3 Places to Try in Seattle This Weekend - Eater Seattle

"The Central District’s new noodle house is bustling. It’s an excellent addition to the neighborhood, with bold flavors wielded expertly in dishes like roast duck crispy rolls with sambal hoisin, papaya salad (get the pork belly version), caramelized pork fresh rolls with Hanoi fish sauce, curry vermicelli bowl, and noodles from the wok. Nothing about this place feels particularly reckless, just plain dialed in — ditto the original cocktails." - Megan Hill

Wow, really great food here. Everything super delicious! Wish I had tried it sooner in fact. Perfectly cooked and presented. The egg noodles were a standout, cooked to a nice al dente. We got two soups, the wonton/brisket with thick egg noodles and the wonton/fish ball with rice noodles, planning on trying more different things next time. They also have Chinese donut which is great for dipping in your soup!

Google
A small mom and pop Chinese noodle place. The noodle broth was very good. It’s perfectly spicy with a little of that classic numbing spice. I love how much protein they give. Definitely worth the price for the amount we get. The friend calamari is amazing too. Freshly fried, a good appetizer. If you’ve ever had mikes noodle house, this is on par with the dish and slightly cheaper with easier parking. I’d pick this over mikes any day

Google
Do NOT order the “pork in spicy hot sauce” dish. It was overly sweet and tasted like the sauce was ketchup mixed with a drop of siracha. The noodles were undercooked. However, I was able to salvage the unsauced noodles by mixing them with the chili oil they place on each table. The chili oil was spicy, tangy, and surprisingly sat very nicely on the thin noodles. If it had not been for the chili oil, I would’ve given this place 2 stars. My friends ordered the fried chicken, spicy clay pot noodles, and regular noodles. They enjoyed their meal. They had many compliments for the spam and tofu skin in each soup. Next time, I will stick with the clay pot noodles and not venture outside of their specialty.

Google
This spot is a gem. It’s clean and calm inside. Great wonton noodle soup. The broth is rich and full of depth while still feeling light. hand-wrapped wontons have the perfect bite, and the veggies are fresh.

Google
A wonderful surprise, first time eating but won’t be the last. The broth was flavorful brisket wasn’t dry at all compared to many other places. Complementary tea and fantastic service. They were also able to accommodate a pork allergy :) Thanks for the meal!

Google
The braised beef wonton noodle soup was delicious! The price is more than fair, the portions are huge and the service was excellent and went above and beyond. Could not recommend coming here more!

Google
Love this place! It’s my favorite comfort noodle food. Highly recommend!

Google
Authentic Cantonese noodle and wonton soups. The soups come in regular (small) and large bowls. The fish balls were so chewy and bouncy - loved them. The roast duck was also really good - tender and juicy, if only the skin can be crispier. Overall a solid 4.5 out of 5 for the food and services.

Yelp
Yet another place I've never been to despite living in this city my whole life... until now. This place shares parking with places like Ding Feng and Happy Lemon. As most likely stated in other reviews, make sure your parking is near-perfect in this strict rule-enforced area or you will get ticketed. Passing that, the place feels somewhat intimate and homely, with the feel of the tables and chairs resembling most Chinese restaurants in Chinatown and bright incandescent lights above the tables. You get a menu and servers take your order. There's a ton of noodle soups here but they also serve congee, salt and pepper dishes, claypot dishes and other things. Before going on, I've personally had less-than-great experiences eating wonton noodle soups, in particular at one place that everyone seems to like and rave about in Seattle's Chinatown... having said that, I got the wonton and beef brisket noodle soup through my friend's recommendation, and man it was really good especially when you add in chili oil! Soup was fresh, wontons were perfect and the noodles didn't over- or underpower the soup like it does for other places I've had wonton noodle soups at. Beef briskets were tender and flavored well. This might become a place I'll recommend to anyone wanting to visit Seattle! It's that delicious!

