NYC’s All-Day Carnegie Diner Is Coming to the D.C. Area | Eater DC

"Opening June 5 in a 3,200-square-foot space in Vienna, Virginia, I report that Carnegie Diner & Cafe (501 Maple Avenue W.)—a modern American diner named for its proximity to legendary Carnegie Hall but unaffiliated with New York’s Carnegie Deli—brings its first location outside the tri-state area. The 92-seat spot serves all-day breakfast (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.), including lobster-topped eggs Benedict, avocado toast, a BLT quinoa bowl, steak and eggs, a dozen types of pancakes, decadent waffles, and French toast, and it also offers its popular 24-layer chocolate cakes. Lunch and dinner menus include rib-eye steak, burgers, salads, Atlantic salmon, fish n’ chips, shrimp spaghetti, and spaghetti carbonara, while sweets range from pies and cupcakes to over-the-top milkshakes and a full page of healthy entrees like a souvlaki platter and an Impossible vegan burger. Owner and executive chef Stathis Antonakopoulos, a Greek restaurateur with D.C. ties who once served as director of operations at Kellari on K Street NW, will decorate the space with supersized photos of Carnegie Hall and musician portraits, and the bar lineup adds anytime-brunch drinks (mimosas, bellinis, bloody marys) plus wine, beer and cocktails." - Tierney Plumb

This is a nice spot. Definitely has a lot of variety as far as food, and the decor and overall vibe is pretty nice. It was busy! We had to wait about 20 minutes but not a huge deal. There were definitely some issues though. The good: The portions were enormous! With the pancakes, you get three giant pancakes and with some of the other foods, the plates were really large for your money is worth so it seems like you got a pretty good deal. The desserts are also very good. Also, the manager or Owner came over to check on us and make sure that we were doing OK which I appreciated. The bad: we tried the steak omelette. The portion was large, however the steak was very bland. The burger was a good size, to be expected . My wife asked for eggs and avocado on the side, and they charged us $5 for the eggs and another $5 for half of an avocado. On top of that , the server failed to mention that the gratuity was already included and the service was pretty average so it would have been nice to know that. Overall, a decent experience but room for improvement.

I recently stopped by Carnegie Diner & Café and tried Peter’s Special, which comes with half a pound of corned beef and half a pound of wagyu pastrami. The sandwich was really good — flavorful, juicy, and satisfying. As a transplant from New York, I’ll admit that Katz’s Deli still holds the crown for pastrami in my book, but this definitely hit the spot and brought back that classic deli vibe I’ve been missing. We also had the blueberry pancakes, which came topped with fresh blueberries and strawberries. They were light, fluffy, and a perfect sweet finish to the meal. The restaurant itself had a lively, bustling atmosphere, and the decor was stylish and definitely Instagram-worthy, making it a fun spot to enjoy a meal or snap a few photos. Overall, Carnegie Diner & Café delivers generous portions, great flavors, and a vibrant NYC-style experience that’s hard to beat.

We came here as a family and group of 7… We were promptly seated, but we did have reservations. Our server was great, very helpful and attentive. Their menu is quite big, with lots of sandwiches and brunch items. We each started with their fresh squeeze orange juice, which was really good. Their coffee is quite nice as well. Next was the entrées and those were all huge! Their sandwiches are really big, especially the club. I tried their Pastrami with egg sandwich (the Egg-Strami Sandwich) – so very good! The pastrami was moist, had a nice smoke to it, but very tender and flavorful! Would definitely return!!

The ambience and the location is all good. Ample free parking too. I loved the little desert corner they have to see those delicious pies and cakes they have to offer. Overall 10/10 for that. The decor is eye pleasing. A good first date spot. The food however was disappointing. The appetizers between calamari and nachos, calamari was a win while the spinach dip did not hit the spot. My husband and son did enjoy their meal not to the level of expectation we had from the place but yeah they did get to finish their plate. My omelet however was a sad let down. It had a weird metallic bad griddle bad oil taste to it and ruined it for me within the first bite so I requested them to take it back. They were apologetic and did not charge me for it and also offered a free desert for the mishap which I'm grateful for. The desert was a slice of cheesecake and it was delicious. I would still recommend the place for its hospitality, service and clean soothing ambience. Maybe it was just my tough luck.

We were in the Fairfax area and getting hungry late in the evening, so we searched for nearby places to eat. Carnegie Diner popped up, it was just a few miles away, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 9:15 PM (they close at 10), but that wasn’t an issue at all. We were actually the only table there at the time. The inside was clean, bright, and smaller than expected, but still a nice, welcoming space. The menu is large and features mostly New York-style dishes, which makes sense since that’s where they’re based. I ordered the cheeseburger topped with pastrami, which came with fries and a small salad, it was a big burger and really flavorful. Others in our group tried the Reuben with pastrami, the buffalo chicken sandwich, and the most unique item of the night: a burger with fried mac and cheese buns. Our server was friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. The dessert display looked amazing, but we didn’t have a chance to try anything this time. Overall, a great find, excellent service, tasty food, and a solid late-night option.

