"Find the convivial Canon sequestered away from the downtown bustle. This cool space that contrasts deep tones against bright whites is enveloped by the aromatic smell of smoke, so it’s no surprise that the house is packed most nights.Chef Brad Cecchi is the culinary mastermind and his menu is pivoted around playful small plates. Keeping that in mind, arrive armed with a group as involvement is the bottom line. Whether you’re sipping a cocktail while snacking on Urfa chili drumsticks at the bar, or savoring lamb pavé matched with roasted pineapple and blue corn tortillas, dining here is a global tour de force. Picky palates will find much to enjoy among the many vegan or gluten-free items; and dessert tapas will have your sweet tooth working overtime." - Michelin Inspector

The best part about the atmosphere 1 it is unassuming 2 It is surprisingly nice given the view from the street. The food was great! Easily the best kabob I have ever tasted. Service was top notch. Providing just enough info for a quick decision. Be invisible when a good conversation is happening, and just taking care of things without drawing attention to themselves. Drinks refilled without ever being empty. Easily earned a bigger tip. I would go back.

This is our second time here and both times the service and food was amazing I will say though that the oysters were very small for the price but they were tasty. And not to critique the owners but I think they need to start spending some money on the building our plate was chipped and the chairs are showing some wear and tear.

Attended my cousins 40th birthday here. This is the 2nd time I've visited this establishment, and I'm always leaving impressed and happy. I personally can't afford it outside of a special occasion, but you're getting a quality service and meal for the price you're paying. Staff is very accommodating of allergies, attentive of needs, and great communicators. Again the food is phenomenal, the staff is amazing, and I highly recommend going here yourself (especially if it's on someone else's dime.)

I was on a business trip and stopped in for a solo dinner. The staff was amazing—warm, welcoming, and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious. I started with the tots, served with mole, pickled onions, and cotija. They paired perfectly with a Frey Ranch Old Fashioned. The combination of smoky, crunchy, and just the right amount of heat made for an outstanding starter. For dinner, I chose two small plates: the Smoked Tombo Tuna and the Crispy Cauliflower. Each was excellent on its own, with a great balance of flavors. But together, they were something special. The sweet smokiness of the tuna, complemented by crispy shallots and chili crisp, paired beautifully with the crunch of the cauliflower, the warmth of the red curry, and the richness of the cashews. The flavors worked so well that I was surprised this was not a planned pairing. I matched dinner with a pilsner from Temescal Brewing, which rounded out the meal perfectly. And… I could not leave without something sweet. So I ordered the chocolate donuts and an espresso. If you think a restaurant that nails the appetizer and entrée might stumble on dessert, you would be very wrong. There is no way on God’s green earth that anyone can mess up chocolate donuts and espresso. It just cannot be done. And Canon was no exception. The vanilla sugar-coated donuts, served with Irish cream ganache and cold brew, were the perfect finish to an already wonderful evening. The pairing was a no-brainer. The sweetness of the donuts and the bitterness of the espresso balanced beautifully. This was a Monday evening, and the restaurant was quiet, making the service feel very personal. They struck a great balance between being attentive without hovering. If you are on the fence about where to eat in Sacramento, go to Canon. You are in for a fantastic meal in a great atmosphere.

You might drive past this place and never realize what a Sac gem. Situated in a mostly residential area this restaurant delivers it all in one package-food out of this world, service beyond top shelf (Katie was main server but they all work together and are knowledgeable and attentive), ambiance just enough energy to create a peaceful vibe (dined alone) so this is a treat. I could have eaten most every menu item but needed a quick bite. Had fried green tomato-starter, main-kale salad and focaccia bread, dessert (weakness)-chocolate donut w coffee foam AND pistachio orange tart (took home for later).

I’ve been to this restaurant twice in the past month, and both visits were disappointing. During the first visit, the dishes were served cold, though the bartender and staff were friendly and polite, which prompted us to give it another chance. Unfortunately, the second visit was worse. We only ordered drinks this time, but the bartender and another staff member were defensive when I inquired about egg whites in my whiskey sour. While they offer a vegan alternative, I prefer my cocktail with real egg white. I didn’t need to be told, “Our vegan foam is better,” or be lectured about my choice. When I asked about this—since I had been served a whiskey sour with egg white on my first visit here—their attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. I left feeling confused and disappointed. Sorry but I don’t plan to return.

Here's the revised review with your added detail: --- My experience at Canon Restaurant was nothing short of amazing. The food was on another level, featuring unique and delicious flavors. The plating was impeccable, with each dish looking like a work of art. We ordered different dishes to share, which worked perfectly for us, allowing us to experience a variety of tastes. The cocktails were elevated to another level, enhancing the overall dining experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a memorable culinary adventure.

Google
Definitely visiting again for the great cocktails. Honestly I was drunk before the meal came so my judgement could be biased: but the food is also very creative and delicious, especially the chicken drumsticks and the tomato dish. Highly recommended. I changed this review from 5 stars to 3 only because there was a $7.4 “Health and Wellness” charge on top of a $100 per person dinner. Isn’t SB 478 already in effect?? Or the managers really think that customers will be happier paying nonsense fees than a slightly more expensive menu?

Yelp
Canon was a great experience, thanks to Britta! My sister and brother-in-law came in to sit at the bar after a long day at UC Davis Medical Center. We were having a difficult time losing a close family member and we needed to get away to get our mind's off our current reality. Britta was quick with service, informative on the menu and very caring. It's people like Britta that can someone's day feel special during a hard time. Britta is also a very sweet person and happily recommends good spots to eat around the area. I highly recommend you go to Canon and see her.

