Downtown’s independent standby leans surf‑and‑turf Tex‑Mex—lobster or seafood enchiladas, ribeye plates, and roasted‑corn queso. Consistently noted by Visit Midland and local listings, it’s a go‑to for a sit‑down dinner before a show or after the office.

Google
I really like this place! Me and my fiancé come here all the time! The service is 100% on point, one of the best in Midland. The food is good..we like the jalapeño shrimp and Mexican martinis the most. It is expensive, but yummy!

Jack Hinds

Google
Service was good, they are always there, food was bland, not much flavor, hot sauce was good. Chile corn queso was really good, I know it's downtown midland but it's a little pricey for bland food,

Aaron

Google
Love this place. They have premium steak tacos and great seafood options. The Cuncun Jalapeños are unique and delicious. I can't ever enjoy their drinks as Im usually here for work, but they look great. The staff and management is always friendly and responsive and the food is excellent. I love when the salsa has a little extra heat, it's not always exactly the same when I visit but always fresh and delicious.

Denise

Google
The staff and service were amazing. The food is overpriced for what you get; It’s possible the price gouging is because it’s oil/wind country out there is Midland/Odessa. The house salsa was on point and the good news stop there. I got a $22ish taco plate and I thought these are gonna be mind blowing tacos. Even at the bougies taco joints the most a single taco is going to cost $4-6 (think Velvet Taco bougie prices) These were not $4 tacos- these tacos were not even giving off $2 street taco energy. The sides did not make up for it- extremely small portions. The taco plate comes with 3 “tacos” and 5-7 bites of rice and beans. Everyone in our group said the food tasted fine it just wasn’t anything special and didn’t match the price point.

Google
If your trying to spend 1000$ on chips and queso and a water, look no further. It’s expensive but good. We only came here for drinks and they were good. The queso was good, it was just a ton of tomatos. Get a Mexican Martin, 10/10.

Google
I eat here EVERY time I am in Midland, near Midland, or can make an excuse to stop in Midland, the owner is very hands on and sweet, but the star is definitely the food. The sauce on their chicken poblano should be on a shelf in every grocery store. Absolutely delicious a lively environment and great service!

David Chastain

Google
The drinks were good, bit way overpriced. $11 for a house margarita. Chips and salsa are delicious, which is the only reason for 3 stars. Queso had corn in it. That's kind of weird, but would have been okay if it had enough flavor. Beef was way too charred, but pastor was amazing. Overall, just alright.

Google
I have had 10 different dishes here and none have been disappointing. Fast service and great food is hard to find in spades in Midland, but Cancun has it here. They also have some awesome Mexican Martini's. My favorite salsa in town and the jalapenos in soy are great. Only drawback is it's very loud with the high ceilings. Easily overlooked for as good the food and service are. Great walk to spot downtown for lunch.

Yelp
This place should be a go to! This Mexican hits a little different from the seafood to the sides. When you walk in you are immediately greeted and seated if your party is complete. The service is over the top! They have a full service bar and my wife says their Mexican Martini may be the best in town. I have a hard time ordering another than the seafood enchiladas because they are so different and they are amazing.

Yelp
The service was good and that's why I've given it two stars. The MILD hot sauce was SO hot and impossible to eat according to all 3 ladies at our table! We were obviously really disappointed because when you go to a Mexican restaurant, you definitely want to eat chips and salsa. The menu prices were just ridiculous and unfortunately our food was just "so-so". Each of us agreed we wouldn't order the same thing again. My bill alone was $45 and I left hungry. Very disappointing...we won't be going back.

Yelp
What a great steak!! The bacon wrapped shrimp and hominy were wonderful too. Service was very good and quick. And the ambience was relaxed and authentic. I definitely recommend this spot fully! The corn queso and the jalapeño appetizers were DELICIOUS!

Yelp
Great Service & Delicious Food! I'm a native Midlander, but I live in LA now. It was nice to have great Mexican food during my visit home. Our favorites: filet mignon enchiladas, seafood enchiladas and puntas rancheras. The owners, Nemecio & Javier & the waiters were very nice & made you feel important.
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
The service was amazing, drinks strong and food was fantastic. I'd highly recommend eating there if you like authentic Mexican food.

Lisa W.