Carnegie Diner offers all day breakfast and brunch, as well as your more usual lunch and dinner fare. We skipped the breakfast items in favor of burgers and chicken sandwiches (the fried chicken BLT was delicious) but we were really there for the 24 layer chocolate cake that’s made them locally famous. We did not have a reservation on a Sunday, so we ended up waiting about 20 minutes for a table, not a big deal to us. Once seated, our waiter showed up quickly to bring water and introduce himself. We had studied the menu (huge menu!) while we waited and were ready to place our orders immediately. Food arrived very quickly and everything was prepared perfectly. Portions are very large - sandwiches come with fries on the side as well as a side green salad and everything is so tasty it’s hard to save room for dessert. Our waiter kept the water topped up and checked back to make sure we were good several times without hovering. The 24 layer cake, when it came, was simply enormous. Rich, chocolatey, moist and fluffy and not overly sweet. Huge winner in our book and easily reason enough to give five stars. The only down sides were how noisy the restaurant is when it’s full (which of course it would be on a Sunday) and the food from previous diners which was not cleaned off the seats. Not crumbs either - wet bits of lettuce and some bits of fried chicken. Still, I would absolutely return. The food is just so good.

I have been wanting to try this diner for a while and glad I was able to go finally. I will definitely be back. They give you a large portion that can fees more than one person and it's all delicious. It was a little crowded so I recommended making a reservation if you are going for a Sunday brunch. Our server, I believe his name was Pablo, took good care of us. He was running around servicing a lot of tables but still took care of us. Can't wait to go back and try more dishes. I got the symphony breakfast and I got an entire second breakfast from it!

I have recently been on the hunt for the DMV‘s best chocolate piece of cake. I’ve tried my fair share of chocolate cakes from the normal Cheesecake Factory and Ted’s bulletin but Carnegie definitely takes it up a notch. When I first saw a picture, I was completely sold. The customer service was great. There is a lady who helped to get the cake out the showcase window. She put on gloves before handling the cake and cut me two great slices to go. This was the best piece of cake I’ve had in a very long time. It’s dense, rich, and has multiple servings. As of right now, this stands as the best chocolate cake I’ve ever had. I look forward to going back.

Yelp
Carnegie Diner is a family-friendly, casual eatery in Vienna, Virginia, offering a wide menu that includes classic diner fare, breakfast dishes, sandwiches, burgers, and vegan options, along with a variety of coffees and desserts. We tried the Southern chicken with waffles and cranberries, which was delicious and served in generous portions. The eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, however, could be better in quality, as the hash browns took up half the plate, making it feel more like a carb-heavy meal rather than a healthy choice. The coffee was disappointing--too acidic and bitter--and the service was slow, despite the restaurant not being busy.

Yelp
Ehhh... it was Ok. I think there was a lot of initial hype because it's a famous institution in New York, but I doubt I will go back. To be fair, I went for dinner so maybe breakfast is where this place really shines, but everything we had was... meh... My husbands Rueben was ok, not bad, not great and my burger was perfectly average, so yeah - with so many other choices in the area, I probably won't be returning. Might be your thing if you are into over the milkshakes - I am not so I can't comment but the pictures looked crazy good

Yelp
I have sampled the cuisine a few times. The atmosphere is inviting and the wait staff are always very friendly. Of the various items I've tasted, at the top is the Pastrami Sandwich. The meat is quite tender and very flavorful. My only concern is the price ... of which everything seems to be too high. For example, the Pastrami Sandwich at the time of this review was $24. Then you add a beverage and tip and you are over $30 ... for a sandwich and a drink???

Yelp
Bad food. I'm surprised how their location is still open. From a basic grilled cheese to artichoke dip and pasta everything tasted horrible. Decor also very bright lights and tacky with plastic flowers. Save your money and go to any other local authentic spots. Not all restaurants that claim are in few more locations are same but are managed by different management and chefs. Waste of time and money.

Yelp
It really does look like your going to Carnegie Hall! I really love how bright Carnegie Diner & Cafe is because of all the windows.. they have a local Pumpkin fall decor in the back left and front doorway which is one of the most prettiest designs I've seen this Fall 2025. They are doing this to support a local fundraising and to entice customers to dine in. I was amazed how spacious the interior is and there's at least 10+ bar stools to eat here at the wine bar. They have an amazing options of food choices with a 8+ menu that has beautiful image samples on the left side pages of their laminated spiral notebook. I will definitely come back here to eat for dinner, maybe bring my entire family since they have a huge comfy yet mid century modern booth community wall sitting area that seats at least up to 25+ people! Everything is clean, organized, and very spacious which I love very much! They were featured on Fox 5 year or two ago and I finally decided to stop by this morning for breakfast. They also have ample dessert choices that includes cakes, bread, and cupcake choices! A must try diner & cafe

Yelp
Came for a Sunday brunch without a reservation and they had no issue fitting us. It was pretty busy, but not insane. I went with the avocado toast and got a side of the wagyu pastrami. The avocado toast was quite good- the salad it came with and the toast itself had a lot going on. The pastrami, on the other hand, was a few pieces of meat for $10. Otherwise, service was okay. The servers required multiple reminders for many requests but ended up getting them done.

