A Taste of Sunshine and Colombia at Patio Tropical in Williamsburg | Eater NY

"A neighboring Caribbean social club described as a long-standing signifier of resisting gentrification and the erasure of culture in the neighborhood; its proximity helps anchor the cafe within an existing diasporic community and contributes to the location’s sense of being part of a culturally rooted block." - Emma Orlow

‘Top Chef’ Star Kwame Onwuachi Is Cooking at the U.S. Open Food Court | Eater NY

"Operating in some form from 244 Grand Street in Williamsburg since the 1970s, Caribbean Social Club began as a members-only club and later became a bar where regulars gather in a one-room space with a pool table for $3 beers and food cooked in Maria Antonia Cay's upstairs apartment; Cay says she owns the building, has been offered millions to sell, and plans to stay despite recent inspector requests for repairs." - Luke Fortney

The Zabar Family Is Opening an Ice Cream Shop | Eater NY

"Protestors have gathered at the Manhattan courthouses today for Caribbean Social Club, also known as Toñita’s, which has been a community hub since the 1980s and was even a stop for Bad Bunny; owner Maria “Toñita” Cay is facing a legal summons, but the protest appears tied to broader gentrification concerns in South Williamsburg, with Toñita’s posting that “Our house is at risk” and warning that gentrification erases vibrant cultures and communal gathering spaces like theirs." - Emma Orlow

A living room for Williamsburg’s Puerto Rican community since the 1970s: dominoes, cheap beers, home‑style food, and classic tunes. Covered by NPR and local arts press, it remains a welcoming cultural sanctuary run by the legendary Toñita.

Google
Fun and iconic place. But impossible to get a drink and it feels like you are in a sauna. Hanging out outside is almost better than being inside the actual place. But def worth visiting if you are in the area!

Google
Great place to stop by admire the 🇵🇷🇵🇷 vibe this place took me back when social clubs were everywhere 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Google
We had an amazing party time with a great group of people in a PR atmosphere.

Un Chinchorro en Nueva York. An iconic and Latina owned business in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Rafael “Rafy” B.

Google
Puertorican chinchorro vibe... love it!

Google
Loved it! The owner is such a wonderful woman and makes you feel as if you are long time friends! Will definetely return on my next visit to Brooklyn. 😊

Google
This is a Party e’ Marquesina for me, $3 dollars beer? BET. Looks like old San Juan bars, dancing good Puertorrican music. This is old school, the owner is an old lady and she’s awesome. An AC maybe? Probably is going to defeat its purpose but it doesn’t hurt asking 🤪

Google
The most iconic lowkey Puerto Rican social club in New York City. Don’t come here expecting luxury but you can definitely expect good vibes, cheap drinks, free food and great music.

Yelp
A historical landmark (as are all social clubs created for their intended original purposes). This is a joint for all latinos to have a place to gather, be social, and eat a great meal. If you want to learn more look into this gem or attempt to speak to the owner (or her son. you'll see them around). Although the days of our parents are gone, hopefully the kids will bring this place back to life and keep it for the generations to come. Maybe a return of the instruments. BYOI (bring your own instrument) can be organized I'm sure:) What it's not is a modern club for getting slouched and hooking up. So don't come thinking it's anything other than a quaint little joint nuzzled in the ever gentrifying WillyB.

Yelp
It's a vibe for a casual yet lit night out with friends. Drinks are cheap, food is free and hot all night and the music is the audiences choice!

Yelp
Incredible Establishment. Prevented a fight from breaking out, returned my wallet when I lost it, cheap but good drinks, awesome clientele, overall incredible experience, 0 complaints.

Dejanay R.

Yelp
cheap drinks and chill atmosphere but i felt unwelcomed as a darker skin latina. I understand it's a safe space for Latino/Hispanic people though, so I'll look closely at others reviews to judge whether other communities and groups can come.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night recommended by a Spaniard who really wanted to check this place out. Firstly, there's no AC in this bar. So when you step right in, it's freaking 100 degrees and you're sweating bullets. Not to mention it's super crowded, so you're surrounded by other sweaty people. Don't see why they couldn't even afford to put up some fans up either. Besides that, drinks are dirt cheap. Hang out in the back patio area to get away from the hot humid rooms. Cash only though in order to maintain the cheap prices. The other people who come here makes it a fantastic time.

Yelp
After struggling economically a couple of months after hurricane María destroyed Puerto Rico, I moved to the states with a lot of sadness. Every time I saw people in New York from Puerto Rico, I saw that they were at this nice 'chinchorro'. 'Chinchorro' is was we call in Puerto Rico a street type of bar. So I decided to put on my bucket list visit Caribbean Social Club when in New York. I finally did, the place almost made me want to cry, I felt back home; hot as home, crowded and very tiny space as bars back home and most importantly people that talk Spanish!!! If you wanna listen to Spanish music; that could be salsa, reggaeton, merengue, don't think about ur and go! Gracias a este lugar por existir porque me hizo sentir que estaba en mi amado Puerto Rico; ahora faltan las medallistas! Estamos readyyyy

Yelp
As a Latina in NY it can be difficult at times to find a bar or club that plays Spanish music and meeting other fellow Latinos can be difficult if you live in neighborhoods that are prominently white. This place is authentic as it gets and gave me the opportunity to meet other people from my parents home country and listen to great music! Drinks are also cheap but cash only, can't wait to go back

Yelp
This place is special. Really one of a kind. Feels like a puerto rican's living room. Got a domino table in the corner, and someone's abuela behind the bar. It's a sneaky big space and the backyard patio is dope. The drinks are cheap, the crowd is lively. I love this place and it reminds me of my family.

Yelp
This place is hot. And I mean hot as hell. It was 90 degrees outside and 1000 degrees inside. Avoid it.

Yelp
This is the perfect place to feel like you are in a Puerto Rican chinchorro. Loved it!

Steven S.

Yelp
Best place ! Love it. Cool pool players. On my way now actually, real talk! Very affordable drinks! Great atmosphere

Erick M.

Yelp
Literally love this place. The culture is real. Makes me miss my home country. Except here, I can be homosexual self.

Kevin M.

Yelp
This place dead ass makes me feel some type of way if you want to get it how you live

Monica G.

Yelp
Best place to go dance, drink cheap, and play dominos like you're back in Puerto Rico
