A beloved Mexican grocery with a busy taquería counter. The Idaho Statesman praises its carne asada tacos and take-home meats; locals stock up on salsas and pan dulce after lunch.

Google
Since I’m not from the area, I had to search for a Mexican grocery store, and Campos Market was the closest to where I was staying. They had most of the items I needed, and I liked that they have a carnicería along with a small restaurant area in the back where you can sit and eat. The customer service was good, and overall, it was a convenient spot.

Ron Ingersoll

Google
Check out their pork rinds. Best we've found anywhere. Great prices on many items.

MP Bell

Google
I've been coming here since I was a kid, and Campos is my favorite Mexican market in the area. Their lunch counter has some of the best Mexican food around, their Carnitas are the bomb, and they have a great drink selection.

Jill Devereaux (Buffy)

Google
I went in to get taco salad bowls and they didn’t have them, but it smelled really good in the store and the cashier was extremely helpful

Erick Flores

Google
Great place to get some good mexican deli items. They also have a good assortment of hispanic items and brands that are only found in shops like this. Ordered food here too but the ladies at the counter are kinda rude so just don’t mind them too much when you order. Other than that it’s a good place overall

Google
When you look at the facade it gives off a vibe of strange third world decor. Signs posted outdoors of rooms to rent and businesses wanting your attention. Once inside, you have a three for one experience. Towards the back is a mini food court with hot food and beverages. To the right of that a full array of meats, some marinated, some not. A small produce section to the left rear and the first half is dedicated to pantry items. This is the interesting section. You have products from a variety of Latin countries including, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Columbia, and a frozen section that includes casava, pupusas, tostones, and discs for making empanadas. The aisles are small and some items lack prices. Some popular items like PAN are better prices in some other local stores like Fred Myers. Some of the local big markets are starting to see the culinary needs of the mostly migrant community and are dipping their toes in the once niche stores like Campos Market.

Google
Loving this Taco Tuesday experience. Tacos de lengua, Al pastor, carnitas YUM!!! These are small street tacos. Reasonably priced, flavorful, and aromatic. The service was friendly and food served hot and timely.

John Bruce

Google
Nice market and amazing little restaurant in the back. We loved the authentic tacos, tongue, pork stomach and pork skin. We ended up ordering more as these are hard to find tacos.

Timothy T.

Yelp
Typical Hispanic grocery store. Bought some tamales to take home. Very tasty. Will be back for more.

Yelp
Best Mexican market in the valley by far. The carne asada is money. Fresh veggies and authentic Mexican dishes. The restaurant in the back should be a stand alone place. I'd be there everyday

Yelp
We've been coming to Campos Market for many years. It's go to for hard to find produce like cactus and papayas. Besides the fruit, there are all sorts of interesting finds, so if you are going for the first time, trust me, take some time to check out all the aisles. Starting from left to right, the first aisle has cookware. Ever seen clay dishes, pots, and cups perhaps from Spanish Novelas on Telemundo or Univision, yeah, those are in stock. Looking for a wood crafted tortilla maker, they have it. Maybe you need a pot. ( Not that kinda pot ) but a pot to cook chicharrones, yeah they have that too plus the paddle to boot. There's all sorts of spices and chilies and hot sauces. I would recommend the El Yucateco Mayan Recipe. Yum! The next aisle over is baking goods, canned goods and of course tortillas. I do miss the Casa Valdez tortillas as they were really good. The next aisle over is Mexican candy and all sorts of Mexican drinks. Sweet! The last aisle is homeware and personal care. There are three freezers where you can find fish, octopus, and sometimes goat. Then there's all the fruits and veggies. The meat counter has everything ranging from Skirt steak to Sausage to chicken and more. There's a refrigerator full of beer and other drinks then there's....... An eatery. You can order food and eat inside or take it to go. On the weekends, it super busy so either get there early to get a table or get there late and take it to go. It's as legit as you are going to find in the Treasure Valley and my only gripe is that it is not really stocked with Mexican sweet breads as it should. Get your Campos Market on.

