Where to Enjoy a Glass of Chardonnay This Summer in New York | Eater

"This neighborhood favorite nails the Italian comfort food brief and does it with a charming outdoor setup that feels like your cousin’s backyard (if your cousin had excellent taste in wine). Caprese salad, linguine with clams, and a glass of Harken Chardonnay make a convincing case for never cooking at home again." - Julia Gómez Kramer

Google
Amazing does not even describe the food here. I could have picked the plate clean of gnocchi in bolognese cream sauce!! Nice atmosphere and service on point.

They don't take reservations. We went in on a Saturday at 7 pm and we were seated at 8 pm. We didn't mind we say by the bar and they texted us when our table was ready. The food was good and service was great.

We had an amazing experience at this Italian restaurant! From start to finish, everything was perfect — the food, the atmosphere, and especially the service. Our waitress, Hayley, was outstanding. We had a small issue with our food, but she handled it quickly and professionally, making sure we were completely taken care of. Thanks to her, we felt truly valued as guests. I would 100% come back again with friends and family. A1 establishment — kudos to the entire team! Keep up the great work!

I loved this restaurant! I went with my boyfriend and sat outside and enjoyed the prettiest view. I also enjoyed that the service was prompt and that our waitress was very courteous. Finally, the food was delicious and was enough for leftovers, which I appreciated.

My mom threw my baby shower here yesterday and I’m so happy with how everything went! She couldn’t have chosen a better place. The restaurant is beautiful! It’s on the smaller side and has an intimate ambience to it. The food is delicious and the portion size is very generous. The staff were also so kind! Sergio and the rest of the staff were so accommodating and helpful with the set up of the event as well as throughout the entirety of the party. Would highly recommend this place for hosting a party or even just for a meal out!

We went with friends for the lunch special. There's plenty of free parking in the back. The ambiance of the restaurant is excellent as was the service. The $28.00 lunch special includes an appetizer, full size entree, dessert and coffee. I got the house salad, chicken parm, a cannoli and decaf. Everything was delicious.

Yelp
Whenever we're in the area, we make it a point to stop by Cara Mia, and it never disappoints. The food is consistently delicious, no matter what we order, and the staff is always friendly and attentive. It's the kind of place that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. We've tried a bunch of different dishes over the years, and everything has been top-notch. The rigatoni fiorentina is one of our absolute favorites. This entree is rich, flavorful, and done just right every time. Even when we can't dine in, we'll swing by and pick something up to take home. It's that good. Whether it's a quick bite or a full dinner, Cara Mia has become one of our go-to spots in Seaford.

Yelp
I received a couple of gift cards for this restaurant and decided to try it out. The food was good, delicious and pleasing. The servers made sure that we were kept hydrated and was very quick to attend to our needs. Although the restaurant is comparatively smaller. we never felt on top of other patrons. We enjoyed the food and definitely will be back.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem. The food is always incredible and service is always on point. Cute little restaurant so if wanting to go at a busier time definitely try to get a reservation. The cavatelli and burrata and pesto rigatoni are my top two pastas (love to add chicken cutlet to both as it's so thin and perfectly crispy and delicious). The baked clams and sausage and broccoli rabe egg rolls are both amazing as well!

Yelp
In an area saturated with restaurants it is hard to find a great one let alone a great one that has been around for a while. Classy and delicious is the first thing that comes to mind. Professional and friendly service too. Large portions and a varied and interesting menu. Chicken, Veal, and a huge bowl of seafood Frutta di Mare are the stars. Well-lit yet intimate setting and tolerable noise level round out a great dining experience. Full bar and wine list reservations are a must and parking lot behind the restaurant can get crowded. Come here.

Yelp
Arrived at 5:30pm on a Saturday night and there was a half hour wait for a table of 4. They don't take reservations on Saturdays, and the waiting area by the bar was tight. When we eventually got seated, service was prompt and attentive. We ordered the mussels in oreganata sauce to start, and thoroughly enjoyed this app. For entrees, we ordered the flounder, black linguine, rigatoni fiorentina, and spaghetti and meatballs. Everyone enjoyed their food overall, but the shrimp in the black linguine was overcooked. Will definitely return!

