"Carolina Kitchen offers a menu chock-full of hearty Cajun and Ceole creations. One of its best, the Creole grilled salmon, is a monster of a dish: 8 ounces of tender salmon slathered in a creamy sauce with crab meat and shrimp over a bed of mashed potatoes. And if that weren’t enough, it also comes with servings of mac and cheese and collard greens." - Stephanie Williams

Unfortunately my experience here was not what people hyped it up to be! My family and i drove up from Baltimore. We arrived around lunch time 2-3 the dining area was blocked off, we had to do Carryout and eat our food wherever there was seating. Upon ordering our food the prices were was not worth the quality of the food! The person taking our order barely spoke English. My mom had a catfish with crabmeat it had to be a tea spoon of crab meat if that …first red 🚩 ! Then i order fried chicken Mac and cheese and greens..the greens were horrible, sweet and not cleaned it gave a gritty flavor, lastly the Mac and cheese it was more cheese than it was Mac just a bowl of cheese ☹️ my girlfriend had salmon , yams and greens, the fish was fair, the yams were soupy☹️at $175 taking a 2 hour i was utter disgusted and disappointed! Even the people who lived in that area were shocked that i drove that far..they all said to me it was definitely not worth it! I have to be honest there needs to be some serious changes from staffing and especially the food!

Parking is an inconvenience. Customer Service was horrible; the two young women were dancing to the music while referencing a mutual acquaintance as "Bookey." A 16oz container of Chitterlings for $50 , 8oz for $35 which they would need to heat!!!!!!! You're better off getting the $18.99 bag from Giant already cleaned and cook them yourself. Prices are RIDICULOUS!! DEFINITELY was not worth the trip and will NEVER walk into this location again. The quality of food is deplorable. $16.96 for a whiting sandwich and mac-n-cheese which looks like mustard. Neither satisfying. NEVER AGAIN!!

It was my 1st time visiting, my friend recommended it because it used to be one of his favorite soul food restaurants, so I decided I'd give it a try since I was craving soul food for a minute now. The atmosphere was very relaxing and not too loud. Getting a place to sit was not an issue since we usually would sit at a bar instead of an open table. I requested an orange juice "was too acidy". Ordered an Old Whisky Martini "was good" Had shrimp appetizer "was ok", cornbread appetizer "was ok", I had spicy chicken with rice, " which was okay but could use some more seasoning & the chicken was a little bit dry" Mac & Cheese was a 6/10, and mashed potatoes were a 6/10. The price range is really high My friend had chicken wings along with mac & cheese (not sure what the ingredients in the wings were), he ended up having a bad reaction and ended up with swollen feet and hands. After meds and resting he is doing a little bit better but has a slightly annoying stomach pain. Overall, I'll say 4/10. I'm sorry but the only reason I didn't give a 1star is because the server "Kiersten" gave excellent customer service.

Google
This location was way better than the last one I reviewed. The service was great and the food was pricey $$$.. but every bite was succulent!! Good stuff here. My only small quip here was there was no wall separating the upright unerals in the bathroom. But the bathroom was very clean. This is a good spot. This meal cost $25 before the tip.

Google
As a repeat customer this place never gets old! So many options to choose from and all are d’lish. I got the southern fried pork chops smothered in gravy over rice, Mac and cheese and greens! Enough to take some home! Fast and friendly service!

It was family time again and it was great. The wait is long during the weekend up to 20+. Our bartender was very attentive to our table and our needs. The kitchen made sure all our food came out together. It was a nice environment, family friendly. One of our server didn't want to give us an extra order of corn muffins...not sure why. No one complained about the quality and quantity of their meal.

Google
The service was on point! We had Carlton as a waiter, and he was attentive and friendly. The drinks were delicious, they tasted like juice but carried a punch. The food was flavored well, and I feel like I had the right amount. The only thing I would change is appetizer portions. They were good, but they aren't really sharable. The manager, William, came to check on us, and it added a nice touch to the experience.

I really enjoyed my first actual visit to this little spot. I have been to quite a few places that claim to have that Southern style of cooking but could not live up to it. I'm from the deep South & I was very impressed. I felt like I was back home.

Miss I.