Yelp
Food was extremely bland and very disappointing for the cost. Also, be aware that if you ask for a second plate there is a $2.50 charge for the plate. I ordered a peach margarita and it was so sweet I could hardly drink it. Prices are outrageous for the quality of food they serve.

Yelp
I really enjoy going to Cancun Grill for all of the fresh tasting food, fantastic seafood options, and excellent service. Even though it gets busy during lunch hours (one of the limited food options in downtown Midland), service moves quickly and they are able to accommodate larger groups by pushing tables together. Dishes with shrimp come with the tails still on, which makes it difficult to eat. Salsa is great! Nice consistency with a little kick, but not to spicy.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
While starving in Texas our Uber driver recommended the spot. We were headed to a restaurant next-door and well I'm sure that one is equally as nice this one was really really good. Very authentic fresh food and fast service. I ordered a Pomegranate Mojito that hit the spot. They have the chips that are served warm and a very delicious salsa that is packed with flavor. My mole was delicious and there's a ton of it two people could share. And the guacamole also very tasty. If you're in the area you should check them out!

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time for dinner on a Saturday night and loved it! Waiter was super helpful telling us about the dishes and drinks. We LOVED how many seafood and vegetarian options there were on the menu. The drinks were great and the food was prepared perfectly. Also, very good fresh salsa with the chips! We will definitely be brining family back here!

Fred G.

Yelp
First time customer. Worst experience I've had in such a long time. Food was not good (literally ate 2 bites). Was hoping manager asked me about food like he asked everyone else at the table (10 of us).But he didn't. When ordering I asked him about nachos, he said they don't have them. 3 people at the table ordered them including my wife!!!! I told him that my wife and I are on a separate bill, in the beginning. Fast forward, time to pay and he says they don't split bill....why didn't he tell me that when I told him about me an my wife?? Food way over priced for portion you get. Then not good. I will never go back.

Yelp
Service was very attentive and helpful. The salsa was very good. Everything else was not great. The chicken lacked flavor and the chile rellano did not taste fresh. I am not sure how to describe it. The battered pepper seemed premade and had no seasoning.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
This is the BEST food in Midland Texas!! Everything is so fresh! Great fresh fish! Great steaks! And the nicest people ever!

Melhaine G.

Yelp
Place was convenient hotel. Could walk and didn't feel uneasy. Place is not fancy but is adequately decorated. Did try to set me at bar because I was by myself but was very accommodating when I said no. Waiter was great and attentive. Seafood enchiladas were good and a light option. Rice was somewhat bland but was tasty. Came with coleslaw, not a fan with Mexican food . Side was carrots and zucchini was good. Loved the salsa and chips and coke was great. I would come back

Yelp
This is an amazing place to take the family or entertain customers. The corn queso dip if perfect with house made chips. The staff is amazing. You will not be catered to like this at any other restaurant in the area. Extremely polite and super attentive. From the steaks to the salads to the seafood, every dish has been amazing. One my favorite local spots!

Yelp
Corn queso all day everyday! Prompt and friendly service. Cancun is a Midland staple!

Yelp
Amazing Service, yummy drinks, and delicious food!!! You can tell they take pride in their all they provide! Everything is outstanding! Can never go wrong here!

Yelp
This is one of the best restaurants in Midland, if not the best. My husband and I went for a quick dinner on a Thursday evening. I ordered a salad as I wasn't too hungry and was blown away by the flavor and quality of each ingredient. The chicken was juicy and grilled to perfection, the veggies were delicious and even down to the quality of the spinach. You would have thought they plucked the ingredients from a well taken care of, home garden. I could eat their food every day! Now the service made this experience top notch. We got professional, polite, and friendly service from every staff member. We didn't lack anything at any point on the dinner, received wonderful food and drink recommendations, and felt welcomed. That's hard to find in the Permian Basin!