Yelp
I've driven past Cara Mia many times and finally got a chance to have dinner here. Everything was wonderful - the staff, the food, the drinks. My friends and I shared the broccoli rabe egg rolls, the shrimp monachino (highly recommend!! I never order shrimp when I go out to eat buy boy am I glad that my friend wanted them), the cavatelli with burrata and the chicken saltimbocca. The cosmos were the perfect color pink - because if you don't judge your Cosmo by the color then are you even drinking a good Cosmo? and the pumpkin espresso martini are what dreams are made of. I really loved out dinner and can't wait to come back. Shout out to Ryan our waiter and the bartender working that night - wonderful staff!

Yelp
Came here for a nice girls night and was not disappointed. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday so we grabbed a round of drinks at the bar while we waited for a table-bartender was super friendly. I stuck to wine the whole night until dessert where I had to get the pumpkin espresso martini. I'm here for all the fall drinks and this was divine! We started with the broccoli rabe egg rolls-not my fav but the others enjoyed them. For entrees, we split the shrimp monachino-omg this dish was to die for. It was so flavorful, it was my favorite of the 3. We also got the cavatelli with burrata and the chicken saltimbocca ...the chicken was ok but would prob try something different next time but the pasta was excellent. The portions were huge, very easily split 3 ways and our server Ryan was very friendly. I would def come again.

Yelp
Excellent for many decades. They were in Queens Village in the 1960s, we'd walk there as teenagers.

Yelp
We came here twice so I felt like it was time to give a review. The first time we sat outside during the summer in the little alleyway which was nicely decorated with string lights. The last time we went we sat inside of course. It is a quaint little Italian restaurant. Our waitress was very sweet. We jumped right into our meals this time, but last time we enjoyed the broccoli rabe egg rolls. I had the spicy rigatoni which was a spicy a la vodka sauce topped with 2 burrata balls and my husband had a fish special stuffed with lobster. We ended with cappuccinos and creme brulee which was delicious. You won't go home hungry!

Yelp
We had my daughter's baby shower at Cara Mia in Seaford, and it went so great that I had to write a review. Sergio is managing the restaurant and he spoke with me on the phone and met with me several times before the big day. He was patient, kind, gave me great suggestions and was very responsive. He was so flexible- every request I had was "no problem"! Jose and Ashley were working our party and they were both excellent. Their service was impeccable. They were polite, obviously very knowledgeable and efficient. The quality of the food was outstanding, as usual. Many of our guests had never been to Cara Mia before- but now it's on their list of great restaurants to eat at. Cara Mia Restaurant in Seaford is an excellent venue for a private party! Great for just a regular dinner as well

Yelp
This intimate restaurant with a cute outdoor space seemed perfect for a small birthday gathering with family. Overall the food was decent, we tried the tortellini soup which was REALLY good. All the entrees were good. The flounder my MIL got was pretty small but all other meals were well portioned and came with pasta or side salad. Our waitress attempted to be nice, but I just didn't get a great vibe from her as her answers were short and at times, rude. All other staff were friendly and helpful. I'm glad we tried this restaurant but not sure I'd go back.

Rosemarie V.

Yelp
The food was delish, service was very good & attentive, ambiance is very polished & comfortable. I recommend this restaurant one of the best.

Yelp
Great celebration at Cara Mia of Seaford! Family birthday celebration with out standing service and the most tasteful delicious meals conveniently located on Merrick Road. Community minded & Family owned/operated. We have had many dinners, attended Business meetings & celebrations within this restaurant, which is quiet and is the perfect family setting.

Yelp
I was expecting way more from this place . But i came to find out it's just highly overrated. The food was close to mediocre, the service was super slow . The ambiance was alright . The outside seating area . Is nicer than inside .