Yelp
Food good but service not the same. You used to be greeted and it was a nice home environment. Now it's mostly Hispanic so it takes away the southern feel. I used to always get "welcome welcome " not this time. However food was amazing

Yelp
Food is always seasoned , cooked with love ! Delicious Usually a busy establishment but the temperature of the food and the service is always good

Yelp
Been coming to Carolina Kitchen for years and mostly to this location, with occasionally visiting the DC location. Nice setup inside restaurant with takeout in the front and dine in seating toward the back. Fairly clean. Tables are properly spaced. But, do like to suggest to change out the lighting color, they one they have now makes the entire restaurant looks dull yellow. Food: delicious wings, chicken and cornbread. If you like fried southern cuisine, here is your spot. We like the sides as well: cabbage, rice and mac n cheese are my personal favorites. vegetarian options are limited . They do have salad. Other than salad, the only other vegetarian option will be some of the sides, but do not include cabbage and greens because they are cooked with meats. Drinks: they have a good selection of wine, liquor and nonalcoholic drinks, not an extensive list but good enough, especially given the reasonable price. Props to bartender Kirstin, who s beautiful, friendly and courteous. Service: mostly good, but can be inconsistent, especially since there has some Internal management and staff fluctuation. There are very limited street parkings.Do have a paid parking garage across from the restaurant. Very convenient. Normally cost $4 to park for 2-3 hr. Do recommend by IG @WineDinenVacay

Yelp
Ordered some veggie sides to go from here and it satisfied my very specific craving for collard greens, black eyed peas, mac& cheese and cornbread. The greens here are smokey and flavorful, not bitter or tasting too much like vinegar. The peas had a hearty broth they were cooked in that was seasoned well. The mac and cornbread rounded out this 3 side entree plate and gave me a great taste reminiscent of home.

Ebonei G.

Yelp
Food tastes like it was mixed with sugar. Banana Pudding $9 and tastes extremely bland. I only gave two stars because the ice tea & lemonade mix was good.

Yelp
I am a true regular at this restaurant prior to being on Yelp so, this is my 1st time reviewing this restaurant. I have always and will always rave about this black owned business. I have been to almost all of there open restaurants aside from a few new locations. Pros~ The food has always been on point every time I have came to any location. The corn bread muffins are brought out to the table with a buttery cinnamon glaze which is super sweet and delicious. I typically get a fish which could be salmon or catfish either fried or blackened. The sides are always bomb starting with the Mac and cheese, collard greens, sweet potatoes and potato salad. Yes, I order extra sides every time I go. Cons~ For this particular visit the service was just ok. The wait staff appeared to be very tired. I didn't see the familiar staff I have been use to seeing during my visit Dawn who would come over to our table for conversation. The major turn off for me was the paper print out menus. I did not like it at all because they were easily getting wet due the drinks sweating. The font was different sizes so it was very difficult to read. Some items were not available during dinner time but, it was not listed on the menu to reflect that. Overall, I am pleased at the growth of this restaurant chain with different locations including one much closer to me being built in Owings Mills. I have always taken friends and family to this restaurant because I enjoy their food so much. I will definitely return and hope the minor feedback is addressed.

Yelp
This was my first time at this location, When I lived in DC I use to dine at the original location in Largo Town Center. This location was bigger and the food did not disappoint me nor the drinks . Monique a beautiful young lady was my waitress very attentive and great recommendations. I had the smothered pork chops over rice, Mac and cheese and greens. My cocktail was a cherry Margarita

Lisa A.

Yelp
Thank you so much The food was amazing absolutely delicious Definitely will return again next time I'm in town. Lisa and Reggie Adkins

Yelp
Update 1/2/2025 Website is STILL under construction, but then they have the never to put they are opening 5 more locations. How can you open a new location but you cant get your website up after 6 years???

Monica G.

Yelp
I order from this location frequently and I do enjoy their food. I decided to try something different and use their catering services. They were offering different catering packages for thanksgiving holiday and I chose the silver platter which feeds 15 people and it included a rotisserie turkey, Mac and cheese, greens, yams and cornbread. My pickup time was Wednesday 11/23 @ 11am. The pickup went smoothly, I was in and out and the staff was very pleasant and even helped me take my food to my vehicle. What I didn't do was check everything to make sure all items were correct. I was so caught up in the smooth transition I failed to check. After arriving home I discovered I received 2 trays of yams instead of a tray of greens, so I had to go to store and purchase greens. The food was good and my family enjoyed the meal and we had a good time. I contacted Carolina Kitchen Friday to explain what happened. Let me say that Yvette I think she may be the manager but she worked with me from start to finish with this order and was very accommodating with my needs. She apologize and offer me several different options as to how I can be compensated for the missing dish, I chose the option to receive a credit so I will be visiting soon to get more food. I will definitely use their catering services again in the future for another event. Next time I will check all dishes before leaving to make sure everything is there.