Yelp
Went in looking for Chamoy, I have been wanting to try it on other things other than the Popsicles that I had that it was already in it. Not only did I find my chamoy but I also found abuelita hot cocoa mix as well as fresh chicharrones. Friendly people nice little market

Kerri M.

Yelp
Wow, what an incredible place this is! I not only bought several hot sauces off the shelf but also homemade fresh salsas that were delicious. I took home their raw pork el pastor & made great tacos. They have bulk fresh queso fresco that was amazingly. Impressive variety of Mexican beers are available, fresh produce too. The gentleman at the meat counter was very outgoing, friendly, & professional, the cashier was grumpy.
google avatar

David D.

Yelp
Absolutely the BEST menudo I have ever had. I live in LA and thought I experienced it all. I couldn't believe it! The tortillas are exceptional as well. I am here for a month and will definitely will be going back. Please open a restaurant in LA! You would make a killing.

Yelp
This had been on my list for a while and I'm happy I stopped for lunch. The asada and the chicken tacos were delicious as was the side of refried beans. Note no chips come with so you should buy them in the market if you want them to accompany your meal. Sauces on the table are straightforward red and green. The chicken tasted fresh l, nicely seasoned and was well made. There are about eight tables inside. Friendly staff. Prices are good and friendly too!

Yelp
Oh my! I am so thankful for my coworkers telling me about this wonderful place! I already can't wait to visit again. I arrived today for lunch. I wanted an asada burrito.. and let me tell you, I got my asada burrito. It reminded me so much of my favorite little market back home, it just made my heart sing. I am not a fan of beans, so my burrito consisted of meat, rice and a cilantro onion mix. They served the burrito with verde and rojo salsa on the side. I liked them both.. so I alternated the salsas with my bites. One thing I personally added to my burrito was fresh lime juice and pickled jalapeños. It's what I did back home and I have zero regrets. I are the entire thing as well (again, no regrets). The market is great. There are a variety of drinks as well as cervesa. During my visit, I purchased some pastor meat as well as asada to take home and cook. Their butcher has some amazing looking meats. I've also heard wonderful things about their marinated pollo. Again, my heart is so happy that I have found this establishment. I have certainly fulfilled my crave for a good burrito.

Jay J.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic every time. Food is unbeatable and the price is average with the rest of the garbage around town. Can't stop coming here

Yelp
This place has the best tacos I've ever had in my life. Staff is so friendly and the quality here is just amazing.

Yelp
Compose offers a truly Mexican experience. Their product offering is authentic and expansive. The carneceria is exceptional and a great way to get the Mexican flavor profile you're looking for. The butchers are experienced and helpful. The taco shop in the back is amazing. I am wholeheartedly touched to see lengua and al pastor on the menu. Their hot sauces are excellent and their service is succinct and efficient. Please don't come here if you're going to tell someone to speak 'Murican, you're not wanted or needed. One of the best signs of authentic taqueria style Mexican food is that they speak Spanish. I'll put that to the Pepsi challenge any day of the week. Do know, if you order beer to drink with your meal in the shop, you pay extra. Don't bitch about it. Don't scream like an entitled moron, just know. It's how they keep that taqueria open and dems da rules fool. Food: 7/10 Beverage: 3/10 they charge more to drink it on premise. I get it but damn man. Atmosphere: 4/10 (I like it but it's a shop not a restaurant. Takes me back to Mexico). Concept: 6/10. It's a Mercado, not a restaurant but I love it.
google avatar

Hannah T.

Yelp
Okay, I love a good taco and campos nailed it. The atmosphere could use some work but I loved the food. Tasted authentic and the green sauce is so hot but it's to die for. I even hung around and bought stuff. Perfect if you're looking for a quick Mexican meal (cheap by the way, my tacos were $4 total). Or if you want to shop the genuine Mexican groceries and get a tub of that amazing green sauce. Marked down one star because not all of the workers wore masks and could be a bit more clean.
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
I came in here for lard and jalapeños and I left with lard and jalapeños. Great little market that was hopping with energy and people. I will be back to try the tacos in the back and to get special ingredients but that is it. I was a little taken back by their produce section where rotting fruit and veggies stood. I struggled to find any fresh jalapeños. No matter I found what I came for and that is what matters.

