"Carmela y Sal is Chef Gabriela Ruiz Lugo's love letter to her Tabasco roots. She shares so much of her personality in this welcoming, modern restaurant where a kind staff ensures an enjoyable experience. This isn't food that you'll find on every corner. Its distinct personality is memorable, and you'll be back in no time for another terrific meal. Don't miss dishes like the broccoli with spicy sauces, cheese and black piquin chili. Short rib con chirmol is packed with flavor, thanks to the generous sauce, and is a hearty dish intended for big appetites. Mostachón is a simple dessert to round things out." - Michelin Inspector

While the food was delicious, I did get food poisoning. I believe it was from my steak. I ordered is medium and it came pretty rare. I should have said something but I figured it will be fine. The staff and ambience was incredible thou!

Ok I am so impressed with this place. I had a two top in the back and I had the best server Omar. He told me a story about the soup and it involves beans and kings and queens and was just amazing. He suggested the tasting menu and it surely delivered ... the short rib was like BBQ and the see bass was amazing ! I got the mango for desert and again out of this world

UPDATE: I got sick from this place. Service was amazing! However, I found the food a bit lackluster. Maybe my expectations were too high given the reviews. Everyone was super kind and attentive though. I did the tasting menu, and only a few stood out to me. For the price though, a solid choice.

I want to come back to order different items! We had our closure to an amazing visit to Mexico City at Carmela y Sal. It was also our anniversary so it felt right to go to a special occasion. The service is spotless, I informed the waiters in Spanish that my girlfriend is on a gluten free diet and it was the first time they didn’t look weird at us in Mexico City. Here the staff actually was aware of what it means. We ordered the Tostadas de Mentiras as starter, and what a hit it was! If possible I would order this as a main! I won’t spoil the secret, but basically in Spanish when something is “de mentiras” what you see is a disguise. This dish looks like something and it is something else, just know that it’s a must! For mains my partner got the sea bass (robalo) risotto, what an explosion of flavors, many spices that might seem like a risk, but in perfect balance. I got the fettuccini and shrimp, which I was doubting because it seemed like the basic b**** option. But it was also a surprise! It was kind of sweet which was unusual for a pasta but with the rest of the veggies and spices somehow it worked. For dessert we got the mangoes with the tapioca and rum/ rhubarb. What a dessert! Not too sweet, not too simple, very fresh. It was unique and different, full of taste! We paired everything with a Mexican wine, probably our least favorite item, but that was on us. It was a great experience and honestly fairly priced. We can’t wait to come back, I wonder for a plan with friends or double date if the atmosphere would feel less corporate, we went on a Wednesday night and it felt a bit dry, that might be our only critic, but please come to this place, it won’t be a regret. Thanks to the staff for an amazing service and to the cooks for an impressive meal!

White ceviche and cecina tostada Excellent beginning to the meal Octopus tostada Amazing dish I fell in love with. The softest octopus I've ever had. Great for people who like citrus flavor profile. Chirmol short rib recommended on michelin guide. It is definitely something you should try Beef tongue Tongue on its own would have been too fatty and heavy. However all the accompaniments on the dish was designed to perfectly balance the flavor of the dish. It was exceptional. Impeccable service all around. Our table was actually wobbly and the sever fixed it for us soon as he noticed while clearing appetizers. Bananas Delicious, soft, sweet. Mostachon tropical Very unique dish with multiple textures. Very happy we went with it.

Let me start by saying that I still dream of their SeaBass Risotto after a month I visited!🤤♥️ It was one of the best mains I’ve ever come cross in Mexican cuisine or my eating career. Those greens on top of the fish were not just to make the presentation pretty and colorful for the looks, they serve the core purpose of the dish to complete the flavor and it was absolutely perfect🤩 Their staff with their services helped me at my table for my experience here was flawless. They are all wonderful, friendly and professional🥰 The decor and vibe of this place were beautifully arranged♥️ I went in early dinner hours so the place was nice and quiet and I truly enjoyed the entire experience. Deepest gratitude to Carmela y Sal team for such an amazing dinner and I’ll see you all very soon when I’m back in Mexico City!

I’d give the food 3 star but service 5 star, so overall 4 star. We ordered the following: - octopus tostadas: 2/5. Although the ingredients are high quality, it’s so salty that it overpowered all the other flavors that it is designed to offer. - Beet salad: 5/5. Refreshing, sweet and sour base flavor and additional herbs, adding to the complexity. The texture is a combination of smooth beet and the crispy sesame seeds and something saucy. It’s a very well thought-thru dish! - Corn as risotto: 2/5. Kind of salty, but not much other flavor. I thought it’d be creamy / cheesy, given that’s what Risotto offers, but this dish is none of that. It’s just corns in some white sauce without much flavor. - (main dish) risotto with white fish: 3/5. High quality fish, but somewhat quite sour. It has avocado which helps balances the sourness but not much other flavor overall. - (main dish) fish between Mone and Pippin: 4/5. My partnered ordered this and I tried it. High quality fish, sauce is really flavorful though I couldn’t taste what it is made of. - (desert) mango with coconut: 5/5. Perfect combination of diced mango, smooth coconut creams and sago. A very Asian styled desert with well-balanced flavor. Service is attentive, polite, friendly, and they don’t “overstep” like constantly checking in and interrupting your conversations.

Great first dinner in Mexico! Extremely friendly service despite a slight language barrier and our limited Spanish. I really loved the mostachón and poc chuc. I would like to come back and try the other dishes!