Yelp
The interior is very modern and trendy, not what you would expect for your typical diner. The service was off from the start. No utensils on the table or even after the food came out. It took about 10 minutes for the server to come to take our order. Once the food did come out, everything was lukewarm except the omlette, which was very overcooked. At almost $20 for a very plain omelette, I was very disappointed. On top of that, the other sandwich we ordered (Reuben pastrimi) had a measly mini cup of saurkraut on the side, no cheese, no sauce. When asking the person who brought the food, he said "thats how the sandwich is." Overall, terrible service, forgettable food and disorganized all in all. I would not come back.

Yelp
This place was bustling even at 8am! Pancakes were fluffy and huge! French toast was delicious and hash browns were crispy. They serve everything with real maple syrup and a fruit cup. The mimosas were also great with the fresh squeezed orange juice. It gets busy here on the weekends so I would definitely try to make a reservation before coming to help get you seated sooner.

Yelp
A fun addition to the area! The menu is excellent and almost overwhelming- tons of different options for basically anything you could want. I was a huge fan of the pancake menu, with probably 10 different kinds of pancakes. Our server told us the Nutella, banana, and strawberry pancakes are one of the most popular picks; my dining companion got those and they were excellent. I got the peanut butter and bacon pancakes, which were also really good and very fun. I appreciated that most of their menu options are pretty reasonable- mimosas are only $5! We didn't get to try the chocolate cake, but it is one of the stars of the show for sure- love that it has its own rotating fridge on the countertop. Even though it was bustling, our server was friendly and attentive, and food came out quickly. Our only real complaint was that it is LOUD inside, especially in the room to the left when you enter. My companion and I had to lean in the entire meal to hear each other and even doing that, we were basically yelling. It did make us think twice about whether we'd want to come back.

Yelp
So I had really low expectations for this place but MAN I was very happy how things turned out. I loved Grilled Chicken Sandwich I think the best one I have ever gotten was from here. The vibes were dope and my wife and I can't wait to come back again :)

Yelp
This place was quite good I had a 18 oz pastrami on rye it was delicious everybody loved it in our party the wait staff was amazing it had a very nice atmosphere especially being able to sit and watch people walk by I loved it! 8.7 out of 10 it was kinda pricey tho for the 9 of us $250 but that's what I would expect in Times Square

Yelp
Had a very enjoyable dinner here, and there is something for everyone. I'm from New Jersey original, so was happy to hear that this NY style deli opened recently. I am not big on pastrami, but was not going to pass it up when I came here since that is one of their specialties. The pastrami sandwich was lean, and not too fatty, which I appreciate. It came with a pickle, side salad and coleslaw, which was plenty of food to fulfill my hunger. For desert, we had the oreo chocolate cake which was a bit too sweet, but still pretty good. Very nice decor here, with music albums and broadway themed pictures throughout the restaurant. Plenty of cushioned booths here, so it was very comfortable. I recommend reservations if you come on a Saturday evening, as it was very crowded. Will definitely be back at some point.

Chris S.

Yelp
Entering (and when I left, later) you are treated to the overwhelming stench of cow shit (manure). The lobby is decorated for Fall, with lots of pumpkins and such. Including bails of hay. Someone didn't realize that you need to buy fresh straw for that kind of thing -- apparently they picked up some garbage straw that was mixed with animal shit. This stinks, and is spreading dangerous bacteria in the restaurant. When you make a display like this, it should smell sweet. Not literally like shit. The service was prompt and friendly. But I was careful when I ordered to say that I would like an APPETIZER (calamari) to come FIRST, then my sandwich (Reuben). They came in the opposite order, about 60 seconds apart. So my food was getting cold before I even started. The calamari had some very weird (Asian or Middle Eastern) wet sliced vegetable on top of it. Very bad smell. It was advertised to come with aeoli, which I expected in a dish, but that was instead slathered all over it. Before going, I asked a friend what she had heard about it. "Expensive but really huge sandwiches, so big it's hard to eat them." To which I replied, "Oh, like New York! Good!" But it turned out that while the sandwich was expensive ($24), it was quite small. A complete rip-off. You can go down the street to any number of delis in the area and get a Reuben that is MUCH better. It was comfortable and well-lit when I came in, but suddenly they turned out all the lights. They seem to think it's a nightclub or something, but that made it hard to read the dessert menu. A "diner" is not a place you go to sit in the dark. The New York Style Cheesecake slice was okay, or it could have been; it was very cold and hard. They don't have matzo ball soup, they don't have pickles, they don't have egg creams, and they don't have any traditional NY Deli things at all, except for corned beef and pastrami. They have an extensive breakfast menu, and they have burgers. I didn't try any of those things and won't be coming back. It's like IHOP only insanely priced. This place is trying to pretend it's like a New York City diner, but it's more like they read a story about one and are doing they're best to pretend. You know those ubiquitous cafes you find in office buildings around here, always run by some Koreans? They have decent fast food at those places and they are nice for a quick lunch. This is sort of like that, although the portion sizes are smaller, and it costs five times as much. I used to eat at the Carnegie Deli in New York all the time, and frequent other delis in Manhattan when I'm up there. Or on Long Island. Or in New Jersey. This place is nothing like those. And there are plenty of middling to halfway-decent New York delis in Fairfax that are better and aren't a rip-off. I was REALLY hoping this place would be great. And I hate to write a bad review for a new restaurant. But it was a Major Disappointment.

