Absolutely love this old Greenpoint gem. Good selection of draft beers and the sweetest polish ladies who have run this joint for a very long time. Unpretentious, spacious setting with great prices.

Capri Social Club is a classic neighborhood gem. Great drinks, laid-back vibes, and a welcoming crowd that makes you feel right at home. The kind of place you pop into for one drink and end up staying awhile. A true Greenpoint staple.

It was nice to find a great dive in my neighborhood! Unpretentious, inexpensive, and only a ten minute walk from the apartment. I’m glad I got to stop here and meet some locals while I was in Greenpoint. I do miss this place and the Irene’s by the subway entrance (now sadly closed).

Have been coming here for a long time, but recently the bartenders have been super rude. They had a skunked keg of Stella to which all my friends ordered. Every single one had spoiled beer. We mutually alerted the bartender and she said too bad!? It was vinegar at this point and she wouldn’t even try it or acknowledge the keg was bad. Safe to say I will be a customer no longer. Really a shame because this is how businesses like this end.

Still largely undiscovered and I hope it stays that way, the Capri has a ton of character and old-school charm. Both the bar and back room are spacious making it a great spot for groups and parties, but it's also perfect if you want to kick back and have a drink on your own or with a date. There's a decent jukebox as well as a TV in case you want to catch a game. And while the beer selection isn't stellar, it's adequate and the prices are relatively low for the neighborhood. The bartenders are laid back as is the overall vibe. I'm just hoping the place doesn't get overrun by hipsters.

Laid back neighborhood dive bar. Great prices and you can order food in. The jukebox gets this place lit late night. EDIT: I moved from NYC and decided to up the review from 4 to 5 stars. I miss it so much. Best neighborhood bar ever.

What was formerly known as Capri Social Club is so normal looking you wouldn't necessarily understand it's cult favorite status in the neighborhood at first glance. Understated would be the best descriptor for this bar known for their PBR's and cheap beer+shot combos. In fact this has been the site of many film sets, chosen for its non regionally specific qualities because from the outside and inside it really does feel like it can be as much a bar located in a town many states over as one right here in Brooklyn, a little out of place among the new buildings and new age cocktail bars that populate the Greenpoint. It isn't just one demographic that you'll find filling most of the seats here either. Different age groups, personalities and backgrounds will find themselves here, much like the makeup of the surrounding neighborhood. A great equalizer of a bar, which is part of the draw. That you can have a raucous conversation with folks you may not otherwise find yourselves rubbing elbows with.

We went here on a really random weeknight. There were 2 other people inside plus the bartender. It was great! I don't know what it's like when it is super busy or crowded, but I loved just sitting there and looking at all of the memorabilia on the walls, and imagining I was in a small town somewhere in mid-America.

This bar is lame! People keep telling me "oh it's for locals" or "oh, this is a blue collar place", and I don't buy any of the excuses. It's just not fun, and the thought of it being any sort of "social club" (See: previous name, categorization on Yelp) is complete hogwash. I mean, they do beer/shot combos for cheap. That's cool I guess, but I had quickly learned it's what half the dives are adhering to. I don't care if their draught selection is sparse, what gets me is how tiny the pours are. I do not think it was even a full 12 oz in my little mug. Maybe 10. Can someone measure this out for me? Goodness gracious I don't like paying pint prices to get just over half a pint. Liquor selection blows. It's cash only, which you'd only know from a very small, inconspicuous sign above the register. And to make matters worse, their ATM was down! And they were completely unaware. Goodness gracious, I'd never come back here.

On the way in, a drunk woman who was not leaving this bar yelled, "This is the best bar in Greenpoint!" Thanks! The bar was pretty great. It's large and easy to move around. I could leave my coat and it did not get stolen. They also have plentiful water and a coat rack in the back, which is good for maybe 10 people (there were way more than 10 people there). I really liked the bartender. She was incredibly nice even though I was very disappointed it's CASH ONLY. Mind you, I wasn't surprised. I was disappointed in myself, not the bar for that. They have an ATM, too, and we literally passed my bank on the way there. I had no one to blame for that but myself. The cups for the water jug are all styrofoam. Can you please please please change to recyclable plastic, preferably cardboard, or something compostable? Styrofoam is just so bad for the environment and this is NYC in 2019. We're all better than styrofoam. This place also gets 3 stars for the bathrooms. There are two, a woman's and men's. Since the woman's restroom was literally just a single person restroom (for a huge bar), I assumed the men's was the same, but no. My boyfriend informed me that the men's bathroom had one stall with a toilet and two urinals... -_- That's just unfair and strange. The women's restroom line was unnecessarily long. Otherwise, the bar is fine. The drinks are cheap. There's no reason to really hate it or love it. Would probably come back, especially for shots, but it's not my first choice.