Yelp
Cancun is a restaurant in downtown Midland. This is apparently what locals like judging by the reviews. I'm not gonna trash this town or anything, but, this restaurant would not be in business very long in a larger city like Houston , San Antonio or Dallas. The salsa was good , chips were very thick and bordered on stale. we ordered corn chile con queso, allegedly fried corn with a spicy cheesey sauce. Nope. It was like cream corn in a watery slightly chesse flavored liquid. If it had any flavor it might have been good. No salt, No Flavor whatsoever. The only flavor was corn. On our way to Odessa , we stopped for lunch in Uvalde. I ordered the bacon cream corn at an airport cafe. It was almost the same as this stuff, except it tasted great , had bacon, and loads of flavor. These guys should take note. My wife took some of the corn queso water and mixed it with the salsa, which wasn't great, but did make it edible. For dinner, we ordered enchiladas, I got the steak and my wife got the shredded chicken. Its supposed to be covered in jalapeño cream sauce. Here we go again. Cream gravy minus jalapeños. It just sat there on our enchiladas, taunting us. I did have a single, paper thin slice of jalapeno garnish on top of my enchiladas, does that make it jalapeno cream sauce? i guess the enchilada was ok, honestly , the steak was pre-cooked and dried out. Taco Cabaña could have done as well. On top of that, the prices here are on the high side. Most items on the menu range from $23.00 to $35.00. That's way more than most mexican restaurants we go to. Typically in Houston, Austin, SanAntonio , you expect to spend 15-20 dollars for a plate of Tex-Mex fare. These guys act as though they are fine dining, they have a million " Managers" running around. I wonder what in the world they are all doing? Certainly not checking the food quality, or ensuring a great guest experience. They never stopped by to ask if we were enjoying our food. Our waitress was effective, but acted as though she is serving hand grenades in hell. She looked very unhappy and acted the same. This place has a dress code, I applaud that, it's unusual these days. But, Please, Please, stop serving tasteless food at premium prices. I cannot imagine a scenario where I would ever come back to this restaurant. In a boom and bust town like Midland, one would think the ownership would treat the customer like gold. Our experience would make us feel more like rusty tin. Maybe this is what locals expect in a good Mexican restaurant, if so, I don't want to know what the competition is cooking. I originally give them 3 stars, because it was a one-off, but the experience really was about 1.5-2. I just don't feel good trashing a family restaurant. The refried beans were the best thing on my plate as you will see in the photo. I edited my review lower because the more I thought about it , I realized how sub standard the whole experience was. In Southeast Texas , we have a place called Taqueria Arandas. It's a chain, but, the food there on a bad night would run circles around Cancun Grill. For less than half the price.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Best tasting "Mexican" food we've had away from California. Truly authentic, delicious and worth the price. We had the bacon wrapped shrimp with grilled jalapeños. For dinner We chose 3 taco dinner and the shrimp Tilapia stuffed chille rellenos. Beer was nice and cold and the Mango Margarita had a generous amount of alcohol. After all that you'd think there's no way we could have dessert right? Their homemade flan with cajeta was a must! So delicious. The staff was very attentive, the owner came to greet us as we shared how much we enjoyed our meal. Strongly recommend.

Yelp
I drink a lot of water, so at most restaurants, I am sitting there wanting someone to come give me a refill. Here, they continued to refill & check in on us. My family got different dishes and we sampled each others. it all tasted good. Relaxing environment. Yes, I still get sticker shock when I have to pay a bill, and this place was no different. it came out to $60ish for the 3 of us (one was a kid). I really did enjoy it. Best customer service for sure.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience here. Not traditional Tex-Mex. There are always alot of seafood options. The staff is always fast and helpful, the food is delicious! Great drinks (love the Mexican Martini), corn queso, jalapeno app, seafood enchiladas, bistro steak, and the orange potatoes are awesome too (not sweet potatoes but I can never remember the name). It's in downtown, so walkable for lots of businesses at lunch. I do wish they took dinner reservations.

