The sandwich was absolutely delicious, and the mocha was simply fantastic! This place is perfect for chilling or getting work done. I adore the abundance of comfy seating options and the fantastic outdoor area. I can't wait to go back!

Google
Very quaint coffee bar connected to the Carpenter Hotel. The coffee isn’t the cheapest, especially if you want regular milk alternatives, but the ambiance is very nice. Limited indoor seating and there’s some outdoor space on the patios. Parking is just street. Definitely a place to checkout for fun if you’re in the area, but not something I would actively go out of my way to get coffee from. Still good coffee and a fun spot!

Google
A great spot to stop. This coffee shop is part of the hotel. The barista’s were great and easy to talk to. The coffee was fantastic! They have a nice outside seating area and the inside seating is rustic and comfortable. Good spot to chill or not if you’re in a hurry.

Google
Very cool hip little coffee bar attached to the equally cool hip hotel that has been renovated from the actual Carpenters Union building. Great food and great drinks, plenty of places to sit and work with the free WiFi.

i have been to carpenter coffee bar MANYYYYY times in the last couple years. i don’t live in austin but i’m in the area frequently and i stop every time. the environment, the baristas, the service, the food and the coffee are always incredible. my favorite is the lady bird latte iced 🤤 i have so much love for carpenter coffee bar and hotel, as i’ve stayed multiple times at the hotel as well. hands down one of the best coffee shops in atx 🫶🏻

Google
Very cute hotel lobby coffee shop! Menu had the classic coffee options and unique ones too, I had the honey iced latte with oat milk. If you are just hopping in to grab a coffee, I parked at the end of the P terrys lot and was fine (a little risky though!!😄) also a good amount of room to do any work with the sofas , chairs and side tables with outlets!

Carpenter Coffee is a hidden treasure in Austin! The cozy ambiance, friendly staff, and top-notch coffee make it a must-visit. Their pastries are delightful, and the rustic charm adds to the experience. Perfect spot for a morning pick-me-up or a relaxed afternoon.

Google
Reviewing purely for the coffee. Honestly, this is one of the cutest coffee shops in town. I love the restaurant behind this spot as well. The only thing is that the coffee just isn’t the best. It’s not the worst, but I’d never head here purely for coffee. Writing this in hopes they’ll change their beans soon.

Yelp
This coffee bar has been on my list for so long! Took a long walk around lady bird and stopped in for some coffee and a snack. Such a calming vibe inside and kind staff. Loved the laid back sitting area -- not noisy at all like some coffee shops, and lots of solo people working, or on laptops! Entire hotel grounds are super cute. Can't wait to come back and try the restaurant! Came around noon on a Saturday and not too busy at all. Recommend!

Yelp
A cute, aesthetic hotel coffee shop right next to Barton Springs Rd. Free street parking before 8am or all day on Sundays. My friend and I dropped in right at 7am on a Saturday for a post-run treat, and I ordered their Lady Bird latte (orange blossom and rosemary), iced, and a danish pastry. Service was casual and our barista was friendly! We took our treats to-go, but it looked very cozy inside to work or hang out for a bit. Their menu has a wide variety of snacks and light eats - from breakfast tacos and pastries to chia seed parfaits and sandwiches. I really enjoyed what I ordered! Pricing is pretty decent/comparable to most shops.

Yelp
Cute lil cafe located in a hotel lobby selling beverages, treats, and eats. I came when it was pouring rain outside so it was absolutely packed. They were able to seat me at a neighboring hotel though :) Matcha Latte ($5.5) was wonderful. Staff is very accommodating. Good Wi-Fi.

Yelp
I've never seen a hotel coffee bar this busy, every day. We stayed at the Carpenter Hotel during our most recent visit to Austin for four nights, and the Carpenter Coffee Bar is located in the Carpenter Hotel Lobby, on Josephine Street across from P. Terry's. Every day, morning and evening, the coffee bar was lively. There's a really spacious seating area with couches, comfy chairs, and a counter spot with stools, along with free wifi, but it gets crowded often and easily. The espresso is provided by Jo's Coffee, part of the bunkhouse family (I think I saw La Colombe beans, but don't quote me), and they have all of the alternative milks available (yes, including oat milk). As they're open all day from 7am, they also have espresso martinis, with an espresso martini happy hour from 4-6pm. Aside from the coffee and espresso drinks, they have lots of pastries, including croissants, bagels, turnovers, overnight oats, chia seed pudding (my favorite), an egg sandwich, and a couple breakfast taco options, too. Staying in the hotel ? Feel free to take the food/drinks back to your room - everything is served to-go.