Yelp
Great food and drinks! Everything I've had here was cooked to perfection! A little on the pricey side, but very nicely done. With a great outdoor seating area and an excellent drink selection, this place is going to be around awhile. It's a really nice place for an anniversary or some other kind of celebration. The staff is very attentive and they're almost like mind readers. Every time I wondered...where's that server...I turned, and there they were about to ask me if I needed anything.

Yelp
We ordered the full chicken - as a note it takes 30min to cook, so order ahead or get appetizers like we did. The chicken had a sauce on the side that was very flavorful and the skin was well done - crispy, tender We ordered the cabbage salad and the potatoes - absolutely delightful with its sauce and mushrooms. Crispy potatoes. All the flavors were well done and mended together The dessert we ordered was absolutely amazing- a type of beignet with a cheese cream and peach compote- we loved it! Overall this was a nice restaurant but the restaurant is hard to find/ parking is hard. The area isn't great but the restaurant itself was nice and clean. Very hipster vibes

Yelp
This was a toughie.... I'd go 3.5 stars if I could for total experience and price. We came to celebrate our anniversary and left satisfied but both my husband and I said we wouldn't choose to return. This was a one-and-done for us. First, the style for ordering is not my thing. I want a balanced plate for a nice meal out and having to choose between a platter of meat or a collection of random side dishes/shareables didn't work for us. We ordered the New York steak for $65 to have a protein we enjoyed but it was too much for just the two of us to comfortably share. A half order for smaller parties would be appreciated. And it was disappointing that it came with barely any garnish. It was just a huge slab of meat with au jus and 3 little pickled okras and 3 tiny slivers of raw radish (which added nothing to the meat). The okra tasted nice but it would have been lovely to provide mor of them and maybe give an even number so a party of two can equally share it. It wouldn't be hard to add party size to the order and have a chef do some simple math. I was also really bummed that the posted menu online indicated there would be halibut, but when we arrived, it was salmon. The shareables we ordered were good. The fingerling potatoes were the best. We had no idea there would be duck meat included and that, plus the green sauce and whipped ricotta, made the dish feel like an elevated baked potato. We should have ordered 3 of these. The cabbage salad was pretty good too. And the oysters, though very small, were cleaned very well, sweet, and briny. I wish they had been served with fresh lemon. It seemed odd to omit that. Instead they were served with 3 different tinctures of sauces/oils(?). The cucumber mint was nice. The rose one was terrible. The honey-something-or-other tasted of honey. No spicy sauce, unfortunately. But thankfully, the oysters were delicious all on their own without needing any additional accoutrements. The menu was a little odd to read, as well. One side dish--the squash--indicated cranberry and sourdough. When I asked our server if there was bread in the squash, like a stuffing dish, perhaps, she said no, the dish just had "the essence of sourdough" as a flavor. What? At that point, we no longer knew if the ingredients listed were actually IN each dish or if we were instead reading tasting notes like for a bottle of wine. Our cocktails were alright. I ordered the Jake Ryan (very apple cider like, meh) and hubby ordered the Monarch (blech!). For Round 2 we shared a new amaro we found on their shelf and that was the winner of the night. Service was pleasant. Ambiance was beautiful but loud. We had to lean in to hear each other all evening, so we didn't talk much. They should install some sound-suppression in the rafters to help. We were also seated really closely to another party of 2 in the middle of the room and it felt awkward. There is barely any parking available. There is a small strip of 90-minute parking out front, but it was completely full by our 5:15 PM reservation which was odd because there were no other customers in the restaurant when we arrived. Not sure if it was eaten up by employees or members of the tiny fitness center next door... Most or the parking surrounding the restaurant is 1 hour until 10 PM which is terrible for a restaurant location. We finally found a spot that was 1 hour until 6 PM deeper in the neighborhood but felt bad parking in front of someone's house and didn't enjoy navigating dog poop on poorly lit sidewalks. All in all, not for us. Pretty plated food but not our kind of culinary experience.

Yelp
My husband and I and I came here to celebrate our anniversary. Neither one of us have eaten here before, but we were looking forward to trying something new. My husband got the featured cocktail, Pink Starburst (Geneva Gin, Vodka, Lime, Blackberry, Yuzu) and I had the Flip- Flopped. Both drinks were balanced and had a good flavor. For appetizers we shared the Pão de Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), confit fingerling potato, and chicken drumsticks. We enjoyed the flavors from all the dishes. They were also pretty filling, and I should not have ordered an entreé. However, since it was our first time at the restaurant AND our anniversary, I rationalized that I can take the leftovers home. For dinner, I ordered the Iberico pork collar. I thought the dish was tasty, but since I was in Barcelona a few months ago, I have to admit I thought Iberico pork dish I had was better. For dessert, we shared the chai tofu cheesecake. I'm glad we tried the dish, but I don't think it is something I would order again. Our server was extremely nice and attentive. She made our anniversary celebration special. All-in-all it was a good experience and I'm glad we finally tried Canon.

