Where to Eat Near the CHS Airport | Eater Carolinas

"Caribbean Delight brings traditional Jamaican fare to Rivers Avenue. The menu contains national Jamaican dish ackee and saltfish, daily specials from curried goat to stew pork to oxtails, and customary sides like festival (fried cornmeal dumplings), bammy (cassava flatbread), roasted breadfruit, and more." - Erin Perkins

6 Underrated North Charleston Restaurants to Visit Now | Eater Carolinas

"Caribbean Delight is the definition of a “locals only” restaurant. Located at the corner of Rivers and Reynolds avenues, this Jamaican restaurant doesn’t even have a website but that hasn’t slowed its business down in the slightest. The menu has a few standby items, but the featured entree changes every day. Some days, it’s jerked chicken, other days it’s the curried goat. But no matter when you go, it’s going to be filling." - KJ Kearney

Google
It was good food. The parking was poor because someone parked behind me and I couldn’t get out. I was also accosted by several people for money- just trying to get through the door. The staff were nice and smiley. The food was good and came out quickly!

Google
It's been a long time since I've had an authentic Caribbean meal, and Caribbean Delight brought the islands right to my plate! The staff is friendly and prompt, the vibe in the restaurant is top notch, and the food is made with love and of the highest quality. I am 100% satisfied with my meal and would definitely come back the next time I am in town. 10/10 experience!

“Jersey raised Charlottean”… So my wife and I stayed in Charleston for a couple days and had a taste for Jamaican food. I looked on Insta and google and found a few places but this place seemed to stand out from the rest. We both got oxtail platters with collard greens, rice/peas and plantains. So the food was excellent. Meat falling off the bone, gravy rich and flavorful, plantains sweet and tender. Now for the collard greens they were cooked to perfection with a more natural flavor and light spiciness that some would consider to not be flavorful. Now personally I like my green sweet, sour and spicy. I like vinegar(sour) mixed with a hint of sweetness and spiciness but to each his own they were still good. I would definitely recommend this place to go eat at and I would definitely go back to try more. 👍🏽🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Google
Wow, bloody wow… We finally made it over to this place from Mt. Pleasant today and it was so worth it. What a treat. We ordered their jerk and curry chicken with rice & peas, cabbage, collards and a beef & chicken pie. This place is legit and even better is the customer service and hospitality. Left the place with a circus in my mouth. Highly recommend. 3 thumbs up 👍👍👍 and 5 stars from us ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

Google
In the Charleston area, and looking for authentic Caribbean food comes to Caribbean Delight. Some of the best oxtail I have tasted in a long time, the rice and peas cooked to perfection. The curry goat was tender, and plantains were delicious. The staff was friendly and the food was ready quickly.

Google
This was my first time trying Jamaican food and it did not disappoint! I got the oxtail with cabbage, plantains, rice & peas. My bf got the jerk chicken. Everything was delicious and the staff there are all so nice including the lady at the register. Will def be back for more before our trip ends.

Google
I seriously don’t know how this place got 5 star reviews, the food was Not that good, except for the cabbage and plantains. The oxtails were good, but very salty, the peas and rice were mushy, and the collard greens had No taste! The bathroom was tore up from the floor up, with a hole in the floor and No toilet tissue, I had to use napkins!! I asked if I could exchange the collards for something else, and I got a very strong NO!! However, I do wish them the best.👎🏽

Google
lets say I've tried all oxtail in the area, and i mean every place!! This place is the best hands down! funny thing, they're also the most reasonably priced . Make sure to ask for that oxtail gravy on the rice and peas! Jerk chicken is amazing too, heck, ive had nothing bad from this spot, top 3 all time favorite comfort food spots

Yelp
This was my first time trying Caribbean Delight, and I was blown away. A friend kept raving about the place and treated us to take out from there. My meal consisted of oxtails and gravy, mac and cheese, white rice, and plantains. The oxtails were incredibly tender and flavorful and were perfectly complemented by the rich gravy. The white rice was perfectly cooked. The mac and cheese was creamy and delicious , with just the right amount of cheesiness. The plantains were perfect and added a sweet touch to the savory meal. Overall, Caribbean Delight exceeded my expectations. The portion sizes were generous, and everything tasted authentic and homemade. I will definitely be visiting Carriben Delight in person soon!

