I came here on a Saturday night with my friend, and we had such a great time! Our waiter was super knowledgeable (which was great because I don't know much about wine), the atmosphere was calm, and the wine flight was a great way to try a few different types of wine without breaking the bank. I'll definitely be back!

Came here on a Monday at 4pm to avoid the crazy parking and crowds. There is paid street parking right outside of the space. This is a cozy place to get nice South African wine and snacks. The staff were friendly and helpful. I tried the curator red blend and it was a solid medium bodied wine. We also had the meat and cheese board. The cheeses were amazing and the jerky-like meat has some different and interesting flavors like coriander. Loved the honey comb with the goat cheese.

Google
We visited for a cheese and wine pairing and had a wonderful time. The partnership with Antonellis for the cheese was perfect and Lacy and Casey were both so knowledgeable about the wine and the cheese. They have cutest, coziest set with a huge selection of wines. Our tasting included a sparkling, white and red, all stellar and we had a glass of the Taj as well. Top notch and I can't wait to go back.

Google
We enjoyed our wine tasting at this stylish though easily missed place. They have bar and table seating and a vast display of wines. The menu has many bottle and glass options, two tastings, and snacks. Paid parking on street or free street parking further away.

Google
WOW! Such a professional and thorough wine taste room experience 😃 I did the 4 wine flight which allowed me to try a Brut, 1 white, and 2 red wines with the suggestion of the wine specialist. Each one was INCREDIBLE. Definitely some of the best wine I’ve ever had. I was so impressed with the ambience and space as well. We also tried the cheese + Biltong. HIGHLY recommend- paired so nicely with the wine. Had the opportunity to meet the owner and try a couple of wines gratis to help them choose which Cab to put on their next menu. I’ll definitely be back!

Google
Such lovely hospitality here! Female owned and the wine is incredible. All south African wines. The vibe is so calm and inviting. They play jazz and have a great cheeseboard and charcuterie selections. Great place to have a lovely chat. The interior decor is beautiful. Pay to park on the street. I strongly recommend!!

Impromptu date night with my husband & our dog came along. Lovely experience tasting different red wines & the atmosphere was very chic & cozy. Our server Daniel was wonderful! Highly recommend this unique wine room with tasty snacks too. We’ll be back!

Yelp
New favorite date night spot alert! Glass, flights, and whole bottles are at your availability here as well as a decent menu of snacks and curated South African food boards to complement the wines. Very intimate space with dim lights later into the night. The space itself, and entrance, is such a wow factor and really sets the mood. Our waitress did an amazing job of asking our preferences in order to build the wine flight and we were very happy with the options provided and they were all explained to us thoroughly . We stopped by on a Friday night about 5:30pm before a concert over at the Parish around the corner and there were only a few patrons (some with well behaved dogs as well). They partner with the InKind app and you can get a discount off of your bill. Our waitress was knowledgeable about this factor and effortlessly was able to apply it with ease. We were so happy with our experience that we ended up purchasing bottles that we liked to bring back home so this was especially helpful. The only real bad was the bathrooms here are down a shared hallway and up two large steps, clearly shared with other businesses nearby. They are gender neutral rooms and lock, but they oddly have a full shower in there and unfortunately were not clean and did not match with the spotless and sheek bottle room and bar vibe.

Yelp
My new favorite wine bar in Austin! Beautiful ambiance and a great selection of South African wines. I came by for the first time during a Saturday night of SXSW and it was a bit too loud/crowded for us, but returned at another time and really enjoyed it. The bartender was incredibly friendly and I enjoyed getting to learn more about the wines and the story of Cape Bottle Room. I actually ended up getting a non alcholoic wine which was I was really happy to see. Really well done space - I look forward to returning.

Yelp
We love Cape Bottle Room! It's such a hidden gem. Featuring all South African wines, their inventory has something for everyone. The staff is so wonderful and helping in making suggestions for us non experts. The food selection is limited but high quality. It's cozy with room for around 10 parties at a time so you'll definitely get an initiate experience. The best part is that they are dog friendly so you can bring your pup and they'll bring them a water bowl!

Yelp
Recently I attended an event at the Cape Bottle Room and I must say that I was quite impressed with the vibe of this venue which was really laid back to enjoy a wide variety of South African wines which I was very unfamiliar with. We explored a wine flight trio tasting however at the end of the event, John, the sommelier, suggested a red, Saxenburg Guinea Fowl, that got my attention and I bought a bottle. I plan to return to the Cape Bottle Room during their tasting hours with some fellow oenophiles to explore more wines from South Africa.