Yelp
I've been here a few times and every time I go it gets better! They don't take reservations so my group of 8 went at 5 PM on a Saturday and didn't have an issue getting seated, but by 5:30/6, every table was taken. We got a few apps which included mozzarella sticks, calamari, zucc sticks. For the main meal I got eggplant rollatini which was SOOOOO GOOD which came with a side of any pasta I wanted. I had leftovers for the next day. Staff is friendly and atmosphere is clean! Thanks!

Janine G.

Yelp
My husband and I came to cara mia Saturday night and everything from the staff, to the ambiance, and food was absolutely impeccable. Our server Emma was extremely helpful when it came to the menu and her service was some of the best we've ever gotten on the island. We tried the pasta special and it was AMAZING. Definitely coming back here!!!!!!

Yelp
Food is always great. Look forward every weekend to view and eat specials. Staff is friendly and attentive. Ambiance is great nice vibe good feeling

Yelp
I have been coming here since they first opened in Queens! The best Italian food in New York!!! Everything is freshly made and the portions are large. The baked chopped clams are amazing, as is the Chicken Capri and Chicken Sweet Melissa! Carlo and the staff make this such a pleasurable dining experience!!

Wendy M.

Yelp
Good food and nice service Loud and a bit annoying sound volume and I don't like restaurant that do not take reservations But good --was above average
google avatar

Joe T.

Yelp
Lunch was a 2 star experience. The inflated 4.5 star rating is simply inaccurate. Spaghetti and meatballs was really disappointing like ragu out of the jar with overly breaded meatballs. Nothing good to say about it. Chicken marsala also no taste, sauce overly sweet. No way these dishes were prepared by an Italian chef. Bread was good, Caesar salad was good. You can do as good or better with take out from a pizza place.
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic!! Food Service You name it! The best! I can no longer have tomatoes. So what am I doing at an Italian restaurant? Enjoying the best Pesto on Long Island!!!

Yelp
We use to love this place. Ordered all the time. Always received generous portions of delicious food. We ordered pasta today and only received half of the container. Each order is 25$. Plus 4 small pieces of white bread. Very disappointed. Will have to explore other option now.

Patti L.

Yelp
First time eating here. Nice ambiance, waitress was outstanding. Unfortunately the best part of the meal was the cocktails. I had the blueberry bliss and my husband had a vodka martini. To start with we had the baked clams and the arugula salad. For main course we had the chicken saltimbocca and the pork chop valdostano. Everything was lacking in flavor. The breadcrumbs on the clams were mushy. We were disappointed.

Catherine S.

Yelp
First time going there and was very impressed. Staff was attentive, food was hot and delicious. Diffently will go again

Yelp
One of my favorites Italians restaurant. Good food, the service is pretty good . They can get busy . Nice small bar but they make great drinks.

Cindy O.

Yelp
Last night my family once again did a take out order from Car Mia. When we picked it up, everything was hot and the complete order was there. Everyone enjoyed their delicious dinners and we will definitely be returning to Cara Mia.

Yelp
First time at the Seaford location, and was very satisfied with our meal. No reservations taken, but when we arrived the hostess took down our name and number and gave us a call when our table was ready, so we could walk around a bit while we waited. The bread basket was phenomenal with multiple types of bread, and both the mozzarella sticks and caprese salad we had as appetizers were delicious - though the marinara with the mozzarella sticks gave off tomato soup flavor vibes. For the main, I had the cavatelli and burrata with spicy vodka sauce, which was so creamy, saucy, and delicious with perfectly cooked pasta. My friend had the gnocchi bolognese which she also found super saucy, tender, and delicious. Definitely a place we'll be back to - highly recommend!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Do you like Chicken Marsala!? I like it too! How do you like your Chicken Marsala regular, creamy or aldente!? Just regular I guess. Regular! Cara Mia in Seaford makes a delicious Chicken Marsala seasoned to perfection served in a yummy marsala sauce with suculant mushrooms & the stuffed Rigatoni was a very flavorful dish aswell! Its no surprise Cara Mia is considered one of the best Italian restaurants in seatown Baby!
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
By far the best salad and grilled shrimp I've ever had- whenever we go or get take out, the Russo chopped with 2 orders of grilled shrimp is my go to. (I'm very picky with fish and their shrimp is always perfect) The restaurant itself is a warm and cozy vibe - one of my favorite places for a date night with my hubby or dinner with the girls. Def make a reservation as it's small and gets busy quick!
google avatar

Tara L.