Yelp
Ok so let's get into it. We got there and was told it was a 30 min wait. You know when they say that it's actually a 10-15min wait. Well this was actually 30 minutes plus. Finally we get seated and as I am walking I notice the restaurant has plenty and I mean PLENTY open tables. So I'm like kitchen must be slow. We sit and order, I order the lobster platter and my husband orders fried chicken, mash potatoes and collard greens and extra corn bread. Fried lobster was a no go for me ( I am from nyc) , shrimp was ok, spicy chicken wings were good so order that. Mac n cheese was Macin, the mash potatoes were good. My cocktail was also really good. Fried chicken was a bit too fried kinda dry but it was thoroughly cooked. All in all 6.75/10. Took too long to seat and serve us. Food was decent a little salty for my taste but ok. Server was nice but again took forever to eat . Ambiance is family oriented.p

Yelp
Take out today-- My family member told me that her job catered their Juneteenth event using Carolina Kitchen. She said the food was so delicious that the pans of food were eaten quickly. This made me think that I will be passing there on my way from the office, so I decided to stop by and pick up dinner. I am so glad I did. We ordered two meals; however, I only had time to take a picture of one. All of the food was delicious! I need their recipe for baked macaroni and cheese. Although, I like my macaroni to be a little bit more firm, I still give theirs five Yes, 5 stars because it's cheesy with a good quality cheese and it's flavorful. The collards are done right with great flavors; not too soft and and too firm. The yams apparently were a hit and not too sweet. Now if you like sweet that carrot cake icing is beyond sweet. The portions were large and I was only able to consume 1/4 of my plate, so there are leftovers for tomorrow. The service at the counter was prompt and friendly. Thanks Carolina Kitchen, you did your thing today.

Anya R.

Yelp
Very good food and very nice servers! The catfish and yams were spot on. The wait time was very long I think we waited 45 mins to an hour for our food but complementary honey butter biscuit was provided so that helped! Everything was very clean as well!

Kanisha L.

Yelp
By the time we got there, kitchen was closed so had to eat from the buffet. I had the salmon with mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese and collard greens. There was a white sauce that they recommended with the salmon which was delicious. The meal as a whole was good, I'd return for the menu experience.

Merlyz Q.

Yelp
*travel addition* This restaurant was packed and it was no wonder why. The food here is absolutely amazing! They give you warm cornbread with butter as your "bread" and it was so good. I got to try the mash potatoes with cheese 8/10 along with Mac and cheese 9/10 , and fried shrimp 5/10, the lobster and the salmon entrée 11/10. Lobster is my favorite food but the way they seasoned and cooked the salmon to perfection blew everything else out of the water. The best meal I ever had! (And that's saying a lot) if I lived in MD I would go there all the time no doubt about it! The service was good for how packed they were and the ambiance was nice for the space it's in! Ironically on Rhode Island rode! They had art and the music was good.

Cory M.

Yelp
Ok, ok, ok...let's start by saying that I truly truly adore this spot simply because the food is always good and it just reminds you of when you to your granny house who walks and slides her feet(that's a great thing) if you know, you know...lol!!! Hearing that "Welcome, Welcome, Welcome" brings a smile to my face every time and the service is always top notch and you're made to feel WELCOME...the ambiance of this establishment is always super chill and laid back, always CLEAN...but, the smells of that food coming from the back will have your taste buds DANCING and the flavors never disappoints me at all...the portions will have you in a corner(SLEEP)! Side note: that banana pudding by itself will make your day or night that much better! Everything was PHENOMENALLY DELICIOUS

Angela D.

Yelp
Don't let the cost dissuade you! The food is plentiful and will serve numerous meals The Creole salmon with crabmeat and shrimp was delicious. I got it over rice, but it is served over mashed potatoes, too. The Mac & Cheese is very good. My only problem with the greens was that I had asked if the food was truly Creole, not Cajun, so not seasoned with a lot of pepper. Therefore, I was unpleasantly surprised when the greens had too much pepper in it for me (don't tolerate very well). I was sorry that they had no cobbler as was advertised. The parking lot was a bit farther away that this elderly, disabled lady wanted. Otherwise, the staff was great, getting takeout was easy and the place looked really nice!