Yelp
Such a lovely establishment! Wow, I truly love the simple and elegant decor of the space! Very inviting and warm. You may miss the front door as it is tucked away on a side street, but still located in a popular area. I'm so shocked that I have not heard about this place before. My favorite thing is that they have social events all throughout the month!! I sampled the White Wine blend which was fabulous and crisp! Perfect for the cooler weather out and it paired nicely with the cheese board I ordered. I enjoyed the red peppers and the unique crackers served with it. The wine prices are fair and they have happy hour from 2-6pm which is a great deal with $2 off per glass. They also have more affordable bottles between $30-40. Service was very lovely and I enjoyed taking to the staff working around 8pm. she was really sweet and knowledgeable about their wines. This is definitely a spot I'll be adding to the rotation!

Yelp
Finally got the chance to visit Cape Bottle Room and I think I might have found one of my new favorite places in Austin. The decor, the service, the extensive wine selection. You can choose from singular glasses, enjoy a flight or indulge in the whole bottle. There are also select light bites to choose from to accompany your beverage. Very cozy and intimate setting perfect for date night or a night out with the girls. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
This is a cute wine bar where everything is from South African. From the wine to the cheese and meats. I tried their fortified wine ~18% abv. The woman helping us was very friendly and offered recommendations according to taste profile.

Anuj P.

Yelp
Fantastic selection of SA wine, knowledgeable and friendly staff and a super cool place to hang out with a bottle of wine.

Yelp
I came for the Yelp experience and stayed because I enjoyed it so much that I lingered past the free glass of wine. The Bottle Room almost has a speakeasy type vibe. You wouldn't tell from the outside that there was a very well-appointed wine tasting room with a 20s/Gatsby-esque vibe. Gregory was behind the bar and not only was he friendly but he's a true SAFer, CBR focuses on South African wines and it's nice to not only have someone from there but as he put it 'been to pretty much all the wineries in person.' His recommendation for the red was spot on. I'm not much of an oenophile but it's starting to grow on me and having this glass of wine-with its balance and flavor notes...I bought a bottle, something that I rarely do. I wanted something to eat so I got the Meat and Cheese board. Instead of the usual charcuterie it was biltong, a nice touch that went along with the South African theme. I described biltong as 'like beef jerky, but better,' and it was! The biltong was tender, not overly salty and went well with the cheeses and honey. Perfect complement to the wine. I'm adding Cape Bottle Room to my list of places to take visitors to, that's how good it is.

Yelp
Another outstanding evening at Cape - this time our excellent service came from sommelier Luke, who expertly took care of everyone, knew the menu and had great recommendations, and made us feel right at home. Date night? Solo night? Pregame? Post game? Cape has an amazing location, though it's easy to walk past, and the ambiance is charming without being stuffy.

Yelp
I've had to at least walk by this place a hundred times and never realized it was there... The entrance is almost like an unintentionally Speakeasy.. I don't know if it was intentional or unintentional. Either way, it really brings together the charm that this place offers. First and foremost, it's a wine bar that focuses on South African wines just so we're clear! It's a great little spot, good lighting, the overall vibes are laid back & smooth, the staff is great and helpful. Plus, their Happy Hours starts at 2pm - 6pm!! Highly Recommend: Glass of Pinotage Rose Anyway, if you're looking for something different or slightly new, come check them out. Like most wines or really almost anything, you'll either like what you get or you won't.
google avatar

Yelp
Some really great South African wines inside this little hidden and magical spot. Inviting and fun space paired well with the staff's great attitudes! Highly recommend the Moreson Cabernet Franc!
google avatar

Christopher T.

Yelp
The staff were exceptionally friendly and generous. We ended up tasting several samples that were recommended based on our feedback from the first round. I was introduced to orange wine and though it didn't seem particularly appealing at first, we eventually found one that I enjoyed. The space is comfy and contemporary. The wine selection seems pretty vast and the staff is friendly and seems to be generally well-informed. The space seems like it would be great for a large group.
google avatar

Yelp
Notes: Cute happy hour spot 20% off wine on Wednesdays Live music + a la carte sushi on Fridays Food pop ups (check their website) Large wine selection (solid orange wine) Ask for Alexis!
google avatar

Rachel S.

Yelp
Came for a live music event so can't comment on the bottle selection. Ambiance is cool and cozy, and the sound quality was good. In terms of counter service, friendly staff. My phone wouldn't pick up the menu QR code, so I got an unspecified glass of rose and a cheese plate while uninformed of price. The plastic refrigeration containers of pre-bought items were all out on the counter. Below is what I received, which I'd value at about $14 cost at absolute max. I was charged $47, pre-tip. Maybe I'm out of touch. You decide the value for cost of this place.