Yelp
Have not stayed in Midland before, so this is a first of many to come. Staying at the DoubleTree Hotel just a block over, Cancun was easy to find. It opens for dinner at 5:30pm, and I was seated immediately. Staff was very attentive and friendly (thanks Jesus). Plenty of seating and enough space between tables so it doesn't feel you are sharing dinner with your neighbor. Munched on chips and salsa while pondering the menu. Lots to choose from on the menu, from rib eye steaks, enchiladas, salads and items on the grill. Did not order mixed drinks nor appetizers.. But did order the Fajitas Plate, with Chicken. About $16 Since it was not crowded, the food appeared relatively quickly. So the not so good... The chicken fajitas was meh.. They were grilled with green, yellow and red peppers. The cuts of chicken were dry. The plate comes with refried beans, guacamole, white rice and Pico... Beans were cool, but the plate was warm... Had flour tortillas, think 10 inch tortillas... Plate size.. Dining experience... The decor is ok, dim but the biggest distraction was the noise.. Concrete floors and exposed concrete ceiling ... When the blender goes off, you can really hear it... Granted you don't have to worry about insulation falling into your food, but it is loud. Would I recommend this place.. Maybe... It is convenient if you stay at the DoubleTree Midland Plaza, easy to find, but the food and decor on my first visit was meh. Not a lot of options here on Midland, so I will most likely return... Because I will have no other choice, except for a sandwich shop near by...

Yelp
Aight, I didn't like this place years ago when I was in town for good reason. Now I love it. Awesome food and fantastic drinks. I ordered the basic cheese enchiladas years ago and was less than satisfied. Ordered to Mole tonight and was glad I did. Drinks are pricey but strong. Apps were awesome (corn queso, and these little jalapeños soaked in like a soy reduction. Blew my socks off) our whole crew loved it and the service was nothing less than spectacular. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Josef H.

Yelp
Food was not bad but wasn't great. Maybe we came on a bad night. But expected a lot more with the prices. The corn queso was not bad but taste more like a corn chowder, no real flavor at all. My two daughters said it was gross. My wife got the nachos which looked like something you would make at home, tortilla chips and melted shredded cheese with meat. I got the Langostino and Shrimp enchiladas. Not bad but wasn't really anything to recommend to someone and was really not even warm when I got it. It was basically Pappasittios type prices but normal Midland quality food and service. I won't be back to try it again. there were plenty of people in there that looked very pleased.. maybe a few more drinks would have helped the food pass muster.

Yelp
This is a gem. Was not expecting to find such a good restaurant where I did. It wasn't overly crowded like many Midland restaurants are and not an oilfield crowd. Nice full service bar. Friendly bar tenders. Decent margaritas. But the food was outstanding, at least what I had was. I've never had what I got anywhere, but was called the veggie power bowl. No meat, just very well cooked high protein veggies. Not even sure what all was in it. Overall, the menu was more coastal Mexican food than your traditional Tex-Mex. Very good.

Yelp
I have been traveling for weeks now and this place is amazing, I ordered the Cancun seafood enchilada plate, O my was this a delight. The wait staff was simply wonderful. You have to eat at this place if you are ever in the area. I also had some sweet stuff, see the photo My server was Sabrina, a delightful person. This was in the top 5 meals in my life
google avatar

Ali P.

Yelp
The service, cleanliness, and atmosphere were extremely exceptional, so I did enjoy my visit. I was disappointed with the steak tacos because it was basically meat with a tortilla and the marg tasted like straight mix. It wouldn't be my first choice for Mexican in midland, but several good traits about the place also.
google avatar

Nathan L.

Yelp
I was in for a weekend from Lubbock, and desperate to find something I could eat real quick downtown next to the convention center where I was attending an event. Cancun seated me right away, brought chips, salsa, and tea to my table in less than a minute, and my server was ready to take my order. My food arrived maybe three minutes later, hot, fresh, and exactly what I expected. Three good steak tacos plus rice and beans later, I was out the door for a great price in ONLY 15 MINUTES! That's amazing service.
google avatar

Sandy N.

Yelp
Came here again for a co-worker's going away luncheon. There was about 14 of us. The service was friendly and attentive even though it took a while to get our food. It was not as busy as I thought it would be on Friday. They give you free chips and salsa and uggh their salsa taste like picante sauce well actually let me take that back, it taste like ketchup with a hint of picante sauce. I did not feel like eating mexican food, since I had some the day before. So I ordered a chicken club sandwich with green chile. It was on top of a jalapeno cheese bread and had a roasted green anaheim chile in the middle. Also suppose to have bacon, but i got two burnt ones that shrunk down to as small as my pinky finger. lol I guess I shouldnt have ordred "american food" The chicken was good not dry at all but no flavor, I felt like i need some kind of cheese or mayo on this, the bread was more so sweet than savory. However, I did taste the ribeye tacos from my friends plate and they had no flavor at all. LIke it looked good, but it wasnt appetizing and my friend said the same thing. Improve on your flavors in food. My friend said that my chicken sandwich tasted better than her tacos. lol I think this place is not that good as everyone thinks, but this is west texas maybe this is the mexican food that everyone knows and likes?

