"Cardinal bar in Grant Park was a favorite off-the-clock spot for many, including industry workers and food writers. Its closure has had a profound impact on its regulars." - Beth McKibben

"Kathryn DiMenichi and Holli Medley announced the temporary closure of their Grant Park bar Cardinal at the Beacon on Sunday on Instagram in order to “support efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19.” The bar was set to celebrate one year in business on March 27. DiMenichi and Medley also own adjoining neighborhood market Third Street Goods at the complex, which they plan to focus their efforts on now." - Beth McKibben

Hidden in the back of Third Street Goods, this cocktail bar is a great little spot for a quick snack and a drink. The menu featured 7 cocktails and 8 types of sherry and vermouth. Each sherry or vermouth was served differently — a great little feature that sets this place apart. The space is open and dark with lots of cool architectural features throughout the bar. I really enjoyed my Slick Ricky cocktail featuring mezcal, a one-of-a-kind bay leaf syrup, lime, and salt. This place definitely belongs on the Atlanta cocktails list, it’s relatively new and still a hidden gem.

The ambiance here is wonderful. Staff members were smiling and friendly as were the patrons. The fact these ladies are super smart in recognizing Atlanta had a missing element which they're adding is terrific. One sherry, one rose' vermouth, a bourbon cocktail and all were on point. The food was delicious, the eggplant on toast and the fried tofu are flavorful and filling. This is a gem of a place and will be impossible to frequent once word gets out. Double edged sword in writing this as part of me is wanting to keep it to myself and other part wants to shoot it from the rooftop!

Lovely place - the drinks are top notch, the ambience is lovely and a fresh break from typical atlanta bars, the staff is friendly and great! Great addition! Added bonus - run by the awesome women running 3rd st goods!

Exceptional cocktails and great food & mood. Managed to build a cocktail recipe of really unique and inspired drinks. The funky cider is something I’m always on the hunt for; very few places have. Also love the sherry menu. All the food we ate was incredible too. Really cool mood would be great for dates, small parties, and people who like to sit at the bar (me/us).

Love love love. This gem is hidden away speak easy-style behind Third Street Goods, a local grocer (also fabulous but I’ll post that review separately). You enter through the patio and travel down a long hallway to the bar. The vibe is dark and luxurious with antique furniture, beautifully curated art adorning the walls, a lovely hardwood bar and sexy as hell leather seating for the intimate tables that seat anywhere from two people up to fifteen. The cocktails. Can I just say slammable? Perfectly balanced with ingredients sourced regionally they are simply scrumptious. They have an amazing and unique wine and sherry list. The sherry/vermouth bottle service was so awesome, served with perfect cold draft ice cubes and all the accompanying garnishes and mixers, it was definitely a show stopper. The food at cardinal is not to be missed. Crusty French bread with salty whipped organic butter, marinated olives and feta with herbs, seared mortadella sandwiches with house-made mustard and pickles, sardines with fresh herb salad and toast points. But my favorite is the braised zucchini in spicy red clam sauce served over heavily charred sourdough rubbed with garlic and tiny oregano leaves sprinkled on top as well as a drizzle of fresh olive oil. Man I could cry it’s so good. Try Cardinal. You’ll be so glad you did.

Cocktails were good. My friends frequent here so I want to like this place. I’d be willing to try again- but a misunderstanding with the ower involving a situation I wasn’t involved in (2 of my friends were and they left immediately after) really rubbed me the wrong way. I also felt really singled out even though I wasn’t involved. Things were said and apologies could have been given on both sides (owners and those involved). But I was extremely uncomfortable about how it was handled and ultimately left.

I figured I would do Cardinal justice with a proper review. I have come a few times and it is always exquisite. Low key, delicious, fancy in its own ambiguity, yet unpretentious. It is perfect in all ways and I'm glad Grant Park finally got a bar that's so perfect.

Was really excited to try this place out and was sadly disappointed. For the record I did like the drinks, overall vibe was solid, and the food was ok-ish. Things were going OK until the owner came over and was overly aggressive, disrespectful, and basically totally weirded me out. I'm all for respecting other's opinions and viewpoints but (and maybe I'm wrong here) kind of think in a retail / restaurant environment you don't need to shove your aggressive opinions and beliefs down the throats of your customers. Honesty, couldn't get out of here fast enough. Probably the weirdest and honestly worst experience I've had at a restaurant/ bar. Seriously weird and crazy.
