Google
This Italian food store is a gem. Their fresh pasta is so good that reminds me I’m in Italy again. They have many kinds of pasta and homemade sauce you could pair with. Highly recommended!

Google
I can not love this place any more than I do! Excellent selection of homemade pasta, sauces, pizza, cheeses, meals & sandwiches. Huge selection of Italian products, olive oil, cheese and cured meats. Al is the best! The produce & products are phenomenal. Love Capone Foods!

Rico Martinez

Google
We've walked by this place a few times already but they have been closed. Finally stopped in today and witnessed an impressive array of Italian food (with some from other countries like Argentina). We got to sample the sun-dried tomatoes (best I've ever had), and the person at the country talked with us and shared a grid / menu of the pasta and sauce combinations they offer. Really great products and very friendly store. We are already planning on stopping by again to grab some stuff for the beach this weekend, as well as some future dinners we have in mind utilizing their pasta. Give this shop a go next time you are around; I'd even venture to say it's work going out of your way!

Google
Did someone just say Capone's, Clear Flour Bread and cheeses in one sentence? What are you doing reading this - GO NOW. The pasta that Al - yes, his name really is Al Capone - makes is served in most of the high end and North End eateries. Here you can take it home frozen with any number of to die for sauces, throw in some garlickly shrimp, add that bread, wine to match, a candle and company. uuummh...you'll be loved and lovin it. GO.....read no more GO.

Google
The BEST, my family loves all their frozen meals and the owner and his daughters have been SO accommodating helping me ship and send food to loved ones many times over the years! Even though parking lately has been tough with the construction I would never go anywhere else and love supporting this small business.

Can’t believe I’ve lived in Union Square for almost a year without trying this place. Cooked up their pumpkin and roasted garlic raviolis and they were some of the best I’ve ever had. Will absolutely be going back!

Google
Capone Foods is a fun stop for fresh pasta (made in the back of the store), and a wide selection of Italian specialty products. I personally enjoy the empanadas (even if I'm a bit confused why they sell these traditional South American treats), and the giant "Pasta Guide" behind the counter is helpful in matching pasta type to sauce (and amount needed for a particular serving). The prices are reasonable (not much of a 'deal', but fair), and the fresh mozzarella made daily is delicious. Feeling like a baller? They have a few bottles of $1200 (yes, Twelve HUNDRED dollar) balsamic vinegar. If you go for it, let me know how good it is.

Being an Italian-American and Michigander, I've been surprised at how hard it is to find Italian markets here in Cambridge/Boston. Came to this store to buy ricotta for a pasta dish I was making (your non-italian supermarkets will put this sandy substance on the shelf I'm shocked is called ricotta). However, I was equally shocked to see how expensive the ricotta here was. In Michigan, I pay $3.50 per pound for ricotta that you can get literally pulled out of the pot, cut and placed for you. Here, I paid $4 for maybe 1/3 of a pound (no measurements provided) of ricotta that was already prepackaged. Luckily, the ricotta was good, but I'm going to make my own ricotta from now on -- it's super easy and you just need a $4 cheese cloth. Missing my reasonable Italian markets in Michigan :(

Yelp
Great Italian market in the heart of Union Square. I purchased their fresh pasta for a recipe and was pleasantly surprised at the quality and options available. The owner was really nice and patient in this well kept market. Definitely going back soon to see what other tasty treats they have.

Lisa L.

Yelp
Great fresh pasta!! I live down the street and it's such a convenience to be able to buy fresh pasta on the go. Various styles of pasta cuts you can get from parpadelle, fettuccine, linguine, and etch Great small business to support in the Somerville area! They also have house made olive oil as well as fresh pasta sauces and deli meats!

Jenni F.

Yelp
Great pasta, sauces and Italian meats! Been in Union Sq for quite some time- cheeses, frozen pizza and meals.

Gaia B.

Yelp
Capone is absolutely my favorite Italian market!!! I was born and raise in Italy and Capone is where I go when I am homesick! I tried almost everything that they sell and I have never been disappointed! I would really recommend to try their mushroom lasagna!!! Truffle pizza!!! and their home made fresh ricotta (omg!) but honestly everything is delicious. My husband loves their empanadas. They are frozen and you can cook them in the air-fryer in less than 10 minutes. Last time I was there I was able to find fresh bufala mozzarella! It was absolutely the best! You can order online of you can stop by the store! Highly recommend it!

