Capital Espresso is the kind of neighborhood vessel that reminds you why you live in the city. I just stopped in for a coffee to go, and I caught Shakeel right as he was closing up. Usually, that’s when you get the "end-of-shift" energy, but he was the complete opposite just a genuine smile and a real, infectious passion.
We got to talking, and he wasn’t just finishing work; he was actually excited to head down to the basement for his "second project." It turns out he runs pottery classes, and it really sparked something for me. I’ve been looking for a new outlet lately, and there is something so grounding about the idea of working with your hands to make something real—like a plate or a vase for your own home.
It’s rare to find someone who is that happy to share their craft and their time, especially when they’re just about to clock out. The coffee is delicious, but it’s Shakeel’s energy and the whole creative vibe of the place that makes it a Parkdale staple. I went in for a quick caffeine fix and left with a whole new plan to start making things. I’m definitely fixing to be back for more coffee and to finally get my hands on some clay.