Yelp
An aging little market that is AOK for what it is, but doesn't carry what I need to buy and inevitably I compare it to the Mexican markets I shopped at in other venues where I've lived, worked and visited. With Plaza Latina in Eugene likely my favorite of them all as the 'gold standard', the best I can do is a two star rating for my grocery gathering experience here. Which is simply my context perspective and no knock on the market. Based on other reviews for the tacos and tortas, had my husband and I been there for the prepared food and not grocery products we may have had a different experience. Campos clearly serves a local neighborhood community of folks, although if the day of my visit was a usual one for clientele, more than half spoke neither English nor Spanish as their first language which was surprising. My ongoing surprise being a relative newcomer to the Treasure Valley is for what an important role is played by people with Mexican heritage in many of the jobs in the area and the size of the population that speaks Spanish as their first language, there don't seem to be the same kind of Mexican markets and Mexican food venues here as in other places I've called home. I was in search of fresh tortillas. None available here and I found similar brands in plastic bags as I might find at any standard grocery. I also thought I would pick up cookies to feed the nice guys who were painting my house (the Benjamin Moore paint store is right across the street and Campos caught my eye while I waited to have paint mixed) since one of the signs painted in the window said panaderia. So I was also disappointed to find the bread and bakery products in a small case to the left of the entry door seemed not baked there and no sweets or cookies in the mix. There is a meat market in the back of the store and the product looked fresh. A few tables in that same location and food is available to purchase to eat there, although we didn't do that. Our hunt and gather included produce with fresh chiles among them and some other items to make Mexican food dishes. With all respect to the foods who own this and work hard at it, most of the limited produce looked well past prime, boxes were stacked in the aisles and the product on shelves were the same brands one can buy in most standard grocery stores these days. Hence the two star rating. Different strokes for different folks. My search for fresh tortillas and a good Mexican market for me continues.

Yelp
If you haven't stepped inside the Campos Market you probably don't realize there's a small restaurant in the back of the building, where the Crescent Bar operated for years. Great selection of tacos and other dishes. I had an order of flautas, four corn tortillas filled with chicken and deep fried. Served with lettuce, white cheese, avocado slices and topped with crema for $5. It was very good. Look for a large selection of Jarritos Mexican pop in the cold case along with American standards. The market also has a large selection of meats and sausage at reasonable prices.
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Very authentic and flavorful food. The restaurant is in the back of the market with a few little tables. As I was ducking under the piñatas to get to the restaurant I had a feeling that I was in the right place.

Yelp
I went in to buy a molcajete (a rather good sized three-legged mortar and pestle) and ended up eating some tacos and buying some other kitchen items and treats. As I hefted the molcajete onto the counter a young lady asked me if I was going to make salsa, and we ended up having a nice conversation about the possible things you could use it for. The employee manning the register was very helpful. I scoped out the meat department and was amazed at the offerings. Cuts of meat that I was not familiar with, organ meats, chicken breasts, all very neatly displayed in the tightly packed display case. The guy behind the counter didn't seem to mind my asking a few questions. All the employees were constantly busy with different tasks as I went back to the grill and ordered some tacos, two lengua and two cabeza. The kitchen looked to be very clean and organized. While these were being prepared I had a look at the produce section. Tomaillos, nopales, tuna (not a fish!), nothing looked past its prime. Then my tacos were ready. Comedy time... the booths were like desks out of an elementary school, I could barely squeeze myself in. The meat in the tacos was extremely tender and moist, and well seasoned. Wedges of lime and radish slices on the side. On the way out I bought some spices and chili coated dried fruits. Chamoy! The place has been there a long time, and it isn't fancy, but it is clean, organized, and a friendly place to shop for Latino specialties. Check it out!