Yelp
I would take off a star for the fact that they only gave one plantain, however they gave a nice portion of oxtails and the rice was so good. Sorry no photos. Really good!

Yelp
The food is always delicious! You can either call ahead or order at the restaurant, either way the service is always welcoming. Hidden gem in North Charleston.

Yelp
Authentic is the word that comes to mind! Just like being in the Caribbean where the locals dine. The restaurant is small as far as seating, however, it appeared that most customers were getting take-out. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful.

Yelp
A very delicious and authentic Jamaican place we got here, that's locally owned. The collards are amazing as is the goat curry combo! Very nice and courteous and I'll be back for sure! Also 1/2 price rum punch and beer 4-7!

Yelp
Charleston doesn't have many Caribbean spots so I appreciate one like Caribbean Delight that can prepare one of my favorite dishes of all time: OXTAILS !! It's a small spot on the corner so parking isn't the best but it's worth the search. Make sure you come early to get an order of the Patties and bread before they sell out as well. Also don't forget to grab a bottle of Ting before you go! Truly one of my favs

Yelp
This place in the Lowcountry is hands down the best for Caribbean food! Every time I go, I can't resist ordering my favorite dishes, and they never disappoint. The flavors are amazing, and it's always a great experience. Plus, the vibe is welcoming, and the staff are super friendly. Whether you're a Caribbean food pro or just curious to try something new, this spot has you covered. So, gather your friends or plan a special date night and get ready for a delicious adventure!

Yelp
Wow! Just tried this place today for 1st time dinner. Really wish we'd taken a picture before we demolished it- but we were starving when we got our carry out home. Very well seasoned food. The best Caribbean food we've had to date,+ we love to try new foods. Small or large sized lunches & dinners available- I got small-shocked at how much food it was/easily 2 meals for me. Hubbie (big eater) ate all his/also a 'small' size but he was stuffed. I had goat curry (spicy/delicious) collards, rice & peas. He got jerk chicken+ same sides- both agreed we'd enjoy same entree again. Stopped by earlier today to look@ menu, ask questions & decided on dinner here- the staff was wonderful, helpful & courteous. Loved it here-great carry out spot. Frankly some people really care about their food and their customers, and are proud of the care they take- it really shows here! PS Parking in the back

Yelp
This restaurant was my first experience with Caribbean cuisine ! I ordered the ackee and saltfish, jerk seasoned shrimp, and Curried goat. It was a bit more expensive for the portion sizes, but the flavors were nothing like i have ever had before. I enjoyed the food~ Ackee and saltfish was a hearty dish, the shrimp was not too salty, and the Goat was tender and was in a slightly spicy curry sauce. Definitely a place you have to try at least once, since the dishes i tried were all unique and had very distinct aromas. I ordered takeout in the early afternoon. It was not busy, but id imagine it gets fairly busy in the evenings.

Yelp
Food was great! I had the jerk chicken with peas & rice & extra extra oxtail gravy. Came with a side of cabbage & plantains. I got a pineapple soda to eat in. I did not get the extra gravy on my peas & rice. & I forgot to tell them no jerk sauce. But no worries, lunch was delicious. I ate around the jerk sauce. The cabbage was slightly crunch as it's supposed to be & the carrots were cut fresh. Chicken was grilled perfectly & the rice & peas were good. Maintains were perfect! What I did taste of the oxtail gravy was good too the server was stingy on the gravy. Small joint & clean. Texas Pete on the table & napkins. Staff was nice, smiling & friendly. It's next to Church's in da hood, but atmosphere in & out of this dive was fine. Get your fix here! Prices were decent. My only eyebrow raise was you can't get all dishes on one day; they're in rotation. But that may be a good idea.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat. Went for the jerk chicken today and only got dark meat (legs) Although I like legs it is my least favorite, It would've been nice to have at least 1 good piece