Yelp
This is a solid restaurant for good food but it is pretty pricey. I had the roasted cabbage salad, smoked cheddar biscuits, pork collar, halibut, and the tofu cheesecake. The cabbage salad in the biscuits, tasted delicious! 10/10! The biscuits weren't dry and perfectly baked. The biscuits with the bacon butter was so decadent, but it was worth it. The pears paired well with the cabbage salad. The entree's were solid but I didn't think it was anything special. The halibut had a miso sauce on top which I thought overpowered the fish. 8/10. The pork collar tasted great. As an Asian American, I respected the new take on using pork collar. 9/10. Tofu cheesecake 8/10. It was unique but I didn't think that everything complimented each other. I had the sassenbach and forbidden fruit 8/10. Good drinks but I could find something similar somewhere else.

Yelp
The ambiance is out of the world. The service is highly professional and educated. The food was creative and expertly plated.

Yelp
Celebrated my girlfriend's birthday here. This is tucked away, so it was a bit hard to find, but I appreciate the hidden gem. Ambiance was trendy. We had the halibut, and it was amazing. The sauce was creamy and augmented the fish's flavor. The New York strip was also superb. Well seasoned. Served as excellent leftovers. The potato and pork wedges were excellent as well. They paired well with our steak. The oysters were okay. I've had better. I wasn't a fan of the condiments that came with. Our server was attentive and super kind which added to our experience.

Yelp
My husband and I came here for dinner and had a nice experience. The ambiance is comfortable and the bar area was really nice. We had a really friendly server who helped us pick the good times below. The food you could tell was fresh, not heavy, and delicious! The bartenders made me a nice refreshing mocktail which tasted great. This is a nice restaurant perfect for a celebration or a date night. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
First time back to Canon since Covid, and was looking forward to the full experience this time. Previously the number of guests were minimized each night and I think the outdoor area was closed. But almost 4 yrs later with everything back up and open, I wanted to take my girlfriend from a quite date night experience indoors. To a birthday dinner celebration outdoors right before sunset. We were promptly greeted by the host after arriving and quickly walked to our table outdoors. We were so excited to finally see this area in person, and the pictures didn't dp it justice; it's a lot larger and nicer in person. We were sat at a table for two next to the large patio fireplace, that out out to the street. Which gave us a nice view of the evening that eventually went from sunset to a night sky. After ordering our drinks we quickly asked the host if he could take some pictures for us out in front of the neighboring mural. And at the front entrance to which he happily obliged us. Once back at our table, our drinks and meals went as follows. Drink: Pandan Express (Milk Punch) (Featured Cocktail) Cabana Vic Pilot Noir Tequila Mule Appetizers: Upside-down Cornbread Pickles Main Courses: Grilled NY Strip Iberco Pork Collar Dessert: Miso Nectarine Cobbler All of the dishes and drinks were delicious. After dessert we definitely left full. OVERALL: Great experience again, this time out on the outdoor patio area. Attentive staff and waiter, delicious food and drinks. Couldn't have asked for more to celebrate my girlfriends birthday. Cheers!

Yelp
Came for dinner on a Friday night. Didn't have reservations and was able to get a seat. Sat on the patio which was nice. The service and food were great. We ordered Kombu smoked trout Garden cucumber salad Blistered pole beans Iberico pork collar They were all great in their own way. Would for sure get them all again but the beans were my favorite probably.

Yelp
ORDER Kentucky Fuzz Ginger ale Upside down cornbread Yellow peaches California asparagus Grilled NY strip Overall good experience and would recommend to anyone looking for a good meal with a nice vibe. The portions are shareable and we probably could've done without the asparagus but hey it wasn't bad it was just a lot of food for us. I had to knock a star off because our dishes came out with big gaps in between. This could be due to it being busy night or short on kitchen staff. We weren't the only ones as the table next to us had the same where's my dessert look on their face. This is a great place to try and I'd recommend to anyone looking for good food!

Yelp
Wowzers! The drinks were good here. Should have expected it when you see a a set is small liqueurs for the bartender to use. Was able to get a spot at the bar for two. The beignet fries are a must (can only get at the bar

Yelp
Canon is magical. It's that not so hidden gem that feels very neighborhood, and feels very special all at the same time. Diners tip: make reservations! I love the seasonal menu, and the unique offerings. Most frequent diners will order the chicken, and with good reason. It looks and smells delicious. I love that the dishes are all meant to be shareable. It's what dining should be. You'll want to order everything on the menu, and you should. When you do order, items are brought out in stages, and paired together to be enjoyed at their best. We ordered the tater tots with mole sauce. Everything is made in house. The tots were fresh, hot, and tasty. The mole sauce was a tad bitter compared to the other mole sauces that I've had. One of the things that I really liked, was that there was an even amount and plenty to share. We then had the butter beans. Damn delicious. There is magic in those beans. The mushrooms were meaty, tasty, and I could have eaten those alone. The cheese crisps... omg, a little bite of heaven. The beans were well seasoned and the combination of all the different flavors, like I said, magical. More deliciousness arrived... I adore not being rushed through a meal. We decided on the crispy lamb pave and the stuffed naan. The lamb is presented looking like a "brick" with shaved carrots on top. The naan is stuffed with goat cheese, green garlic, and fermented raita. The lamb... the crispy exterior is so good!! When the "brick" is pulled apart, it's moist and juicy. The lamb isn't gamey. The shaved carrots should be their own food group. The perfect Mediterranean vibe! We combined the sauces, meat, carrots, raisins, and fresh mint. It was a taste explosion. I could dine there daily. It was THAT good. Service was impeccable. The food was outstanding. My only negative comment was that I opted for a Shirley temple and it was disappointing to the tune of ten dollars. Canon is a great for a dinner date, an upscale get together, or a family meal. They welcome children, but this is the experience that you want child free. If you've never had the Canon experience, please go! If you have, you know that it's time to enjoy it again!

