9 Portland Places That Raise More Questions Than Answers

"Perhaps the most intimate way to familiarize yourself with a culture and its people is to visit a local artisan’s market—to see the colors, shapes, and designs that linger deep in the region’s collective subconscious. And while so few of us are able to see every corner of this vast globe in our brief mortal visits, one Portland importer has done their best to consolidate a world’s worth of craft into one gorgeously curated space.  Cargo occupies a historic 20,000 square-foot multi-level brick warehouse in Portland’s Central Eastside neighborhood. With founder and ceramicist Patty Merrill alongside co-owner and interior designer Brigid Blackburn at the helm, the space is professionally designed and its wares elegantly curated to be both a feast for the eyes and an exacting test of your ability to “just look.” Everything except the old-growth timber beams and soaring ceilings that make up the building is for sale. The space erupts in a smattering of patterns, textures, and objects that together comprise a landscape of global craftwork. A range of forms is represented, from textiles to trinkets, furniture to flatware, bric-a-brac, and beyond. Over the years, they’ve engaged artists from Guatemala, the Philippines, Japan, India, Mali, and Mexico.  While the venture began as a one-business importer and vendor, Cargo has since expanded to include several other local makers and importers into their empire of wares. Among them is Tasi, a jeweler working with internationally-sourced antique beads; Xuxo, which imports indigenous styles of Mexican pillows, shawls, and bags from collectives in Chiapas and Oaxaca; and Giraffe, a Japanese convenience store with grab n’ go bento boxes, sandos, and more. With an ever-changing inventory that seems to burst at the seams even in this sweeping building, there’s a world’s-worth to look at, no matter how many times you visit." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

16 Best Things to Do in Portland, Oregon

"Combining the talents and passions of ceramicist and art collector Patty Merrill and interior designer Bridgid Blackburn, this emporium’s tagline is “purveyors of curious objects,” and that’s putting things mildly—walk up the steep stairs into the unassuming historic inner eastside warehouse and into what feels like a treasure hunter’s fever dream, particularly if you’re a seeker of rare, handcrafted, meaningfully-made, and sustainably-sourced textiles, jewelry, and home decor. While much of the inventory hails from distant lands like India, Israel, Bali, Vietnam, and Guatemala, there’s plenty of local artisan presence too, both on shelves and via the pop-ups nested within the store." - Jen Stevenson

Google
If you’re looking for one of a kind treasures this is the place! 2 stocked floors that will take hours to adequately admire. Every nook and cranny is jam packed with beauties. It’s like World Market if Cost Plus kept each item unique and not reproducible. There are standard, stock items, and then a revolving display of options.

I want to live inside this store! It's all gorgeous and so fun! Very eclectic inventory with a mix of old and new. There is something to look at everywhere and the decor is creative and transportive. Totally reminds me of how Anthropologie used to be. Staff is helpful, and there is also a bathroom available. For kimono lovers, there is a great selection of men's and women's kimono (though a lack of Haori), along with juban, obi (mostly fukuro), and some accessories. Probably the best in the city. Behind the museum Cafe has a couple kimono but the selection here is much larger. Not to mention more teaware available, like chawan. I was sad to miss their annual kimono sidewalk sale as I was in town visiting and unable to accommodate it into our itinerary. But apparently it's a big deal and if you live close by or can time your visit to the sale, I recommend it. They have inventory for it that is not put out a majority of the year.

Google
New fave store! I wish it was near my house! Beautiful textiles from around the world, great book selection, incredible architectural pieces and furniture… I could live in there!

Whoah. This store is awesome. I could spend hours here.

Google
Such a wonderland of colors and textures. I love that Hello Good Morning Kids is also now housed within these walls, two for the price of one. Both women curating these collections have impeccable taste and it is a constant feast for the eyes. The perfect gift shopping experience for this season, and exactly how I wanted to spend my own birthday gift to myself. Making an appointment was simple, and I even had the treat of running into old friends. Love love love this place.

Google
Everything all at once! Curiosity shop with local goods and a cultural magical wonderfulness of imports from around the globe. Cargo Emporium houses many shops within the double level warehouse including Alter, Lisa Congdon, Cielo Home, Appetite Shop, Woodwinkle, Hello! Good Morning, Seaworthy, PDX Pop-Up Record Store, Rx Letter Press, Tasi, Thr Venderia, Loaded Hips Press, Belmont Books, Glasshaus Gardens, Kate Blair Stone

Google
Cargo is an eccentric and sprawling shop full of cultural knickknacks and curiosities. You can spend an hour looking around and find yourself amused the entire time by the endless unique and interesting items. The prices are clearly labeled on everything and many items are reasonably priced. Even if you end up leaving without purchasing anything the aesthetic and vibes are worth the visit alone. I definitely recommend checking this gem of a shop out!