Yelp
Cape Bottle Room is quietly nestled off the busy 6th street of East Austin. It's a clean and minimalistic space focused on some high quality South African wines (hence the name). I usually go when they're not very busy, so I've found that the employees have the time to talk me through the menu and help me pick my wines. I love getting a flight to get to sample several styles, and since the team is so knowledgeable, their recommendations are spot on. The wines are solid and not overly expensive. Great place to stop in for a quick drink between activities or for a chill night catching up with a friend.
google avatar

Christina T.

Yelp
The vibes and ambiance of this place is amazing! We came for a friend's birthday on a friday nice and the service was amazing. They were very knowledgeable on all things wine and are able to recommend you different options based on the flavor profile and types of wine that you enjoy. They have little snacks but don't expect much it's just regular ole potato chips. I think this is a great place for date night or girls night!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Great wine bar exclusively featuring wines from South Africa - John and owner, Danya were particularly friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Every wine I tried was top notch and carefully curated. Nice design aesthetic and ambience. Did I mention the charcuterie? A+
google avatar

Spring L.

Yelp
What a cute little wine bar!! I knew very little about South African wines coming into this bar but left a little more educated. Not only were the wines delicious and unique but the sommelier was great and educated me on quite a bit about the wines they had. Great spot for date night or girls night out.
google avatar

Lisa O.

Yelp
My favorite was the South African biltong board. It's probably the heartiest meat and cheese board I've ever had. Since I am gluten-free, they offered gluten-free rice crackers. This was my first time having South African biltong. Importing biltong from out of the country is illegal, so they order from someone in the States who makes South African beef Jerky. It contained coriander to give it a floral taste. There were two different types of beef jerky, and they were both good. The goat cheese was the best I've ever had because it wasn't pungent. I loved the sheep cheese. The honeycomb paired well with the goat cheese. The olives weren't pitted but still delicious. The food was even more delicious when paired with a South African rose!
google avatar

Darby P.

Yelp
this place is GREAT! the server was very knowledgeable about all of the wines, took the time to explain all of the notes and grapes in each of our wines in the flight ($5 off for happy hour!) the cheese board was super yummy as well. love the vibe in here, perfect for an intimate date or a girls night to catch up and chat! will be back for sure!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a lovely wine bar, I'm very glad I went! I came here on a date and it's not a big place, but that actually gives it a very intimate, cozy vibe. One rec I do have is if they had the room to add some couches for a lounge corner - omg that would be AWESOME! But nevertheless they have really nice tables, a long bar in the center, and a bar by the counter. I like the bottles on the shelves lining they room, and our server told us on arrival we could request to open any of them and have a glass even if it's a wine not on the menu. We ended up getting the 3 glass flight for $24 and you can choose from a list of some 15ish wines of different varieties, and I really liked the variety. I also particularly appreciated our very sweet server Lacy let us try a couple of wines (including a rose, and the only "orange wine" on the menu) before we made a decision on our 3 glasses. I shared all the glasses with my date and it felt like a good amount of wine, plus Lacy also gave us a complimentary glass of a new red ganache wine that they were making available to try! That was actually probably my favorite wine, it was a very rich red with a lot of body to it. All the wines here are South African, so it's fun to get a little piece of the wine culture there by visiting here. There was city of Austin street parking which is fairly cheap (like $3 for 2 hrs or so) but you could probably find a side road somewhere if you really looked, or if you need groceries from nearby Whole Foods you could prob park in their garage, buy whatever to get parking validation, then walk the block over to here. Overall this is a great wine date/lounge spot and I was really glad I came to try it! Would definitely go back on another date or with friends.
google avatar

Kristal O.

Yelp
What a wonderful hidden gem!!! So glad I stumbled across this because it's not well known from the street. All South African wines and yes, rest assured, there IS variety. Knowledgeable staff and clean cute cozy area. Very inviting but it's not super easy to know it's there. It's just to the right of Wright bros brew and brew. They do 3 or 4 wine tasting flights of your choice but ai recommend just giving some insights of must haves, no haves, and let them choose for you. It's an adventure!! 20% off to go bottles toooooooo
google avatar

Allison D.

Yelp
The Cape Bottle Room is a cool little South African wine bar on the East side. The space is beautiful and open. The staff was attentive, friendly, and of course, very knowledgeable about South African wines. The wines were fun and the team made them very approachable. True to their mission, this place is about enjoying wine and conversation without pretense. Learning more about South African wines and wine regions was an added plus. Lots of good things here - sustainable, tasty wine and bites in a lovely space.
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
My friends and I stopped by to celebrate a birthday and had a ball! We started with a tasting and let John do his thing. John was amazing and extremely knowledgeable and we enjoyed learning about different wines! We tried some new wines and enjoyed them all. We bought a couple bottles, got upset watching the Cowboys game lol and then I whooped some butt in a good game of dominoes. We will be back and you should stop by if you're looking for some new wine and a good time.
google avatar

Sasa P.