Ellie L.

Yelp
Frozen raviolis are a tad on the pricy side, but I've so very much enjoyed them that I do not mind. great variety of flavours (including vegan options). One bag gave me two full portions, enough for two hungry adults. Great tastes too - they will bring me back to this store. Fresh pasta are good and agreeably priced. Not mind blowing, but fresh and easy to get to al dente. Cold cuts were ok, good price.

Maria V.

Yelp
This place is truly magical. Boston dwellers I am jealous of the close proximity you have to their store. However, I am so pleased they ship to places including dear old Maryland! This business has been family run at the helm of Al Capone (yes, that's truly his name) since 1985 and it is a well oiled machine. Every product, food item, and detail has been thoughtfully procured, arranged, and prepared with the best quality ingredients and care. Their website is fabulous and supported by Shopify. It's easy to navigate and broken down into organized and sensible departments. Charcuterie, cheese, quick meals, etc! You want it? They've got it. Prices are dare I say very reasonable also. They hand cut their pasta, and the frozen foods are damn delicious and perfect for someone such as myself who is not a cook, is lazy, and has a new baby at home. For those unwinding after a long day at work who want to enjoy a hearty pasta dish? Say no more. They have options suited for many palates and diets. Ingredients and 'use by' dates are stated on the packaging and are simple but that's what makes it so great-no filler and unhealthy additives. Concise instructions are also labeled on the packaging for the non cooking folk, so if you mess it up then you must not be able to read. They make their own olive oil, offer deli items (like made to order sandwiches) and sell imported Italian products at the store. We have enjoyed the prosciutto di Parma, parmigiano reggiano, upscale pepperoni pizza, margherita pizza, meat lasagna, black pepper fettuccine, gnocchi, essence of tomato sauce to name a few. Currently awaiting and salivating over our next shipment! Shipments arrive precisely packed and sealed with dry ice to preserve the food. It's like a Tetris game, all the pieces fitting into styrofoam coolers. I could go on and on, but be like the countless others and try Capone Foods for yourself! You will not be disappointed, and if you are then you obviously know nothing about great food or Italian food at all.

Kaveh D.

Yelp
This little independent Italian grocery store is all you want to get some of the best fresh pastas and sauces in town. In addition, there is a great set election of homemade style prepared food such as lasagna and other dishes ready to grab. On the top of all these, the staff is some of the nicest you have ever come across in Boston area. I am a regular costumer and highly recommend Capone! But remember to have cash in hands.

Anna F.

Yelp
Cool specialty food store! They have Italian and Argentine specialties. I love that the prepared food options include frozen pizzas with fancy toppings, and frozen Argentine style empanadas. & It was awesome to spot alfajores and dulce de leche.

Danielle K.

Yelp
Wow. What a gem in Union Square! I've stopped by a few times to get a sandwich for lunch and have not been disappointed. My favorite so far is the eggplant sandwich. This store feels like you're in the north end or even Italy! Lots of delicious products you can buy to make your own meal at your home. The staff is helpful & friendly - so don't be afraid to ask for advice.

Agustin R.

Yelp
Great food and service. I been buying empandas and frozen pasta for a while. Also love the fact that they have Yerba mate from Uruguay and I can finally get it without going too far. I enjoy their food and I recommend this place .

Angelina M.

Yelp
Great selection of Italian and Argentinean foods! This little shop offers pasta, pizzas, meats, cookies, and frozen goods to take home. It's your one-stop-shop for specialty food for dinner. We bought some empanadas to take home to bake and they were tasty! We also bought some imported Argentinean alfajores. These are delicious cookies filled with manjar/dulce de leche and sometimes covered in chocolate. The staff here were friendly but not pushy on selling. The prices are pretty reasonable!

Amy L.

Yelp
I've only gotten my eggs there, but I am so happy this place stocks local farm eggs.

Sarah C.