Yelp
The restaurant is very pretty to look at, I love the atmosphere. The food was good and had very generous portions. I would love to go back for dinner, we enjoyed the brunch!

Yelp
I really want to give this place 4 stars for the service and steak, but the food just wasn't it for me. The steak was surprisingly cooked to perfection at medium rare! It was juicy and soft to eat, just needed salt and pepper. The hash brown was weird, tasting like it was baked in the same pan as pastries. There was barely a crunch to it. The fries were yummy, crispy and soft at the same time. The milkshake is only good for show: the chocolate cake was comparable to a grocery store's without the extra sweetness. The milkshake itself was meh with the ice cream they used. They do have a lot of tasty sounding food here, but I would skip the desserts.
google avatar

Elina Y.

Yelp
Presentation was two thumbs up but sadly to report, the quality of the food was quite the opposite. Came here due to a viral food review video and left disappointed. Chicken & waffles: chicken seasoning was nice but the meat was dry and overcooked. Waffles were too flimsy because the edges were not crispy. Steak & eggs: First time in life I had to add table salt to steak. I can be picky about salty food but the steak was so bland. Hash browns needed more seasoning too, and needed to be more crispy. Blueberry pancakes: The pancakes were so dry, even with the jam and maple syrup. Mimosa: This was the only item I have nothing to critique about. And for $5 each, makes it even better. Overall, I was expecting more, to say the least. I really wanted to like this place. The interior is spacious and I appreciated the cozy Carnegie-esque vibe. I would come back to give it another chance, but keeping in mind that they prepare food on the bland/safe side.

Yelp
Food was great, service was great, and the ambiance is very clean/ trendy. Will definitely be returning. There was a 1.5 hour wait when I came but it was worth the wait. Totally worth trying out.

Yelp
Service is incredible. Above a 5/5 for sure. Food came out fast, things were explained well, pretty wide range of things to order from, and beautifully designed. I would have appreciated a heads up of every dish comes with quite a lot of mixed green salad that didn't look the freshest compared to all the freshly made mains. The Reuben was very good. The meat is sliced thinly and was warmed perfectly through. The cheese could've been warmed more. I get residual heat should melt the cheese, but maybe a few seconds under a salamander/broiler would've really made it excellent. Nothing wrong with store bought mustard, but I was hoping for something more pungent. The pickle was a nice full sour. The carbonara was too bacon-y for me. It felt like a bowl of bacon and cream. I enjoyed the baklava and the spinach pie. Perhaps, I am feeling nostalgic for the closed Amphora. The dining experience was nice for a family. We didn't feel rushed even though it was full of guests. I'd definitely go back to work my way through the menu. Once again the staff is operating at such a high level here. I'm very impressed.

Yelp
We've been to Carnegie Diner & Cafe in Vienna twice already for early morning breakfast, and overall, it's been a great experience. The service is excellent--very attentive and friendly, which really adds to the meal. The food is also fantastic. The eggs, in particular, are fresh and don't have that unpleasant smell you sometimes get elsewhere. Everything we tried was delicious, and it's clear they put care into their menu. That said, there are a couple of areas for improvement. The outside area could use some cleaning and better upkeep--it's something that's easy to fix and would make a big difference. Also, we didn't see any owners or managers stopping by tables to check on guests. For a new business, it's a small touch that could go a long way in building a loyal customer base. Despite those points, we really enjoyed our visits. The staff is great, and the food is definitely worth coming back for. We'll likely visit again soon!