Yelp
What a chic yet comfy place to hang out with a glass of wine. Everyone who worked there was friendly and helpful in selecting our party's glasses. They have a large selection of bottles, and if you're specifically into South African wines, this is the place for you. More interestingly, they do live music, comedy nights, and host cool partnership events like the one we were at with a sushi dinner by Osome meets wine pairings.
google avatar

Brandy C.

Yelp
Love love love their wine selection. I hadn't tried South African wine before visiting Cape Bottle Room and I'm so glad I had the chance! I'm not much of a rosé drink but, they had one (Creation) that tasted great! They have a good happy hour and Monday's are service industry friendly. I'm looking forward to returning to try more of their wine and food items!

Victor E.

Yelp
Staff, vibe, and wine are all top notch. I think I will come here every time I drive through Austin.

Yelp
So happy to have finally been in to try Cape, a South African Wine Tasting room. We all decided to do the 5 wine tasting to really get a feel for the wine. Lynn, Cape's Somm, was so helpful and walked us through a variety of both white, rose and red wines. We were really impressed by how light and fruitful the wines were. Perfect for the Texas heat! It was a pleasure to meet, Cory, one of the owners who also let us a try a sparkling that was amazing! Highly recommend getting out to try this spot. The space itself is modern, inviting and has some really delicious and unique wines!
google avatar

Britny H.

Yelp
Cape is a South African Wine Tasting room, that's definitely worth a visit. My friends and I met up here and it was the perfect spot. The wines were great and the service was perfect. I had the sparkling wine flight and my friends tried some of the Reds that were offered. So many great choices of wines. It was a great meeting spot with a very cozy and asthetic look.

Yelp
South African wines are among the best in the world, so I'm thrilled that this place has opened in Austin. All wines are sourced and imported from SA. We did a tasting and left with two bottles. Great menu of wine-friendly snacks and awesome staff. Can't wait to return.

Yelp
While preparing for a trip to Austin, TX, I stumbled upon the Cape Bottle Room on Instagram #GetInHere Despite having no prior knowledge of South African wines, my friends and I were captivated by their appealing aesthetic and intriguing selection. From the moment we walked in, the beautifully decorated space exuded an inviting ambiance, perfectly blending elegance with comfort. The real magic happened when we began exploring their wine selection. Cory, one of the owners, was there to guide us through this adventure, and his passion for these wines was infectious. Cory was an absolute superstar host. He not only made us feel welcome but also guided us through the menu, suggesting a bottle of The Genie by Silverthorn. His detailed backstory on every bottle he recommended gave us an appreciation for the winemaking process, and it was clear he was committed to providing a unique and memorable experience for all guests. He struck the perfect balance between being informative and approachable, making our experience feel more like a friendly chat than a formal tasting. To say that we had a great time would be an understatement. The Cape Bottle Room was more than just a place to try wine; it was a journey into a new and fascinating world of flavors, guided by a knowledgeable and friendly host. It's a place I'd recommend to anyone, whether you're looking to try something new or further expand your understanding of wine.

Yelp
Whilst looking for a Yelp event, I stumbled upon this cool place with awesome wine! I came in looking for directions and the staff was so helpful and kind to me that once I left the event that I was due at I came back to try some wine! The interior decor is so modern and new, while the outside is warm and inviting with signs literally stating "GET IN HERE"! From my understanding, the wine is exclusively from South Africa and features, some signature flavors, including orange wine, which was my favorite! They also have small bites like charcuterie however, I didn't eat during this visit. Probably my favorite part of this whole place was the bathroom funny enough! Has the most adorable and inclusive sign I've seen anywhere in Austin or otherwise; I love to see things like this making everyone feel safe and welcome! The inside of the bathroom is also very nice and clean, great mirrors for photos and very spacious! Definitely get this place a try. The orange wine is the best! There's also free street parking on Sundays in the area.

Yelp
Beautiful establishment, friendly and knowledgeable staff and amazing wine! This is definitely a hidden gem, would come back, absolutely recommend it. 10/10
google avatar

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise my friend suggested this one. I have a thing for South Africa. Love their wine for the great pinotage and all the whites. Good to know I am not the only one who chill my red;) their cheese was really good. The staff said there were truffle on it, immediately it worth $$$
google avatar

Amy D.