Noah

Google
This should be higher up in the “must see in Portland” list. A very cool very strange tastefully maximalist place full of all sorts of wild things from around the planet! Educational and fascinating to poke around; with some decent deals on really exotic pieces of furniture downstairs.

Yelp
I have such a crush on this store! From the moment you approach the store from the outside you are greeted by the whimsical and artistic stairs, and once the gigantic doors swing open it's like being transported into a gift boutique wonderland! There are multiple vendors inside, but each area blends into the next in a beautiful way... there are great deals on vintage items, brand new treasures... so much of it showcasing local artists... there's an incredible press with cards and products... honestly it's a one stop shop with everything you could possibly need or want! TWO FLOORS of magic! I love it here!
google avatar

Deedee C.

Yelp
Cute variety gift shop with a mix of price ranges. Love that there's something for everyone and there's all these nooks and crannies to explore. Some items can be a bit pricey (particularly clothing and bags), though there a bunch of smaller more affordable items like soaps, cards and cups. It feels like a mix between an art gallery and merchandise bought from a variety of sources (some are definitely not local). Only had 30 min so didn't finish looking at everything

Yelp
Cargo has been my go-to for gifts for many years. The selection of imports, though often priced pretty high compared to what the artisans were likely paid, has always been good. That being said, the last few times I've been in I have seen obvious sweatshop merchandise that is readily available on Alibaba being marked up at a ridiculous level. Selling plastic charms/beads for $3 a piece that you can get in bulk for 5 cents was morally iffy for me, but the selection was still good, so I kept it moving and continued to shop there. However, yesterday I went in and immediately noticed that they were selling a blatant knockoff of the iconic Tokidoki x Lesportsac collection from 2006. Again, I guess maybe there's nothing super wrong about that, but I noticed that they sharpied over the "made in China" on the tags of all of them... That feels pretty dishonest even if I ignore the fact that the item is a poorly produced knockoff of an artist collaboration. When I saw a bunch of jackets made of really low-quality material with a tag that looked exactly like the ones you find on low-cost overseas fast fashion websites, I did a quick google search and immediately saw that the jackets cost $17.50 on Alibaba and are being sold at Cargo for $138... I get that you have to make money, but portraying yourself as a business that sells curated imports and supports artisans is kind of wild if you're also going to price gouge on mass-produced polyester fast fashion from China. If you have a lot of money to spend and few hangups about ethical sourcing, this shop still has a good selection, but I will no longer be recommending this store to friends.

Yelp
Cargo started in 1996, but moved to this location in 2014. It is a historic warehouse with old growth beams/flooring and a really cool old elevator. Their first floor is the "Emporium "which means they have other vendors, including clothing, jewelry, ceramics, cards, plants, fabrics/textiles, home decor, and more. In the basement seems to be their import furniture. This was my favorite section, as they had some really cool larger pieces. They import items from Guatemala, Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, India, Mali, "and beyond." It's a fun place to shop! Whether you buy something big or small, or not at all, it's worth visiting for the vibes as well.
google avatar

Lily C.

Yelp
If you are on the hunt for some unique white elephant gifts that stand out at your holiday parties this year this is the place to shop! They have great, creative items for a variety of budgets and interests. This store is packed with goodies so don't be surprised if you end up browsing for hours! Staff are friendly and fast to check you out once you have everything you need (and more!)
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
Incredibly disappointing and ignorant book section. Will not be returning after seeing the offensive selection they have stocked.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Tons of cute and eclectic things to browse and look through in this shop. Great if you're looking for gifts or just wanting something for yourself. There are a huge variety of things, from stationery, art supplies to home goods, vinyl albums, books, clothing, bags, and more. I ended up buying pencils made from small tree branches and a Cinnamoroll Baggu reusable bag.
google avatar

Kate Y.

Yelp
This place is huge! Seriously can take your time going through all the sections here, they have all sorts of things from cards to plants to beauty products and all in between! If you need a gift for someone but don't know what to get just browse around here, I found so many things I thought my friends and family would like while I was there. As any store with such variety the prices range but I did find plenty of reasonably priced products. Very quick and friendly service at the counter and there are two sides so if ones busy you can just go around to the other. Definitely a classic shop I had forgotten about but now a staple to bring people visiting town!
google avatar

Tina T.