Yelp
I decided to get ox tail from Caribbean Delight after a feeling of disappointment at Jamaican grill to do a comparison. Upon arrival through the door I said hello and asked how many ox tail come with their large. They lady told me standard is 5. I ordered the ox tail with cabbage and white rice and they asked me the amount of gravy of my choice. When I got home I took pictures, said my grace and ate them both at the same time until I felt I had eaten enough. I noticed how they were both delicious and similar but not the same. Jamaican grill ox tail uses sugar and spice and almost had me hooked. Their cabbage is sweet and crisp with a hint of vinegar. While Caribbean Delight's cabbage is well seasoned. Jamaican Grill's rice and peas has a slight kick of spice. Caribbean Delights white rice is slightly buttery. Jamaican Grill's plantain is sweet and cooked good, while Caribbean Delights plantain has a nice caramelization going on and is very good. While eating Caribbean Delight I could not taste any spice or sugar in any of the dishes. However, they all tasted honest and tasty. Finally, Caribbean Delight's ox tail is tender and flavorful. All in all, both platters were delicious. Take a look at the pictures from when I started and stopped. I think I dug in the same amount.

Yelp
Drove 40 minutes, I picked the wrong restaurant. Thought it was Jamaican grill. Ordered Goat curry, NOT a GOAT at all. Bland and the veges tasted like old grease.

Yelp
Used to live in Charleston for almost 5 years. Moved away, and now travel back to Charleston for my job. This is by far the best Caribbean food in Charleston. Forget all that hype of Caribbean places being mean and rude, these folks are amazing and will take your order. I got the Jerk Chicken combo with rice and peas and collards. Food was SO good, I ordered an oxtail plate to go (as seen below) The food flavor, quality, and speed of service is great too. Don't walk, RUN to this spot!

Yelp
I fell in love with there food is was very delightful the first time I had oxtails and baby it did NOT DISAPPOINT!!!!!! I posted on my snap about the best oxtails in the city and immediately got text about this place plenty of recommendations saying they are the best! And in Fact they were I will DEFINITELY be back!!!!!!

Yelp
We had just finished a Charleston Chewy from Daddy's Girls Bakery, and right across the street (ok, two blocks) was Carribean Delight, just opening, but you could smell the beautiful spices in the late morning air. We went in just to check it out (too early for lunch, and we were headed to a breakfast), but we couldn't resist the oxtail, which is a featured item. So succulent and delicious, not overcooked, and so plentiful!! The greens and rice were good too, but the OxTail!!! What more can I say? By the time we were finished, the line was out the door for the $7 special sized portion! But we were happy with "large," including rice and beans, collards, and plantains...

Yelp
I am IN LOVE with this place! The food is just DELICIOUS. There's a simple counter service concept, and the food took a little while to come out, but it was worth every second. I'm not an expert on Caribbean food, but the flavors were complex and the meats were cooked perfectly - giving me the impression that the food was authentic. And there was a steady stream of business the entire time we were there -made me wish I lived here so I could come here every day.

Yelp
Saw this little place on Yelp so decided to give it a try. Had takeout because to eat on the run. Ordered the Jerk Chicken Wrap. The wrap was very tasty. Good amount of meat and seasoned very well. Also ordered the meat patty. That was a different story. I don't believe it was homemade. Tasted like a microwave patty. In fact Costco has one that is tastier. I will be back to give it another try.

Judy M.

Yelp
Very decent Good food but needs to update items on the menu. ambiance can be a lil friendlier

Bryan P.

Yelp
All the food here was fantastic! Portions are huge-- they fill the containers to bursting. We came around 7 pm, and they were running out of items. They locked the door, but let us wait inside for the bus. And, they gave us 2 empanadas out of kindness.

Quierianna J.

Yelp
Nice service and very delicious food! Posted it on social media and lets just say.....its a hit!!!

Yelp
Came after the lunch rush and was served within 15 minutes. I ordered the jerk chicken with fries along with one beef patty and one curry chicken patty. A few suggestions: the temperature was off which I'm not a fan of. My fries were cold and my jerk chicken was piping hot. My beef patty was very warm but my curry chicken patty was not. All in all the flavors were great for everything except the fries. I'll never order fries from here again. The jerk sauce and method of cooking is spot on for those that have experienced authentic Jamaican cuisine.
google avatar

James D.

Yelp
Wonderful food, great/kind service. The jerk chicken, curry goat out of this world. Looking forward to going back.

Steven K.

Yelp
I came here by recommendation of a friend. Took take away. I had the jerk pork and the oxtail as a combination. This sums up what's mostly wrong with take out food in this country. Most have no flavor or seasoning. This place, I'm finishing the 2nd half of it, cold, 6 hours after I first bought it, and it tastes even better. My soul warms as I feel taken care of by the care given to this food. I'm not a local. But if I'm ever near Charleston again, I'm coming here for sure. I miss eating food like this. Remember to tip, they're doing exceptional work.