Yelp
Excellent food, service, cocktails and atmosphere. It's a joy to eat here, a gem In Midland. I have been several times and they have been outstanding.
google avatar

Kasey S.

Yelp
I should have taken a picture but I got the nachos tonight and they were chips with melted cheese on top. Not even Queso. Melted cheese like I could make at home in the oven. I don't know how this place is so popular but their food is very bland.

John B.

Yelp
Best place to eat in Midland by far. Great service. Staff is amazing. They take care of you from the time you walk in the door until you leave. Food is outstanding. Cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. By far best steak in town as well.
google avatar

Rebekah S.

Yelp
SO GOOD. First time here and I tried the Langostino & Shrimp entree. Such a unique and tasty flavor, I wish I could take this restaurant back home to Houston where I'm from. Their wait service was fantastic as well. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Steven T.

Yelp
Way over priced for bland tasting food. They don't know what seasoning is. The enchilada sauce is out of a can and the beans taste like canned beans as well. Not to mention uncle Ben's white rice! We were not impressed. There are 100 other places I'd try before here.

Misty S.

Yelp
If you can get past the rude owner, who will not allow you to order one second before 5:30, even if you traveled from out of town and you are handicapped and can't hardly walk, you'll then be told they take items off the menu and won't make any alterations to a dish despite the food being horribly over priced. Owners have the right to do what they want but the last 3 times I've traveled from out of town to come here I've been treated like garbage and this will be my last visit. The restaurant won't be here long with this kind of nonsense. Luckily, Midland has so many wonderful restaurants. So sad, Cancun was at one time my favorite place to eat. They lost a very loyal, long standing customer who brought family members and huge party's in for many years and told many people about the once wonderful food. Too big for their britches. You don't have business being rude to customers.
google avatar

Debbie M.

Yelp
Incredible service, fantastic food and margaritas are fabulous. We are just in Midland for a short time but would come back just to dine. Back foR a second time. As good as we remembered! Can't make a trip to Modland without eating here. Service, food, drinks, all excellent!
google avatar

Crystal B.

Yelp
Longtime Midlander and we love this place. The white Corn queso is amazing and so are the drinks! They have good specials also. Haven't tried anything I didn't like

Trina D.

Yelp
They have consistently not given back the correct change when paying in cash. This happens every time I use cash.

Cynthia V.

Yelp
Ordered sweet tea got jicama after I told the waiter sweet because he thought I said unsweet. While I was eating my chips one of the 3 waiters took my chip basket ?! Mind you I was in the middle of eating them. Waited over an HOUR! For our food I ordered fish fajitas it was completely over seasoned my husband ordered tacos that were swimming in grease!!! Never going back!!!

Charlie C.

Yelp
We walked in and were seated right away at 6:00 on a Saturday night. Our surveys name was Daniel! He did a great job ans made sure we were well taken care of. The food is always great and the service the last few times we've been in we better than most placed in Midland. Thanks for letting us have such a great experience!! And a huge thanks to Daniel for making our daughters and us feel comfortable and enjoy our dinner
google avatar

Michael T.

Yelp
This place is one of the best restaurants in midland! Management is great. Food is delicious. Corn queso and special jalapeños are amazing.
google avatar

Bart D.

Yelp
Nice place for dinner, exceptional service. I has the shrimp arrachera which is like fajitas. The shrimp was very tasty and the rice on point. Nice crowd and no delaya with our orders.