Yelp
Best wonton noodle place in Seattle. Food: Wonton noodle: 5/5 everything was juicy and the size of the wonton was perfect Shui gao noodle: 5/5 if you like that mushroom taste, you will like this more than the wontons. Not many places have this Beef brisket noodle 5/5: very tasty beef, the beef was super tender. Fried chicken: 10/5 this place is known for their noodles but let you tell you about their fried chicken. It's sooooo juicy and crispy. And the taste is next to none. I always have to get an order of their fried chicken here. Service: decent, don't have anything bad to say about it

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp as my husband was looking for a place with some authentic congee. Came on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly busy. I ordered the clay pot, spicy, with beef brisket and rice noodles. We ordered our kids the dumpling and beef brisket noodle soup, and the mister ordered chicken congee with a side of Chinese donuts. We also ordered the steamed veggies with oyster sauce (Chinese broccoli). I love spicy and my spicy clay pot was spicy for sure. I didn't expect it to be that spicy but it was very flavorful and the amount of items in it was a lot. My kids wonton and beef brisket noodle soup was way too salty to be honest. A lot of noodles in it and not much other stuff. Hubby's chicken congee was delicious. My kids wanted more Chinese donut so we ordered another extra side of that. Total was $80ish with tip which was rather pricey in my opinion. We left half the wonton and beef brisket soup as the kids didn't want it. I'd come back for the congee and clay pot but probably not the noodle soup dishes.

Yelp
Comforting, classic mom and pop restaurant that you shouldn't pass on! We stopped by for a low key brunch. Dishes were very well seasoned and prepared, with nice portions and reasonable prices. Service was great, too. Conveniently located in a plaza with plenty of parking, and other small businesses like an Asian grocery store and bakery.

Yelp
If you're looking for some hearty noodle soup, this is the place to go to. Besides noodle soups, the menu also features dishes with dry noodles with a cup of soup on the side. It's a nice and simple restaurant without the fuss. Service is straightforward and easy.

Yelp
Cute mom & pop sort of restaurant. I ordered the wonton & sui-kau noodles with thin noodle. I thought the serving was very filling and it came with so many wontons and sui-kau. Honestly I wasn't super sure of the difference between the two dumplings. One kind of dumpling had shrimp and pork and a silkier wrapper, and the other was pork only with wood ear mushroom and a different wrapper. The soup was a little salty for me but otherwise delicious. We also got the crispy fried wontons (8). It was freshly fried and piping hot. I think these were ok. It came with a sweet chili dipping sauce.

Yelp
Have you ever just ended a long weekend of drinking and sat there hoping for a piping hot bowl of wonton noodle soup??? Because that's me, ALWAYS. This is the spot. I'm usually a purest and only want wonton, noodles, and soup. But I have to say, their wonton noodles soup with brisket and tendon is *chefs kiss* you get all the textures, flavors, and savory notes. Service was quick and easy and the seating is no frills. Just how I like it. Get the wonton noodle soup with beef brisket AND beef tendon I love thin noodles, but next time I might get a mix of thick and thin noodles. Make your mix of chili, soy sauce, and vinegar on the side and you're in for a treat! I want to come back to try their roast meat and fried chicken!! Must be good
google avatar

Yelp
Everything is super tasty. Wonton Noodle Soup is my favorite and the fried chicken is soooooo crunchy!
google avatar

Yelp
I think this review would've been 4 stars if I had just gotten the brisket, wonton noodle soup. While the broth was a bit one note and bland, it was a solid bowl. The egg rolls were one of the worst egg rolls I've ever had. In fact, I've had better egg rolls at Panda Express. The fried chicken wings were fine but I wouldn't get those again.

Yelp
Definitely a hole in the wall type of restaurant. In the best way possible. We came here on a Saturday evening and our party of 6 got seated right away. Our server was really nice and we got our waters filled quickly. I ordered the wonton and brisket soup and it was great. Super flavorful broth and the brisket was very tender. Would definitely come back again.

Yelp
Spicy beef soup was hot, lip numbing flavors and hot temperature just like my grandma used to make. The service is nice, friendly, answered all of my questions and helped me decide my order. Simple, walk-in atmosphere. Nothing fancy. It's how I like my noodle soup shops. Definite stop when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Yummy food and generous portions! We came to this place around noon on a Sunday. We ordered claypot spicy beef rice noodle, wonton Sui-Kau Noodle soup, and Salt Pepper fried chicken. All tatses pretty good and homey! I'd recommend trying the claypot noodle if you want to try something more flavorful beyond the general canton dishes. It comes in different soup options: spicy, tomato, golden hot and sour etc. and it has loads of toppings including fish balls, beef balls, corns, ham, greens, etc. The service is very nice.