Yelp
The best "fresh" pasta and Italian grocery mart in town. I am sad that my fianc'e left his Union Square apartment and now i only go there twice a year versus every Sat. He said the owner can be gruff but he's always pleasant to me. When you're not sure which pasta and sauce combo to get, consult the board. It lists all the pairings of pasta and sauce. Grab the sauce in the fridge and ask for the amount of pasta you need in the front. Easy peasy. We have been getting their olive oil for years and the tip is to reuse the bottle. Your price will be discounted. Do yourself a favor and get emapandas and cannoli when you exit.

Arnold H.

Yelp
Sandwiches are for lunch only during week, which would be more disappointing if the ones we've tried were good. Middling fare. Good cheeses. Eggplant sandwich was not edible. Would only recommend as a grocery.

Bethany G.

Yelp
Delicious empanadas + amazing customer service! In early March 2019, I ordered the Argentine Meat Empanadas to be shipped from Capone Foods in Massachusetts to Northern California. My dad had just started hospice and I wanted him to have Argentine Empanadas once last time. We knew time was not our side. Al and his team were all over my order -- they called and emailed me daily with updates (even after 10pm ET) on the delivery status because they knew how important it was to me. The food arrived and it was incredible...my dad passed two days later. I can't begin to describe how Capone Foods touched our family during a really tough time.

Rebecca G.

Yelp
I stopped into Capone Foods yesterday for the first time, and I cannot wait to go back. In fact, I can imagine easily stopping by at least once a week. The fresh pasta is truly delicious and the texture of the ricotta filling in the cannoli was perfect. The gentleman working behind the counter was very helpful in explaining the many pasta options available, and I cannot wait to try more of their products!

Dawn E.

Yelp
If you are not familiar with my stance on carbs, here's a refresher: I adore them. Fresh pasta is my valentine. I don't like to think of this as a weakness, but rather a testament to my fine character. And I like to stop by Capone's now and again to keep my moral fiber in check. With an array of house-made shapes, sizes and flavors of pasta alone--not to mention the cheeses and meats and oils and all manner of imported fixings for a killer antipasto--it's as if the North End was picked up by a cyclone and dropped right into humble Union Square. If I dreamed it, don't wake me. Anyway, the hours are challenging for me (I really have to plan ahead as they close by 6 on weeknights) but the black pepper tagliatelle is as nourishing for the soul as a good old fashioned revival (amen, brothers and sisters) so it's well worth the effort.

Lesley N.

Yelp
I rarely make my way to Union Square but when I do, I always stop by Union Square Donuts (best ever) and Capone Foods (also best ever). I can't really eat dairy, so it's amazing that Capone's has two vegan ravioli flavors: mushroom and sweet potato. Mushroom is my favorite! Here's a tip: the frozen ravioli takes less time to cook than what the label recommends (at least for the vegan options). I think it takes more like 3-5 minutes in roiling boil water to cook rather than the 8 minutes suggested on the bag. I also always get my olive oil from here. The owner offers samples of different olive oils and will recommend the perfect one based on your needs! The deli meats are great as well!

Andrea P.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Fresh pastas, sooo many amazing fresh cheese options, a delicious homemade pesto sauce - just to start! It is also adorable, which doesn't hurt.

Hannah V.

Yelp
For the first few months I lived in Union Square, I walked by Capone's often and never really considered going in. That changed when the Boston Globe interviewed Mr. Capone about the supposed hipster renaissance happening in the Square. I got a chuckle out of his salty answers and decided I had to find out what the fuss was about. Fast forward to now: when we buy pasta, the only kind we buy is from Capone's. I'd much rather spend money on delicious, fresh, thoughtfully made pasta, ravioli, shells, and tortellini than dried mass-produced supermarket stuff. We've yet to be disappointed by anything we buy here, and as mentioned in other reviews, Mr. Capone always has a joke or a suggestion to go with dinner. The frozen foods are excellent--I love to treat myself to stuffed shells and chicken sausage on rainy days. They have some beautiful olive oils and really top notch cheeses. My favorite thing in the shop is the pasta/sauce chart. It's so helpful! It lists each pasta/tortellini/ravioli they have, as well as the sauces; then you can read the chart to see which sauces go well with which pastas. We've had some incredible meals thanks to this chart! Lemon and black pepper pastas come to mind, the spicy tomato marinara and the sundried tomato pesto, gouda tortellini and red pepper ravioli...my mouth is watering. Don't come in talking on your cellphone. It won't be appreciated by the hardworking staff.