Yelp
I decided to try out one of the various caribbean restaurants in the area, this one did not disappoint. I ordered take away and the food was just the right temperature when picked up. The seasoning was terrific and the chicken was fall of the bone.
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty good seasoning on the meats! It was finger licking good and the service was fast and friendly! Definitely worth trying if you are in town.

Yelp
Every part of my visit was way above and beyond what I had hoped for. I immediately felt welcomed with warm smiles from the polite staff. The smells of good old fashioned home cooking filled the air. Authentic food at incredible prices, amazing quality and portions that allow you to bring home the extra. This is going to be my "go to" place from now on. If you're a local or a visitor, make sure you take the time to stop in and enjoy this place.

Yelp
OMG! Little place with such a huge Jamaican Flavor! The lady at the register was very nice and the collards greens are delicious

Yelp
Have a craving for some delicious Caribbean food? Stop in to Caribbean Delight! I placed a to-go order for the jerk chicken, rice and peas, plantains, coco bread and cabbage. The jerk chicken was delicious. I could drink the sauce. I wish I had a tub of it to dip my bread in! Speaking of bread, the coco bread was amazing! I ate the entire thing, no shame. I didn't care for the cabbage. There was a spice in there that didn't fit, in my opinion. The rice and peas were pretty good. All in all a good Caribbean place to eat.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere, safe environment , sweet people and excellent hygiene and food. Blablablablablaaaaaaaaa

Yelp
Thanks to this Restaurant, My job's Thanksgiving Feast was a beautiful success. They catered a pan of oxe tail and beans & rice. The food was freshly prepared and hot. Several coworkers asked of the catering service so they can place an order for the Christmas Feast. The food was very flavorful. Thanks again Jamaican Delight.
google avatar

Yevgeniy M.

Yelp
This place is just simply amazing. Great great food. My favorite is the jerk chicken along with the curried goat. Can't go wrong with anything you order.

Elizabeth D.

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this place. The food was so good, enough for leftovers. What can I say, I love oxtails.
google avatar

Brieanna S.

Yelp
I heard this was a good place and decided to try it, and although the customer service was great, the food was just okay. This location was on Rivers Avenue, and can be hard to find if you aren't paying attention, as there is a little alley that takes you to a small parking lot in the back. Seating is very limited, so it. May not be good for a big crowd during the busiest times of the day. When entering I was greeted promptly and my order was taken- I always get oxtails lol. Although the price was very reasonable, the size of the oxtails was not what I am used to. The cabbage was great, plantains and rice was amazing, the oxtail gravy was delicious but the oxtails were small and not as tender and juicy as I was expecting. Also, there was not any max and cheese or homemade pepper sauce or scotch bonnet sauce for those who like it hot (I haven't found authentic pepper sauce in a Jamaican restaurant in Charleston YET!). Finally overall, everything was great - even the spicy beef patty, but I was let down when it cane to the main entree. Would I go again? It depends who's paying ! Lol law school graduates aren't lawyers lol! Overall, okay place with a good environment and fast service.
google avatar

Heath H.

Yelp
Curry Goat was good and tinder, the cabbage I had, IMO, was very well seasoned, not the typical BAAM cabbage.
google avatar

Shena D.

Yelp
The building doesn't look like much but the food is great! We visited this restaurant twice while on vacation in Charleston. Best escovitch fish I've had in a long time. It was well seasoned with plenty of spice! My kids had oxtails and they cleaned their plates. The staff was friendly and conversed with us while we ate. Great Jamaican spot!
google avatar

Ara A.

Yelp
I really expected so much more from this place especially with such high ratings. Had the jerk and the brown stew chicken. The brown stew was bland the jerk was ok not spicy just ok.
google avatar

Ariel B.