Yelp
Stopped in for a pastrami sandwich and was not disappointed. Felt like I was at a deli in NYC. The pastrami, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing and rye bread was on point. My wife ordered chicken soup and a Greek salad with no olives (Odd I know). She really enjoyed the salad which had extra feta cheese and tomatoes to make up for the missing olives. We did have a small problem with a turkey sandwich that was ordered by a member in our party who has a dairy allergy. The waiter was told that she could not have cheese. Unfortunately, cheese was accidentally added to the sandwich. This was brought to the waiter's attention who immediately sent a manager to our table. They were very apologetic and discounted the bill by 50%. It clearly was a mistake and the waiter felt bad. Hopefully in the future attention to food allergies will be a higher priority. Otherwise it was a nice lunch with good food and the service was great.

Yelp
I'm so glad I came here for brunch! There was a wait, which is typical for Sunday brunch, but it was ridiculously long. We got seated in 15 minutes and were soon after greeted by our waiter. He was very friendly and attentive despite it being a busy restaurant. I ordered a mimosa, and it was my first time seeing a mimosa with pulp. I didn't hate it, but I could've done without the pulp. I also ordered the classic French toast for my entree and got sides of scrambled eggs and hash browns. I loved the French toast, but I wish the hash browns were seasoned. Other than that, I enjoyed my visit and would visit again to try their other menu items.

Yelp
This place makes for a great addition to Vienna and NoVa as a whole. Probably the closest to an authentic NYC diner experience I've had since moving back from NY to the DMV area. There's a familiar dessert case with giant cakes in the front, massive portions on the menu, and a packed and buzzing busy environment. There's usually been a wait when we come on weekends, but the servers are efficient and we haven't had to wait more than 20-30 minutes, even on the busiest days. Parking is a bit tight, and it seems like the diner needs to negotiate for more exclusive spaces as they are by far the most popular establishment in the center. Food and drinks are delish - the iced lattes are by far the best diner latte I've ever tried. We usually get two entrees and split between my wife and me - we always have leftovers, too. We usually go for the Nutella pancakes and an omelette. Pros - NYC vibes, good food, huge portions, great coffee drinks Cons - parking can be a bit of a mess, busy at times

Yelp
First of all: breakfast all day. Yes, please. I fully support any establishment that believes omelets and pancakes should not be confined to the AM hours. Omelette? Pancakes? Happiness? Now let's talk desserts... oh wow. Giant cakes, cookies the size of your face, and unique creations that make you do a double take. It's like walking into a sweet-tooth wonderland. Each treat looks like it came from a dessert dream--and tastes just as magical. Friendly and prompt service. Fun! This place has something for everyone--creative dishes, great vibes, and it's super family-friendly. I already have my eye on the giant pastrami sandwich for next time. Because yes, there will be a next time.

Yelp
Location: 501 Maple Ave. Vienna, VA Website: https://carnegiediner.com/vienna-virginia Menu: see website Hours: see website Price: $$ ($20-$30 per person) Parking: a little tricky, don't let that stop you All the things you've heard about 'Carnegie Deli' are here in VA. A full page of pastrami-featured entrees as well as plant-based choices round out the upscale diner menu. Waffles? Yep. Pancakes? Absolutely. Omelette? Yaaas. Sandwiches? For sure. The service here is incredibly good. From the front desk, manager, and our server - very thoughtful and gracious attention. We had reservations for a large-ish group (9) so we had a bit of a wait to secure space. We did not mind one bit. Honestly, if you have the luxury of waiting inside for a table, consider yourself indulged. Between the baked goods case (cakes, pies, cheesecakes, cookie... you get the idea) and watching the plates pass you by toward their tables, your head will spin a bit in a combination of confusion and envy, influencing your own choice(s). Our table chose very wisely. 5/9 chose omelettes. Served with shredded hash browns, salads, and the best sourdough toast. 2/9 chose sandwiches, served with crispy fries, hats off to the one who chose the Truffle Parmesan topping. 1/9 chose the avocado toast topped with poached eggs and our final 1/9 chose Eggs Benedict which came with an impressive pile of hash browns. The food was somehow delivered very quickly after we ordered, particularly impressive considering how busy this restaurant is and how large our group was today. The quality is superb, and the portions enormous. Since I seem to be in an odd fractions mode, 6/9 or 2/3 of us had a leftover box. We are traveling to attend a family event and sharing a home - brilliant move to accommodate these delicious leftovers. (The thought of only having a hotel mini fridge and no room for these impeccable leftovers might have reduced me to pouting. Crisis averted.) I can always tell when my dining partners are hungry and enjoying their meal. It got very quiet. When I could tear my own gaze from my own plate, I looked around the table and everyone had that content, satisfied, relaxed look on their face as they focused on their own plate, also. We did some minor sharing (kudos to my partner who always lets me snag a fry so I could also experience the Truffle Parmesan delight) - everyone loved their meal. I will also confess despite fully believing we would each choose a dessert 'to go' for 'later' (or in the car on our way home?) I had no interest after my delicious meal. However, I was delighted to commit my ability to divide a dessert into 12 equalish portions when our hosts insisted on bringing us a slice of their 24-layer chocolate cake. All 9 of us ate our hack-job of my portioning and we added a 7th takeout box for the remaining 3 hunks of bliss. This is likely the real influence on fractions for this review as well. This restaurant is a delight. Decorated in an upscale 70's modern style, with warm blond wood tones and toned down earth tones blended with modern brass fixtures. The food is incredible and the quality and portions make the prices a fair value. Parking is a little tricky, and there is likely going to be a wait - but honestly, it's well-worth both minor inconveniences. I would plan on 1 entree for 2 people if you do not have ability to refrigerate your leftovers. However, the food is so darn good, if you have the means get your own entree, share bites, and unapologetically take home your leftovers.

