"Cane Confections is coming to Convoy Street, where it’s replacing Freeze ice cream in the complex that also houses Izakaya Sakura. Opening in mid-June, the shop will revolve around drinks made with fresh-pressed sugar cane juice, a staple Southeast Asian street snack. Touted as being less sweet that typical boba drinks, they’ll be topped with everything from strawberries and kumquats to young coconut. Nguyen says the cafe will also bring another trendy Asian beverage to San Diego — creamy shakes made by blending purple rice, also know as forbidden rice, with tangy yogurt." - Candice Woo

Google
A tad overpriced for sugarcane water with a little bit of fruit. Overall, the drink was good on a hot day. Employee was friendly. Wait time was short. The list of things that they ran out is as long as their menu.

Google
This place is the best! I missed the wonderful sugarcane juice I found on the side of the road in Brasil. But here you can get it! It was easy to order and the drink came quickly. They will need to move to a bigger place soon it’s popping with people.

Google
Such a cute place ! I was craving for sugar cane drinks and this place is great! It's not too sweet. I got the seasonal citrus and strawberry. Definitely would recommend on a nice hot summer day in san diego.

Google
I really enjoyed my pineapple cane/coconut juice at Cane Concoctions. It was super smooth and nicely balanced. The amount of ice was just right (but if you’re not super into ice I’d suggest asking for less). The staff is very friendly and attentive. It’s a cozy and cute space as well. I recommend coming here for an authentic cane drink experience.

Google
Cane Concoctions has a menu of smoothies and juices that are made with sugarcane - they literally put the sugar cane through a crusher as you order a drink - super fresh. And all the drinks look so visually gorgeous. There are enough options and toppings to have to returning to try something new over and over. Really impressed with their focus on fresh and attention to detail (like their homemade lavender jelly which is delicious).

Google
Cute little spot! Not sure why people say the lady is rude, the ladies were very kind to me, however I didn’t get any crazy drinks, I just ordered what they recommended and go. The drinks, are delicious, pleasantly unique. I’ve never experienced a taste like sugarcane, it almost tastes like mild coconut water but sweet, and the add ins are worth it for that little bit of texture. I liked that everything tasted real, no fake sweetness and all that garbage, very good. Thanks for the recommendation!

Google
Great drinks and super friendly staff! I tried the Pink Princess, Tropical twist, and the classic sugarcane + coconut drink. They were all delicious but my favorite was the classic sugarcane and coconut. I saw a random comment mentioning artificial sweetener - that is definitely a lie. You can actually see the workers create the drinks directly from where you order and they use only fresh fruits, no added sugar or sweetener. Parking can be tough but the lots nearby always have open parking if you’re willing to walk an extra minute or two.

Google
Amazing drinks and very refreshing. Prices are a tad too high but Starbucks costs almost $10 a drink too nowadays. Where else can you find sugar cane juice! Will be coming here a lot

Linh N.

Yelp
Love this place every time we visit we'd put stop here for some yummy fresh pressed sugarcane juice. This time I tried their sugarcane with kumquat so refreshing. Service was quick and it's a cute place!

Cindy N.

Yelp
I love the sugar cane drinks here. Absolutely refreshing. I enjoy the Original Coco Sugarcane drink and the Pennyworth one. However, the drinks are not consistent in sweetness. Too bad they got rid of their durian ones. What bothers me though is that you can pay $1.00 for "less ice," but they literally just remove the amount of ice and don't fill it with more sugarcane juice. The drink never gets filled to the top and while some places do that to let the ice melt, paying $1 more for the removal of said ice alone without more sugarcane drink seems ridiculous.

Erika T.

Yelp
Easy to find with ample parking. Small but cute store with about a dozen seats! Wasn't too busy when I went so there was no line and our drinks came out decently quick. I ordered the passion fruit with just sugar cane juice, since there's an option to have sugar cane and coconut water combined. It was nicely sweetened by the sugarcane and the passion fruit flavoring wasn't overpowering. My friend got the strawberry lychee limeade or something. It was light and refreshing as well. I would come again for the sugarcane juice since there aren't many options around SD for it (vs LA).

Lisa N.

