Located just far enough off Manhattan Ave. to be overlooked, the Capri social club is a historic Brooklyn bar that deserves a visit. Once inside, it's hard not to appreciate the eclectic mix of Italian, Irish, and local influence built up over a long history of local patronage.
From outside, I can see why this place might be intimidating. As a social club, most casual visitors believe they are not welcome, but this cannot be further from the truth. Yes, it's privately owned, but the owner, bartenders, and regulars are just about the most welcoming inviting people you will ever meet. In fact, on my second visit I felt like I was walking into a family reunion.
While on the typical night you will not find a crowd, during the summer months (just about every other Friday or Saturday) this place is packed to the brim with customers ranging in age from early 20's to late 80's. If you haven't been on a busy summer night, you've really never experienced this bar at its full potential.
In summation, this bar deserves another look. And while it's hard to believe, on busy summer nights, there is no better bar to be at in Brooklyn.
