takes a VERY long time to literally just pick and get pastries. I thought there was more of a process going on in there (like making lattes for example, at least that would explain the wait), but it's just picking out food. Some food is warmed up, but still...it's a snails pace. We waited for nearly an hour. There's been double the amount of people in line in front of us at Joshua Tree Coffee Company and the line moves significantly quicker. Not to mention there was only one person behind the counter on a Saturday? We also decided to try the bagels, they were pretty decent. Tasted kind of pretzel-y but definitely not the worst bagel I've had in California. Even though the baked goods were tasty. I'm not sure if I would make the trip back. It's just much too long a wait.

Yelp
Great customer service and awesome food! Favorites: Ice coffee, strawberry poppyseed scone, cinnamon sugar brioche, strawberry buttermilk biscuits, blueberry coffee cake, pepperoni pizza! 100% recommend anyone to try them you won't be disappointed :

Yelp
So glad this bakery came up in my google search for coffee. We initially were only looking for a good coffee shop. But upon entering, we realized we discovered a hidden gem. We ended up leaving with a bag filled with baked goods, fresh pizzas slices, homemade seltzers, and pre-packaged homemade sauces. The service was excellent - he answered all our questions about their pre-packages items, threw in an extra baked good, etc. The only disappointment was when we went back the next day (Sunday) to buy more before we headed home it was closed.
google avatar

Alexia H.

Yelp
AMAZING ! I cannot say enough good things about this place. GREAT food, excellent price and friendly service. I will continue to come here every time I am in the area. They have different specials everyday. Today we ordered the Philly cheese steak, avocado turkey, ham with melted Swiss, coffee cake, peanut butter cookies, iced house coffee with honey, peanut butter banana iced coffee and hibiscus tea ! The coffee and tea were excellent WAY better than the experience I had at Joshua Tree Coffee Company. The line will look long but goes pretty quickly and only one guest/party at a time inside while ordering. You can't beat the price here for the quality of food you receive! Completely recommend this place as a must stop !

Yelp
This is more than just a bakery, it's an experience. This review is extremely late as I was there in October, however I still remember this business and the interaction. I've been to bakeries in Romania, Japan, and Korea; this bakery has everything good about those all at once. And the owner/cashier/baker/chef with his wife work hard to provide such amazing foods from scratch, with thought and distinction. I have never heard of a butternut squash with spinach and mushroom Swiss sandwich with garlic aioli but they did and it was amazing. This business is a customer orient model, like it is in Japan; it's less about profit and more about providing a good or service to make people lives better. The owner is also extremely nice and the store is organized with everything right in front of you, so you SEE the menu not read it and even smell it.
google avatar

Alexis Q.

Yelp
The food and service was excellent. This was my first time trying their sandwiches I got the club and it was honestly the best sandwich I've ever had. Campbell hill bakery is a must if you ever visit Twentynine Palms.
google avatar

Jose R.

Yelp
Really good things here! Best bakery around the area, glad I found them! They are reasonably priced as well.

Heather M.

Yelp
They have more than just bread. They have scrumptious salads, sandwiches, and other wonderful treats. Their service is incredible, though they sometimes form a line. They're worth the wait.

Nancy S.

Yelp
I'm devastated they have shut the doors. I loved anything and everything the offered. My friends and I drive out to Vegas from La Quinta and this was our reason to drive. I guess I'll fly now because there's nothing that can replace the love that Campbell Hill provided. We will miss you!
google avatar

Sharon M.

Yelp
This place was well worth a 30-min wait to grab breakfast and lunch before heading into JTNP. My Scone and (very high quality tasting) coffee were perfection, sandwich was everything. The person playing music outside the door made it more than tolerable to wait. We stumbled on this place but next time I'll make it a destination.
google avatar

Taylor S.

Yelp
The only bad thing I can say about this place is I wish it were bigger so there wouldn't be a line. However, there wouldn't be a line if it wasn't SOOO FREAKING GOOD! I am a bit of a food snob sometimes and Twentynine palms/Joshua tree in general didn't do much for me in regards to food except Campbell Hill. This place was soo good I went back the next day and on my road trip back to AZ from LA I seriously considered driving quite a distance out of my way to go AGAIN! The staff was beyond friendly and helpful. The girl working the register offered suggestions on not only the food and drinks but also things to do around the area. The food and drinks were amazing. Fresh juices, chai seeds in the coffee (unheard of but amazing) and the breakfast sandwich I will be dreaming about forever. It was soo simple yet fresh and delicious. If you are anywhere near the area this is a MUST STOP.

Yelp
This bakery is simply amazing. We came here two mornings in a row. The first morning we got the cinnamon sugar brioche, jalapeño bagel, baguette and jalapeño, artichoke and spinach dip. Everything was super delicious and priced great. The dip was the best dip that I have ever had. The brioche was incredible as well. The second day, we got a sausage and egg breakfast sandwich and strawberry brioche. Both were amazing, too. One of the best breakfast sandwiches that I have had. Everything is simple but incredible. - I wish I could kidnap these bakers and make them open a bakery in my hometown.