Yelp
I was in the mood for a drink other than boba. I liked how when you ask for less ice they don't charge you extra and the cup doesn't look sad. The interior is super cute. The 2 girls working here were polite and fast. I ordered the pennyworth coconut (mia nuoc dua rau ma) and coconut calamansi kumquat (mia nuoc dua tac). Both drinks were very refreshing. Fair price for the size of the cup. I'd come back.

Aly Q.

Yelp
I absolutely loved this place! It's almost like a hidden gem! I got the passion fruit sugarcane juice and it was 10/10. They were out of some things but they're most popular is the kumquat and passion fruit. The original sugarcane juice comes with pieces of coconut meat in it. Sugarcane has its own taste but it's all natural! Can't wait to go back!

Julie D.

Yelp
VERY underwhelming.. both of our drinks tasted watered down and mixed with lemon (which is totally fine, as it's a natural preservative, but lacked in pure fresh naturally sweet sugarcane taste). Unfortunately, this tremendously lacked the wow factor typical of sugarcane juice so don't let this serve as an accurate representation of what it should actually taste like...

Didi N.

Yelp
I was craving sugarcane juice and saw this cute little place nearby. Upon walking in, it's a very aesthetically pleasing environment. Cashier was nice and I decided to order the sugarcane juice with fresh coconut meat in it called the coco sugarcane. Service was very quick and I got my drink within like 6 minutes? It is pricey for the drink itself. I paid almost $8 for a large and the reason why I'm knocking off one star is because my drink barely had any coconut pieces in it. Like three small pieces. The sugarcane juice itself was delicious and I appreciate that they make it fresh and right in front of you. I grew up drinking homemade sugarcane juice and this was very reminiscent of my childhood. However, I wish they would add more coconut to the drink rather than just a few, measly pieces. I was craving more coconut as I was drinking it. I'm open to try more drinks though.

Allison W.

Yelp
The best sugar cane juice!! First time trying it and really impressed with the natural, sweet and yummy flavor!! Our orders were taken quick and watching the sugar cane machine to make the juice was really cool to see. Will definitely come back for some yummy juice

Axel C.

Yelp
Closest location for Sugar Cane drinks - beats driving to Garden Grove. Sugar cane with kumquat is the best. My one and only drink. They're not cheap on their portions and price wise is okay (considering other places where they charge an arm and a leg). Drinks are good and am hoping to try some of their other drinks soon.

Erica C.

Yelp
3/25/24 - I visit here probably 3-5 times a week. This time a large passion medley and a medium watermelon. Great presentation r and both drinks are fantastic. Always great service. Check out photos.

Caitlin D.

Yelp
Wow??? I've been pushing off going here because many people told me that they only do cane sugar drinks mixed with coconut water/diluted and they don't have it classic. -- Why would they say that? It's so FAR from the truth! The parking lot was practically empty since most of the restaurants open around 4pm. The shop was empty, but clean and had AC. The girl working there was really kind and friendly. They had a Vietnamese (written) menu and an English one. I just came back from a month long vacation in Vietnam and nearly everyday we had nuoc mia (sugar cane). I liked how Cane Concoctions had a diverse menu. They even had rau ma (pennywort drinks) ! And a popular drink in Vietnam, yogurt with black rice. Refreshing, new, and divulging. To drink, today I ordered the sugar cane with kumquat, no mung bean. I chose medium. The medium still feels like a large! It was so big. I like the fact it comes with nugget ice, that's so classic. Also it was a clean taste of sugar cane. Not diluted at all, and you can taste the kumquat as well. A great balance of sweet n sour. Perfect for a hot day! So refreshing. Highly recommend coming here and trying a drink out! You won't regret it (:

Charlene C.

Yelp
Quick and refreshing. Never knew this place existed. So glad to have a sugar cane joint in town! This 32 oz bottle was $13.50+tax.

Linda L.

Yelp
Cute spot very aesthetically pleasing until you get to the menu and half the things have tape on it hahahaha. Asian people. I don't like there's kumquat in the drinks as I like my sugarcane and coconut just as is and sometimes I get the flavors to try. Wish there was coconut meat in my drink and wish the lid wasn't dome. Also maybe they make the drinks fresh in the morning but definitely but by cup as I saw her pour from a pitcher. It's not bad but not amazingly to die for either.