Yelp
Went at 11am on a Sunday no reservation and the wait was super quick! It's a super cute place! Tons of sweet treats! The food itself was good, I think the avocado toast could have used some more flavor, the salted caramel waffle was amazing. The steak and eggs were also a good staple but again, could have used some more seasonings! Service was great!

Yelp
This is a regular staple and I come here for brunch every couple of weeks. I usually sit at the bar, Jason is great, friendly and remembers orders. Overall, relaxed atmosphere, not too noisy but definitely not a place for a quiet chat. I usually get steak and eggs, but I've had pan cakes, sandwiches and other things, you can't go wrong.

Nachogirl1 ..

Yelp
Nachos: absolutely demolished. This plate of nachos was pristine. Toppings in moderation, no overwhelming excess. The red jalapeños were excellent, but weren't as juicy as the green jalapeños. Perhaps the green were in jars with their juice and the red were freshly picked. I did side-eye the green onions... There are very few dishes which green onions would be suitable for as a garnish or topping, but not nachos.. not nachos. These nachos hold great potential, I believe in their potential more than I believe in mine. My posh friend did not anticipate liking the nachos but ended up loving them, so much so she gave up eating them with a fork and knife (diabolical to begin with) and just ate them with her bare hands like us common villagers. All else: I took a bite of my friends buttermilk pancakes and nearly lost my mind. What a privilege it is to experience delicious food. It felt like biting into the most delicious warm cloud covered in the most delicious maple syrup. They have cute little syrup bottles, I wanted to take one home but was too shy to ask. Also, I'm quite sure the sweet manager lady going around and checking on customers was an angel in disguise. I was in complete awe of her. Also, beware, there's this big tall scary chocolate cake that stares at you the whole time you're there. avoid making eye contact with it. It spins in circles too.

Yelp
We have heard and read a ton of great reviews about this place for brunch so we had to check it out. First off, make sure you have a reservation because this place is incredibly busy and you will not get seated without a reservation. Heck even with a reservation, we had to wait 20-25 minutes to get seated. The staff is incredibly friendly and hospitable so we really didn't mind the wait. After we got seated, we were served right away. Although the menu offering was impressive, the food was pretty average when it came to quality and taste. We ordered a variety of items to try a little bit of everything. All the portions were huge. However, the steak and eggs and omelette could use more seasoning. The burger and pastrami sandwiches were pretty average and nothing special although these were featured as favorite items. The pancakes were actually pretty tasty and probably the best breakfast item on the menu. I'd recommend sticking to the pancakes and waffles more than anything.

Yelp
I tried Carnegie Diner back in June and I can still vividly remember how great the food was there. This used to be Yellow Diner but it changed owners and here we are. I came here after work to try out this place after it being recently open. I sat down among the many tables that were filled with other patrons delighted to eat their delicious food; I heard many good things prior the visit and I was hoping to get a taste of the food for myself. This place was packed with young adults, many seniors, and a lot of smiling faces. The menu is really vast, it's actually shocking that there's so many things I want to order but I would not be able to finish them all. That's why multiple visits are required, right? I got the Symphony Breakfast which comes with your choice of bread. I got wheat toast. It comes with three organic eggs of your choice with potatoes, fresh fruit, either bacon/ham/sausage or smoked salmon ( an upcharge ). Alongside it comes with coffee or tea or even a small orange juice. Talk about the vast options you can get. It comes with a free drink too? That's just the cherry on the top. When my food came out I was not expecting a hefty meal worthy of the name. The food speaks for itself and while it's just breakfast food consider this; when was the last time you have been to a diner/breakfast chain and asked the question, " Am I getting my money's worth? " Believe me this was enough to get me full and I eat a lot. I could talk about how delicious the food is but I'm sure you already know my verdict on it. I can not really fathom how get so much food + drink for such an affordable price. The server was also really nice too and came back to check on me despite the chaos that was surrounding us. It was every seat that was filled up during my visit and he was really able to handle it. One big plus is that you can also check out with your server with one of those mobile ordering devices. I wish more places had that to be honest.

Yelp
Great food and service. Beautiful unique restaurant. I had a great blue burger only problem was the bottom half of bun got soggy and fell apart.