Dan C.

Yelp
I just had my ass mercilessly handed to me by one of the many house recommended ravioli combinations. Chicken and prosciutto ravioli with sun dried tomato pesto sauce. *lost in thought and drooling* My only regret as a long time Somerville resident is NOT having been here every week since forever ago. I fully plan on exploiting the hell out of this pasta paradise to impress family/friends/etc for as long as this place will allow. I've been to fresh pasta vendors before but this hands down was one of the best pasta dishes I can remember AND priced comfortably enough for me to be able to come back again and again. For anyone interested you can also get a fair selection of imported meats and cheeses. A bit of jamon Serrano, and some manchego cheese, on lightly toasted fresh bread (all available here)? Goes a loooooong way in feeding party guests with a taste for fine foods.

Simon L.

Yelp
This place is as good if not better than a to remain nameless competitor at the other end of Somerville. Everything you might need to make an amazing dinner including fresh pasta and sauce, ravioli, Italian cold cuts, olive oil by the multiple variety, milk, vegetables and food. Tons of other food. No sandwiches but who needs one when you're buying fresh pasta cut to order and homemade mozzarella?

Sam M.

Yelp
I held off reviewing Capone's for forever, because I felt I might be a little biased toward it. It was the first Italian gourmet store I went into when I moved to the area -- even before shopping in the North End. And I spent way too much time shopping at Capone's, stopping in at least 3 times a week. It didn't help that I lived a half-block away. Now that I've moved away from Union Square, and after a few years of trying Italian delis from the North End to Waltham, I can conclusively say that Capone Foods is the best specialty shop in the Boston metro area, bar none. This isn't to knock other stores -- most are really good, too. But a lot of love and dedication goes into everything Capone produces -- from the homemade ricotta, to the pasta, to the fantastic frozen entrees. And yes, you can get great cooking tips from the owner. It depends, of course, on how busy the place is. On Saturdays, everyone behind the counter is scrambling to fill orders. But if you come in at a quieter time, Al will happily suggest ingredients and ways to prepare just about anything you ask about. Al used to host an annual tasting dinner -- featuring Capone's ingredients -- at the still-mourned Eat and later at the Independent. I'm not sure if that still happens, but he is now occasionally leading a cooking class at the store. I've taken more than one class -- it's an enlightening and fun time with recipes I'm able to easily reproduce at home. He lists the classes on his website, or you can just ask him the next time you visit. Even if you aren't interested in a class, or recipes -- just go. There's lots of good food in there.

Jasmine E.

Yelp
This place is so neat. The pasta and sauce selections are extensive and I gotta say the white clam sauce and pesto is the best i've had so far. I thought it was neat that they make their pasta fresh..did i mention the pasta was also yummy? I highly recommend these crispy almond cookies they sell. Its on the last row of shelves by the register, on top, if your facing the register turn around and look to your left and up (unless they moved it it should still be there) i forget the name but its a big box, you can't miss it. It tastes great with tea or coffee. I don't drink wine but the owner said it also tastes good with certain sweet wines. I think the man I usually see when I'm there is the owner and he's this really soft spoken, super nice man and he'll give you suggestions on any of the products like what to try with what. I was really happy to find this place. Love it

Peter F.

Yelp
World Class. The unassuming facade hides a temple of gourmet paradise equal to the trendiest, priciest and douchiest deli-type shops in other neighborhoods and cities. Olive oils, cured meats, cheeses, pre-portioned pasta sauces, handmade ravioli, expensive delicious things in little jars. It has it all. And I like that it doesn't suffer from Americanportionitis - the saner, smaller portions just make you appreciate them even more. Simply awesome.

Martha L.