Yelp
We had a lovely anniversary dinner here on the patio! I love creative chefs & menus, and was looking for dishes that not every other restaurant serves. We just shared lots of the small plates, which were all relatively filling. My fave was the huitlacoche purple sweet potato with corn, super tasty - also super filling FYI! Great design / ambiance, pretty good service, look forward to going back for seasonal dishes!

Yelp
So, I just recently had the pleasure visiting Canon during my trip to Sacramento and I'm happy I had a chance to try them out. Canon is a chef-driven neighborhood tavern that features creative and seasonal fare. It is located in East Sacramento and offers indoor and outdoor dining. If it would not have been for Yelp, I probably never would have found this place because there is zero advertisement on the outside of the restaurant, and I would probably just driven right past it. After confirming that I had the right address I parked my vehicle and proceeded towards the front entrance where behind the exterior sunscreen you will find this beautiful outdoor patio dining area which is quite impressive. I then proceeded inside and was promptly seated. The inside of the restaurant is just as mesmerizing as the cozy patio and I was pleased deciding to come here for dinner. I ordered the Grilled Octopus with Clams from the menu which was served shortly after. The Grilled Octopus was incredibly tasty with house bread which was nicely charbroiled and added such a nice touch to it. The claims were also out of this world. I was afraid it might not be enough, but this was just perfect during my dieting. Hands down one of the best dishes I had in a long time. 5 stars for excellent food, cozy atmosphere and friendly service!! I'II be back! Enjoy and Bon Appétit

Yelp
This is our favorite restaurant in all of Sacramento, and we have been around! Amazing seasonal cocktails that rotate, small plates, and entrees that are perfect for sharing. We have loved everything, but the oysters with the accoutrements are just amazing. We usually get dessert as well and it's always such a perfect finish. They have a beautiful enclosed patio space and the interior is lovely as well. All of the servers are attentive and sweet.

Yelp
I really love this restaurant! I love the idea of small plates that can be shared family style. I have been here many times and I've enjoyed everything I've had. The chicken drumsticks are my absolute favorite item on the menu. They also have some wonderful nonalcoholic beverages. The service is always excellent. I definitely recommend checking out Canon!

Yelp
Homey yet modern upscale restaurant great for groups who like to share! I came here for a special dinner and was pleasantly surprised. Walking in, I immediately noted how beautiful it looked inside. It is recommended that you order a couple small items or share the entree with a few small items. We wanted to try a variety so we got 4 items. My favorites were the white beans and the hamachi. The beans were so flavorful and savory. The hamachi was fresh and the green sauce it came with was amazing. The cauliflower was underwhelming and slightly hard to eat because they literally give you the whole head. The chicken drumsticks were very tender but a little over seasoned and salty for my liking. The service was great and the items came out in a timely manner. I would recommend this place, especially for vegetarians!

Yelp
I dined at this place to celebrate my birthday with my partner as we heard that it's a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant, and while we were excited to experience what the restaurant had to offer, the overall experience was somewhat mixed. The service throughout the evening was good (efficient and attentive) ensuring we felt well taken care of from start to finish. For my meal, I ordered the "Golden Child," which was pretty good. For an appetizer, we had the tots, which were just alright... nothing remarkable. We decided to share a NY strip as our main course, but unfortunately, it didn't meet our expectations. The steak was chewy, and the flavors didn't quite come together as we had hoped, leaving us a bit disappointed. We ended the meal with the tres leches cake, which was okay... the quality of the ingredients for what we got were there, but the flavors didn't quite hit the mark. Given the higher-end pricing, we expected a bit more from the dishes. As for the ambiance, the space was cozy and inviting, with beautiful mood lighting that created a pleasant atmosphere. However, much like the food, the setting didn't leave a lasting impression. It was nicely decorated, but nothing that truly stood out or made the evening feel particularly special. Overall, while our experience at this restaurant was fine, it didn't quite live up to the hype or the price point. The service and atmosphere were solid, but the food left us wanting more in terms of flavor and execution. It's a place that might appeal to some, but for us, it didn't quite hit the mark for a memorable birthday celebration.

Yelp
Had an early dinner on Monday night. We ordered two appetizers, 2 entrees, and three sides. Couple of drinks later, the bill was over $300 for 3 of us. I don't mind the price, if the food quality was a little better. The ambiance was great. It had a good crowd, but our order was the first in. Appetizers were good but not "over the top". Small portions, just enough to taste. Tot's (about 15 stacked) and biscuits (2). The side dishes came out 10 minutes later. The main course came out 20 minutes later, so we returned two and they kept them "under the broiler" to keep warm it seem liked. Why would you send out your sides without the main course? Even the waitress could not answer. The main course arrived. Order the Chicken and the Short Ribs. The Chicken was done well. Juicy and allot of flavor. The Short Ribs were disappointing. Dry and over cooked. This cut of meat has can be really juicy, but if you over cook it, it loses any fat it has and dries out. And when you reheat it, you can only hope. They tried to drown in sauce, but it was still dry to eat. But it seemed liked the other customers loved it.