Jessi E.

Yelp
I love this place. Whenever I am in the area, I grab a durian drink. Super hard to find in San Diego, but it's worth it at this shop.

Christina C.

Yelp
my all time favorite sugar cane place!! drinks are big and prices are fair :) so yummy

Brandon D.

Yelp
I love sugarcane juice so I am surprised that I am not here more often. It is located on Convoy and is one of my favorite drink spots in the area especially when I don't want boba. I feel like you cant go wrong with any of their drinks. It has never been busy every time i have went and we are always able to find a seat. The servers are very helpful and we have also ordered sugar cane juice in bulk from here before. The cafe is also very aesthetic and great for pictures as well. I will definitely be back!

Quentina W.

Yelp
Service was quick and there are plenty of parking. Had high expectations because of all the positive reviews. I ordered the original sugarcane with coconut, lite ice with extra juice for a dollar extra. Not sure if that is their definition of "lite ice" but I feel a bit cheated on I think they also add calamansi to the drink, so there's a citrusy taste to it at the end.

Jessie Z.

Yelp
Actually quite cute inside and the worker is quite nice/efficient. Kind of hole in the wall spot. The sugar cane juice can be kind of hit or miss depending on how fresh the sugar cane juice is pressed, but the portion is decent for the price considering other drink prices like coffee and boba. Compared to the other sugar cane juice places I had, this one has a rounder flavor vs clear more similar to coconut juice. The citrus one isn't very sour and could do more with kumquat/calamansi as you can't really taste it, but is pretty and refreshing to sip on! They did hand press the actual kumquat fruit in vs using juice or conc so that could've affected the concentration of the flavor too. I could tell the process was homemade and not really have much additives as they do it right in front of you.

Kathy T.

Yelp
Ordered a large Cocopassion with added kumquat. Total price was $8.62. It was pretty good and honestly I've been here a couple times and keep coming back because I miss sugarcane juice from Vietnam lol Decor is nice. Service is fast! Definitely recommend!

Nolita N.

Yelp
Came here twice and both times I ordered off of their citrus collection. Both drinks are so refreshing and taste really fresh -- none of that weird artificial fruity flavors some drink places use. I've tried the Tropical Twist which is a lychee and raspberry limeade topped with homemade jelly and the Fruit Rhythm which is an iced lychee-red dragon fruit and fresh pineapple topped with aloe vera. Both drinks were really good, but I did prefer the Tropical Twist more only because it had a more tart flavor. So that's just preference. Although I've never ordered the sugarcane drinks, my friend did and through him I've tried the regular sugarcane and the coconut-sugarcane and both were really good as well! Other misc. things: plenty of parking, but with a lot of the plazas in Convoy it can get packed and hectic. The workers are all very nice and it seems like drinks are typically made to order so sometimes there's a little wait, but it's nothing crazy. Decor: it's cute, kinda feels like they might add more to it, but idk. Also some seating if you want to sit and enjoy your drink. All in all, I do recommend this spot if you're looking for a sugarcane drink or a citrusy one.

Joy S.

Yelp
Quiet spot tucked away in convoy! I wanted to try something new and decided to check this place out. I'm so glad I did! The worker suggested I try the kumquat sugar cane drink and it came in a big container which i'm thankful for :) I wish more people knew about this place!

Zoe L.

Yelp
100% freshly juiced sugarcane juice. Quick service. Clean equipment and environment.

Han L.

Yelp
It's the only place here i know of that does sugarcane so they are the best by default. Really well decorated interior too.

Long D.

Yelp
Nice place to drink your sweet away with sugar cane drink and more. Clean and quick. Good service. Talking in perfect Vietnamese accentReadonable price and good portion. Recommended

Emily K.

Yelp
This place is very cute and the service was great. I came a little late in the day so they ran out of a few flavors for their drinks so I ended up getting original sugarcane, Watermelon sugar cane, coco pineapple, & coco strawberry. I think their original had some orange or orange juice in it, because I could smell it and taste it a little and unfortunately I didn't like that; I wish it was in the description. Other than that, all the drinks were enjoyed and I would come back.

Sheila B.