Yelp
Great place. We usually go to the one in Cambridge on Mass ave, but it's nice to have an alternative. They have excellent pasta and sauces. There is a chart that tell you what sauce goes best with which pasta. Makes it easy to figure out. They also have a nice selection of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and some other tasty items. The staff are very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Cass M.

Yelp
I'm not sure what I can add that hasn't already been said. Capone's is great. Go. I especially like the fresh pasta (I usually get fettucini), the "quick tomato' marinara sauce, and the prepared frozen turkey meatballs. It's also a great place to pick up Clear Flour Bread (so good!) and cheeses. Also - I don't know the name of the gentleman behind the counter but don't let any brusqueness fool you. He is very nice and full of tips. If you have questions about any of the food or about how to prepare your own - just ask.

Harri S.

Yelp
Kay it's not the cheapest place. For a half pound of pasta, sauce, and a hard cheese it will run you around about $14. However the variety of pasta is more diverse than a certain other pasta place down the road... the prices are similar if not cheaper on occasion The empanadas ($2.50 for small, more for large) here are okay I don't really think now that much I got a nutella empanada which hand more ricotta than Nutella. I think maybe next time you have to go for the savory it might be tastier. The pesto sauce is to die for it is branded Capone a pesto sauce super cheesy absolutely delicious one of the few places also not to mention in Boston we can get squid ink pasta for reasonable price very good. It's very very diverse and what it sells and is a far better value than the north then to top it off the stores clean the management is very very nice and you can see operations from where you're standing in the store usually very very cool.

Billie M.

Yelp
This is the place I go to when I'm just not sure what to make for dinner. Pretty much anything related to the Italian food spectrum lives here. They have a long list of homemade pastas, all of which have brought a smile to my face. They taste fresh, which is always a nice addition to a pasta dish (or actually any dish for that matter). They have a freezer full of your italian norms, as well as some empanadas that are much, much better than they should be, coming from an Italian specialty store. My true love is the rack o' imports, that is stocked high with olive oils, marinated mushrooms, jarred and seasoned eggplant, and some delish anchovies. You can make a dream pizza from this stuff. Top all that off with a hunk of cheese and a selection of their meats, and you've got yourself a serious party.

Whitney W.

Yelp
Let me explain to you why Capone's is of such value to you if you have never heard of it before. It is easy to make mediocre Italian food. A lot of things can go wrong when your ingredients are few but need balance. This is why lots of people like to go to restaurants (probably for most food in general). And this is where Capone's saves you. Suppose you do not know anything about different types of pasta and sauces. Capone's has a lovely chart for you that will pair every type of homemade sauce and pasta (and it is ALL homemade pasta and sauce here, and the recipes are superb) so that you do not fuck things up. This is especially helpful if you are cooking for someone else but do not cook often. Because technically, heating sauce and boiling water counts as cooking to untrained eyes. Now, the other thing that is so important about Capone's is that you can buy genuine delicious Italian products (like olive oil, which must be of a high quality if you hope to achieve any sort of deliciousness, it is the cornerstone of your cooking!). BUT. Unlike shops in the North End (sorry, North End), these are not tourist prices. These are go to the market prices. Which is fantastic for products that are actually A LOT better than many expensive bougie fake Italian restaurants in the Boston area. A final star because there is even dessert!

Kaitlin M.

Yelp
This is such an old-school gem in Somerville. -The ricotta. OMG THE RICOTTA. The house made ricotta is unbelievably good--i like to eat it slathered on a bit of baguette to enjoy how amazing it is. -They have some yummy tomatoes even out of season (which is semi miraculous) -the pasta is just so fresh and wonderful, you can't go wrong with any of the flavors. They'll cut it to order, which is really nice. -They have tons of european treats--dried pasta, oils, vinegars, cookies and candies, canned tomatoes, all sorts of fun things to try. -They have loose vanilla beans that are reasonable. The staff here is lovely--the owner is a kind, grumpy, hilarious, lovely older man who's from a different generation and lends the store it's credibility. The women he was working with the few times I've been have had a great sense of humor and been really kind and helpful. This place is great!!

Amy S.

