Canterbury Cathedral Lodge

"How did it strike you on arrival?Welcoming. The hotel is built on the Cathedral grounds and you can see the magnificent building from most rooms, which give the place a historic feel. Though of course it's far from historic and obviously contemporary, despite being built from local stone and timber to reflect its neighbour. Nice. What’s the crowd like? There was a company conference going on when I was here, and apparently a wedding scheduled for the following day - it hosts many of both. But there were plenty of happy tourists here eager to stay near Canterbury's main attraction as a badge of honour – you get access to the Cathedral included in the price of the room. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. The views of the Cathedral and the sound of the bells are the most memorable things about the room. But there is enough space to feel comfortable in the rooms, which are elegant and restrained. The furnishings are all pale wood, the colours sage greens and blues. Plus, seats in the bay windows are a nice touch. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?King size bed, King size sleep. Lots of pillows and non-scratchy sheets. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? There's generous tea and coffee provided in-room and water, nothing I'd rave about to a friend though. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The shower is strong and the water hot. Toiletries are plentiful and towels big enough to fully wrap yourself up in. Best of all the toilet seat wasn't cold to sit on, even in winter. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Free Wi-Fi, strong enough. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?Considering the Lodge is owned by the Cathedral, the staff are as professional, friendly and eager to help. They all deserve a pat on the back. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.The breakfast is fantastic. Think the usual spread of pastries, juices, fruits, cereals and yogurts plus full English breakfasts featuring fat Kentish sausages, black pudding and yummy eggs and kippers. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?Waking up to the sound of the epic Cathedral bells. That and the breakfasts. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Worth the money by a country mile and the best hotel to stay in Canterbury." - Ramsay Short

The Canterbury Cathedral Lodge is my favorite place to stay in England! It is an excellent value with clean, comfortable rooms. Breakfast is outstanding. Not only are there a variety of delicious foods on the menu, but the dining room service is courteous and efficient. Staying right on the cathedral grounds is a treat, and cathedral admission is included in the price of your stay at the lodge.|During my most recent visit (June 2025), I was traveling with family and my brother experienced a medical situation during our stay. The Cathedral Lodge staff were extremely understanding and helpful to us. We were very grateful to them.|I highly recommend staying here if you are planning a visit to Canterbury!

Excellent location within grounds. Parking provided at hotel with excellent directions on how to drive to hotel through centre of Canterbury. Room was small as to be expected for conference/study centre but well equipped and clean. View of cathedral from room could not be surpassed. Nice breakfast and served by attentative staff, as were those in reception. Free repeatable entrance to cathedral is a bonus with ability to revisit to see points missed on first visit. Plenty of good pubs and restaurants in easy walking distance.

This modern hotel is located on the grounds of the Cathedral and includes visitor access to the Cathedral. It made it so easy to tour the Cathedral once, and then go back for a couple of the Cathedral's "mini-tours" and for the Evensong choral service.|Outside the gates, it's easy to walk to everything in the historic center of town. Even the train station was only about a 15-minute walk, even tugging along our rollie bags.||Breakfast (served, not a buffet) offers a nice variety from simple porridge to eggs benedict.||The staff was friendly and helpful.

Let’s face it: you came to Canterbury to see the cathedral. How about a perfectly lovely hotel within the grounds that allows you to come and go at no extra charge before and after all those tourists spending £19 to go in exactly once? Here’s your chance. Having the cathedral all to yourself first thing in the morning is a transformative experience. ||Yes, the rooms and public areas are small, but everything is elegantly appointed, the staff friendly and helpful, and the eggs Benedict in the included breakfast possibly the best you will ever have. Ordering orange juice that proves to be fresh-squeezed is simply another sign of their commitment to quality. ||Most rooms have views of the cathedral over a compelling garden whose gravel could benefit from a raking lesson from a Japanese master. I can think of no other criticism. Book well ahead because the 34 rooms understandably go fast at the very fair rate.

We have stayed here a few times now and it cannot be beaten if you are staying in Canterbury.||Very secure as there are patrols constantly walking around the grounds and there is free disabled parking. Room 205 overlooks the Cathedral which is magnificent.||All the staff are lovely and friendly and very helpful- the breakfast is very good- try the vegan -exceptional- and there is a full range to suit all needs.||The rooms are kept spotless- as is all of the Hotel- and you get free entrance to the Cathedral for the duration of your stay- together with 10% at the Cathedral store- with discounts arranged with local restaurants.||All in all an exceptional Hotel.

What a great location right in the middle of the City. It was a wonderful short stay. Staff are friendly and helpful. The views are amazing. So convenient. Was a treat really as I'm relatively local, but always wanted to stay here when in Canterbury. I will 100% recommend to family and friends who visit.

If you intend to stay in Canterbury I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.||You have a view of the Cathedral from your room which is spectacular!||The Hotel is located within the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral. You’re staying in the centre of the city but without any traffic noise. You have access to this area after the public leave.||The food is good, or the breakfast which is all we had.|If you bring a vehicle you park it within the grounds so there is no risk to it.||The only downside is that the rooms are a little basic. Also no bar ( but there are more than enough pubs to choose from in Canterbury. )||Overall a great place to stay.

I have been here as a photographer and musician on different occasions and it has been a brilliant experience throughout! It’s a great place to get ready and also to celebrate a wedding or hold a corporate event. The view is outstanding.

Yelp
Really enjoyed our stay here. Lodging was quiet, beds comfortable, fans in all rooms (it was hot when we were there, easy access to railroad, inside Cathedral grounds.

Yelp
Really nice and quiet hotel within the Cathedral grounds. An absolutely privileged situation with private parking and seminar facilities. The hotel is of modern construction and the comfortable rooms all have on suit shower rooms, tv's, tea, hair dryer, iron and ironing board. All rooms apparently have a view of the Cathedral. The hotel does not serve dinner. Breakfast has been ok: service a bit slow if you order "English Breakfast", quantities of tea and coffee have been the best I have ever seen in a hotel. Service is friendly and courteous, both at breakfast and at the reception. Recommended!