Yelp
This is a great place to shop for so many things. It is a hodge-podge of artisan goods, imports, vintage pieces and much more. It's the kind of place where you should go browse with no preconceptions and just go with your impulses! The prices are good and the interesting asian items in the lower level are fun to look through. Not all are authentic antiques though so pay attention to the feel of the patina-chunky means newly made-velvety means genuine vintage! We went home with some beautiful 'corny' napkins, a variety of Japanese paper products, a beautiful peace dove incense holder, some rainbow pencils and more. I still regret not buying the marigold garlands for Day of the Dead! We will visit again especially for the fun ride in the entry way!
google avatar

Barbara A.

Yelp
Loved the gifts we bought there. Great experience! So many different ideas. Will definitely visit again!
google avatar

Rose D.

Yelp
Wow, this place is huge! I wasn't expecting it to be such an expansive store with an eclectic mix of so many different items. They have all kinds of home decor, some kitchen items, towels, rugs, greeting cards, stickers, wrapping paper, toys, knick-knacks, wall art, furniture, clothing...on & on. Price points varied from super inexpensive to very pricey. A great place to spend an hour or more just wandering around and taking it all in.

Mabel E.

Yelp
Distinctive and expansive selection of gorgeous, funky, artsy merchandise which is beautifully merchandised. Plan to spend a lot of time here!
google avatar

Roze N.

Yelp
How neato is this place?! If your looking for unique gifts or decor def come give this place a whirl. I stopped in to help celebrate a new addition to the store called "Mercado Lula" who stocks Mexican goods by Mexican makers for home and kitchen. They got glassware, ingredients, cook books, etc. Check them out next time ya round. There's street parking and parking lots nearby avail. Front entrance of store is so colorful and fun...you really wanna see what else is inside. They have curated sections of plants, clothes, piñata kits, cards galore, home decor and furniture located downstairs. Just grab a basket up front and get your shop on. Bonus: there's a Photo Booth!
google avatar

Cynthia T.

Yelp
What a cool place to browse around! I had seen this listed in a things to do in Portland article. The store is packed (like seriously wall to wall) with interesting, diverse, and colorful items from around the world. Housewares, clothing, jewelry, kids toys, books, fabric, furniture, ornaments, art and things to make art. The list could go on. While we were there a class was being held to create decorative boxes. We were told there is a calendar for upcoming events. There were plenty of staff to help you find what you might be looking for or to answer questions. Prices could seem high depending on what you are buying but we saw a whole rack of vintage kimonos for under $50 that were a great value. We ended up buying a few things for the grandkids and a couple ornaments for our tree. Definitely a fun place to stop by if you want to do a bit of shopping for some unique stuff!

Jessica G.

Yelp
fun shop jam packed with gift ideas. Some unusual high-end items mixed in with fun little things for under a buck. Coming from Seattle I would say the shop feels like Archie McPhee's meets Fireworks. We spent easily an hour there.
google avatar

Maggie M.

Yelp
There is a huge variety of colorful things here. Something for everyone. The price is really varied. It's a fun collection to look through. The staff was pretty attentive in some of the sections. Just a warning--The basement has a very large memorial that is reminiscent of day of the dead. It was a hard thing to walk into after holiday shopping upstairs. I felt an overwhelming sense of grief for a recent loss I'd experienced and was not emotionally prepared for it. TLDR: the basement has a a large, quiet, and sad memorial in it
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
This place is an experience unlike any other! If you like Etsy and wish they had a brick and mortar store where you could view items from local artisans and relics from all over the world, this is the place! Whenever we have family or friends over to visit, we usually bring them here to see what's new! It's like walking into an art installation. I always tell people it's like World Market on acid and that usually piques their interest. I've purchased a lot of jewelry, clothes, and gifts for my wife. About half of her jewelry collection is from Cargo. She gets tons of compliments every time she wears a piece from Cargo. Now, to make the place even more exciting, they now have a vinyl record section and coming from a DJ in a past life that's been buying records for over 40 years, their selection and price is like any other good record store! Thanks Cargo, I look forward to my next visit!
google avatar

Alexandra J.