Yelp
This is a review for both my dinner here and for the prepped Thanksgiving dinner I got from them (2 years in a row now). As for my last meal, really great. Their bar program continues to be fantastic. We ordered the pickles, the sourdough loaf, the tots, the oysters, caramelized Jerusalem artichoke, tortilla española, albacore takati, roasted summer squash, the swordfish, and the NY strip. 95% was fantastic. The cheddar fat butter was the most genius thing for the whole dinner. Never sleep on the bread at this place. The beurre rouge on the swordfish really made that dish sing. The cook on the ny strip and the agrodolce was truly fantastic. All of the veg was great. Only thing that didn't work was the pizza style tortilla española. Overall, truly great meal, which I come to expect here. The Thanksgiving dinner is also a great spread especially if you've been working too much and want to save a lot of time on food prep. The highlights are the Parker rolls, the twice baked potato tart, the roasted squash, and the sweet potato cinnamon rolls (an extra I added). But everything was good. Very repeatable. Thank you for being you, Canon.

Yelp
Long overdue post for Canon. Chef Brad expertly transforms traditional American dishes into contemporary delights. We ordered the halibut and the whole chicken for our main entrees. The fish was fresh, and the pea sauce was a lovely touch, though the deconstructed whole chicken could have used more sides; the tapenade was okay. The seasonal menu adds excitement, perfect for celebrating big occasions. They also have a nice wine collection. Service was excellent, with attentive wait staff providing helpful suggestions. The ambiance offers a casual, farmhouse welcoming vibe. No wonder this place earned a Michelin star--definitely coming back!

Yelp
Last Tuesday was my first time at Canon! One of my best friends has been hyping this restaurant up to me for forever, and his fiancee and he took my wife and I out for dinner. I know others have harped on the lack of parking, but being a Midtown resident this didn't bother me. I'm used to eating at restaurants with little to no parking. Canon is on the border of Midtown/East Sac, which makes for limited space. You won't find large parking lots in this part of Sacramento. If you're from the suburbs or a rural area just be ready for this. I really enjoyed the indoor/outdoor dining area. It is extremely creative, as I love sitting outdoors but don't want flies/bugs/etc interrupting a fantastic meal. Canon does an excellent job of covering their outdoor area so it feels "indoor" while still being "outdoor." Incredible ambiance and creative design throughout! The service was interesting. The host was extremely friendly and sat us early (our friends hadn't arrived yet). However, our server was "weird" to say the least. I don't know what it is about Michelin restaurants but the few I've been to always have servers who are condescending and have a bit of an attitude problem (lol). It's as if I'M the lucky one who gets to eat at their incredible restaurant and just have to take this sort of strangeness. I'm no "Karen" by any means, the opposite, in fact. But I just can't stand servers who act like they're the ones being bothered by serving you, especially when they're about to clean up with a huge tip. Another thing that was annoying was this same server yanking my butter knife right out of my hands. Just strange, impatient behavior that I would expect from IHOP or Denny's but not a "Four Dollar Sign" restaurant. I know she was trying to prepare my steak knife but I was still using my butter knife. For my drink I chose the Chai Again tequila drink and it was blended perfectly. Extremely tasty and creative drinks are my favorite. I typically don't get drinks (or even really eat out) during the workweek, but I can't recommend the Chai Again enough! Overall the food was very, very good. We first ordered a side of pickles, which were great (I've never had pickled shishito peppers but I loved them). We also got a side of tots which were just okay and kin've bland. Next, a half loaf of bread that came with some of the best butter I've had. We all fought over the luxury of getting to "butter" our bread! Our small plates included the radicchio salad, heirloom tomatoes, squash, and chicken drumsticks. Each small plate was extremely tasty with loads of flavor. The drumsticks were a little dry and a hair overcooked, but still were a creatively seasoned dish. My favorite item of the meal was the Grilled NY Strip. This was one of those steaks where you savor each bite and don't want to eat it to quickly! Cooked to perfection (I like it Medium but our friends preferred Medium-Rare), and salted beautifully, the strip melted in my mouth. I honestly could've killed the whole steak myself (lol)- it was that scrumptious! Definitely the highlight of the dinner! For dessert we chose the Chocolate Pave and the cinnamon rolls. They were thought-out desserts with just the right amount of sweet and savory to finish off our meal. I thought the rolls were better but I enjoyed both. In conclusion, I am always on the look for incredible experiences when I eat. Canon is definitely an "experience" and a great place if you're in a small group. The drinks were fantastic and the food was excellent, especially the steak. Canon is also pretty reasonably priced for a nicer restaurant. I think in terms of value it's a great deal for the ambiance, experience, and quality food. Unfortunately I do have to dock a star due to the strangeness of the service and inconsistency with the small plates and sides. I'd give the ambiance an A+, the food/ drinks a B+, and the strange service a C+. I want to come back and I highly recommend Canon! They just need to fix a few things here and there, but overall I had a great time!

Yelp
Second visit to Canon came on a Friday night a couple weeks ago. Honestly one of the best meals I have had. Service was impeccable and the food blew us away. Favorite dish was the Brussels sprouts. Amazing combination of flavors and textures. I wasn't sure how the kimchi would fit but it worked. The broccoli managed to be crispy and well-cooked while also maintaining an internal crispness/structure. Meatiest broccoli I've tasted. The chicken drumsticks and tots were excellent. There's a reason they're always on the menu. The tortilla española was quite rich and flavorful and presented beautifully. Constructed differently than the usual rendition of the dish, but no complaints. The homemade sourdough was excellent, but the standout of that dish was the cheddar fat butter. How can cheese have fat?? Who's to say, but the cheesy butter paired nicely with the bread. I learned that there's a secret menu hamburger! Can't wait to try that on my next visit. It looked incredible. The sopapillas were fried nicely and soft in the middle. The fromage blanc took the dish to the next level. Ambiance was great. Didn't feel rushed at all. A wonderful meal.