Yelp
Went to the market to grab some carne asada, salsa, and pico de gallo for our dinner tomorrow and figured that I should eat lunch. I have never grabbed lunch here before so I was excited given the meat and fresh ingredients are located in the market. The restaurant is located in the very back of store just past the butcher. You can find about 5-6 tables to sit at after you order your food. The seating area is nothing special but don't let the appearance scare you off as the food will be worth it. I ordered a torta with al pastor. The sandwich is filled with lettuce, tomato, guacamole, mayo, peppers, carrots, and meat. All the ingredients are fresh from the market. The al pastor meat was very flavorful and cooked nicely. All the ingredients worked well. The bread was my least favorite as it seemed a bit dry. I will be eating here again for sure as the menu has many more items for me to enjoy. I would recommend Campos to anybody looking for authentic Mexican food made from fresh ingredients. Cheers Always!

Yelp
This place is legit. The people from California stubbornly insisting you can't get "authentic" Mexican food have either never been here, or should check their stubborn "California is better" point of view at the door. Order anything on the menu except the burrito, or chicken. Pastor, chorizo, carnitas, cheek (I forget what it is on the menu), menudo on Friday... it is all mind blowing how good it is. The butcher can hook you up with pastor and everything to cook at home too! It's not a pretty place, so some people I have taken here were surprised. Stepping through the door is like stepping into a store in a simple town across the boarder. No frills. No marketing. As everything is used - it looks like it.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Apparently this is the most authentic mexican food in Boise. Granted the choices are slim being boise. Dry carnitas very poorly made. Desperate Boise locals calling very poor quality food the best in city. Boise has burger joints and maybe some pizza places that are good. The rest are desperate attempts to create some sort of culture. Personally i find it insulting especially with the prices being so high. My take on Mexican food in boise after living in san diego my whole life. Del taco is the way to go. Hands down the best boise has to offer. The city is lacking authenticity in culture so much it will cling to the most awful and disappointing establishments. If you never have had legitimate real mexican food then i suppose you dont know whats up. 2 stars is 1 more then i would truly give but it was nice to speak Spanish with the workers before forcing down 2 carnitas tacos. Dont forget extra water or you may choke.

Yelp
Looking for a place for my son to have real tacos while at BSU and we found it. This place gets this Arizona Mexicans seal of approval.
google avatar

Everett H.

Yelp
Good food and good atmosphere. I have eaten here several times and love the carna asada.

Destiny L.

Yelp
Thank you to the Walmart Employee that recommended this store. Loved the products they offer and the employees were cool

Lucas R.

Yelp
so good. the lighter rojo salsa is fire! so is the verde. they've got it all from menudo to cabeza to any meat cut to take home and grill. pan Dulce always in stock. Sundays are hella busy so choose your timing wisely!
google avatar

Quenia G.

Yelp
Campos Market is my go to place for food and meat. The meat sold here taste better than other places I've been, and the food is delicious. The layout consist of a Hispanic food market up front, and a restaurant in the back. The atmosphere is okay and if you're going on a weekend morning, be prepared for a wait. Would definitely recommend this place!

Megelz D.

Yelp
The pork rinds are very good! I wish they had the meat with English as well so I could know what everything is without asking
google avatar

Priscila B.

Yelp
Straight to the point! Food is good just need better clean up. Smells funky Best tongue tacos (lengua), very greasy cabeza tacos. Chicharrones were amazing and so was the horchata. Beans and rice are great
google avatar

MP C.

Yelp
Their simple menu is delicious!!! We'll priced and fast service! They don't speak much English, but can definitely understand your needs! Will always go here for their tacos!
google avatar

Christian L.

Yelp
Nothing fancy, merely the best tacos in the Boise area. They also have a nice carniceria, i love the marinated pork selection.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
This is one of the top best street taco places in the treasure valley must try if you can
google avatar

Julia L.