Yelp
Visiting for a family vacation and a friend told me that there was a spot in San Diego that had coconut sugarcane! I knew I had to try it. There's a pretty big menu and lots of variety to choose from. I got the classic sugarcane and coconut juice as well as the pink Princess? Classic: super tasty! And pricing was great too compared to the Bay Area. Pink Princess: I think that's the name lol. It was dragonfruit, sugarcane, and coconut juice. Very aesthetic of course but also taste. You don't get too strong if the coconut taste - I mainly tasted the dragon fruit. But enjoyed it! Service was quick and friendly. The person who took my order answered any questions I had and was helpful when I was indecisive if what drinks I wanted lol

Kacy O.

Yelp
Fun drink spot on Convoy.. Located about 6 businesses away from Bistro Kaz, a lovely Italian Japanese restaurant, in the same plaza. Enjoyed a medium-sized passion fruit drink made with pure passion fruit and sugar cane juice. So refreshing. Drinks come in a medium or large size. Hope you can enjoy one of their delicious beverages soon. It might just knock your socks off :-) Too bad we don't live closer to this shop as we'd be here at least once a month.

Parada O.

Yelp
I grew up drinking fresh sugar cane juice in Thailand, but wow Cane Concoctions was a revelation! They freshly juice the sugar canes to order. I love love the OG one with sugar cane, coconut water, and a splash of kumquat juice. It is so delicious and refreshing--and not too too sweet--especially on a warm day. I highly recommend grabbing lunch next door at Mekong followed by drinks at Cane Concoctions!

Tammie W.

Yelp
Sugarcane drinks are all the rage right now (or soon to be), so we had to stop by Cane Concoctions and check it out. There were a few people ordering their drinks when we got there and I watched what they ordered before placing mine. I ordered the medium seasonal citrus coco-sugarcane drink which was Calamansi, a popular citrus in the Philippines that my friend's family actually grows. The medium drink was huge but the sweetness was subtle and the Calamansi was tart, sour and delicious. My husband ordered a large pineapple coco-sugarcane drink which was superb. It was very sweet, had bite of pineapple coming up the straw and was wildly delicious. If you've never tried a sugarcane drink, I'd recommend it. They're definitely different, refreshing, unique and have an aftertaste depending on what flavor you get. I'd recommend the pineapple because it's sweeter.

John C.

Yelp
Love a freshly made sugarcane drink normally found all over Asia. Loved the different varieties served here and the cleanliness. Great customer service and for sure will be back as I have always been a fan.

Samantha W.

Yelp
Yum! You can watch them make the fresh pressed sugarcane right infront of you which is awesome because some places pre-make it ahead of time and just pour it into the cup for you which is kind of disappointing. Especially because you don't know if they're adding in extra sugar. But this place is delicious. Can't get any fresher! We had passionfruit added to ours and I also love that it's actual fresh real passionfruit and not a passionfruitesque syrup from a tub.

Shristi T.

Yelp
This place has really tasty sugarcane juice. Pure sugarcane juice without any added sugar. Available in different flavours. We have the sugarcane juice and coco- sugarcane. Really refreshing. One of the best places in SD where I could find pure sugarcane juice! The place is a small cute cafe, with pretty corners Service was really quick.

Lynda D.

Yelp
Sugarcane & Kumquats x2 was craving something with Kumquats and this place made the top of my list.. This place is small yet so cute!! the florist and lighting hits perfectly on my model I got sugarcane and kumquats, but was hoping for more kumquats in it, but can't complain since the base is mainly sugarcane.. if i was craving more of sugarcane like how they had this place up in LA this place is definitely the place to go.. Not to mention this is a thirst quencher for those hot summer days! After all this is the first week of summer

Genovese L.

Yelp
Came here on a whim after grabbing dinner in Convoy and was pleasantly surprised by the quality! Parking can be a bit challenging as the lot is shared with other popular businesses in the plaza. The service was quick and friendly! If you love going to Cococane in OC, then you'll be happy with Cane Concoctions. It's not a Cococane, but they have their own take on sugar cane/coconut drinks. They have a wide enough menu and you can add other toppings in it like additional coconut meat. The drinks are refreshing and you can taste the sugar cane + coconut. Will be back again!

