17 of the Best Breweries in Richmond, Virginia - Eater DC

"From its a sleek and sophisticated tasting room in the Fan neighborhood, Canon & Draw pours fruity goses and malty porters as well as selections from sister brewery Steambell. Grab a group of friends for a night of trivia and pool at this cozy taproom." - Stephanie Ganz

This is an actual brewery, with brewing equipment right in the front window. But it’s also a very laid-back beer bar, with a seating area in the front with couches and room for dogs, pool and shuffleboard tables, and a few high tables spread loosely through the space. You can get beers in different sizes, or a flight of tastings. I had a 12oz Plum Ginger Gose, and my partner had a 4oz taster for “Just a Small Piece”, a very dark, sweet and strong beer. I enjoyed the beer, but honestly it wasn’t so incredible it warrants a five-star rating. What does, though, is the relaxation of the place. You can sit down, play a board game - either bring your own or use one of the many games they have on hand. I found the whole experience very enjoyable because of this relaxing environment. I’d love to have such a quiet place closer to me, to enjoy regularly.

Supremely tasty beer, very friendly service (we went early on a Sunday afternoon when it wasn't busy), chill atmosphere, love this place. Beautiful aesthetics, open and airy, board games and a game cube for entertainment. No pups allowed....yet! I think they said it will be dog-friendly in July. No outdoor seating, but lots of space inside. I'm so glad we stopped here!

The staff was very nice. They are also knowledgeable about the beers. The space is nice and modern. The small clear shelves should have rounded corners. A flight board or a token system would be nice. Maybe something to consider. The beers we're very good. And priced right

As competitive as the Richmond beer scene may be, this new offering is definitely a contender. The Sole Accomplice was outstanding and the other drafts I sampled show promise as well. The focus is on small batch brews with distinctive character and I'd say they are off to a great start. A welcome addition to the best beer city in the country!

The Fan finally has a brewery. These are the same folks from Steam Bell, which bodes well. Good beer, friendly folks, very nice decor.

Decor is cool and i love the pinball machines. Beereeers ! They have a great selection and the people watching at the Main St facing seating seems to be a popular activity.

Seems like a pretty decent place to drink. A nice space. My impression of the beer though matches another review. Seems like a cleanliness or cross contamination issue. Beers turned out sour, so they decided to try to market it as sour. Berries and Cream, and Corossive Haze two beers I tried both tasted wrong. I like sour beers, but I could not finish either of these. I really hate giving bad reviews, but if a friend was asking, I wouldn't recommend.

Delightful beer in a hip upscale setting. Everything my wife and I had was absolutely delicious. The setting is all concrete and dark wood, perfect for a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Friendly bartender, very knowledgeable about beer. Overall a great experience.
