"Canal Street Oysters is nearly an ideal Happy Hour spot in that area where Soho meets Tribeca. The space, which feels like a high-end version of a Cape Cod seafood shack, is big enough that you don’t need to sneak to the elevator to avoid inviting the accounting department, and its location less than a block from the Canal Street subway is a convenient stop for oysters and natural wine before heading home. The only thing preventing Canal Street Oysters from being an ideal Happy Hour option is they don’t offer Happy Hour. So, your post-work pit-stop here can get very pricey, very quickly as you pay $3 or more per oyster and $14 for a glass of wine. If you’re OK with the prices, though, then you should come here for drinks at the huge horseshoe bar, or get a booth and share a seafood tower, like the one that comes with jonah crab and a bunch of giant prawns." - Matt Tervooren

"Located in a corner storefront in the 1897 Rawitzer Building, Canal Street Oysters’s sprawling space has a woody and nostalgic feel, with booths and twirling bar stools." - Eater Staff

Used yelp to reserve our table and were seated right away so it was already off to a great start. We tried not to order too much as we wanted to try a different restaurant (we're from Orange County so we wanted to make our way around the city), but ended up ordering too much because there was so much we wanted to try! Nonetheless, the food was great! We got the fried combo which included fries, fried shrimp & calamari, and slaw, clam chowder, and both raw & baked oysters. Everything was so good I don't have any complaints. We were seated right by the window with a view of the water and sunset. On top of that, service was impeccable. Would definitely come back in the future.

This place is awesome! I'm sat here typing this review just as we're about to leave as we have had some really gorgeous food and amazing service from Christian A and had to give a shout out. The music and wine was on point too, and a complete surprise for a place we just happened to be walking by. The mood was so chilled and we were walked through the details of oyster shucking. We were even given a couple of oysters on the house which was just a sweet touch. We had a great evening here and would heartily recommend the place.

Spectacular! I was in town for a seminar this week and a good friend of mine recommended this place because it just opened in his neighborhood. Once I saw the hand drawn signage on the light bulb and windows, I knew this place cared about the finer details of life. When we stepped inside, it just got better! We had a great time, the ambiance, the food, the service all wonderful! And the Oysters! Like we shucked them ourselves. Our waiter was from Vermont, but boy did he know his oysters. We wanted an assortment of briny and creamy ones, the dish he brought had small and large shells. They were all plump with a variety of salinity, and texture. Wonderful! When ordering our entree, I ask him what he suggested. He said that during the chef’s interview process she had made a Tempura Cod sandwich... I stopped him midway through his sentence and said that’s what I’ll have. Best decision of the night. It was spectacular!! Thanks everyone for a great night, and best of luck to your new restaurant! I’ll be back the next time I’m in New York!

Christian our server was great even though we were one of 6! tables sat right at opening 4pm Sunday for oyster happy hour...he knew hi oysters and each one of 18 we ordered were perfect. Don't be put off by it's location between two popular Tribeca hotels it's NOT a tourist trap... excellent beers and other apps as well... bluefish dip is great fish sticks are ok but nothing special...but still 5 stars because of the oysters...

Ambiance and the banana pudding earns this place a couple of stars, but those were the only positives. You can’t call yourself an oyster bar and not have crackers, Tabasco sauce or a skilled shucker. Our server presented our oysters and had no idea which variety was which. How do you determine which ones you like best if you don’t know which is which? Such a disappointing experience.

If you’re in the area grab a few oysters and a drink and you’ll leave happy. Venture into the other food and unfortunately it just doesn’t hold up compared to the other places available. Happy Hour is the way to go.

Lots of interesting options. Class chowder was solid. Squid Paella was ok. I'd like to try the sandwiches next time, saw them at other tables and they looked good.
