My wife and I decided to get Mexican food for dinner Friday night. We were thinking about a Mexican restaurant we had taken her Mom to the weekend before for her birthday. They have a drive through, so I thought cool, we can call in an order and pick it up and take it home. Then we started thinking about what we had there, and how it compared to other Mexican restaurants we had been to before. The queso and rice were kind of bland, my enchiladas were pretty good. The red sauce was smokey and flavorful, but my wife said it was too hot for her, so we decided not to go there this time. My wife remembered Carambas Spanish Inn, and I remembered it being ok, so we went online to see if they had a menu to choose from. We had a hard time finding a menu to order from, but finally found a picture someone had taken of the menu and posted it online. It wasn't complete, but good enough for us. I called in an order, and the guy that took my order was very helpful. We drove over to pick up the food, and I asked the guy if he had a printed menu we could take home, but he said no, we really need to do something about that. He took my credit card to pay for the meal, and while it was processing he pulled one of their menus from under the counter and gave it to us! I actually put a five dollar tip on my bill just for his kindness. The meal was better than I remembered. The queso had lots of flavor, as did the rice, and the enchiladas were as good if not better than the ones I had at the afore mentioned restaurant. My wife really liked her Mary's dinner( a lot of their dinners have names). We will definitely go back there again. I don't understand some of the negative reviews, it's like they weren't talking about the same place we went to. Sometimes I think the reviewers have a different agenda other than giving an honest opinion of the place they are reviewing. I believe some of the reviewers are family or friends of other competing restaurants, and are just trying to berate them for no other reason than to get customers to try other restaurants. I am not a food critic by any means, but I know what I like. I have had Mexican food all over Texas(and Arkansas, don't ask how that went), and besides my favorite Mexican restaurant in Houston, Carambas will be my go to place in Midland from now on.
