The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi, India | Eater

"Price Range: $$ For perfect dosas, fanatics will send you to Malleswaram or old Bangalore, where the favorite South Indian breakfast comes in many varieties. Carnatic Cafe brings those varieties to Delhi in a rustic, comfortable setting, where diners from South India can get a taste of home to start the day. Get the soft and buttery Malleshwaram 18th Cross dosa, which is smeared with a fragrant powder made from coconut, lentils, and red chiles. For snacks, the cafe does a plate of puddu, deep-fried balls made from rice flour and ghee. To drink, there is coriander-spiced buttermilk and strong South Indian coffee brewed with freshly ground beans in a steel pot. Must-try dish: For something simple, try the plain rava dosa, a rendition made with semolina and served with an array of chutneys." - Sharanya Deepak

The special dosas (Maleshwaram and Bombat ) are so good but really heavy, but then the server had told us this before but we wanted to try something different. The Paddu was also nice but deep fried and thus heavy too. I thought Coconut jaggery ice cream is over rated though the Filter coffee is to die for. Service is good and fast. Was almost full on a Friday evening. Was done dining in just 45 min which is great.

We went for family dinner. There was some waiting time for us as we were 6 people. Table for two is easily available. We ordered Set dosa, Rava idli, Masala dosa, Medu vada and Rasam papad. The food was good in taste. All the items have a slight sweetness in taste as probably they add jaggery in all food items. So if you are not a fan of sweet taste in main course, it will be disappointing. The service is fast and the place is always occupied. We were done with our food within half an hour. It is a nice place, got a cozy cafe vibe. You can clearly see their kitchen and the orders they are preparing continuously. If you like to experiment with south indian cuisine from different regions, it is a must visit place.

Located in M block Greater Kailash, Carnatic Cafe is a hidden gem that brings the rich, authentic flavors of South India to Delhi with warmth and charm. From the moment you step in you will feel the rustic South Indian vibe – wooden décor, traditional motifs, and soothing Carnatic music in the background. The food is where Carnatic Cafe truly shines. Their Malleshwaram 18th Cross Dosa is an absolute must-try – crisp, perfectly spiced, and served with a generous helping of chutneys and piping hot sambar. The Mysore Masala Dosa and Bombat Dosa are equally delicious, offering a unique twist without compromising authenticity. We also tried the Jaggery icecream, which was flavorful and comforting, and the filter coffee, which lived up to every expectation – strong, aromatic, and served the traditional way. Portion sizes are generous, and the staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready with a recommendation. Prices are reasonable for the quality and experience, and the service is quick, even during busy hours. It’s a great spot for both casual dining and introducing friends to the diversity of South Indian cuisine.

Undoubtedly the best place for authentic south indian food in Delhi NCR. Woow. Love it. Butter Roast Dosa, Dahi Vada, Idli Vada and Thampu Soda is awesome.

Visited Carnatic Cafe in the late afternoon on a weekday, and there were plenty of seats, which was nice... I had heard a lot about this place, so I was expecting food closer to what you get in Bengaluru. The dosa was decent—pretty fluffy—but I was hoping for more crispiness, so it didn’t quite hit the mark for me.. The dahi wada was fine, but at 150 Rs for just one, I felt it was way overpriced.. Overall, it was fine, but I expected a bit more for the hype.

It's definitely my favorite go to place for south indian but I usually try to go to sunder nursery one! Their mahabalipuram dosa (the one with red podi masala on top of a thick dosa, soft inside and crispy outside with ghee) is a must. Super heavy but it's a replica of Rameshwaram (in Bangalore) which is my fav. We also loved their Paddu!! The drinks were sweet - thambu soda and another soda one (forgetting the name).

Visited the GL Carnatic Cafe and tried the following Dosas- Malleshwaram 18 Th cross dosa- the dosa was crispy but it’s little heavy with podi filling. Bombat Dosa - they give the filling separately. It was good. Mysore Masala Dosa - it was good as well. Sambhar is okay. Chutneys are great. Overall good experience.

I visited this place with my wife and 5-year-old son for dinner. We arrived around 7:30 PM and were seated instantly without any waiting. The service was impressively fast, and the food was delicious. The ambiance was decent, though not remarkable. The menu primarily features typical South Indian cuisine, offering a mix of familiar dishes and their own specialties. We tried the plain dosa, neer dosa, rasam papad and Bisi-Bele-bath, all of which were enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves South Indian food
