The Best Sandwiches in Los Angeles, According to "Sandwich King" Owen Han

"The Tuna Chop "I think it's the best tuna sandwich you can get. Typically, I would default to a tuna melt, but this is so good. They use a crunchy ciabatta, which works so well with the mushy tuna. Then they add pepperoncini to their tuna salad—if you eat that with their hot sauce, I'm telling you, it's so, so good. With tuna, you either hate it or love it. But if you love it, you’ve definitely gotta get this sandwich." - brennan carley

The Best Dishes Eater LA Editors Ate This Year, Mapped

"I used to live close enough to where Carla Cafe launched its sandwich “drops” in the early days of the pandemic; pick-ups were at the door of the Bootsy Bellows nightclub in West Hollywood. After I moved further west, the mini deli’s impeccable sandwiches became an only once-in-a-while treat — until this year, when Carla Cafe moved its operations to Colony Kitchen in Santa Monica. Anyone who knows me well knows that a tuna sandwich is one of my favorite lunches — and the tuna chop from Carla Cafe just might be my favorite iteration, ever. It combines the vegetable-packed brightness and crispness of a chopped salad (in this case, lightly dressed shredded lettuce, chickpeas, pepperoncini, tomatoes, and avocado) with a well-seasoned, mayo-based tuna salad studded with little slivers of red onion. It’s all piled on a crunchy ciabatta roll slicked with yellow mustard; every bite is packed with an explosion of flavors and textures. My hope is that one day Carla Cafe will have its own standalone storefront, but for now, I’m just happy that I can order the tuna chop (and other superior sandwiches) any time my heart desires. —Karen Palmer" - Eater Staff

Carla Cafe Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Carla Cafe is a sandwich counter pop-up in West Hollywood and home to some of our favorite gourmet sandwiches in town. After operating entirely out of the chef’s home, Carla Cafe has now moved into the kitchen at Bootsy Bellows, a well-known nightclub on the Sunset Strip, where they’re doing sandwich drops three times a week. They only make one kind of sandwich each day (which they announce on their Instagram Story), but just know that whether it’s pesto chicken, tuna chop, or garlic aioli chicken, you’re in for an absolutely tremendous lunch. All pre-ordering is done through DMs on Instagram, so give them a follow and stay diligent - time slots fill up fast." - Brant Cox

The service was very nice. The food is good, but the portion sizes are for ants…. Great for an appetizer. Not enough for lunch. And the drinks were little beverage all ice.

I love Carla Cafe’s tuna sandwiches! They are hands down the best in LA. The tuna is always fresh, always seasoned to perfection, served on delicious crunchy bread that complements it wonderfully. I’ve been coming here regularly, and every visit is a delightful experience. If you’re craving a sandwich, Carla Cafe should be your go-to spot. Highly recommend!

Very unsatisfied with the way Carla Cafe handle my order yesterday. My order was canceled although it was placed 5 days prior. It was for 30 sandwiches for my team for a total over $500 ! I received a call from Uber at the time of delivery (11am) stating Carla cafe wasn’t able to make my order and canceled because they didn’t have the bread. No alternative was given. Also I was told they had tried to reach out to me am hour prior. But after reviewing my phone log, my emails, my app. I can confirm no one attempted to do so. I will not place any orders with them (placed many before). With Carla cafe, you are not able to reach out or communicate with anyone (no phone number, no email or contact info). It give them freedom to do whatever they want with impunity. You just lost a big piece of business we could have done this monthly if not biweekly. Poor handling of this issue. All means of contact was made available.

Waited 40 mins for a tuna sandwich. The order said 5 min when placed. Skip this place or order way ahead.

Ordered takeout via Colony (where they operate). Ordered a garlic aioli chicken sandwich, absolutely delicious. The bread was suprisingly crispy (perhaps a little too crispy, but definitely not burned), and the sandwich had amazing flavor. Would order again!

No phone number to call, no labeling outside, in a sketchy alley. Do not waste your time
