Canard Vineyard

My husband and I visited Canard last week and had the most amazing experience. Our host, Adam was educated, welcoming and kind. He answered our many questions and his passion for the vineyard and wines was clear. The history of the vineyard is fascinating. The wines are truly outstanding. We joined the wine club and can’t wait to receive our first shipment. The property is homey and beautiful and the cute hogs on property were an added bonus. Do not make a trip to the valley without visiting Canard!

I've sold these wines at several wine stores and always find them semi hidden gems. Their Zins really deliver but I just pulled a 2018 Napa Cab from my cellar and had with a big ribeye. It was singing! Had that perfect balance of tannins, (light) oak and fruit. It could have gone another 8-10 years with proper storage.

Canard Vineyard is an incredible place. The location is so beautiful. The vines are some of the best I have had. The host, Rich, is second to none. We have gone 3 different times, and each time the wine, conversation and overall experience was excellent.

A hidden gem - the best vineyard visit / tasting that we had during our stay in Napa Valley. This isn’t your typical big-production tasting room. It’s an authentic, down-to-earth experience in a relaxed and personal setting. Adam was very knowledgeable and such a great host - we could've spent all afternoon there. The wines are absolutely exceptional—elegant, balanced, and clearly made with passion and care. Their historic Old Vine Zinfandel was exceptional. Waiting for delivery to the UK one day ;)

We recently had the pleasure of going on a Croatian cruise with Adam, Rich & Carolyn where we were able to experience a selection of their wines at a wonderful dinner and also later a vertical tasting of Alluvia. A wonderful time. Looking forward to hearing where a they will venture to next.

We went here a number of years ago and it was fantastic wine for the price. We had a great time with Adam the taster giver. Played some bocce ball. Had some more wine, joined the wine club. Best decision. Sometimes you join the wine club after a few glasses or in the wrong situation a few too many glasses. Not the case here. Great quality wine well below their competitors price point. Case of wine in the fall case in the spring. Such happy days.

Just drank a 2011 Adams Blend we got from a visit in 2015! It was so good! Excellent wines and a great tasting experience!

Discovered this winery at a wine pairing dinner at Beaujolais Bistro. This small French style winery located south of Calistoga is not open to the public. Their old school and small production is all about the terroir, limiting production to under 500 cases. This was the first I have heard of dry farming. It's obvious this stress on their vines have created some fabulous wines. The managing director, Adam Fox presented four wines for the evening. The Cuvée des Cendres Rose 2020 was one of the first rosés in years I have enjoyed. This was newly created after the Glass Fire destroyed the entire 2020 vintage. This 100% Grenache was sourced from the high altitude in the Paso Robles area. Right away you taste the crisp strawberry essence. This will be a fabulous summer sipper on hot Reno days. Portions of the proceeds are being donated to the Valley Community Disaster Relief Fund. A fantastic fun bottle and delicious wine. I also fell in love with the 2017 Estate Zinfandel. Other winery Zinfandels in the past have been heavily spiced or peppery to me. This more rich fruit forward wine with a little jam to me was delicious on its own or perfectly paired with the mushroom soup. The duck breast was paired with the Canard 2017 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. This signature wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and from a single vineyard. Subtle dark fruit notes made this glass a great 3rd course choice. The final course, cheese plate pairing was another interesting story wine. 2016 The Rescuer, is named after Reason P Tucker - a lead rescuer of the Donner Party. This deep dark 90% Merlot uses cuttings from Duckhorn's Three Palm vineyard. The deep deep red color and dry finish was spectacular to top off the evening. Now I wish I could drop into Canard when ever I'm in the Calistoga area. If this sampling represents their entire wine selection- you can't go wrong.

What can you say when the Owner (Rich) and his dog meet you when you arrive....this is a personal, soulful journey through one man's 40+ year vision of what wines should be about. Small, interactive and wonderfully both fun and intense. It is all about the wine, with great explanations of how each wine came into the family. If you can visit, you won't regret. You'll also have great wines to remember and savor the experience!

Canard Vineyard is the most wonderful experience with the kindest, heart warming people. This was my first trip wine tasting in the Valley, and I'll be hard pressed to go anywhere else next time. The wine was absolutely wonderful, and the ambiance was ideal. With only 5 of us on the tour, we got an intimate experience including amazing wine, the most delicious cheese, and a tour of the vineyard. The small production and their approach to respecting the land is refreshing and inspiring. Not to mention the beautiful garden and fruit trees they grow in addition to all their wine production. We rambled through the vineyard while sipping on the Zinfandel, Cabs, and Merlot....needless to say we were in good company and good spirits. Their dog Thor is adorable and friendly! Don't look any further than Canard Vineyard for a wonderful experience and wonderful wine, I know that we can't wait until next time!

If you are looking for the real Napa Valley experience, see if you can get an appointment to visit Canard. It's like stepping back in time before the Valley turned into Disneyland. They treat you like family. Their pours are generous and they always put out things to eat while you taste their wine. Some of the oldest if not "the" oldest Zinfandel vines in Napa. Small production, limited edition wines that are allocated to a few select restaurants. You can either buy at the vineyard (where they offer some wines that are not sold on their website) or on their website. Their 2007 Cab was off the charts! A must if you can get in.

This winery is great. A small production winery. The best $30.00 Napa Cab you will ever have. Rich is a great host. You tast at his home in his back yard with his friendly dog thor. Highly recomended PS-The revier from Jillian S is from a different Conard. Canard Vineyard in Calistoga is very small production and never sold at Trader Joes.