Yelp
My, my, my. What a meal! SO I was craving oxtails and bring that it was a shopping day I had no Time to make them so I did a little Yelp search and came across Caribbean Delight. A small, unassuming, brick building that houses some REALLY GOOD Jamaican fair. I parked around back and walked in, immediately greeted by the nice woman behind the counter. I reviewed the menu and decided on the "small" oxtail plate with rice and peas, and cabbage. I also ordered a Jamaican beef patty. The price was reasonable. I sat at the counter and my food was in front of my before I could get settled. Let's talk portions... a small is MORE than enough food for one person. The taste: SO FRIGGIN TASTY and authentic. The rice and peas were seasoned well, the oxtails and gravy were sticky and thick and flavorful and the cabbage was tender. I was so happy eating this food that warmed up my little soul. Nothing was too salty and it reminded me of my best friend's mother's (who is Jamaican) oxtails... I was impressed. I ate the beef patty later and was equally impressed at the authenticity and taste. Trust me, I will be back and trying the stew chicken next!!!
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic, savory, and delicious, this is the place! It's definitely a hole in the wall, but worth the drive. I've been to other Caribbean places and this one was the only one that gave us options of what kind of sauce (oxtail/curry) to put on top of the entree. So good! Only, I'm pretty sure the AC was broken the night we came in. It was a little miserable but the food was on point.
google avatar

Mandalynn S.

Yelp
Always consistent and delicious! My go to order is the jerk chicken, cabbage, rice and peas with the plantains - the small is still plenty of food (but always go with the large because it's that good). Service and quality are top notch!
google avatar

Charlene M.

Yelp
This spots serves very good Jamaican food and the customer service is great. Everyone is always pleasant. It's a great place to get good takeout.
google avatar

Dawn B.

Yelp
Was visiting the area and thought maybe there would be decent Caribbean/Jamaican food. Cause seems on the east coast the Caribbean food is better in general than where I live. The food was good. No raves but I are it all. Tried the jerk chicken but I really wanted oxtails. On Friday evening maybe 2 hrs before closing they were out of oxtails. The jerk was good. I chose rice n peas, cabbage and plantain came with it. I will say I got to stingy little pieces of plantain and that was disappointing but I do like that plantain was standard and not something you have to purchase a la carte. My friend had the shrimp curry and she had no complaints. It's a small establishment with some seating seeming to be geared more toward takeout
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
What a find! After visiting the Hunley exhibit, I opened Yelp, which showed this as near and good. We were not disappointed. The place is not posh, the food came in styrofoam with plastic utensils, but the food was incredible. I had the jerk pork was delicious as it was spicy. But the rice and beans it came with would have been with worth 5 stars by itself, and the collards...well my grandmother has been gone for almost 20 years, and that is about how long it has been since I have had collards like that. The fried plantains were like bananas foster. This is what Yelp is for, to find places like this that you would never visit otherwise

Ansley M.

Yelp
I'm so glad we found this spot. Great authentic Caribbean food! OMG! I had the curry chicken with coco bread and my boyfriend had the oxtails. Both were GREAT! We both got the small plates but the serving size was so big, I didn't even finish (the picture shows my plate half eaten lol). Food was reasonably priced. Just wish the drinks were included with the meal, but I expect it for small restaurants like this. The parking was not great, but overall the experience and service was pretty good. Will definitely come again if I come back to Charleston!
google avatar

Shari K.

Yelp
Horribly unprofessional. Don't even dream of calling in a pick up order. They just let the phone ring and then will take it off the hook and not even bother to talk to you or take your order. great good though-just inefficient.
google avatar

Roger G.

Yelp
Had the jerk pork with festivals my wife had jerk chicken with festivals and we shaird an order of Plantains. It was the best jerk and festivals we have enjoyed since we were in Jamaica. And the Red Stripe beer just put the complete meal in to a catagory above excellent.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Sometimes you have to be careful giving out these 5 star reviews. What happens if you go to a similar style restaurant that is better? Just happened. I came here for their Thursday Curried Goat special and as my friend warned me, it was fantastic. Lots of bones in it which tells me it is all real. The flavor was fantastic. I spent about $13 for the large portion. The goat was as good as I ever had. So tender and the flavor with the gravy over the peas and rice was outstanding. The cabbage was decent but with the abundance of food I could not complain. I was full and totally satiated. I will be back and will bring some friends. I still like the other one on Rivers but this one is better. Both score a 5 but this is a full 5 where the other was about 4.6. Totally sold on this place and so was the crowd that was there.

Yelp
Food is always hot and fresh. Good portion sizes. They normally get you in and out quickly. Parking could be worked on