Yelp
From New York to Vienna comes the Carnegie Deli and boy does it bring everything with it! From plant-based offerings to a page of pastrami to desserts to breakfast to amazing looking milkshakes there is so much to try! Today we opted for dessert! We had the OMG 24-layer chocolate cake which was so big and yummy rich that we couldn't even finish it! No problem as a to go box was handy. But, even the leftovers of the cake were so big that I had to cut it in half to fit it in the box. Now that's an awesome problem to have! We did finish the coconut custard pie which was just the right amount of chewy coconut and creamy cream with a solid crust. Little did we know that it was happy hour and drinks were half price so we tried to of the margaritas. One was a strawberry and one was a pineapple. You can order them spicy (with spice around the rim) or with a salted rim. We would have loved to make them frozen but the machine was temporarily out of order. The room we sat in was very sunny and kind of indoor outdoor with lots of windows. What a relaxing and happy place with all the flower stickers on the windows and all those desserts. Plus our server was super nice and upbeat. It all made for a really relaxing and pleasant experience. We look forward to returning to experience the many other pages of their menu.

Yelp
Food was very tasty! Fluffiest pancakes I've ever had and the blueberry compote was perfectly balanced. Also the orange juice is fresh squeezed! The restaurant was very cutely decorated. Service was friendly but not as attentiOnly complaint is the price of the eggs we ordered.

Yelp
Carnegie is for sure a pretty setting inside and an expansive menu of options ranging from breakfast to more savory lunch/dinner options. The service is Always fast and friendly which is always great for any diner. There's always a busy buzz about the diner when I'm there. I haven't tried the breakfast options yet but will on a future visit. This visit I tried the lobster roll which was decent (had a touch too much mayo) with the cheese and bacon fries and which were plentiful and crispy. The Brussels on the side were pretty oily and soggy in not a good way. The flavors were there but the texture was off. Didn't opt for a dessert this go around but there are plenty of options to include the jumbo slice of chocolate chocolate cake.

Yelp
While a bit on the pricey side, I have to say I am impressed with the quality of ingredients as well as the execution of the food. I generally find American fare bland and often uninspired, but the food here is familiar and loyal to a basic root while still being seasoned and distinctive enough to garner its own mark; be memorable; and constitute something as delicious as it is noteworthy. Definitely rich and packing on the calories, the pastrami and beef offerings are all a delight for the intrepid food enthusiast. Highly recommended.

Yelp
12.95 for kids chicken fingers and fries, drink 4.95 (bottled apple juice) not included. 11$ for a tiny mocktail. 23.95 for a penne with chicken and the chicken was inedible. 2 SIDES of mac and cheese for 20$. $256.92 subpar dinner for a family of 5 including 2 kids is NOT acceptable we will never go back.

Yelp
Likely because it's still new but service and food was alright at the time I visited. Ambiance was pretty cute and lively. Food: I got the steak & eggs. It was more of a pile of fries and salad tossed onto the plate. Although on the menu it said it came with hashbrowns, I was disappointed to not receive exactly what I expected. Didn't get to choose my choice of bread and received whatever was given. The toast was not to my liking. Friend got the protein sunshine omelette and she also received the wrong toast. Seems like we weren't given a choice even though it said so on the menu. Overall food was alright. Will wait until they settle in more before thinking about coming back. During dinner we each only received one expensive napkin. Asked a manager as he was walking around if we could get more napkins for our table and he said "I don't know if you could" and walked away. He never got us more napkins. We ended up waiting a while more until our waiter checked up on us to finally ask for more napkins but they gave us each only one. What's the point of expensive napkins if you're not going to let guests use it?

Yelp
Don't always listen to these TikTok food influencers , they just want free food and content!! I've had their big layered chocolate cake which is indeed good not gonna lie. But for the breakfast- do not come here. I am beyond disappointed. I was super excited because the food looks so good in pictures. I started off with orange juice honestly, was pretty good freshly squeezed! But for my food omg . The steak was dry, no seasoning, and cold. I knew not to trust it . The eggs had such a weird smell to it, it grossed me out so bad but the salad wasn't bad. You will not catch me here ever again. After leaving my stomach hurts.

Yelp
Quality has gone way down since they opened. Had several disappointing visits and decided to try one last time this morning for breakfast. Ordered an omelette and husband got steak and eggs. The hash browns were an inedible pile of sad soggy oily potatoes. Toast was cold. Omelette was overcooked with 3 slices of avocado. I complained about the potatoes to the waiter and nothing was done. No visit from the manager, offer to get something else, or compensation in any way. For the prices this place charges they could make sure the food is excellent. They also had no muffins which was what my toddler wanted. With the lack of diners in the area I really had high hopes for this one but won't be back unless they turn themselves around.