Definitely an older Greenpoint spot, which I can appreciate. You walk in, and are instantly transported to another time--and simultaneously realize that the neighborhood you're in has seemed to have changed quickly. But it's an old bar, no frills, place to hang out and meet. I also appreciate the large water cooler in the back where you can go help yourself without needing to bother the bartender.

Two words, Jell-O shots. Yes I'm in my 30's.... I don't care. Also this bar is in every movie & tv show so it's fun to see your local joint so widely appreciated for it great scenery.

I love this miserable place :) I love the furniture, I love the gloomy atmosphere, I love the fact that I can sit there alone and meditate But I would like it to have less TV and more good music, like really good.

Is it Irish or Polish? Best place in Greenpoint to get an Afternoon drink when youre girlfriend tells you she needs to get off the pill because it "suppressing her artistic intellect". They got these really little beers here+ they got some really big clients though = lots of little beer drinking Sometimes the lady goes to the bar directly across from the other bar and does something over there. and... you guys heard of HD TV? well they have this thing called Cathode Ray Tube TV, and its awesome, at first it looks like no def (NDTV) or dissapointment def (DDTV) but after a few drinks..... well i Guess youll have to tell ME...

The Capri Social Club, aka "Irene's Bar" is a pseudo-members-only blue collar bar owned by the fiesty proprietess Irene, a youthful-cum-60s Polish lass with a sense of sass. Mose nights, the place is completely empty, save for a few old ladies asleep at the bar, and Justin Timberlake blaring at block-shaking volume from the jukebox. Sporadically, on Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights, you get an eclectic mix of locals, locals, and locals. Sometimes it's all 46yo firefighters, sometimes you find a few wayward Studio B hipsters trying to figure out how to have a good time inside.

Located just far enough off Manhattan Ave. to be overlooked, the Capri social club is a historic Brooklyn bar that deserves a visit. Once inside, it's hard not to appreciate the eclectic mix of Italian, Irish, and local influence built up over a long history of local patronage. From outside, I can see why this place might be intimidating. As a social club, most casual visitors believe they are not welcome, but this cannot be further from the truth. Yes, it's privately owned, but the owner, bartenders, and regulars are just about the most welcoming inviting people you will ever meet. In fact, on my second visit I felt like I was walking into a family reunion. While on the typical night you will not find a crowd, during the summer months (just about every other Friday or Saturday) this place is packed to the brim with customers ranging in age from early 20's to late 80's. If you haven't been on a busy summer night, you've really never experienced this bar at its full potential. In summation, this bar deserves another look. And while it's hard to believe, on busy summer nights, there is no better bar to be at in Brooklyn.

Great atmosphere, super friendly polish bartenders who serve six dollar strong mixies. Great jukebox too! Come here on a weekend night for an eclectic mix of locals and younger crowd. I always get into the best conversations either at the bar or out back by the smoking entrance. Probably the best to date has been this sweet polish lady who thought me a proper handshake (about time I guess)..

The bathrooms are so clean it felt like I was going to the bathroom in someone's parents house. Love the crowd. Low key and fun.

Went there for a drink before a dance performance down the street. Limited choice of draft beers. Happy hour choices also a bit limited. The bartender was very sweet though and was friendly. Nice little place. Not crowded or insane. Just wish they had more happy hour deals

Lady at bar was unattentive. Says doors close at 3. We were finishing drinks at 2 and she stared us down to leave. I understand if you're trying to get home lady but please be nice and say it rather than stare down and then smoke a cigarette in the bar while you clean up. We would totally understand if you're tired if you verbally communicate rather than staring us down to chug our well paid for beverages. By Capri, see you never.

I've been coming here since I moved to NYC six years ago. It's a legitimately no-frills, authentic, friendly bar. I love this place.

Great dive bar. Locals and a fixture in this neighborhood for years. Friendly staff and very welcoming for a gentrified neighborhood. Drinks are good and they have specials all the time. Go to spot for those weeknights afterwork.

The sexual energy of a bar gets charged up quickly when Johnny arrives forgetting to wear his wedding ring

I love this place. It's unlike any other bar I've come across. Not fancy or anything. Authentic. Every time I go I meet some locals who have lived in Greenpoint their whole life and are super friendly to me. AND it's not overrun with hipsters which is so hard to find around here..!