Yelp
Went to Cara Mia a few nights ago, I had such a great waiter named Ryan. He was so attentive and polite. The chicken parmigiana was fantastic. They also make the best homemade dressing for the house salad. I can't forget about the calamari, I loved it. They include not only the calamari tubes, but also the squid legs, my favorite!!
google avatar

Yelp
Cara Mia is a nice restaurant with fresh good quality dishes. It is rated highly in the area for Italian food. I would say the things that surprised me and were less than I anticipated when visiting were... First, the menu is pretty standard as standard comes. Not much in the way of creativity or individuality with the selection. Straight chicken parmigiana, vodka pasta, etc... They did have one thing that was different and stood out. It was a sausage and broccoli rabe egg roll. Delicious, different and we enjoyed it. They should put more things in the menu like that. Also while clean and neat establishment, it kinda felt a little plain towards the from by the window. Meaning not a lot of decor type atmosphere. I mean you are taking your date for a dinner and you want to feel a little more than sitting in an open front window eating like your in a fish bowl being watched. Maybe some window treatments, or even a classy frosted window decorative sticker or a chandelier hanging form the ceiling would dress it up. They definitely do a good job but for me to come back and spend money that's you drop on a dinner I would prefer some more interesting menu choices and a warmer decor.

Kathleen K.

Yelp
Love to go there great menu with great eggplant dinner and really good service and a nice atmosphere
google avatar

Gabrielle D.

Yelp
We went here on a cold Friday night for a date night without a reservation and got sat within minutes of arriving. The restaurant is very cozy and down to earth. The service was great. Their menu is full of variety. The baked clams were very good. My husband got the chicken parm and I got the Chicken Sorrentino and it was spectacular. One of the best chicken dishes ever: juicy, flavorful, sweet from the marsala, salty from tbe prosciutto, freshness from the eggplant! Will definitely come back here.

Yelp
We had been here years ago and it was good, but now its our go-to spot for italian food locally. They just know how to cook!!! Proteins perfect, pasta and sauce's outstanding with the gnocchi being the best and most perfectly cooked we have ever had. Service also excellent for such a tight and busy spot. Small place so prepare to wait as no reservations for small groups less than 6 but its worth it I assure you!!! Enjoy!
google avatar

Amanda D.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! Delicious food, fabulous drinks and great ambiance. One of my favorite go to spots!

Carol L.

Yelp
The staff is great helpful and friendly. The food is wonderful. One of the best Italian restaurants on the Long Island. The ambiance is great though at times a little noisy.

Yelp
Cute Itialian restaurant and setting. The atmosphere was very busy and they do not take reservations,it's first come first serve. The waiters were friendly but also very busy. The food was good and portio was huge, but wasn't outstanding, maybe it was the dishes we ordered. I'm glad I tired it because it was recommended but I don't think I would make a trip to go back there.

