Where to Find the Best Food in Cartagena, Colombia

"Set in a colonial hacienda with a polished yet relaxed dining room and a romantic open-air courtyard centered around a large tree, this upscale outpost of a celebrated Medellín restaurant offers refined, ingredient-forward cuisine. Choose from seven- or nine-course tasting menus or à la carte dishes that highlight top local producers; standout preparations include a seafood chorizo (“chorizo de mar”) and a playful, luxurious seafood stew nicknamed “Don’t Call Me a Cazuela,” featuring lobster, octopus, and mussels in a white fish and plantain bisque. The tasting menu is recommended for a full exploration of regional flavors." - Ksenia Prints

The 26 Best Restaurants in Medellín, Colombia | Eater

"After graduating from culinary school in San Francisco in 2008, Carmen Ángel and Rob Pevitts arrived in Medellín to open Carmen, breaking new ground in the restaurant scene as they began to explore Colombian cuisine in a refined way. Dishes at this modern bistro reflect the work of small producers and the flavors of a biodiverse country, like the hit crab and shrimp empanadas with ají de guanábana (soursop chile) and vanilla aioli, or the oven-roasted Colombian pork ribs with mongo mongo barbecue sauce (prepared with green papaya, mango, mamey, pineapple, and sweet plantain) and Caribbean cassava cake. The cocktail program also celebrates the country’s flavors through ancestral distillates, herbs, and fruits." - Liliana López Sorzano

Amazing place! The food was special; they highlight ingredients that I didn’t know about. I had the tasting menu with paring; the drinks were even better. Service on point. I sat at the bar, and the bartenders were knowledgeable and had a great sense of hospitality. I would like to come back to order à la carte. I feel like there were some gems on the menu that I didn’t get the chance to try.

We had only a very short stay in Medellín, and were looking for a complete, memorable dining experience and we found it at Carmen. We chose the 7-course tasting menu featuring creative, sequential dishes made with local Colombian ingredients, each paired with carefully selected beverages from the restaurant. It was a rich and flavorful journey through Colombian cuisine. We were served by Marlon, who elevated the evening with his excellence, kindness, and warm smile, truly enhancing our experience. The reservation process was also smooth and pleasant, thanks to Valerie, who was responsive and helpful from the start. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a top-notch culinary experience in Medellín.

Carmen is not to be missed when in Medellín. The chef’s intention shines through in the composition of each dish, with ingredients and flavors coming together in complementary, balanced, and sometimes surprising ways. The plates are globally sophisticated, but their local grounding creates a unique experience. Carmen’s place on “best of” lists is well-earned — this was the best-value meal I’ve ever had. You simply don’t find this level of sophistication at this price point. The atmosphere offers options to suit different moods — a dynamic entrance level with music and energy, a quieter downstairs space for relaxed conversation, and intimate outdoor seating.

Great Valentine’s Day experience here. No need for reservation, we walked in at 8:30 PM during weekend. We ordered a bottle of white wine, 3 appetizers and two main dish. The total cost is around 800. 000. Highly recommend the dumping and the short rib. Great vibe for date. You won’t get disappointed.

Dining at Carmen was an unforgettable culinary journey. We did the chef’s tasting menu (8 or 9 incredible courses), and every single dish was a masterpiece—creative, beautifully plated, and had tons of unique flavor. Meeting Chef Carmen herself was such a special touch; her passion and artistry shine through in every bite. Our server, Javier, was phenomenal—attentive, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable about the dishes. He made the entire experience feel personal and seamless. This was hands-down one of the best meals we’ve ever had. If you’re in Medellín and love exceptional food, Carmen is an absolute must.

Carmen Medellín was pure magic. The food was so outstanding I basically had an out-of-body experience — every bite was layered, surprising, and unforgettable. Sebastian, my server, was an absolute rockstar. Attentive, intuitive, and genuinely passionate about the menu, he made me feel like I was the only guest in the room. His energy elevated the entire night from “great dinner” to “once-in-a-lifetime experience.” If you go, treat yourself to the tasting menu — and absolutely ask for Sebastian.

The entire place is stunning. We were seated next to the entrance, which wasn’t an issue and turned out to be the nicest spot inside the restaurant. We arrived for lunch with a reservation. We started with empanadas and salad, accompanied by two delicious mocktails. Everything was excellent. For the main course, I had a tender loin, and my partner chose the pork. Both dishes were bursting with flavor, generously served, and came with a side salad to share. The highlights of the lunch were the desserts. I opted for a banana split, which featured high-quality ice cream and sorbet. The best plantains were filled with caramel, making it insanely delicious and decadent. My partner had a meringue with ice cream, Pavlova style, topped with red berries. It was another hit. It’s a really good dessert. I would absolutely recommend it, and I think their dinner setting is just as nice.

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! Food and cocktails were simply delicious and our waiter, Javier, was really kind. It was my partner’s birthday and we got an extra cake with a candle, much appreciated.