Yelp
Ms T and I made a long weekend trip to the Midland-Odessa area to see what this part of Texas looks like. I had been as far west as Big Spring before, but never out this far west. We had a good trip and learned a lot about the Permian Basin oil patch. On our day of arrival, we toured the George W Bush Childhood Home, then hit The Wine Rack for a craft beer and then went to Cancun Bar & Grill for dinner before driving back to our hotel in Odessa. Cancun, true to its name really focuses on seafood. It was not really the style of Mexican we were looking for, preferring more central Mexico, but it was OK. We started with the complimentary salsa and chips. Our server was a real salesperson and sold me on trying the queso dip with corn. The complimentary salsa was tomato with mild red chile flavor. It was very tame, needed salt but was OK for the style. It is very simple and does not have any complexity. Think tomato sauce with a little red chile. The queso was pretty good, although Ms T did not care for the serious sweetness that the corn adds. I found that when mixed on a chip with some of the red sauce, both were better. They serve the tasteless thin "restaurant style" chips. Ms T chose Shrimp and Tilapia Tacos. These really needed the addition of lime (which you have to ask for) and salt. They were really unseasoned. They were served on soft white corn tortillas, which is good and after dressing them up a bit they were OK. These would be so easy to season better, at least the seafood was not fried. They were accompanied by a sweet cabbage slaw that was apparently dressed with Miracle Whip. This was not the right dressing to accompany the seafood. I ordered Seafood Enchiladas. They were covered with a thin cheese sauce and included shrimp, sweet corn and a little mild green chile. Overall these were also pretty bland. The seafood did not have a lot of flavor so again, seasoning and more green chile would help. They were accompanied by sautéed vegetables which were very garlicky and plain rice. I liked the vegetables OK, they were not overcooked. Their guacamole was made for us "special" without onion. The server made a big deal about doing this for us, whether true or not. The guac did not really seem fresh as it was off color, sort of brown and since we did find a little onion, we suspected that they tried to pick the onion out of what they already had. At best, the avocados were past their prime. It included a little tomato and chiles jalapenos but it also lacked salt and lime. Our server was nice but frenetic or maybe just coked to the gills. She spoke at 5000 words per minute and I understood maybe 20% of it even though it was not heavily accented. I was just able to communicate with her. The service was "too good". We were constantly being bothered by the server and the bored water girl, seeing if everything was OK. You know what I mean, there is a right level of attention you need and this far exceeded it. Our meal was OK. My main issue was lack of seasoning on pretty much everything; the red salsa, the shrimp and tilapia, the seafood in the enchiladas and the guacamole. All were bland, not bad food, just bland. Without access to the wonderful fresh seafood that you get on the Mexican coasts, this place needs to work on seasoning and perhaps getting some real grill flavor into the seafood. Oh, and maybe an intervention for our server. This was a 2-1/2 star meal, rounded up to 3 stars.

Amy C.

Yelp
Pricey but service is good and food is delicious. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is attentive. I recommend.

Yelp
Excellent food and atmosphere. When I come to Midland, I love to eat here. Great drinks, great grouper and awesome chicken mole. Will be back.
google avatar

Alison M.

Yelp
Nothing here really blew me away. It was good but it wasn't amazing. It is around $15-20 a plate. The queso with corn in it was pretty good - but I love corn so I'm partial. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos and they were OK but not the best I've ever had... the mahi mahi pieces were huge. My friends ordered bacon-wrapped shrimp which came with these delicious marinated in soy jalapeno peppers and I LOVED them - best part of the meal if you ask me. Again - not amazing - but good.
google avatar

Yelp
When you're in downtown Midland your choices are kinda thin. No worries because it's just a short ride out of downtown. Now comes Cancun, a passable Mexican place with a nice atmosphere and super friendly Staff. So how did I end up giving them only 3 stars? I generally try the house margarita, guacamole & enchiladas at a first pass at the Mexican place. The food was ok even guacamole had a weird purple tint to it but it was good. The margarita was shockingly expensive $15 and had very little discernible alcohol in it but lots of ice that tasted like Midland Odessa tap water. I asked for a shot to stiffen my drink and it was $11. The absolutely most I've ever paid for house booze. I saw a couple of other dishes come out that looked good so next time you can bet I'll get my drink on elsewhere before I stop in this place.

Stephanie J.

Yelp
We are vegetarians and we LOVED this place. Denise was wonderful and had great recommendations. Fresh and delicious Mexican food. We will definitely be back!

Meagan W.

Yelp
What an absolute disappointment. My tacos sucked. What kind of tacos come with no sauce? The chicken enchiladas completely bland with no taste and super dry. Yuck. Drinks - yuck. 12.50 for a shitty drink. No thanks