Yelp
6/8/19 I've seen some pictures on Instagram and I kept saying I have to try this place out. I finally did and had a fantastic time. To start there's street parking and also a parking lot in the back. We arrived around 6pm and hostess seated us right away. Complimentary assorted breads and bruschetta came out immediately. Danielle (Dani) was our waitress and she sealed the deal for the 5 star rating. She was incredibly sweet and informative. She took great care of us and checked in on us. She told us about some her favorite dishes which my fiancée and I are now looking forward to trying. I love amazing service! And now onto the food! Baked clams- I wasn't a fan tasted way too fishy to me. I have baked clams often and don't recall this taste. Zucchini flower- a special and it was delicious! Fried and stuffed with cheese, marinara sauce on the side. Spicy vodka with burrata- Amazing! I love fresh homemade pasta. It was cooked perfectly! Just enough sauce and the burrata delicious as well. We wanted to try their veal special but unfortunately were too full so we ordered some cappuccinos. They were great and piping hot just as I like! I read some reviews about prices being on the high side. To be honest with you I found the prices to be incredibly fair. I really look forward to coming back due to the amazing service and great food!
google avatar

Amanda I.

Yelp
We did take out and the food was delicious. It didn't even lose its quality despite not dining in!
google avatar

Russ W.

Yelp
... first time ... recommended by my sister ... food was very good ... small, very busy room ... not an intimate establishment, so not appropriate for a private rendezvous, better suited for enjoying a good meal with friends ...
google avatar

Aanchal K.

Yelp
Saw a picture of their rigatoni pesto with burrata yesterday morning and ended up having dinner there last night! My friend and I were excited to try this spot after the hype on social media. Getting there, the entrance was slightly confusing because if you're on the main road, there's like an alley you go through to enter the restaurant - definitely looks suspicious if you're there for the first time but after 40 seconds you notice the cute seating and art work outside, then the entrance. We were seated immediately with several menus - drinks, wines, specials and the regular menu. We didn't want wine- we wanted sangria (not on the menu) but they do offer it! It was yummy! We also got complimentary bread and butter, and my friend was in LOVE with the bread (I didn't try it). We were able to order the cavatelli cara mia (cavatelli in a spicy vodka sauce with burrata) and rigatoni pesto w/ burrata. Both dishes were absolutely AMAZING and I had no complaints. Super saucy, and the dishes are large but shallow. After 5-6 bites, you'll be full. The spicy sauce from the cavatelli with some red pepper flakes was delicious and spicy, and it really mixed well with the salty pesto. The only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5, is because it's a bit pricey for pasta (no steak or chicken in the pasta) but it's still worth it!

Joe F.

Yelp
Food and service far superior in Floral park! Been to Seaford few times will not go back after I noticed that my server charged me for a tap soda refill 3x ! Am spending a few hundred dollars and then you want to hit the customer in the head for what cost cents to refill !? Shame on the waitress who then expects 20% n more AND I TIP BIG !
google avatar

Christopher A.

Yelp
Cute, warm and cozy place right on Merrick Road close to Seaford Cinemas. Waiter and bus boy service was very attentive. Food was meh.... Granted we didn't order any of the specials or higher-end entrees. Granted we never asked "what's good tonight?".....My review is based on some lower-end menu ordering on a recent Friday night visit with my daughter. Me, I ordered broccoli rabe and sausage (not on the menu, but they accommodated). Sausage was well done almost burnt, broccoli rabe was good, plenty of garlic. Daughter ordered angel hair and meatballs. Meatballs were were over way, way over powered with oregano, she was very disappointed. So.... not sure to give 'em another shot, first impression wasn't that good, but the cozy atmosphere and spot on service, may bring me back and ask this time........what's good tonight ?" 11/20/18 Update, owner Sergio graciously reached out to me personally, very professional and appreciated. I truly enjoy when owners are proud of their business and try to make things right. I will try Cara Mia Due again, and give a follow up review.

Yelp
Not a fan I even gave it a second try & wasn't happy with the food at all I don't recommend Cara Mia
google avatar

Yelp
food is excellent. i've passed this place many times and finally got around to trying it with my family and was not disappointed- the specials are delicious!

Yelp
Sadly this restaurant lost its magic for me. The quality of the food has gone down the last two times I've gone. They even got rid of their homemade portobello ravioli. So disappointing.

Yelp
Have ordered take out a few times from here. Staff is really friendly and helpful. Food is tasty but what I really love is how accommodating they always are. If it's not on the menu, they'll still make it for you.