Yelp
This place has Lots of cool stuff, little trinkets and antiques. It's A great way to spend the afternoon.
google avatar

Liam W.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite spots for unique gifts. A really lovely and quirky selection of things.
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
Great import store as it looks mostly like it's all coming from Asia? I've lived in Indonesia and was happy to see some things from there such as traditional puppets, fabrics, masks, etc and also Japan. Great Knick knacks to buy and things to browse. Huge place and plenty to see. If you want to feel like you're in another country, step into this place. I hadn't been there since 2015 and decided to see if it was still there and glad to see it is. They even have imported food abs drink, but wish there was more of a selection. Would be amazing, but content with what's offered.
google avatar

Yuli L.

Yelp
This store will make you go "wow", simply because there were so much to look at! It reminds me of more organic and hippie-ish Anthropologie because their displays were tastefully done. There were also tons of Japanese and other ethical items thru out the store. Also there's a instore kitty hidden somewhere in a shelf if you can find it! I usually went to Noraneko first, then walked to Cargo afterward to burn all the food calories.
google avatar

Kim G.

Yelp
Vibrant colored textiles, carved wooden objects, dolls, furniture, clothing, bracelets, art, kites, lanterns, ornaments, hair accessories, door handles, paper flowers, kids toys, and so, so much more! Most with an Asian origin. Piled high and on every imaginable space. Visual feast or sensory overload? Treasure or dime store items? Definitely depends on who is doing the looking and the shopping. Used to frequent Cargo when they were down in the Pearl. The colorful lanterns hanging in mass outside lured me in, such a contrast to the Blue Hour and other restaurants and shops surrounding them. They have now moved across the River on SE Yamhill a block off Water Ave. The lanterns no longer hang out front but the elaborate display on the stairs and doorway shouts CARGO. Again, it lured me in. I'm always amazed by just how much stuff is in this place! Who dusts it all? Baskets overloaded with inexpensive bangles from India. A wall of creepy doll heads. An area dedicated to houseplants, and I must say they were all thriving and beautiful. A table stacked with books about China, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. Colorful paper lanterns hanging above. Everywhere silk branches of pink cherry blossoms, yellow forsythia and white Japanese bells. So much stuff! They now have a small Japanese cafe, Giraffe, in the corner to the left of the front door, selling lunch items, drinks and Japanese snacks plus some Japanese pantry staples. An area called Tasi is dedicated to jewelry from local artists and stands out with its simple white frame and clear window design. Inside Tasi is clean, streamlined, calm. I linger there. The main counter is still loaded with Ayala Bar designs, which I love and on many. She makes colorful jewelry from pieces of material and metal, each a piece of art. This counter has lots of sterling silver jewelry plus a large assortment of brass and metal jewelry. While I love the Ayala Bar jewelry, Tasi jewelry and houseplants, that's not what I am here to buy. I'm here searching for that unique find, a treasure, big or small that I just have to have! As usual, I leave empty handed. The overloaded shelves are fun to look at, but there isn't anything I want to own or display in my house or on my person. There aren't any items that seem like gifts that my friends would enjoy. So I snap a few more pics on the way out and since I'm in the area, wander across the street to check out the party store.
google avatar

Corinn D.

Yelp
I recently had an issue with a gift card and the staff were so beyond helpful; they went above and beyond and helped me more than they needed to. I was so impressed with their kindness, trust, morals, and overall community spirit. Can't recommend supporting this business enough.
google avatar

Mercedes C.

Yelp
I think you can almost deck out your digs with Cargo's items. It's really an international-lover's paradise for unique items. I had blinders on and just had my heart set on hunting for a rustic shelf for MiniMe's new apartment- but Cargo isn't an Antique store. However, a few of their items can be passed off as that. This isn't for the stream-lined in mind either. What you'll find though- are fabulous costume metal jewelry, dramatic African cowrie shell Necklaces, Tibetan Bracelets and so much other Home stuff- plus some Masculine items also. Some of Cargo's products themselves are on the higher end of the price spectrum. There's a wonderful range of eclectic and Global Mix details to really give your home some real good funk. Nothing here is understated- it's actually just straight out bold in a colorful and natural way. Truly like Cargo's stunning style. Next time I'm in Portland, I'd consider making another stop here.
google avatar

H M.

Yelp
Fantastic emporium filled with all kinds of treasures, new and old. I live in NYC but whenever I'm in PDX I make sure to visit here and pick up something unusual. Great selection of skin care, perfume, jewelry and clothes and downstairs is an antique museum. A must do when in Portland.
google avatar

Megan C.

Yelp
Hidden gem! It's filled with art, jewelry, clothing, books and a small cafe. A very fun place to stop by if you're in the area or have a particular thing you're looking for.
google avatar

Humam T.

