The 22 Best Tacos In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Carnitas Ricos operates out of a gas station near the South Terminal of the airport, but even if you have no plans to board a budget flight to Palm Beach, it's worth a visit. Order by the taco or by the pound, then watch as a massive, jiggly slab of pork—filled with golden bits of belly, fat, and skin—gets thrown onto a giant cutting board and minced into a beautiful meat mosaic. It’s served in a takeout container with a small mountain of tortillas for DIY tacos." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Carnitas Rico - Review - South Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Carnitas Rico operates out of a gas station near the South Terminal of the airport, which means the only way you’re ending up here by mistake is if you’re picking up snacks for the flight. Or maybe you're drawn in by the savory carnitas smell wafting through the parking lot. This place shares a kitchen with a BBQ and burger spot, and while you can get some tasty smoked wings inside, don’t get distracted—carnitas are why you’re here. Even if you have no plans to board a budget flight to Palm Beach, Carnitas Rico is worth a visit. You can order by the taco or by the pound, then watch as a massive, jiggly slab of pork—filled with golden bits of belly, fat, and skin—gets thrown onto a giant cutting board and minced into a beautiful meat mosaic. The “personal” order comfortably feeds two for under $10, but you’ll want to get extra since the meat reheats well and tastes just as good mixed into whatever you find in your fridge later that night. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

This is a large and busy Mexican restaurant inside the Volco convenience store. There’s a few tables inside and a couple tables outside, but nothing fancy. The food is good and sometimes there can be a bit of a wait. It shares a kitchen space and counter with iron ranch, which is kind of odd. But it gives you more options for types of food to order.

Service goes above and beyond any other restaurant or food truck, much less for a gas station. Sensational food. I had the fried catfish combo.

My daughter and I went here for lunch on Friday. I had the catfish and my daughter had the half plate carnitas. It was fantastic. They need some more seating as there was actually standing room only. Who would have thought! I hope they don't change the staff or recipes.

This place has a great smell when you come in. You already know the carnitas are going to be so good when you can taste them just by getting a whiff of the delicious carnitas. Loved their service, very kind. Also, everything is very well-seasoned. Would highly recommend it if you're in the mood for some very yummy carnitas.

Incredible carnitas. Great price and delicious food. We’ll be coming here weekly from now on. Can’t wait to try their pastor, asada, and quesabirria as well