Yelp
Don't judge a book by its cover! This little Rainier Valley gem is a must-visit! THE ROSES: Easy to find and ample parking. Pleasant staff. Very clean. The cuisine is authentic Chinese; no 'American-Chinese', so no 'General Tso's' this or any other Panda Express abomination - this is the Real Deal. Excellent noodle soups and rice dishes. Reasonable prices and generous portions. THE THORNS: The neighborhood is a bit on the sketchy side, with a number of vagrants and drug zombies shuffling about. The merchants in this strip mall seem to do a good job of keeping them moving, though - but be sure to lock your car: I saw one vagrant peering in windows (looking for 'smash and grab' possibilities?). NEITHER ROSE NOR THORN: When I came in and saw I was the only white person in the place, I knew the food was going to be authentic and really good - and I was not wrong! CNH caters to discriminating diners who know what they want and appreciate quality Chinese cuisine! THE VERDICT: Canton Noodle House is a place you go when you're SERIOUS about great Chinese soups and noodle dishes. It's not a hipster, 'see and be seen' kind of place. No frills, just excellent cuisine. Very highly recommend for dine-in or take-out. By all means get in here!

Yelp
Great noodle place. Basic Menu but good food and reasonably priced. Easy parking in the area

Yelp
Our first Cantonese food/noodle joint on our Seattle adventure. 4.5 stars for flavor, 3 stars for value, and 3.5 stars for portion size.....so that averages out to 4. We stopped at 3 of the top Cantonese-style noodle houses in Seattle and ordered beef brisket and wonton noodle soup (it's like a go-to dish at these simple Chinese diners) at each place. Finding ourselves in South Seattle, this shop was convenient. It was pricier than the places in International District which was surprising since you'd think rent would've been less. The noodle was spot-on though a bit skimpy for the large bowl. A total of 9 large won ton/ siu kau came with the large bowl, and 8-9 pieces of beef brisket were in the large bowl of noodle soup. The beef brisket was lean and lacked deep flavor. The noodle soups were good, not great and we were still hungry afterwards, so not a good value. The mall where this diner was located is looking run down and uninviting. If you're in the area, and hankering chinese noodle soup, maybe stop by, but not my first choice in Seattle.

Yelp
I am writing this review after trying the same noodle bowls at multiple noodle restaurants in the Seattle area. I tried a large bowl of wonton & sui kau noodle soup and a large bowl of beef brisket noodle soup. Let me first say that both broths were super tasty. The wonton broth was strong in seafood flavor. Broth flavor is definitely their strength. In fact, their broth was the best amongst all the noodle houses I visited. I got 3 wontons and 2 sui kaus. I still don't know the difference between sui kau and wonton. I think sui kau is really slightly larger than wonton but they are the same thing. The sim kau at this place is just slightly larger than wonton. Other than that they have the same filling and taste the same as wonton. And for that reasons I don't think it was worth extra for sui kau. However I visited another restaurant in Seattle, their sui kaus were much larger than wontons. Also their sui kaus had extra fillings like real chinese mushrooms. So I would suggest skipping the sui kau and stick with plain wontons. You save $2.25 and they may give you more wontons. As for the beef brisket, they were tender and flavor was right on. Both bowls come with chinese brocolli which was a good touch. The noodle was great but I won't say that there was that much even for large bowl. I hate to imagine how little you get for regular bowl. You know how you get this feeling as you are slurping down these delicious noodle and the noodle just keep growing? Well you won't get that feeling here. The pricing is also highest amongst the noodle houses I did my comparision. And for the higher pricing and lack of noodle, I knocked down 2 stars.

Yelp
Wasn't feeling well and needed some congee. Got the chicken congee and Chinese salted doughnuts. It was exactly what I needed. The congee was perfect and had lots of ginger in it. I ordered from UberEats and it still arrived piping hot.
google avatar

Brenda C.

Yelp
Great quality, beef brisket was super tender and broth was delicious. Scarfed it down before I remembered to take a picture for a review lol
google avatar

Clint W.

Yelp
It's simple food and it's a pretty solid for what you ask for. It's noods, plain and simple. Not fancy or mind numbing, but it can hit the spot when the mood strikes you.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
Ultimate comfort food spot. I had the wonton noodle soup and my friend had the roast duck noodle soup with thin noodles. Both were flavorful without being overly salty. Decently priced for the portions as well. We also had fried chicken wings which were well-crisped and juicy. I can't wait to return to try their congee and claypot noodles.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been going to the restaurant over 10 years since their last location in ID. Unfortunately the original owners sold the business and now with new management, the food doesn't taste the same not to mention ridiculous portions. It's too bad we lost one of the hidden gem Chinese restaurant and I will not be going there again.
google avatar

Ricky S.