Yelp
We were invited to lunch with family at the new branch of Carnegie Diner and Café in Virginia for lunch. Tucked away in a small plaza (hint not easy to find parking), it is a much smaller version of NY and packed with diners. It apparently just started accepting reservations on Open Table last night. After a 35 minute wait we were seated and N Nazuk was our server We ordered a Reisling, sauvignon and soft drinks. For appetizer the guac and chips. Main courses: Fish and chips (vey small fish and lots of fries). Average Spaghetti carbonara (good) Carnegic classic (dry w/o mayo) One of our party ordered a pasts that was to come with chicken but the kitchen forgot to add and our server was nice to have it removed from the bill. Perhaps the best was the last and that is dessert. We ordered the Tres Leches and Orange Pie and both were excellent. Its new with staff so growing pains but a lot to get to par with New York. May give it another try in a few months.

Yelp
Carnegie Diner & Cafe is so cute when you walk in and the case of desserts look so appetizing! But, unfortunately the food leaves a lot to be desired. I think with a few tweaks this place could be really good. I came for brunch on a weekday to give it a try. I ordered the eggs Benedict with lobster. It sounded so yummy and there was a pic in the menu that looked really good. Shortly after I ordered, I was told they didn't have lobster today. Huh? Then why put it on your menu?? So, I changed my order to the classic Benedict. When it came out, one of my eggs was clearly broken and when I cut into it, it was RAW. Gross. I asked for it to be remade (to the very nice and helpful Manager). Andddddd it came out raw - AGAIN! He was visibly upset to see that the kitchen had messed up my order again. I can say that the egg that was cooked was pretty tasty. Good hollandase sauce and nicely griddled Canadian bacon. The dish also came with hashbrowns and a salad. I found the hashbrowns to be bland and the salad dressing was very sweet. Not a fan. Some of the other food that was coming out of the kitchen looked good. Maybe they were having an egg-poaching off day. The Manager comped my meal and sent me home with some carrot cake, which I appreciated. Hopefully once they're open longer then can make some tweaks and improve.

Yelp
3.7 stars The interior is much nicer than a standard diner. The vibe was very "energetic" as well. We went on a Saturday, and there was definitely a wait, but this was in early June. The portions are large, and the service was attentive. I love how they use organic eggs! The Californian omelet was bland for my taste. My friend ordered the Country Style omelet and said mine was blander than hers after tasting both. I'm guessing this is due to the lack of meat in mine. The menu is very extensive as well, so I'm sure the experience could differ depending on what you order.

Yelp
This vibes of this place is the reason why I'll come back; food may not be the top reason though. Feeling a mixed range of feelings as we've mulled over our experience here. Went in early and luckily didn't have to wait long but wow, it got packed! We were part of the early morning crowd so we anticipated it being busy yet don't feel like it justified the quality of the food, which was subpar at best. Our kiddo loved the desserts, of course, as it is show cased as soon as you walk in- can't miss it. Do note you can grab dessert to go and get rung up by the register there BUT if you'd like dessert, order from your server as they would have to get it for you. Unfortunately our kiddo insisted having the last Oreo cupcake at that moment and we couldn't wait as our server seemed very busy! Our brunch entrees were... ok. The steak, in the steak and eggs, came out cold; not warm but cold. We asked for it to be heated up a little but it was just odd. Hash browns were hot and we looked forward to digging in as they looked perfectly crispy. Another miss as the hash browns were soggy and not crispy. It was odd, the hash browns looked crispy but they were mushy. I asked for over medium eggs but they came out over hard which was the least of my worries at this point. We thought the toast would be ok but it was stale. Salmon Benedict was not bad. Not the best but not the worst. We'll definitely have to go back but will skip brunch for now. We did discreetly let our server know about the rubbery/cold steak and soggy hash browns and he offered to make it right but we insisted he didn't. Will go back but only if there's no line.

Yelp
What a gorgeous restaurant! Attentive staff! Huge portions and a welcomed gem in the Vienna area! I had the caramel macchiato with an omelette and my son had the pancake. Thankfully he only ordered one! I can't wait to be back for a kid free night to try their cocktails!

Yelp
As diners go, this place is unique. It is a clean, upbeat, vibrant, busy and modern. Portion sizes were big and the service was nice (especially from the manager). Food was okay though (hash browns were made more in quantity than quality), and the prices were higher, too. Because it was busy, the place was very loud; I advise adding a few dividers between the tables for some privacy and noise reduction. Overall, the place is good, but granted the high prices and noise level, I don't see myself coming here often. 3.5/5

Yelp
It must be good given the restaurant was full, however it's unacceptable to sit 10 minutes and not see a server. I walked out.

Yelp
Came for dinner on Monday night - parking lot not the largest - had to squeeeze into tight tight space. The diner is so aesthetically pretty - very well done. The menu - typical American diner- salads, burgers, sandwiches, etc. Got the lobster mac&cheese, pastrami and blue salad. Meals were good thou on rich/heavy side - good portions. Friend got cheese cake to go - it is NYC diner after all. The space can get alittle loud esp in the alcove room. Overall enjoyed the experience.