Yelp
Ok this review is just speaking for the restaurant in the back. My husband kept telling me this place was great and we finally went in, and I was not disappointed! We both opted for carne asada tacos and they were first rate. I'm kind of a taco snob but these blew me away. They were so tender, juicy and full of flavor I thought I was back in Southern California. I can't speak for anything else on the menu, and the market itself seemed to be your standard Mexican market. Everything was clean and the service was friendly and efficient. Can't wait to come back for more!
google avatar

Brenda S.

Yelp
Campos has the best Carnitas in town. I am certain of this. Not an exaggeration. They are flavorful, tender, and fresh. The chicken tortas are my favorite, the simple flavors and fresh ingredients just do it for me. Everything on the menu is exceptionally well made. It's all tasty from the Enchiladas to the Chicharrones. Even the salsa for the tacos is great. I have NEVER received a bad meal here. Not a single piece of weird meat, or stiff tortilla. Sincerely some of the best Mexican food a Treasure Valley market has to offer. Eating here is a little cramped. It's by no means a place to take your date, but there are tables if you're feeling it. Expect the usual shoppers as there are typical Mexican produce/products. The produce, not so fresh but tunas (cactus apples) can travel a ways. The selection of candy is good. The fresh bread is fantastic! With the exception of the butcher, service is terrible. Absolutely some of the worst. The staff in the back is rude and unattentive. They lack even a morsel of customer service skills. You wait an unreasonable amount of time just to put in your order and then WITHOUT FAIL an ungodly wait to get your order. This infuriating amount of time is why I call in my orders and pick up WHEN I CAN. I say that because if you're lucky they MIGHT answer the phone. Just pay for your produce/candy in the back if you can. Otherwise you'll wait just as long to get someone to ring you up at the front. Despite the wait, and rude staff I can't give this place less than a 4 the food is just that good. I've been coming here since it opened and until something better opens up I'll keep coming back for the food.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place to anybody who likes Mexican food. It appears that This is the most genuine Mexican food you can get in Boise. Very good. Spicy but not too hot, but I like pretty spicy food so there is no accounting for taste. I love this place .You can get Lots of food for what you pay for and pretty fresh too. Also the little grocery store it's set in is so cool. They sell things you can't find at other stores so I like that.
google avatar

Yelp
I grew up in Phoenix, AZ and spent more time in Mexico than most folks I know. Mexican food is one of those foods that just never gets old. Having had it in Phoenix, Mexico (from locals), Texas, California, Guatemala, and here in Idaho. Campos Market has food that reminds me of the old Mexican market places and restaurants we used to visit when I was a kid. Down to earth good food. If you like Taco Bell, well, you probably should stick with taco bell because that is most definitely NOT Mexican food. One thing I notice about Campos is that the local hispanic community frequents their markets. That should tell you something. Now, not everyone likes real, authentic south of the border fare, and those folks eat at places like Taco Bell (Just saying the name makes me puke in my mouth a little). But Campos is the real deal. Give them a try.
google avatar

L B.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately it was just okay. I tried four different types of tacos: carnitas, asada, pollo and chorizo. Carnitas are typically my taco of choice. While the meat seemed to be of a good quality, it seemed bland to me in comparison to what I am used to. The asada was more flavorful, but not amazing. The pollo was the least flavorful and slightly dry. The chorizo was the best, flavorful with a little kick. The tortillas were soft and fresh. The salsas were average. Also, I came away with a minor amount of stomach pain. I am always on the lookout for delicious food, so I like trying different places, but unfortunately I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.
google avatar

Alison L.

Yelp
I appreciate these small ethnic markets. Especially the ones that have legit restaurants serving hot foods and meals. A couple weeks ago, I came here to buy meat so that my husband and I could make tacos for dinner. I stopped by the restaurant in the back to buy rice and beans. I was disappointed to find out that the rice was lukewarm, but the beans were frozen!! :( So much for my "fresh" food. I am still going to shop here because of its authenticity and prices.
google avatar

Tony C.