Yelp
This hidden gem always delivers! It has been my first stop everytime I visiit Seattle. The broth delivers so much flavor and the wontons are amazing. Thank you so much for preparing delicious noodles. Thank you for the nice and friendly family who runs this place. See you next year.
google avatar

Dane W.

Yelp
Simple and straightforward Cantonese food. I come here for the wonton soup mainly. I was going to give it a four-star rating as it lacks a little bit in ambiance but then they added waffle fries to the menu so five it is!

Stan F.

Yelp
Food is outrageous! Noodles and wonton cooked/ made perfectly! The broth is to die for!
google avatar

Philicia S.

Yelp
I still come here regularly and love the food here. It's comfort for me, love their congee, wontons, egg noodles and rice noodles. As well as the Chinese donuts still! Prices have gone up and it's completely reasonable, please don't complain about prices, feel free to make your own noodle soup at home for $15 or less. I mean McDonald's sells $2.xx mcdoubles....it's across the street....so.... I'm happy to pay any price, i actually cook a lot so I know how much prep work goes into preparing food, I work in the industry from the front to the back for almost 20 years, I respect the work that goes into running these restaurants. There's so many moving parts to it rather than just a $15-20 bowl, there's the preparation, the meat cost, ingredients, labor, insurance, the cleaning, the setting up, closing down, etc. It's en endless cycle. Anywho...I appreciate you guys and all the other restaurants, love the food here and friendly service all the time! See you guys soon!

Yelp
This review occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic and is for in-house dining. This is located in an unassuming strip mall next to a laundromat. It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall mom and pop kind of place. Definitely not glamorous. Social distancing is enforced and masks are required. The noodles came out quickly after ordering, and are absolutely scrumptious. This is homey Chinese wonton noodles. Definitely MSG. Definitely reminds me of my childhood. Definitely bringing my parents here when they come to visit. Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Wendy K.

Yelp
I haven't been here since they were in the ID. It's nice to have in this neighborhood I grew up in my dad still leaves close and it's nice to have this option since the majority of noodle houses in the area are pho. We dined in one if the first places we done in a long time. It wasn't busy inside so we felt comfortable and tables seating is well placed and clean. Service was friendly. Dad and I both had the Sui-Kao Beef Brisket Noodle soup. The bowl was deep and chock full of sui-kao and brisket I also enjoyed the vegetable in the dish think it ws Chinese Broccoli. Broth was deep with flavor. Will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu.
google avatar

Ian P.

Yelp
The congee is unreal, best fish congee I've had. Love the soup as well, simple (in a good way) and extremely comforting. Great great great southend spot.
google avatar

P N.

Yelp
Delicious wontons!!! The big wontons (sui kau) are delicious too!! Broth is clear and flavorful. The fish congee is so good!!! Friendly service and food comes quickly. Definitely returning!!!
google avatar

Kai B.

Yelp
It was so good omg definitely need to go again. Fast to order and the food was done super fast.
google avatar

Jennifer R.

Yelp
Same place different owners.. Flavor of noodles and brisket changed drastically with new spices added. Really tasty but not much for my taste buds. I like the plain flavor they had before with the previous owners, but change happens and in this case it's acceptable.
google avatar

BrittanyDanyelle R.

Yelp
We stopped in after being locked away in our home for a few days due to the snow and ice storm that happened at the end of the year. It was some much needed warmth to our souls. The broth is tasty, the wontons are good and the service was super quick and friendly. We would definitely go back!
google avatar

Allison T.

Yelp
One of my favorite mom-and-pop wonton shops in Seattle. They used to be located in Chinatown, but they moved to a better location in MLK with a big parking lot. Highly recommend their wonton and sui kau noodle dishes. Warning, there is msg. But a little msg leaves you with a happy belly. I also love their Cantonese version of jjajeong mian (spicy pork noodle). Congee is a bit watery and bland, but still good. Great service and never disappointed with my visits.
google avatar

Adriana V.

Yelp
Sad day! Canton Noodle House officially closed their doors as the owners are ready to retire. I have been eating at this establishment since they were located in the CID and have never been disappointed. South Seattle will miss this gem dearly. I hope Mama eventually sells her sui kau!
google avatar

Brittany W.

