"Carlos Gaytán knew critical success at his former West Town restaurant Mexique, where in 2013 he became the first Mexico-born chef to earn a Michelin star. But after he closed it in May 2018, Gaytán vowed to return to the Chicago restaurant world with a bigger and better project. The result of that promise is his River North triple threat: a la carte restaurant Tzuco, joined by the first U.S. location of all-day bakery Panango and, soon, his tasting menu room, Tales of Carlos Gaytán. The chef refers to his new business complex as “Mexique on steroids.”" - Daniel Gerzina

Cantina Laredo sets a high standard for quality Mexican food at a reasonable price. We went here on valentine's day, without a reservation, when we thought every restaurant in the city would be fully booked. They seated us immediately, and the experience was flawless. The portions are balanced so that even through multiple courses I was satisfied but not too full. The drinks were great as well. I recommend the tuna tacos as an appetizer, and the al pastor fajitas for the main course. For dessert, we shared a wonderful mango tres leches cake. I foresee myself returning to this restaurant whenever I'm craving good Mexican food.

Perfect fine dine experience. It was like best of all world coz you get to it Mexican food in a fine dine restaurant. Food and service both were great and so was the ambiance. The place is worth your time and money

GREAT EXPERIENCE! Our waiter was beyond friendly and did everything he could to make sure we were satisfied. He knew the menu very well and made great recommendations. He even cut the cake (we were allowed to bring in) for my friends birthday. The food was spectacular and the table side guac was fresh and tasty. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this place. New favorite Mexican spot!

The food is okay...had better Mexican cuisine. Very nice atmosphere and decor. Excellent service. They make fresh guacamole right by your table and it was too acidic. They made a better one upon request. The tacos were good.

Ambience is good, service was great but I honestly did not like the margarita, not much tequila in there, and tacos weren't that tasty... My wife and I agree on that. Tamales were great.

I wish I could give them 2.5 starts; this is an upscale, huge, well decorated Mexican place, not to pricey so looks like a win win; but no. We had a reservation for 12 ppl, and got there like 10min early (we were two), they sat us but didn't offer water, I wanted to order a cocktail but nobody checked on us, had to go and ask the host, "you know where's our server?" Finally our server came, we ordered the drinks and then our party arrived. Almost everyone ordered drinks. Two friends of mine ordered the same drink, one virgin and one regular... both came without alcohol, we told that to the server, she took the drink and came back in like 2min, with the same drink. We guessed the bartender just poured alcohol into the drink and that's all, I mean really? It was a elaborated cocktail the right thing to do was to make a new one, or at least really try to fix that one, not have the server mix the drink with the straw on her way to the table. I had Empanadas and Ceviche (tapas section)... the empanadas were ok, the ceviche was below average, I don't think the fish was fresh enough. Also had a bit of the chicken tacos, it was good. Anyway the food was nothing special (according to all my friends) so I won't say it's bad (except for the ceviche). But the service was awful, the server never came to check on us, my glass of water was empty for a while, until the end of the night when we asked for the check and more water. I don't see myself going back or recommending this place. Just a "pretty decoration" is not enough.

Really enjoyed this place. Mexican food with a twist. The food was alright, the the chicken had zero flavor. Need more seasoning. The seating is comfortable and the decor is really nice.

My wife and I absolutely loved this place! The decor is awesome with perfect table lighting. Chips and two salsas to start: 1 warm and a little spicy, the other cool and mild. Then we ordered a couple of tasty Margaritas. My wife's was very strong but that's not a problem. For an appetizer we got the ceviche. Interesting presentation but very flavorful and a good size. Then for dinner we got barbacoa and carnitas tacos, respectively. The barbacoa tacos were delicious but the carnjtas tacos were the best I have ever had! The Chipotle wine sauce they use just made the flavor burst in my mouth. Highly recommend getting them. Lastly, when we didn't have any room decided to still order some flan. It was very moist and tasted good, thus meeting my expectations. Overall it was a fantastic experience with amazing food and the prices weren't bad either. Definitely a gem!