Otto G.

Yelp
I visited the express in Owings Mills. After waiting 25 minutes after placing a smothered pork-chop dinner, i have to go to the cashier and ask what was taking so long (keep in mine I already paid for my meal). My order was sitting on the counter without notification. That was not the worst of it. When I got home to enjoy the meal, the collard greens were extremely salty, the mac & cheese had to much cheese and not enough mac. I believe they will work the flow on the retail line in time, but if the product doesn't get better, they will lose business. I usually do not write reviews but I would love to see them succeed, however if it contributes to high blood pressure I will not be able to patronize. I hope the powers that be will sample the product and make the necessary corrections. I have visited the DC location and was very pleased.

Janathel S.

Yelp
Missing the old days at this location. I ordered a fish sandwich and I am disappointed. The fish was Luke warm and tough between lightly toasted bread. The portion was small. I requested a slice of tomato. It was not worth $14. Meh. The service, however was good. It's missing the original Southern joy of cooking.

Todd H.

Yelp
Consider the Chesapeake platter lobster tails fried crab cakes fried wings macaroni and cheese string beans mix lemonade tea also shrimp I didn't even see that

Chelsea M.

Yelp
Dined here 12/26/23 and unfortunately our experience wasn't one we'd like to experience again. The wait was 15 min and the place wasn't full. Looks like they only had one server. On the day after Christmas by a movie theater that is NOT ideal. 1. They weren't serving any alcohol but it's a bar and grill. 2. The cornbread was a plate drenched in way too much butter. We sent it back and asked for less butter and we never received another plate of cornbread. 3. Appetizer - We paid $17 for 6 medium shrimps - smh 4. We waited a long time for our entree and everything was oily. We left the food there. 5. Lastly, the waitress didn't know the menu. If a customer asks how a dish is; we expect some knowledge. 6. We were seated by a window and there was a draft. Me and my daughters were disappointed and left hungry. Spending over a $100 for nothing. Never again!

Angela N.

Yelp
Just left there and the cake is now $9.50, if y'all want to charge that much for that cake, you need a better baker so it taste better. The food portions are very small. I can no longer patronize them. I never liked the owner anyway. She's nasty and rude! Unwelcome, unwelcome, unwelcome

Sunshine D.

Yelp
**Late Review of New Years' Experience This review is solely based on NYE and not previous times that I have patronized Carolina Kitchen. I have been to Carolina Kitchen several times and have always enjoyed the food. The food is a little pricey, but they serve you nice portions. My father wanted Chitterlings for NYE and I do not cook them, so I recommended that he go here to get his traditional meal. What he received for $50 is ridiculous! I know most places will raise their prices for NYE but the portion size did not match the price at all. It was an absolute rip-off! He received 3 small containers for his chitterlings, black eye peas and greens. I do not recommend them for NYE meal at all.

Smitty S.

Yelp
So a coworker and I came around lunch time for a bite to eat and to catch up on some work . Our food was good , service was okay 6)3 music and decor was great . The only downside was that the bar was not open and there wasn't enough outlets available to plug a lap top in and work . Funny thing is there's a huge sign on the door that says "work from here " but that's hard to do when the outlets weren't available .

Harva T.

Yelp
Everything tastes like it should. We love this place nice jazz and R&B music plays in a nice casual atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Charmayne H.

Yelp
Literally the best soul food restaurant I've had. I'm not easily impressed by food... especially when it comes to soul food. A lot of places label themselves as soul food restaurants but aren't up to par. Carolina Kitchen is good! We visited D.C for my birthday in 2020. The next time I'm in the area I'm for sure going back! Around the time we went COVID cases were pretty high. They had dividers separating the tables and socially distanced well. The line was long but we arrived at the perfect time. To sum it all up, they don't owe me a thing!

Jessica J.

Yelp
I have not been to this restaurant since right before the pandemic, and I must say that they remain consistent with their food and their service. I had the smothered chicken and it was even better than I remember it. The cornbread is amazing. The staff are very friendly and made sure that we were well taken care of. I was glad to hear that they will be opening a Baltimore location so that I can go whenever I want.

