Canterbury Cathedral Lodge

"How did it strike you on arrival?Welcoming. The hotel is built on the Cathedral grounds and you can see the magnificent building from most rooms, which give the place a historic feel. Though of course it's far from historic and obviously contemporary, despite being built from local stone and timber to reflect its neighbour. Nice. What’s the crowd like? There was a company conference going on when I was here, and apparently a wedding scheduled for the following day - it hosts many of both. But there were plenty of happy tourists here eager to stay near Canterbury's main attraction as a badge of honour – you get access to the Cathedral included in the price of the room. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The views of the Cathedral and the sound of the bells are the most memorable things about the room. But there is enough space to feel comfortable in the rooms, which are elegant and restrained. The furnishings are all pale wood, the colours sage greens and blues. Plus, seats in the bay windows are a nice touch. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?King size bed, King size sleep. Lots of pillows and non-scratchy sheets. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? There's generous tea and coffee provided in-room and water, nothing I'd rave about to a friend though. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The shower is strong and the water hot. Toiletries are plentiful and towels big enough to fully wrap yourself up in. Best of all the toilet seat wasn't cold to sit on, even in winter. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free Wi-Fi, strong enough. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?Considering the Lodge is owned by the Cathedral, the staff are as professional, friendly and eager to help. They all deserve a pat on the back. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The breakfast is fantastic. Think the usual spread of pastries, juices, fruits, cereals and yogurts plus full English breakfasts featuring fat Kentish sausages, black pudding and yummy eggs and kippers. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Waking up to the sound of the epic Cathedral bells. That and the breakfasts. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Worth the money by a country mile and the best hotel to stay in Canterbury." - Ramsay Short

Canterbury Cathedral Lodge | Best places to stay in Canterbury

"If you’re coming to Canterbury for the Cathedral, there’s surely no better place to stay. Built in the grounds of the city’s world-famous cathedral, this sleek hotel has bedrooms that look straight onto the imposing facades.  Rooms feel a touch corporate, but the garden is a joy, as is the Refectory Terrace, where hearty breakfasts and optional evening meals are taken.  This isn’t the place to stay if you’re looking for buzz – many guests staying have business at the cathedral, but for a few days of quiet contemplation, it’s perfect.  " - Annabelle Thorpe

Its all dressed up for Christmas in Canterbury|Room was comfortable with a comfy window seat to look out on gardens and the towers of the cathedral. Great bathroom with hot water and Washcloths which we haven't seen anywhere else. The room was welcoming and clean. The access to the close and free to go to cathedrals. |Very nice staff and servers. Breakfast was tasty and varied.

Our room was in the attached Annexe building right at the top (3 flights of stairs) but as we had paid such a great price for a one night stay it wasn’t a problem at all. The room was spacious, clean and warm with tea/coffee facilities etc. lovely bathroom with powerful shower and the usual toiletries. |We absolutely loved chatting with the Night Manager Tom who regaled us with some amazing 🤩 tales- a true credit to the Hotel. |The breakfast was superb- so much choice beautifully cooked and the staff were so pleasant and efficient. |We were lucky enough to secure a car park space in the grounds which made the stay even more perfect. The Christmas Market on the grounds added to the Magic. It was surreal being able to walk around the Cathedral grounds when closed to the public. As a Hotel guest entry to the Cathedral is free saving £18 per person. |Would stay nowhere else if I came back to Canterbury. Thank you all for a wonderful stay.

A wonderful stay! Our room was lovely with a beautiful view of the Cathedral. Staff were very helpful allowing us to celebrate our mum's 80th birthday in the lounge area. The breakfast was fabulous. We will be back & will recommend to friends.

Our stay at this unique lodge in the precincts of Canterbury Cathedral was wonderful. The room was very comfortable, clean and well presented, with fantastic views of the Cathedral. The breakfast was so tasty and the selection on offer had something for everyone’s taste. The staff were so welcoming and helpful with their information about this beautiful historic city. Can highly recommend.

This is definitely the place to stay in Canterbury if you want proximity to the cathedral! ||We had a view of the cathedral tower from our room, somewhat obscured by the tree in the garden. The room was compact but seemed efficient, although the wall lamp above my side of the bed didn't work at first (there were enough light switches that it took a while to figure out that none of them turned it on). The light was fixed by the next day. There’s a power panel above the desk with four outlets and four USB ports, so we were in good shape for charging electronics.||The breakfast room is a little on the small side, so we were given a time that we were to be there for breakfast. Tea, coffee, juice, porridge, cereal, and continental-style items came quickly, but most of the breakfast service was egg dishes cooked to order. On our first morning, we weren't sure our eggs Benedict and eggs royale were going to be delivered in time, since we had an appointment to get to and the service seemed slow. It did seem like our order had gotten lost. On subsequent days, we did not have this problem, so perhaps it was just a one-time glitch in the kitchen.||My main quibble is that the bathroom, while quite efficient, was just a little bit too small. It was awkward to reach for a towel from the shower. On the positive side, the heated towel warmer was wonderful.

What a wonderful hotel, the rooms are rather basic but the staff are the best I've come across and really make you feel welcomed. And what a view - magnificent. Will definitely go again.

Yelp
Really nice and quiet hotel within the Cathedral grounds. An absolutely privileged situation with private parking and seminar facilities. The hotel is of modern construction and the comfortable rooms all have on suit shower rooms, tv's, tea, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. All rooms apparently have a view of the Cathedral. The hotel does not serve dinner. Breakfast has been ok: service a bit slow if you order "English Breakfast", quantities of tea and coffee have been the best I have ever seen in a hotel. Service is friendly and courteous, both at breakfast and at the reception. Recommended!