Yelp
I like Cargo. It's like one is one a treasure hunt except I never find the treasure. I rarely buy anything from there mainly because they don't have anything I want and mainly because they are expensive. Having said that, I still like browse through the different aisles, rooms and floors. They now also have a coffee shop that you can get a snack or coffee, but no lattes. The bathrooms are always clean, so that's a plus. I know that one of these days they'll have something I want.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
First off this is sensory overload for your eyes. Where do you begin on describing what Cargo is? Furniture, clothing, pillows, skulls, fish flags, dice, mahjong tiles, door handles, fabrics, candles, day of the dead anything, Buddha figures, dolls (creepy ones), streamers, bells, stones, scissors, jewelry, carpets, notecards, Christmas ornaments, blankets, greeting cards, wooden sculptures, chimes, coins, plates, Good Luck Cats, markers, teapots, anatomy posters, gift boxes, paper lanterns, toy trucks, plug in Jesus nightlights, mirrors, household items, Asian, African, Indian, a shrine, mannequin heads, clay bottles, art paper, figurines. Basically an endless supply of randomness that will keep one enthralled for hours all packed into two floors, and I haven't even scratched the surface. Apparently, I hadn't been to Cargo in over two years. That is when they moved from The Pearl over to their current location int eh southeast right next door to Kure Juice Bar and Hair of the Dog . I'm glad that I found it. The only problem is, is that when you do come here, be prepared to spend money on things that you didn't realize that you needed. It's that kind of epic place. Enjoy.
google avatar

Tony A.

Yelp
Essentially an exotic antique furniture and contemporary hip collectibles store, with prices ranging from fifty cents to well over five thousand dollars. Paper lanterns. Tchotchkes. Hundreds and hundreds of kokeshi dolls. Frida Kahlo's image on nearly everything. Bracelets. Rosaries made of dice. Day of the Dead skulls. Paper masks. Evil eye charm beads. Ceramic knobs. Colorful throw pillows. Old wooden cabinets, canopied beds, and assorted pieces of furniture that only the truly rich can afford. Cargo is a great store to visit if you're in the area and like to browse and play the "guess how much this costs" game with a friend. (Answer: pick a number and then, at the very least, multiply that number by ten.) Gravel and dirt parking lot.
google avatar

Kara R.

Yelp
So fun! We came here after I saw the reviews here, and it was so worth it! So much to look at, sensory overload, but in the best sense! Even if you're just wanting to window shop, this place is stacked with such amazing and unique finds! Little bit pricier so keep that in mind. During covid, you will want to make reservation. We didn't know this prior, BUT the nice lady at door said enough room so we were able to squeeze in! Loads of fun, check it out yourself too!
google avatar

Alysia M.

Yelp
I was brought here on a date because I love antique furniture and shopping for unique items. It appeared that we needed reservations. I wasn't involved in that, but he did have to give a name when we got there. It must be their way of keeping track for contract tracing or limiting the number of shoppers at one time. This is a massive space and the downstairs area has antique furniture, mostly Asian. They've got something for everyone. Their displays are amazing.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Want a unique and fun shopping experience that blows away most Portland stores? Visit Cargo! Huge multi level warehouse in the inner SE Portland area. It's got a few "pop-ups", as well Giraffe, the best Japanese deli in the area! Cargo has imported textiles, ceramics, art, antiques, etc... from all over the world, but SE Asia and India are represented the most. You can also find local artist's work from PDX, ranging from $2 cards to $$$ pieces of art. I love the glass knobs and furniture accents downstairs. Lots of fun stuff to customize your own dresser, cabinet, armoire, etc. There are plants, pots, lights, furniture, and like I said above, Giraffe! They're worth a stop on their own. Amazing sandwiches, bento boxes, teas, and Japanese specialty foods. Get a bite, and wander through all that Cargo has to offer.

M S.

Yelp
I love all the stuff but don't need a bit of it...too bad because it is so lovely and the people are so nice and so fun...I always want to give them candy. The best place to go for things you have to have but do not need....
google avatar

Shannon H.

Yelp
All time fave and best place to find gifts for the hard to shop for because they have something for everyone. Great range of prices too!
google avatar

Lisa V.

Yelp
Cargo is my Breakfast at Tiffany's. When I'm feeling sad or blue, I can go there and find something new. There are so many delightful, creative and exotic finds to discover at Cargo. It just makes so happy, just being there. They have a corner for snacks too. Shopping and food...what else do you need. True happiness.
google avatar

Morgan F.