Al R.

Yelp
I did carry out at the new Capital Heights, Md location. I ordered the jerk chicken with collard greens and candied yams (a staple I would order from the location next to Magic Johnson theater). I realize that restaurant prices have gone up since Covid (the last time I ate at Carolina Kitchen). The same meal a few years ago has almost doubled in cost. The downfall to meal was the candied yams were "soupy" with few pieces of yams. Otherwise, the meal was good. Probably not a carry out I would frequent often for the price.

Tiwanda R.

Yelp
The food & people are great, but check your orders because they forgot our orders twice & we never did get our crab cake we paid a lot for lol

Candice L.

Yelp
Everything is delicious here. I've never had a bad experience with the food. Service is fine but wait times to be seated can take a while. I prefer their takeout options because it's much faster.

Bredell W.

Yelp
My 2nd Carolina Kitchen experience was amazing. I'm talking about NBA Finals Game 7 4th quarter buzzer beater type feeling. I got to restaurant at 8pm, mind you I they close at 9pm. I knew the urgency of the situation so I walked straight to the bar and ordered. "2 Rotisserie Chicken Dinners", which includes Two Sides (Yams, Cabbage & Collard Greens) and complimentary honey butter cornbread muffins". I only spent $33 for Two dinners and 4 cornbread muffins. The waitress placed two succulent buttery cinnamon cornbread muffins in front of me at 8:05pm. I'm not sure how but at 8:07pm the plate just had muffin wrappers and crumb residue on it. I they somebody stole them, I don't know. I lie to you not, my order was in front of my face at 8:15pm. I decided I would try to finish both dinners before 9pm. I drizzled the Rotisserie chicken w/ The DMV's #1 sauce "Capital City Mambo Sauce" and got down to business. One chicken was just bones at 8:25pm. Pairing the chicken with the sauce was the best idea I had all day. Talk about a delicious sweet and slightly tangy grill flavor. I took a look at the chicken and said I'll get to you later. I went for the cabbage and the bowl was clean at 8:32pm. Though to some cabbage may be bland but im glad it wasn't salty like most are. It was sautéed for a nice soft chew. Next I attacked both bowls of Yams, which i demolished in 8 mins. The yams were cooked enough to keep the yam in tact but easy to mash when chewing. It was paired with a nice sweet cinnamon/nutmeg taste. A true blessing to my tastebuds, thank god for the Chef! I sat there for a for minutes and appreciated the ambiance and it felt like I was in Man heaven. There were about 10 flat screen tv's in front of me and were all showing sports. I was high on food at this point and in a euphoric state of mind. I thought about the cornbread I had earlier and asked the waiter very politely " can I please have more cornbread". It was now 9:50pm and stared at the Chicken and Greens with a defeated look. I had to admit, I gave it a good try but who was I kidding. They give you a good portion for your money. I decided to box them up and save them for later. While I was doing so, the cornbread bandit took my cornbread AGAIN. I was through at that point. Though I didn't finished both dinners in time I'm grateful I got to enjoy a great dinner for an affordable price. If you are in the area I recommend this restaurant and I recommend going to Giant across the street & picking up a bottle of Capital City Mambo Sauce to pair w/your Protein. Yelp
Carolina Kitchen has always been a pretty solid choice for good Soul Food in the DMV. I couldn't believe when I realized that I haven't given them a rating or review. I hadn't been in a while but I recently went to the Hyattsville location with my best friend for a meal before hitting the movie theater next door. We didn't have previously made reservations or anything. So, we had to wait about 45 minutes to be sat, which was fine because we are both pretty patient people. Once we got sat, our server was very nice and attentive. He took our order pretty quickly and brought our drinks and some cornbread muffins. Now, let me tell you, I must have forgot how good those cornbread muffins were...and Carolina Kitchen had to refresh my memory. So glad they did. They were delicious...warm melted honey butter all drenched in them with a light dusting of cinnamon on top. Absolutely delightful! Me and my friend just had to order another batch...we couldn't resist. Notice, I didn't get a picture of those muffins...that's how fast we ate them. Lol...10 out of 10 for those muffins. Both me and my best friend ended up ordering the same thing. We got the Meatloaf...I had mine with a side of Cabbage and Greens. The Meatloaf came with a BBQ sauce on top with a bit of shredded cheese on top. Pretty good portion size (it was thicker than it was wide) and flavorful. I'd give the Meatloaf an 8.5 out of 10. The Cabbage was decent, but not as flavorful or as soft as I'm used to. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. And the Greens were pretty good. I'd give the Greens an 8 out of 10. I will definitely be back. Also, I loved the music that the DJ was playing in the restaurant. Very nice touch to the experience. Overall, my experience was a 9 out of 10/ 4 of 5 stars.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
I remember when this restaurant was first opened and it's exciting to see the way it has become a staple to the DMV community with multiple locations. You're always greeted with a smile by people of all backgrounds so you immediately get the southern hospitality appeal. I don't even really like corn bread but, trust me, theirs never disappoints. This is my first time returning to this restaurant after more than 7 years and while they continue to bring an upscale appeal to Hyattsville, I wish the menu had something new. Perhaps a seasonal section would've made it a bit more exciting for me. Nonetheless, I highly recommend Carolina Kitchen to anyone looking for some good hearty soul food in a nice, clean, upscale, yet down to earth environment.