Yelp
Great service and food. The outside seating was warm, comfortable and lent a comfy ambiance to our evening.

Yelp
Visiting family in Sacramento and decided last minute to dine at Canon based on reviews. Upon entry I was ignored by two young female front of the house employees. I gave it a bit but Clearly I was being ignored. After some discussion about if there was a room for three I checked on open table and made a reservation for that exact moment. Service continued to be poor. Having to get up to Ask for water, set ups, basic items that should be on the table or brought with in a reasonable time. Food was not memorable I definitely will not be returning. Give it a try yourself but this yelper does not recommend

Yelp
A real hidden gem. We showed up for a rainy New Year's Eve dinner and were pleasantly surprised that the unassuming exterior gave way to one of the best ambiances I've ever experienced. Our reservation was for the patio, and despite the cold and rain, the vibe inside was warm, intimate, and inviting. The service was excellent from the start. We ordered cocktails and stuck to quick bites and small plates to share, even though the prix fixe New Year's Eve menu looked quite enticing. We started with oysters and tots--two things you can't go wrong with. The oysters were fresh and fun to pair with their unique vinegars, but the tots truly stole the show. Crispy, golden, and perfectly paired with the mole, they were playful yet elevated. I love when fine dining restaurants embrace fun dishes like this without being overly pretentious. Next, we tried the red beet salad (accidentally brought to us instead of another dish), Nantes carrots, honey patch squash, and Brussels sprouts. As a staunch meat-eater, I was shocked to find myself not only ordering but thoroughly enjoying an almost entirely vegetarian meal (besides the tots). The creamy Brussels sprouts were hands-down my favorite dish of the night. While we initially intended to order the roasted cabbage salad, the red beet salad was a happy accident that absolved us of all prior beet bias. Our waitress caught the mix-up and kindly offered to make amends, but we had already dug in and enjoyed the dish too much to mind. For dessert, we couldn't resist the malasadas, which were a perfectly sweet ending. To top it off, our waitress treated us to a complimentary glass of wine, making the experience even more special. I'll 100% be back and can't wait to try more menu items and some of the larger platters. Canon absolutely deserves its Bib Gourmand rating.

Yelp
Oh My God! I'm literally in love with this restaurant! Went for dinner today with a friend and we made a reservation for two. When we got there we were seated and the waitress came to take our orders. The waitress Lauren was more than amazing! So knowledgeable and informed about the menu! She explained everything and her recommendations were just perfect! For the appetizers we got the Tots and the stuffed Naan! They were just so fresh, yummy, just perfect! For the small plates we got the Spring Pea Salad (this was just perfect, so creamy and mouthwatering) Buffalo Potato Wedges, and the Chicken Drumsticks which tasted DIVINE!! For the platters we got the Grilled NY Strip and let me tell you that was so good, so tender it felt like butter! For Dessert we got the Lemon Meringue Pie and another dessert I think it's the Roasted Pineapple but I can't remember exactly, nonetheless, they were just perfect and divine! The interior design was elegant, classy and contemporary.

Yelp
We originally had a patio reservation but added a couple people to our group last minute so we're moved inside and given a prefixed menu which was not much less than the original menu. Everything is served family style which I love because then you can try a little bit of everything. We started with the Baby Artichoke and Potatoes, which was unlike anything I've had before and one of my favorites of the night, and the Spring Pea Salad - also super unique and tasty. The house bread is naan and it was cooked to perfection- crispy in the outside and soft when you bit into it. Next came the Creamed Butter Beans and Whole Fried Fish. Loved these too! The fish has a pozole sauce and had a variety of different textures that went well together. By this point we thought we were done and I was just about full, but because of the prefixed items to choose from, we then had Smoked Whole Chicken, Blistered Carrots and Asparagus dishes all served. I had small bites of each to try them - loved the carrots, passed on the asparagus. Honestly I was so full maybe I would have like them more if they were served first. There's also a great drink menu and huge wine list. We had a couple bottles at the table to accompany the delicious meal. All of the staff were super friendly and attentive. Our group had a great time and enjoyed everything about our time at Layla.

Yelp
Canon's reputation proceeds it as a staple of fine dining in Sacramento. Almost everything we ate and drank was delicious. And our service provided by Kelsea was superb. I enjoyed my cocktail, an aromatic but still bodied, and full whiskey drink with amaro and cherry bitters. We started with tater tots, which themselves were fluffy and warm but slightly overpowered by a monolithic mole that left us wanting richer flavors. The hamachi was refreshing and light. And the duck salad was the real winner, packed with flavor, different textures and really just the gold standard for restaurant salad. Although I devoured the lamb, texturally I think I was surprised. This dish feels pretty darn close to meatloaf but it tastes great. Now, dessert is where this meal went off the rails. We ordered the roasted pineapple with dulce de leche and yogurt. Notice the first red flag: it's served with a steak knife. This honestly tasted like a slab of toasted canned pineapple, the other aforementioned flavors nowhere to be found. This was disappointing. Not her fault at all, Kelsea quickly took it off our bill. Our thought and suggestion was Canon could really nail something like a cookie or brownie or delectable slice of pie (with seasonal fruit) and homemade ice cream that stays on their dessert menu. Alas, I'm not in charge. Dessert aside, Canon's atmosphere is sophisticated, yet relaxed. You'll be taken care of here. I'll look forward to coming again.