Yelp
Cafe at the back. Really good tacos. They have adobo, chorizo, lengua and even intestine which is really good but your breath will be awlful (so not good for date or business lunch haha). Cheaper than even the taco truck but better quality. Also, oxtails and Flankencut shortribs (think Korean bbq cut rather than stewed shortrib cut) here are about a dollar less per pound than other places like Fred Meyers but equally as good. One more thing, there is a guy out front who sells homemade tamales 1.25 each (6 or more for 1.00 each) [ pork, chicken or cheese]. Really good. Great for lunches.
google avatar

J P.

Yelp
This place is needed in Boise, having eaten real Mexican food (working mans, home cooked, and street food) this place is a real taste of Mexican food. There's an awesome tamale dude out front selling fresh/warm homemade tamales for $1 each The grocery store is well stocked, the butcher shop has great meat selection. And in the back is the best tacos/tortas/and burritos you'll find in a 30 mile radius (I hear there's good spots in nampa) $2-3 you'll get a real taco of 6 different meat choices. Get the real meat choice lengua, al pastor, etc. 3 tacos will make a good meal (real tacos are not big but very flavorful)
google avatar

Virginia M.

Yelp
My favorite place to go for some authentic carnitas tacos and chicharones. Everything you need is here if you plan on cooking Mexican food. Very friendly staff.

Jackie R.

Yelp
Foods ok.. tacos are tiny.. the size of a sand dollar.. way overpriced. Not really worth it in my opinion.
google avatar

Nicholas R.

Yelp
In my opinion, Campos is the best bang for your buck Mexican food in the valley. The dishes are simple and flavorful, and are accompanied perfectly by their unique red and green salsas. The eating area is surrounded by freezers, so be prepared.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Best tacos in town. You want a real treat, get their Carne Asada for grilling and make your own tacos. This is the only stuff I buy for tacos. I forget the name but I buy the most expensive one because it truly is the best.

Summer O.

Yelp
Great place! Unlike any other place here in Boise. Authentic food. Burritos and tacos in the back cannot be beat. Chorizo burritos are the bomb. We always buy the raw carne asada to bbq at home. It is excellent! The produce is first rate. Everything to make a fresh salsa. They even have nopales. We bought frozen tamales. I've never done that but we crave the great ones from East L.A. They came out very good. Recommend if you can't find someplace making them fresh.
google avatar

Khasan A.

Yelp
Very good restaurant good service good food. People always smile and greet you as you walk in. They have marinated beef which is the main reason i go there and a little restaurant in the back for some fresh food. That's all true very good restaurant
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
I love this place. It's not high end food. But it's great street style food served in a small grocery store deli. And it's a grocery store with a meat counter that's hard to beat. When you're looking for a cheap lunch or if you're getting the fixings for taco night at home, this is the place to go. Staff is always friendly.
google avatar

Gary Y.

Yelp
Campo's has a LEGIT taqueria in the rear of the building dishing out a variety of tasty tacos and other Mexican goodies. Come on in, grab yourself a beer or Jarritos, and feast on a fat taco platter! I think the tacos are around $1.50 each, so you won't break the bank. Additionally, Campo's offers the typical selection of Mexican foods and goods plus a well-stocked butcher counter complete with marinated meats, oxtails, shanks, tripe, and other delights not commonly found in the American supermarket.

Lillie A.

Yelp
Good food but took 40 minutes to get just 3 tacos and there was only one person in front of me in line. There was a horrible screeching sound too the whole time I was waiting
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant. You want authentic this is the place. I love the burrito and a coke. They also have the best street tacos.
google avatar

Aleyda F.

Yelp
Ordered six tacos of asada and horchatas and rice and beans. Rice and beans never made it to the table. The taco meat was good but lukewarm and couldn't find napkins at all. It didn't really have a restaurant atmosphere more like I dropped in on my aunt's house unannounced and she served me yesterday's leftovers, complete with children running in and out of the kitchen. Staff was friendly enough, food would have been descent if it wasn't close to being cold. Nothing to write home about. Went in because of the positive reviews but was disappointed. Tacos are $1.50 each and horchatas $2/each. Two stars for friendly staff.