Kristin E.

Yelp
The good: the food is very delicious! Mac n' cheese is some of the best I've had in the area.I also recommend the candied yams, baked beans, smothered chicken, smothered pork chops, bbq chicken, chicken chunks, etc. The bad: this restaurant has failed to evolve with the needs of its customers. They do not take phone orders (which would allow you to order/pay ahead of time) and their website has been down for over three years (this is not an exaggeration). Which means the only one you'll see a menu is either on Yelp or going in person. Depending on the time of day, the line is extremely long. I recently went on a Sunday night and stood in line over 30 minutes. And depending on what you order, it may have to cook if it is not on the hot bar. That adds an additional 15-30 minutes. The ugly: they make things even more inconvenient by not being on any third party delivery apps. So if you want to eat food from here, you have no choice but to go and order in a long line or sit down to dine in.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Love this place. I have been going to this particular Carolina Kitchen location for over 10 years. It's so good. It's an hour and 30 minute ride for me but it's worth the trip. The bartenders drinks are usually delicious and strong. The ambience is very nice but the waiting area needs to be much better. There is usually a 30-1 hour wait and people are spilling out the door. It would be great if they accepted reservations but they do not! There is an area to place orders to go. That is a good option. However, we go to the bar for a shorter wait period. Good luck getting a seat!

Monica G.

Yelp
Scrumptious dinning! The food was great! I appreciate the great service I had and I'd definitely be delighted to return. The inside was nice and it was well spaced to were you felt comfortable and not overly crowded/ tight.

Lakeisha J.

Yelp
The food is amazing and the service is attentive. We were greeted with a warm welcome as we waited briefly for our table. Once seated, we were immediately greeted by a very pleasant waitress who placed these heavenly buttered muffins before us. Yummy. Our order was placed and our delicious food was presented in a timely manner. Oh the presentation summons you to dive right in. This restaurant is clean and spacious with modest decor. Music was set at a decent tone that we could enjoy the food and conversation. Overall I give Carolina Kitchen 10 stars.

Yelp
Carolina Kitchen is always a winner! My husband and I visited the restaurant two Sundays ago. We were on a double date with another married couple. This location is still enforcing mask requirements, limited capacity and all of the tables in the restaurant are separated by floor to ceiling curtains. Even though I am fully vaccinated, I appreciate that they are working to keeping their customers safe. The food is always fantastic!! You are served very large portions for very affordable prices. They definitely have been affected by the recent food shortages, as a few items in the mines were not available. But I am glad to know that they have not increased their prices since the pandemic. As much as I love Carolina Kitchen, the drive from Baltimore county is quite far. But there is good news! A new location is coming to Owings Mills very soon! I cannot wait! Hot, buttered cornbread right in my backyard!

Yelp
The location in hyattsville and Lanham do not disappoint. The food is consistently delicious and the service is excellent as well. I've walked and used a delivery service option and never had a complaint or dissatisfied. Recommend 5/5

Yelp
The new Owings Mills location is a cafeteria style dinning experience, where you can take your takeout container to a table or you can take your container home. The interior of the place is absolutely beautiful and very clean. High marks for that. My entrée of salmon, maccaroni & cheese and blackeyed peas was tasty. The fried oysters, however, were a disappointment. The staff was friendly and patient. I arrived at 5:30 PM to a line that was contained to the inside door. After approximately 1 hour, (placing order, waiting to pay and paying), I was able to sit down and dine inside. I believe the holdup/delay in getting through this faster was that there was only one cashier working. I saw that several boxes of food were always lined up to be checked out. So, after your order was plated in a box, it took sometime to get to the cashier. There were several large TV monitors behind and above the food serving area, which I suppose were there to show the menu items and cost, but they were blank. If that is the intent, it might help move the line faster. I will dine there again once I hear that operation moves more swiftly.