Yelp
I've been to Cargo nearly every time I come to Portland. It's a fantastical place of odds and ends from the far reaches of the globe. Over the years they've organized the store really well and added clothing. Having had the opportunity to travel to the other side of the world, it's hard not to have a little bit of sticker shock when you see the prices on some of the foreign imports but you don't have to go to the other side of the world to get it ;). Great place to find chotskies, white elephant gifts, and other fun knick knacks things! Also a great spot to pick up themed and colorful party decor that's not your usual dollar store fare. They have some wonderful greeting and post cards. I always scoop up a few. And I also got a soap there that was priced more cheaply there than other places I've seen this particular brand. I can see the grandma version of myself telling kiddos, "you can pick JUST ONE!" Definitely worth checking out!
google avatar

Alyssa A.

Yelp
I 2nd the motion that this place is sensory OVERLOAD! It's really fun to explore and give yourself the time to see every thing that's in here! A ton of culture and ethnic pieces to make your heart full!
google avatar

Steven B.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing amazing! Cargo has so many things that you will want and so many things that you didn't realize you wanted! Honestly you just have to go for yourself and don't forget to check out the downstairs! If it's a little unique inexpensive gift or an antique Indian door, they have it.
google avatar

Nettie A.

Yelp
Fun store. A lot yo take in! They have gorgeous flowers from someone who knows flowers. The owners travel the world to bring gold interesting items and the employees are artistic and creative and add a lot of special and beautiful details. Really fun store and worth a visit for sure. The party store across the street is fun too.
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
I love this store. It is a feast. From the always differently decorated entry way to the creeky old wood floors..the colors and textures of small and big things, the decor, the fabric, the inexpensive the very expensive there is something here for everyone and every budget. One of my favorite things about this store is the location. As you wander around and peruse exotic wares, the freight train rolls by right next to the windows. It is a magical spot and the ambiance draws me back to wander bout and dream. And spend $....great place for gifts whether for friends, family or yourself :)

Jeff R.

Yelp
Every once in a long while in my travels I encounter a perfect store -- a delightful place, perfectly situated, and occupying an absolutely unique niche. Cargo is such a store. The merchandise, ambience, and personnel are all perfect. May it long endure.
google avatar

Yelp
Cargo is a fun store. I used to go more often and now you have to make an appointment. It is still a very fun shop stop and I always walk out with a treasure.
google avatar

Jennifer U.

Yelp
Beautiful stores with a dizzying array of international loveliness. I always love to pick up handmade Mexican crafts or lovely jewelry here. Really, everything in this store is fun to explore. I had a recent concern that the owner, Patty, immediately followed up on. I appreciate her leadership and she went above and beyond to help. I truly appreciate it and will return for another kantha quilt to add to my collection. Thank you very much.
google avatar

Jeanne Z.

Yelp
Such a cute store, I initially just wanted to window shop and check-it out, but I ended up buying some really cute & unique gift bags made from recycled newspapers for 80 cents! And, I bought some local notecards, that were very unique and meaningful. I didn't time how long I was in there walking around checking out every little thing, but I would speculate that it was close to half- hour or so. It was very fun just looking around the shop. And, with a brewery next door (Hair of the Dog) and a costume shop across the street, and some good lunch spots and coffee shops nearby that makes it easy to make a day trip out of it. Also, I believe you can take your dog in to the store and shop with you, that is pretty cool!!

Yelp
So many things to look at as soon as you walk through the door. Beautiful textiles, art supplies, unique finds in every corner. The list goes on. There is also a yummy Japanese bakery inside with coffee and so on. Great store to check out.

Yelp
This store is fantastic. It has a huge array of Asian goods. Which sounds like a weird phrase. It has more than that too. But really, a lot of the stuff there are things that you would bring back as awesome souvenirs or gifts if you traveled to various Asian countries, and not kitschy silly stuff. Plus, there is a tiny Japanese deli with delicious items, and an adorable toy and craft seller. I just love this store.

Yelp
What a cool place! Two floors of unusual furniture, clothing, decorations, books, food, and too many other goodies to list. Funkier than Pier 1 or Cost Plus, and really unique. When we visit Portland we always hit Powell's and Cargo to check out what's new, and we're never disappointed. And we get some awesome gifts to take back too!

Yelp
Import store with interesting trinkets to petrified wood sinks. Don't expect a ton of local, but more cool made in Mexico/India/china stuff that is wonderful-not cheap! Recommend and will definitely return.

Yelp
Can get lost in thought reading all the entertaining greeting cards! Tons of party, gift, home and clothing items to meander through.