Yelp
Capone's homemade ricotta tastes like butter - and i mean that in a good way. yum yum yum Speaking of butter. Go get a stick and drown their homemade pumpkin ravioli in it. Add fresh sage and pine nuts. Cooking for friends was never easier! Why are you never open by the time I get off work?

Arik C.

Yelp
Gourmet food stores are defined byt the people that work there. Al Capone welcomes you with a friendly smile, a passion for what his store offers and an incredible wealth of knowledge that makes you want to lock the doors and just talk recipes all day with him. The store offers a great selection of cheeses and cured meats. The real treat is their selection of HOME MADE pasta and sauces to pair with. Try his duck sausages or if you are even more daring, the lobster sausages. A truly unqiue experience. Sample other take home dinners like the eggplant dinner, veggie lasagna or the fantastic golden potatoes!

Cara P.

Yelp
Homemade pasta, bread, meatballs, sauces...cheese, raviolis, cold cuts, olive oil, cannolis and anything else you can imagine an Italian Specialty store would have. How can one place that is so amazing, be so bad....for my ass. ;/

Janice T.

Yelp
LIke Italian food? Like to cook? Like owners of gourmet grocery stores who are passionate about what they do and spend the time to teach you about about what's delicious, as well as provide samples of some of their delectable goods? Capone Foods provides just that. Everything from the Italian meats, cheeses, breads, pastas and cannoli are amazing. Everything is fresh and super high quality. And the pricing is fair. The cooking classes are phenomenal too. Al Capone is clearly passionate about food and they sure do keep the wine a'flowin' during the classes. If you are not sure of what to eat tonight, stop by Capone's and grab any one of their already made entrees OR ask Al himself what he recommends to make a homemade pizza. You may never go back to delivery again.

G K.

Yelp
I've been going to Capone Foods for nearly (or maybe more than!) 20 years and I feel remiss for not reviewing it here before now. Yes, the fresh pasta and olive oil are great, but that is really only the beginning. There are a host of amazing pre-made, home cooked meals available that are stunningly good. I've just finished off a Lasagna Bolognese and my only complaint is that I ate more than I should have -- it was too good. I'm almost afraid to write about the Mozzarella di bufala for fear that they will be sold out when I next go in. So subtle and delicious. I also need to say that the owner, and his staff (who are either family, or are treated like it) have been friendly, courteous and helpful every single time I've been in over the years.

Nikhilesh G.

Yelp
Went to Capone upon a recommendation. They are very friendly and nice. They even went over how they make the pastas and how to pick the sauce that goes along with the pasta, they have a chart for that as a guide. I got egg plant parm. it was very delicious. Definitely recommend this place. I will be excited to go there next time. Thank you!!!

Kate W.

Yelp
I sometimes go by the snobbish motto of "I will only eat and drink the finest". You might find me a few weeks after living by that motto eating ramen and stealing outta the employee fridge... But this place is great for fresh pasta and I like getting a bunch for foodie get togethers to pretend like I made it from scratch. Of course it's more expensive than getting dried pasta from the Market Basket, but it's REAL- and that seems to make me totally override the carb factor. Yes, I'm rambling. BUT, I def recommend shopping here for all your Italian needs. And it's conveniently right across the street from everyone's favorite really long brunch line to The Neighborhood restaurant. So this Saturday, get eat your brunch and pick up some dinner!

Ben R.

Yelp
Can't recommend this place enough. Authentic imported foods, delicious fresh, cut to order pastas (get the lemon and the black pepper) and the pizzas. Oh the pizzas. Amazing. The cold cut meats and olives (a must) are also great and better than you can find anywhere in the area. A real gem of a spot with a super friendly staff to assist with recipe questions and anything you need.

Mama P.

Yelp
This store is a gem and it worries me that more people don't shop here. You can buy Italian speck and Spanisih Serrano ham in 5-6 slice packages for $3-4. They have fresh mozz and ricotta too. Plus frozen items to stock your freezer that are tasty. They even let you taste the olive oils before you buy. Love this place.

Stratos I.

Yelp
I have been going to Capone for nearly three years now. The service is always excellent and the quality of the groceries they carry is just amazing. Also everything they make in-store (pasta, sauce, ricotta, etc.) is out of this world. Some of the items they have are clearly more expensive than similar items in the big stores but you are really buying much much better quality in Capone's. Try the squid ink pasta!