Yelp
Carolina Kitchen has plenty of menu options. Be prepared for heavy, high fat, salty foods. Food tastes good!!! Very few lighter options on the menu. Fried chicken is excellent as well as the stuffed salmon. All of the sides are well to over cooked. This is a once in a blue moon treat and should not be a regular spot, health wise. The staff behind the counter seem a bit stand-off-ish. Most desserts I've had were on. Recently bought the lemon Lund cake slice, pineapple rum cake and the cobbler to take to a patty....the lemon cake was very dry and not worth the $$$, pineapple rum cake was moist but didn't taste much rum, the cobbler is ok...crust is good but seems thick in terms of the juices from the peaches....seemed like canned peaches w plenty of thickener added. Have been to this location 2x to pick up food and take home.

Yelp
I've had this restaurant before and it's been amazing sometimes and at others it's been just okay. The service is also just okay. I've had the smothered chops with mash and gravy, greens and cabbage. Everything was okay except the greens and the gravy. The greens were super salty the past few times and the grace was a reddish color with very little seasoning. I can honestly say it's a hit or a miss. The restaurant is always clean and the staff is always helpful and super busy.

Yelp
The food is fine, but the service I had yesterday was horrible. Ordered online and went to pick up the food. Greeter was pleasant and told me to go straight to checkout to get my food. The girl at the checkout (tall with glasses) was checking a gentleman out that went through the buffet line. I waited patiently for her to check him out. Afterward, I tried to tell her I was there to pick up an online order, and she cut me off and said "hold on." She proceeded to checkout more guests that were coming through the buffet line and ignore me even though these people were now coming after me. A shorter girl came up to the checkout register, ignored me though I was right there, and asked a guy who was waiting BEHIND ME if he was there for DoorDash. At that point, I'd had enough and just said "Can I just pick up my food??!!" The shorter girl gives the guy behind me his DoorDash order and then asks me my name to get my order. No one likes to feel ignored especially when you are right in someone's face and waiting patiently to get food you already paid for. I'd encourage management to train staff on how to be nimble. Girl #1 could've easily given me my food after I waited for her to checkout the first patron instead of continuing to checkout buffet plates for folks that came behind me. It's obvious Girl #2 should've made sure I was being helped before asking the guy behind me if he was being helped. Hope everyone that orders from here from here on out gets better service than I received.

Yelp
I was in the mood for fish. I ordered the country croaker dinner. It was awful. It came with one small piece if fish and two sides. The fish had a bad smell so I returned it. The Mgr was very nice and let me make another selection. I got the ribs. They were so-so. My sides were collar greens and potato salad. Sorry to say the potato salad tasted store bought and the greens from a can. I was so disappointed in this food. This dinner cost me $23. Way too much for a mediocre meal. The place has nice ambiance and pleasant workers but the food sucks. Can I get a refund? I promise never to return.

Yelp
very bad service. this is 10 people working to go and only one server in the restaurant with over an hour wait. its only one party seated an the rest unoccupied tables. it's only two hr parking and over an hour wait.

Yelp
love this place! fast, efficient and amazing food! I got jerk chicken, collard greens and butter cabbage... so delish. also got smothered rotisserie chicken, candied yam and mac n cheese for the bf. no complaints all around. food was hot and tasty! It also comes with complimentary corn bread with honey, mmmhmm! need to go back and try the other main courses along with sides. I wonder if the sit in has different stuff than takeout. But the hyattsville location is niceeeee! forgot to take pictures of the food but got picture of desserts that I plan to try next time!

Yelp
Carolina Kitchen is my spot for Max & Cheese, sweet potatoes and greens. Can't have 1 without the other.

Yelp
Food was surprisingly good ! Haven't been to Carolina kitchen in years and didn't know what to expect. Got the fried whiting, with Mac and yams , and an Arnold Palmer to wash it down! Clean location, with friendly staff.