Yelp
We came here to celebrate our anniversary. We have never been here and heard good things about Canon. We made reservations in advance. Parking was an issue. There is no restaurant parking lot, it is street parking. That night there was no street parking, either. We drove two blocks away and walked for about 10 mins to the restaurant. Our server explained things about the menu, since we have never been here before. The service was ok to good through our dinner. Our original server was just ok. She wasn't around too much through most of our dinner. But someone else started to help us with our needs. He was great. He started to check on us near the end of our dinner. He filled our glasses, got our boxes, asked us about dessert, and got our check. I'm not sure about the other lady, I saw her around, but didn't pay attention to us. We ordered a variety of dishes to share. The food was pretty good. Unique flavors. It was different. The tots were good, but I not too much into mole. The pork was cooked well. It was nice and tender. We really liked the truffled corn croquettes. The drumsticks were ok, slightly over cooked. I think the prices for the dishes were a little on the high side for being al carte.

The service was great and the staff was so friendly! This charming little slice of heaven is located in east sac close to fitness rangers! The steak and the rolls were my favorite! The steak was melt in your mouth amazing! Also the spicy margarita was great! I can't wait to come back a hundred more times!

Yelp
This was our second time visiting Canon this year, and the our first time on their lovely patio. It was a warm summer day, but cool on the patio with gentle misters. Our server seemed a little less talkative at our table, which didn't bother us too much. We got a lovely bottle of champagne, and ordered our three dishes at the same time- as suggested by the server so they'd come out in correct succession with taste. The albacore was light, beautifully clean and had some sweetness that balanced really well- and the pave was amazing with subtle smokiness- but the corn croquettes with huitlacoche really stole the show. I could eat 20 of those. I can't wait to come back, and love that they change the menu each season so I can enjoy what new recipes they've concocted. Thanks for a lovely time again, Canon.

Yelp
I have been meaning to come here for a long time. My friend has been here like 3 times and recommended it to. SO I booked it for the last place to celebrate our week long Anniversary. The parking is horrible here. It is also next to a gym and I don't see how anyone can find parking to go to either. We parked two blocks away and it was so hot out. They have outdoor dinning and inside. It looked like they also have a cocktail or party area in the front of the entrance. The feel of the place was casual. All the workers were not dressed up at all. We were seated right away in the back near the kitchen. The kitchen was open and you could see inside. Our waitress greeted us and ask what type of water we wanted and if we needed drinks. I asked for Remy but she didn't have that so she sent the bartender to me. I got an Armagnac instead. It was ok. We started out with the tots. They were shaped like cylinders and were ok tasting. I expected a little more from this type of restaurant. It had mole to dip it in. I did like the onions on it so gave it something to it Next we got the truffled corn croquette which was my favorite. The crunch of the corn being fried was nice and good flavor. We had to get the chicken drumsticks which they are known for according to our waitress. They were over cooked and just ok. You got two for 12 bucks. They looked nice but fell short. Our main was the kurobuta pork chop. It was already cut up for us and cooked nicely. It was pretty good and moist. I was kind of full so not to bad. The staff was really nice . I just think there are so many more places around town that offer better food at these prices. I was disappointed and when I told my buddy he was surprised and asked if I tried the beans he told me about but I don't think one dish should make a difference. Oh well on to more food.

Yelp
Amazing restaurant that's best visited with friends as most items are shared! Everything we tried was delicious but some items stood out most! Nan bread and the carrots were highlights of the dinner!

Yelp
We made reservations for four on Saturday. We were seated right away. Service was excellent-prompt, friendly and checked on us without making us feeling rushed. We ordered Naan - served warm was delicious, great by itself or for dipping in the sauce (whole fish). Whole fish was deboned and the sauce was full of flavor. Lamb was shredded and formed into a rectangle topped with pickled carrots. Lamb was enjoyable. Butter Beans were tender and melts in your mouth. Asparagus was nicely seasoned with black beans. All the dishes were incredibly delicious. The interior can get noisy, making hard to have a conversation.

Yelp
We tried this place for the first time last night and it exceeded our expectations. I tried the red cap cocktail and the sassenach cocktail and both were good. We got the tots and chicken drumsticks as appetizers and the chicken drumsticks were the best I've ever had. The tots had mole so it was interesting to try and the tots were perfectly cooked. We sit the NY strip and we loved that as well. The service was really fast and friendly and since we were there for our anniversary they brought us out a free chocolate cashew cheesecake. The cheesecake had a passionfruit center and it was probably the best cheesecake I've had. It's also nice inside but it doesn't feel like you have to dress super formal. I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
Thanksgiving Take & Bake: We were fortunate to have preordered this feast this year (I tore my Achilles and couldn't spend the day on my feet in the kitchen). Canon provided everything necessary for a fine-dining meal at home. The step by step instructions for each dish were clear and simple to follow. The brined turkey cooked up with beautiful brown and crispy skin. The meat was juicy and delicious, and the kitchen smelled amazing because of the included aromatics. The sides were packaged in ready to bake containers, which made preparation so easy. The turkey dressing was rich and savory. The twice baked potatoes were creamy and embedded with halved fingerling roasted potatoes. The Brussels sprouts with bacon marmalade and balsamic onions roasted to crispy goodness and had tons of flavor. The squash didn't look like much to begin with, but after cooking and garnishing with feta, chimichurri, and candied pumpkin seeds ended up as a standout dish that we will be thinking about long after. I don't know if the pumpkin pie had cream cheese in it or not, but I got the impression that it did, and it had lovely spices and texture. Canon also provided rolls, plenty of gravy and cranberry sauce, and condiments and garnishes. The only thing we added ourselves was some fresh whipped cream for the pie. This was by far the easiest and most delicious Thanksgiving ever. If you get an e-mail from Canon offering the opportunity to buy the Thanksgiving take and bake, smash that "buy now" button and you'll be happy you did.