Jin J.

Yelp
Awesome place, another great find in my neighborhood. Bought some fresh pasta, ravioli and Italian sausage, everything was amazingly good!

Greg G.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about Capone Foods. It's simply the finest establishment in Union Square. My wife and I have been coming here since we moved back to Union Square three years ago. The fresh pasta is incredible. We tend to get the lemon pasta and use it with a homemade pesto. Capone Foods also has a great selection of imported foods, incredible meats and wonderful olive oils you won't find in other stores. They also have a great cheese selection and the prepared foods are great. We especially love the homemade mozzarella and recently bought a pre-made lasagna that was superb. Beyond the quality of the food I will say that the staff is amazing. Mr Capone is a wonderful guy who is always willing to chat about the way to prepare a meal and his staff is hard working, knowledgeable and super nice. This is the kind of place that makes Somerville and Union Square special. It should be in everyone's rotation. . .

Erez Y.

Yelp
Come here for reasonably price Italian delicacies, and homemade Mozz. They've got everything you need to make a great Italian meal at home, and then some.

Lauren E.

Yelp
I love their ravioli! You can buy a tub of ravioli that's a good 3 adult dinner servings, more if you're not a big eater--for $6. And it's fresh. And creative, and tasty! The grocery store ravioli tastes nothing like this, and isn't any cheaper once you factor in the size of the portion! They have a chart on the wall to help you mix and match sauces and pastas. A sample of their ravioli types: spinach, cheese, lobster&crab, smoked salmon, butternut squash, shrimp, vegan. In addition to fresh pastas, they also have a nice selection of cheeses, and imported Italian products. I bought a gourmet balsamic vinegar (pricey, but fantastic) that has become a staple in my kitchen. You can look through the doorway to the back and see them working in the kitchen. Helps make everything seem much more fresh!

Yelp
This is an awesome little shop that I'm sure I will be going out of my way to go to fairly often. 1) They have AJ Stephan's ginger beer. A+ for this! 2) They have a mini-fridge full of homemade empanadas (will try these next time) 3) They have a collection of "sparkling lemonades" in a variety of flavors that are out of this world! I got the blood orange last time and made the most amazing mimosas with it. Seriously - go get this now. The guy behind the counter could have been a bit more friendly, but whatevs. I dig this shop. A lot.

Yelp
I think that between Capone's and the Neighborhood being on the same street it is a damn good thing that I moved out of Somerville! I would be broke but terrifically satisfied! Capone's is an Italian speciality store with all the good stuff - cheese, meat, pasta, cheese, cannolis, olives, cheese... Capone's has a good selection of different filled pastas and lots of Italian meals in the freezer section. They also have lots of delish sauces, everything from pesto to plum tomato w/ porcini (one of my faves). They are great at helping you pair your pasta with a sauce that will wow dinner guests (or tempt you to eat the whole pound if you are dining alone!). Last time I was in Capone's I saw that they even had Lobster Mac and Cheese in the freezer - next time, I will be splurging for some of that!

Yelp
This is a family-owned business, a real charmer where the namesake owner still works here along with his daughters. The ready-to-cook lasagna is out of this world, and the daily rotating sandwich is a very good, and filling, incentive for you to return frequently. Along with Dave's Fresh Pasta, I can't think of a better place to buy Italian ingredients, so if you love to cook and you live for Italian food, you definitely need this place on your shortlist of shops!

Yelp
What an awesome place to get impressive foodstuffs for dinner. My boyfriend dragged me in one night to get ingredients and we decided to make pasta with roasted red peppers, sausage, artichokes and olives. We walked out with almost all the ingredients and \ the black pepper papardelle and shallot alfredo. He didn't even ask us how much, just sold us a perfect portion for two with enough left over for someone to have lunch. It was a perfect combination, and dinner was a success. If you are a nerd like me, be sure to grab the pasta/sauce combination spreadsheet. It has every sauce and pasta with a star rating of its tastiness. I can't wait to go back and try some of their ravioli.