Ros A.

Yelp
Such a cute place and I really enjoy their drinks here!! On my most recent visit we tried a couple of their sugarcane juices and a rice yogurt. The sugarcanes were juiced right there so it was cool watching and having it juices fresh. After juicing, they filtered it and made our drinks. We tried Durian one which is topped with Durian and cashews. Coconut is topped with fresh coconut flesh. And the passion fruit and dragon fruit. They now have large sizes available and it's a really great value. The drinks were refreshing and I really liked the fresh fruit toppings on each of them. I had to also try one of their rice yogurt. This was my first time trying and I tried the original which had forbidden rice in it. The yogurt has a slight sourness. As I continued eating it, I really started liking it a lot. The staff is really friendly and so helpful. They have great recommendations and descriptions of the drinks if you haven't tried it. Definitely recommend checking them out for great sugar cane juices.

T N.

Yelp
Really good sugarcane juice. I had the pennywort sugarcane. Taste exactly the same as Orange County. Definitely worth $8. It's so refreshing. Will be coming back for sure. Yummy!

Cheska T.

Yelp
I believe this is the only sugar cane juice shop in San Diego! Parking is not too bad but if you can't find a spot there's also a backlot available. I got the calamansi drink and it was so refreshing. The drink wasn't too sweet and I got less ice and more juice in it. They are very quick with making your order and it's fun to see them putting the cane through the machine. Definitely coming back to try the other flavors!

Lili T.

Yelp
Came by here today with my parents while we were waiting for our take out dim sum. We were greeted by a very sweet gal working behind the register and another worker came out to help make the order. We got two large nuoc mía + tác (sugarcane + kumquat) and it was so delicious!!! We watched them make it after we ordered and it was great. The service was very friendly and my parents really enjoyed it. We will definitely be back again!

Jazzi E.

Yelp
I have been here a few time for the sugarcane juice and it is awesome! A little off the beaten path of convoy, but has a big parking lot. I usually get the kumquat flavor and my boyfriend gets the passion fruit. You can get pure juice or mixed with coconut water. Quiet atmosphere if you want to have your drink and work/study.

Linh L.

Yelp
My go-to place for sugarcane in SD! I love the classic sugarcane + kumquat, super refreshing and affordable for the size ($5.95 with tax for a medium, which is still quite large compared to the medium cups at any other drink shops). Giving it 4 stars because the corn milk was okay, and the coconut sugarcane was too much coconut and not enough sugar cane. Felt like I was just drinking coconut juice. Overall, great place and will always come back!

Eric B.

Yelp
I love this place so much. Everything tastes so fresh and delicious, and I love all the fresh fruit options. I'm normally a huge bubble tea/boba fan but this is my new favorite. Everyone that works here is also incredibly nice. My favorite place for something sweet after a meal on Convoy.

Arlene P.

Yelp
If you want fresh pressed cane sugar drink. This is the place. Usually only see these at street fairs, so now you can get it anytime and get big cartons got your fridge!

Myphuong L.

Yelp
Very similar to a sugar cane juice place in OC. So glad we now have one in San Diego. Although it's kind of pricey. It ranges from $5.50 to $8.50, toppings additional then tax and tip comes out to at least $10 average. That's like getting a cheap alcoholic drink! What makes up for that is the one size cup like Starbucks Venti size, I think 20 ounce? Also it's chewblet ice cubes, better known as crushed chewable ice that melts in your mouth. It absorbs the drink flavor better and melts fast. So with the boba straw, you can suck up the crush ice with every sip. Instead of drinking all the liquid and leaving behind a cup of ice cubes. Been here twice. The first time I got Coco matcha with young coconut juice, organic matcha topped with fresh pineapple. It came as two toned, two separate layers that needed to be mixed. Once you mix it up, this drink taste so good and refreshing. I was t a fan of the tiny bits of coconut and had to spit it out when I came across it. It was like crab shells or plastic. The second time I got the Detoxicane which is Matcha, pineapple, lime, sugarcane and coconut juice. Also very refreshing. Not a fan of two slices of pineapple. I rather it be chunks. Coco matcha is better because it had more fruit bits. So the best part that would justify the price and me coming back again was the extra large cup size and crushed ice.

