Island-inspired cocktails in swanky, plant-filled lounges

"Those in search of vibrant nightlife vibes on the Westside will do well at Canary, where colorful LED lights, tropical foliage accents, and DJ-spun tunes bring a clubby atmosphere to downtown Santa Monica. Expect plenty of tiki drinks to keep everyone at the party well imbibed." - Crystal Coser

"Farther west from inland Santa Monica sits a more clubby option, Canary, which I observed offers bottle service and an Instagram-ready vibe compared with Fia Lounge’s lounge-oriented approach." - Matthew Kang

"I learned that Canary Santa Monica is launching a new jazz night on Sunday, December 8, featuring burlesque dancers and cocktails." - Farley Elliott

"Opening in the former West End space, this dimly lit, clubby lounge pairs a tropical-inspired design with nightly live music—from jazz on Sundays to late-night live acts and DJs—delivered with Hollywood-like energy by Pacific Coast Hospitality founders Nas Negahban and Wen Yeh. Longtime LA bartender Devin Espinosa created a colorful cocktail program that leans into rum and tropical flavors, highlighted by the Gran Canaria (rum, lemon, passionfruit, yellow Chartreuse, and mint) and the Cafe Fria (Giffard banana liqueur, rum agricole, cold brew coffee, pineapple, and stout syrup). The venue does not serve food on-site but will host rotating food trucks outside, and it will operate Wednesday–Friday 5 p.m.–2 a.m. and Saturday–Sunday 8 p.m.–2 a.m. (with Sunday hours starting December 8)." - Matthew Kang

"Expect a lush green-and-gold hideaway opening this summer inside the former West End address just off Arizona near 5th Street; the owners—who hail from Belmont, Bruhaus and Neat—plan to host live music multiple times per night, with live acts on Thursday and Friday from 10 p.m. to midnight and DJs filling much of the rest of the evenings, while Sundays will feature jazz similar to the new jazz and funk night happening nearby at Ingo’s Tasty Diner. On the food and drink side, anticipate basic snacks alongside a variety of classic and tropical-inspired cocktails from barman Devon Espinosa; hours are expected to be 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., Wednesday through Sunday, though there is no firm opening date yet." - Farley Elliott