Nice place to get a drink. HOWEVER, bartender got all amateur hour with my friend and I. Don't come in looking too brown cuz you'll get the Greenpoint smug stare and worse off. You leave 30 bucks in the table and the bartender swipes money and still tries to gank you for a measly 12 bucks. lmao. Really? Brown people stay away.

I remember passing by the bar that used to be here and wishing I had the guts to come in. I love dive bars, but it looked a little intimidating. The new place doesn't put on any airs and feels like a real neighborhood joint! The bartender I had was really sweet, local news was on, and it felt calm and homey with local people having a good time. If I lived closer I'd make this my go-to spot.

I went here the other night. Had LOTS of fun... and left my wallet. I got a text from the bartender the next morning and Irene personally returned it to me that day. She is so sweet. I've always loved this place but her kindness really made it for me. Thank you so much!

It's a pretty basic bar. Don't go here unless you're a greenpoint native. Not a fan of the male bartender here. Pretty rude. On the plus side they have a juke box but they seem to favor listening to sports on Friday and Saturday night which kind of dampens the mood to a dreary bar feel. They prefer sports over cool music. Fine at other times but not when its peak going out time.

The locals treat the incoming flood of kids coming to drink here with respect. But there are enough locals to keep it from getting annoyingly hip. Irene, the owner is super sweet. I've never had bad service or a bad experience here. I watch a lot of the hockey games here and there are always other fans to celebrate and commiserate with. Also $1 Jell-O shots.

I have to be honest: this is not usually my kind of establishment, but I ventured here for a friend's birthday party. He lived in Greenpoint for many years and took a liken to this place. Inside it does remind me of a down-home country bar. One you'd likely see in a movie in which the protagonist goes looking for some obscure outlaw who doesn't play by the rules and ends up getting roughed up. In fact, the entire time I was there I kept playing that scene out in my head. With that being said, it's really casual if you're looking for something extremely informal. Frequent by a lot of hipsters, naturally. It is in Greenpoint. It has some remnants of college. There are IPAs, of course, but there are also jello shots. Very few places you can purchase ready-made jello shots with the right amount of jello-to-alcohol ratio. The music doesn't stray from country/bluegrass. So it would help if you're a fan of these genres. On the night I visited the bar was packed and there was one bartender. She was doing the best she could but it made a lot of people haggard. So much so, a number of people went to the nearby grocery and convenience stores to purchase their own alcohol. All in all, it wasn't a terrible experience. I'd say only go to this place if you're looking to have a few beers at a low-key, casual place, with friends.

My friends sister had her birthday here; and we all came bye after work. It is a nice little neighborhood bar, and the prices are reasonable. The music wasnt super loud, which I enjoyed. If Im ever in the neighborhood I'll drop bye again.

The bartender turned all of the lights off and refused service to a group of at least 10-15 people starting around 2:30. Not okay. The hours posted outside stated that the bar is open until 4am. We were all tipping well, not acceptable if your hours say you are open later. I only gave an extra star because at least the drinks were strong.

this place has so much potential it KILLS me that it's not more popular. $1 jello shots, $2 PBR (all the time), $5 well drinks, awesome old school juke box (hello eric clapton, do you perhaps do the twist?), photo hunt, SPACE (tons of space! booths, tables, an extra bar?!), sweet older bartenders... sigh. i could live here. instead i will drag all my friends here one by one to keep me company. if you're in the area, definitely check it out! pregame, post-game, mid-day... no one's judging at this bar.

I confess - I was scared to go in here for quite some time. I didn't wanna intrude on the older folks with my youth and style and whatnot. I assumed they wouldn't want me around. But I was wrong, this place is a part of Greenpoint history and hanging out with the regulars was like the funnest and funniest Greenpoint History 101 class. The jukebox had all those sweet tunes, the beers were so cheap. You just have to go along with it and smile. And the back area! It's a members only club, remember...

I agree with Anna K. This is the place to go for a relaxing good time. It is like walking back in time...the bar and back room are filled with reminders from every decade. Once you walk through the doors you can't help but feel welcomed. The mix of people coming in and hanging out are from every age group. We came on a night when they had two bands playing. I heard that they do this every last Saturday of the month. Entertainment and cheap drinks...what a combination. The jello shots are the clincher. So if you want to have a spot to hang out and converse with friends with a great crowd...this is the place to go.

Great bar off the strip in GP. Nothing fancy or gimmicky which makes this bar a hit. Drinks and dancing and the back room. Will always come back for more.