Sharon Z.

Yelp
Good sugar cane drinks!! But def tastes more coconuty because they add young coconut in their regular original juices.

Jennifer N.

Yelp
Finally! A sugarcane drink place in SD! It is extremely hard to find, theyre usually at street fairs/farmers market and usually fill that up with too much ice or make it too sweet. Not only do they have sugarcane but they also have durian! I love durian, guess you can say I'm one of the lucky few who loves the smell and taste haha If you never tried durian before, I wouldn't buy a durian drink here because its kinda expensive and theres a huge chance you might not even like it. I've never met anyone whos liked durian as an adult for first timer- its definitely an acquired taste. If you really wanna try it, I recommend coming with a friend who likes it and trying sip of their drink. Its also really hard to transfer by car, most boba places have sealed lid and just the right size to fit in cup holder. Their cups had neither so it literally felt like transporting lava because oh boy, if those lid popped open and spilled over car. GG. Durian does not go away that easily :/ The straws also are too short for their cups. Thats my only complaint though, get better cups. Plus points for playing viet music though!

Ryan M.

Yelp
3.5 star Really unique and one of a kind place in San Diego, i've seen small Vietnamese shops have some sugarcane drinks, but it was just strictly sugarcane juice over ice. This place has a lot of variety of both flavored cane drinks and non sugarcane based drinks. Being my first time i of course had to go with a sugarcane based drink. I opted for the citrus which was kumquat or calamansi (whichever is in season at the time.) It was not overly sweet, which i liked, i think the coconut helped mellow out the sweetness and the calamansi added a nice citrus flavor. I like that all the drinks are 24 oz. I'd return to try some other flavors, maybe the original without the citrus or a non cane based drink. They were very helpful in explaining the different drinks. What was odd was that they gave me a numbered placard when i ordered but when the drink was made they did not call out the number but the drink. So what was the purpose of the number? They are located in the same lot as The Original Pancake House, if the parking lot looks full, look behind the shops theres parking behind too.

Bradly P.

Yelp
Decided to drop by to see if the hype was real and WOW it was! Nuoc mia or sugar cane juice is trending now and I just had to check out this place due to the high demand. Its located off of Convoy in Kearny Mesa in a busy food restaurant area with limited parking so make sure you can wait it out! They have multiple drinks on the menu ranging from everything to classics and exotic drinks such as durian and mung beans. They have multiple toppings to pick from to jazz up your refreshing drink . We decided to go with the original sugar cane and the Saigon! Both of the drinks were satisfying as ever with the small ice cubes and the original sugar cane I felt I could drink it forever without getting tired of it! The place is set up as a modern classy place with table and chairs you can sit at with beautiful decorations you can relax and enjoy with. Hands down one of the best sugar cane juice spots in town with multiple options you can pick from and maybe try some durian for the first time!

Emmett T.

Yelp
Sugarcane based drinks have now made their way into the SD market with the opening of Cane Concoctions. It's kind of surprising that this type of business had not set up shop earlier in the Convoy District. The owners also operate Little Nap Cafe in Hillcrest and Ichiban Sando in Chula Vista. This suite was vacated for a while after the closure of Freeze San Diego. The drinks were 24 oz in size and were broken into four menu categories... Classicane, Exoticane, Citrus Collections, and Signature Collections. I chose the first one on the board which was the Original. The components were young coconut and sugarcane. For an extra $0.75, I added pandan jelly to my beverage. The place was not very busy, but the service was extremely slow after paying for your order. About five groups of customers were ahead of me, and all of us waited at least 20-30 minutes. When I finally got my drink, I took a sip before leaving the premises. The sugarcane had a smooth sweetness to it along with the freshness provided by the coconut. If the staff can become more efficient at assembling orders, then I think the business will do fine in this strip mall plaza on Convoy St.

Johnny N.

Yelp
Nothing like some cold sugarcane juice on a warm summer night. Since it was my first time there, I stuck with a Classicane flavor of Seasonal Citrus (Calamansi). I really enjoyed the blend of sugarcane and coconut with a hint of Calamansi flavor. Definitely will be coming back to try their other flavors and toppings!