Yelp
Speakeasy type entrance, bright welcoming space, knowledgable team and a fab selection of South African wines. This wine bar is perfect for a date night, ladies outing, or wine crawl as there are a few other wine bars in the area. Wednesdays is one of the best days, hh and the wine triangle. Wether you are new to wines from South African or well versed, you will enjoy!
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
Every wine here is from South Africa--kind of a bold move opening a niche so narrow, but I've sampled several SA wines through my wife (CMS Cert Somm & WSET diploma) so I was kind of excited to check this place out solo with my better half out of town. Meagan was great suggesting the Chenin Blanc as my first glass. The feel of the place is industrial which works well as the lighting used doesn't overpower and you feel a little like you're near a cellar. There is a projector TV on one wall and they tune to whatever sports or what not are on...I happened to stop by during the Vikings/Giants playoff game and sat near a speaker to hear the sound (which is low enough to not hinder conversation, but just barely high enough to hear if you focus on it). There is even Casita Cold Brew and Wanderlust Sangria on tap and I've seen some cheese/charcuterie boards go out. I finished with a Malbec and then moved on as I had an event nearby to attend. Overall great experience--service, vibe, wine ( I need to return to try a board)...I'll be back--this is simply a great place to drink wine without feeling like you don't belong, if you know what I mean--unpretentious.

Yelp
I love this new South African wine spot! They have a great selection of wine from South Africa at pretty reasonable prices. I wish they had more food but honestly for the wine, I can't wait to come back again soon.

Yelp
I've enjoyed this neighborhood wine bar from every vantage point: as a patron, as a wine distributor, and as an employee. Cory and Danya are beautiful people and they have created an atmosphere of community, exploration, class, indulgence and wine education. Truly a special place. Cape Bottle Room treats their distributors and employees with respect and employ fair trade practices. Their wine and food prices are INCREDIBLY reasonable when you consider these fair trade/fair wage practices. I've seen other reviews that there are growing pains and I can confirm. I am beyond confident though, in the owner's ability and desire to grow and improve in every conceivable way. I have personally experienced palpable changes in menu items, operations, and staff training. I recommend a meat and cheese plate with delicious Biltong, a glass or two of wine and indulging in an aesthetic atmosphere in the heart of East Austin. Wednesday's I am there for ALL DAY happy Hour. Cheers

Yelp
Fun and chill vibes! Great selection of South African wine. If you enjoy wine definitely try it out!

Yelp
Was looking for a bottle for my mother in law and the options they suggested were amazing!!!

Abraham B.

Yelp
Great place, great vibe, great wine ! Super friendly staff, sit down, relax, and have a chat with friends tasting some of the best wines from South Africa.
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
This place was absolutely phenomenal. The Saxenburg syrah that I had was among the best I've had, even comparing to Napa/Sonoma/Paso. Got several extra bottles to take home. The servers were terrific and they hooked me up with few extra samples of local cheeses to pair with the wines. The boards were great and the South African jerky was really unique. I also liked that the owners were there hanging out and teaching people about the wine!
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
I came in right when they opened and was greeted by some of the nicest staff (John and Joe) that I've ever met. Despite my lack of wine knowledge, they were able to help tailor my experience to my taste. I can't wait to come back during live music or comedy nights.

Yelp
What a great wine shop/bar! So glad we saw this driving by on our way to brunch. We decided to stop in on a Sunday and had a wonderful time and amazing quality wines! The owners are lovely and knowledgeable. They also live in East austin, so it's so nice to visit a shop actually owned and operated by locals to the neighborhood. Come by either to hang out for wine and cheese, or to buy bottles and take home!

Yelp
Spent a Sunday afternoon for a birthday celebration. There was a surprise reservation fee of $10 a person and no credit given. Then there was a required gratuity of 20% . And the place was empty. Very unwelcoming and uncomfortable. Food not worth the cost. Bread and butter?????? Meat and cheese plate not worth $40. I will not return. I will get my South African wine at H‑E‑B and snacks at a much better price. Update: the owner did reach out and refund the reservation fee and asked to make things right. The fee was a tech error. Very understandable. It is definitely a try for yourself place. This place is new and still going through growing pains. I'm impressed with the fact that the owner cared.

Yelp
This is a great spot to go have a glass of wine with a date or small of friends. Wine selection is great we all ordered the Pinotage. Will be back for sure.

Yelp
Such a cute place !!! Me and my husband got such a warm welcome from staff and owners I got a flight that was tailored to my tastes and the bartender was spot in ! We got a chessboard ...so yummy and perfect size to wash down the delicious wine! We will definitely be back to sample even more wines for sure -