Yelp
This is your standard Hong Kong style noodle house. The interior of the restaurant is pretty basic, but you go for the food, not the atmosphere. There's one woman basically running the front end of the shop--taking orders, answering the phone, bringing out your food, and ringing up the bill--so sometimes there's a little bit of a wait if there's a lot of people, but don't worry, the woman's a hustler. I ordered the wonton noodle soup and subbed the standard noodles (which are like thin chow mein noodles) for the wide noodles (which are like the same consistency as the wonton wrapper). There's also an option to sub for rice noodles, which I've also done before. The wontons are made in-house (I've also seen the one woman running the show make them in her spare time) and are shrimp and pork and definitely taste homemade. They are so delicious and there are never enough in my bowl (I could honestly just eat a whole bowl of wontons and soup), but that's how they keep me coming back. They do ask that credit/debit card charges have a min of $10, so either bring cash to support this small business or be prepared to spend over that much!
google avatar

Kayla P.

Yelp
i ordered the sui kau noodle soup through doordash--the broth was pretty salty which sucks, but i really liked the sui kau and the portion is big for the regular size! will update my review once i can visit there in person :)
google avatar

Mei W.

Yelp
One of my favorite noodle places and I love that it's close by my house! :) The food reminds me of home. Just like being at home eating my mom's noodle soup. The flavor is delicious and healthy. Plus they give good portions. I want to try all the noodle dishes.
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
New owner new items! The wonton soup has improved by a micro margin and it's delicious. The new items such as fried chicken, one of the best fried chicken you'll have. Flavorful and the crispness of the skin is ON POINT. Can't wait to try their BBQ options!
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
I visited the Canton Noodle House recently with my boyfriend. This is the second time in two weeks. On our first visit we both got the fried chicken combo. The fried chicken was quite tasty, the chicken was moist and flavorful. I got the butter corn on the side which turned out to be corn on the cob, which was a little difficult to eat. I'd get this again. On our second visit, I got the wonton noodle soup and my boyfriend got the fish ball and beef brisket noodle soup. I really enjoyed mine and thought the soup was flavorful, noodles had just the right springiness and wontons were tasty. I tried a piece of brisket and thought it was good but had too strong of a 5 spice powder flavor for my tastes. Overall, good food, and I'd definitely come back again.
google avatar

Richard M.

Yelp
My kid was craving wonton soup, so this seemed to be a good place to try. He didn't have any complaints and said it was very good. I ordered a fried chicken combo, and it was pretty much just okay. Service seems to be an issue. The fried chicken portion of the meal came out 5-10 minutes after the wonton soup did, to which the server apologized. Then the French fries arrived 5 minutes later. Ketchup came another 5 minutes later. I'm a tourist who doesn't come to the Seattle area much, so it's doubtful I would come back here. If I was a local resident, I wouldn't be rushing back here.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
Amazing food. Awesome staff, and easy location. Highly recommend you check it out for the congee, duck, and noodles!
google avatar

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Cute little mom and pop shop that serves handmade wontons! You can even see them making the dumplings by hand if it's slow enough. Service was fast and soup came out piping hot which I love! They give you a fair amount of noodles and dumplings for the price. Soup broth was a bit more fishy than I'm use to but apparently that's what they're known for and it's suppose to be authentic. Either way would definitely come back and try the congee next time!

Melissa L.

Yelp
Taste buds satisfied, wish they had a/c or some kind of cool air, and service is quick and easy.
google avatar

Kenny L.

Yelp
Great start new owners! Same great wonton noodle bowls augmented by treats with traditional flavors from the old country village.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
This place has it all. Good lightning, good food, and friendly staff. I got a large wonton noodle, the classic and it was quite good if I do say so myself. The place is a bit grimy but that's because this place is always packed and they're too busy serving food which is respectable. I believe that if a place is too clean, the food is average at best. I would come here again. This place is awesome, would recommend wonton noodle soup and add chili oil in it. Also, the lightning in this place is just impeccable. 5/5.
google avatar

Sandra N.

Yelp
The owner here is so adorable and friendly! Absolutely loved her. She hand makes the wontons right there in the restaurant. Great service. My coworkers love this place and it's definitely a great place for noodle. I'm not a huge soup fan so I honestly can judge this accurately but everyone seemed to love their order.

Andie V.

Yelp
Loved our wonton and siu kau noodle soup. My mom is picky and she was happy with her wonton noodle soup.

Bao L.

Yelp
I put off going to this restaurant because reviews said they changed owners and it wasn't as good anymore. The reviews were wrong. This place was great. I had the roast duck noodle soup and it was exactly what I wanted. Would definitely come back.