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of fancy dining because I don't think I get the bang I like for the buck I have to spend. Cannon was well worth every penny we spent. Really creative menus items. Excellent service. Amazing drinks. They have small plates and large platters, you get a few of the first and one of the second and you'll be fine with a table of four. Their bartender is a mixologist, and he features perhaps 12 drinks that are truly outstanding. Our table had a good view and I watched him spend about five minutes per drink working his magic. The food was amazing. Even mundane things like oysters came out with an interesting twist like special sauces in large dropper bottles. Excellent spot for a unique experience. Be ready to drop about $100 each.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic food & refreshing cocktails. Lovely atmosphere. And stellar service from everyone, including the owner Clay. We dined here for Christmas Eve dinner and couldn't be happier. My favorite dishes were the BBQ cauliflower (hands down the best cauliflower I've ever tasted), the Hamachi, and the sopapillas (a dessert to die for). Since we're new in town, Clay (the owner) gave us a list of his favorite restaurants to try, which was a really kind gesture. Highly highly recommend!

Yelp
Delicious interesting food prepared perfectly. High quality ingredients combined with unique spice combinations makes for one of the more interesting dining experiences I've had in the Sacramento area. Every dish we had was bursting with flavor. The outdoor patio area was, covered, warm and cozy even in the middle of a rain storm. Service was speedy and helpful. This is a perfect date night spot. We loved everything we had but the rabbit confit salad was a real standout. The photos do not do this delicious dish justice.

Yelp
I wish I took more and better pictures during our visit, but it was so overwhelmingly great that I'm glad I was being present. I've been here multiple times, every single time the food is breathtaking, but this time specifically was a very good experience. The hamachi was my favorite this time, and the friend chicken was delicious. My suggestions: -eat on the patio -share an entree with someone, and then order oysters and small plates. -ask if they have anything else that is not on the menu -order a dessert, maybe with a coffee or dessert wine This is even a good place for just oysters and drinks if that's what you are craving. Their homemade vinegar tinctures are soooo unique and yummy. The times that I've been here I've tasted everyone's desserts. Things I would never order myself.. every single one has been eyes-roll-back-in-your-head-delicious. Especially the apple pie with a sip of cappuccino. The menu is constantly changing.

Yelp
I was so excited to try this spot- being a foodie - and knowing this spot is on the up n up - HOWEVER- greatly disappointed But first. Did enjoy 8 oysters - which were delicious- I loved the handmade vinegar shrub like in experience The lovely n delicious molasses bread - Mussels n avocado- a very interesting combination- surprisingly nostalgic- a BBQ chip & chili kind of vibe Unfortunately my last two dishes were very disappointing To begin both were different then on the menu - but this wasn't explained or announced beforehand My carrots were soggy - with an undercooked rice when I was expecting carrots & honey with chili The lamb was suppose to be served with goat cheese and polenta & instead it was served salty with brocolini. The last two plates reminded me of eating at my grandpas retirement home. Really a let down after the starters ... Good try Canon. I hope you improve

Yelp
The sourdough bread loaf was served fresh with some of the most amazing accompanying butter that made it taste a bit like those sour cream & onion lays (but much better); the drumsticks were awesome - they'd literally fall off the bone and the condiments were super tasty; and the pork chop was super juicy for such a large cut, and the accompanying spaetzel was delicious as well. Friendly, prompt service. Lovely, intimate dining room. It wasn't that busy when we went on a Monday night

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. But my overall review is that Canon did not live up to the Michelin Guide review as Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking. As a matter of fact, it was on the lower quality for food and mediocre for service. I agree with the lower star reviews already on here. The service was slow, it took forever to get food out, when they did come it was cold, steak was supposed to be med rare but it was so rare we had to send it back, pork chop & swordfish were dry, and the waitress would disappear a lot. The best things were the drinks, sourdough bread (per my friends' report cause I didn't eat any), and the butternut squash. Yes ambiance was nice but food quality and customer service is more important to me. I would not pay this much for the low quality again.

Yelp
Really wanted to love this restaurant but wasn't as amazing as we hoped. Service was fine, atmosphere was elevated barn vibe. Food was lacking something. Maybe it was the night we were there but really hoped for more.

Yelp
What a place! I loved the ambiance of the restaurant and the staff was wonderful. My favorite dish was probably the hamachi or the loaf with the cheddar fat butter. It seems simple but the butter was just rich and fatty, which (unfortunately) made it taste so good because I ate so much of it. It honestly made it taste like a fancy sour cream and onion chip, but better than I'm making it sound. The hamachi was just so yummy, barely a fishy taste and a wonderful light citrus flavor. Everything else was good but just not my favorite!