Yelp
A perfect place to be productive. A cozy space to grab a good latte and hunker down. We ordered the ladybird latte, which has some strong citrus notes with a hint of rosemary. If you're not a fan of orange, we're confident their other coffees are stellar. Maybe we'll try some of their breakfast foods next time. There's plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. Need a visual break? The hotel is well-decorated, with aesthetic merch to look at! Ordered: Ladybird Latte (orange blossom + rosemary)

Yelp
Great seating options inside and outside - little enclave of relaxing coffee in the heart of the city. They must've changed their chai brand since - this one is not as flavorful - and they also rushed to prepare it so not steaming the milk enough to serve it real hot.
google avatar

Yelp
Their mochas are delicious as well as their lattes, they have really good sandwiches and salads , great space to work or hang with friends cute sitting areas and ambience
google avatar

Yelp
A cute little spot that's well decorated and inviting. We came by on a late Friday morning and the seats inside were taken up by people working on their laptops. The outside tables were more free, and we were able to relax in the shade of the umbrellas. I got a chai doughnut and a Lady Bird latte. The latte was delicious but I honestly forgot what the special ingredients were. We were also a little disappointed that the tacos were already sold out, but the doughnut was lovely and fluffy.

Yelp
Coffee: 3/5 The coffee is pretty strong here! I had a cappuccino with whole mild which I thought we be more tame but still sort a slap in the face of coffee flavor. It was $4.50 and drip here is $3.5-4.5 so pretty pricey even if you get something basic. Ambiance: 5/5 I absolutely love coming here to work! A lot of the seating is shared so it's fun because you usually meet people, personally I find this a perk, but def depends on your personality. There are about 5 seats at the bar with chargers under, and it is right by a windows which is lovely. I don't know where the furniture here is from but I'm obsessed!!! Big comfy chairs and couches, bar stools also have a back which is huge!! Overall: 4/5 Coffee is a bit overpriced, but where isn't?! Great atmosphere, nice employees and they also have a great restaurant! I haven't been able to try it yet but have heard the food is wonderful.

Yelp
SUCH a vibe with tasty af coffee and plenty of seating, WiFi, and great music. Located inside the Carpenter Hotel off Barton Springs, this is a hidden gem worth hunting out. Yummy pastries, friendly baristas, and a great atmosphere to work or chat in!

Yelp
The carpenter hotel has a beautiful coffee shop and restaurant open to the public! It's very pretty inside, and has a generous space for outdoor seating as well! Sadly, both times I went to order a coffee the only thing I ended up liking was the fries I got to go with it. The baristas definitely measure with their hearts, I noticed the guy pouring my milk definitely poured way over the 6 oz mark (correct milk ratio to espresso for regular latte), so my drink was very mild and milky. In summer I ordered and iced latte, and it both had very little flavor that diminished after the first sip, and the tiniest ice cubes you've ever seen. I had to go back and ask for more ice three times. But, the fries were really good lol. I would recommend this place if you are in need of a nice space to work remotely, and also drink things other than lattes!

Yelp
This may be my new favorite coffee shop to work from (disclaimer: purely based on vibes). It's so aesthetic and calm and surrounded by beautiful trees that make it a productive space. Most other people were also working so there wasn't much distraction. There were outlets in many places so you could work from any spot. It seems like they allow dogs inside and I got to pet this sweet golden retriever. The outside seating was also very nice and the hotel has a big bathroom. I ordered a Ladybird which was a specialty coffee drink and thought it was pretty good but I'm not a coffee connoisseur. Their coffee station had various milks and simple syrup to adjust your drink. Overall, a great coffeeshop to work from.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem in Austin! I love how vibrant but cozy this atmosphere is. They're staff is very friendly and the tacos, pastries, and drinks are so delicious! I like the scone and chorizo, egg & cheese taco. I also really like their hibiscus tea. It's a little pricey but a great place to work remotely from or meet up with a friend. I highly recommend stopping in. Also, such a plus is their restrooms are private, many stalls and the soap smells so good!!

Yelp
Excellent coffee, great vibe, and their tacos are amazing. Update 11.27.23: So I've been coming here for about 2 years. In the beginning, the staff was friendly. But man oh man has this changed. I started noticing about a year ago how the staff started becoming snarky and just outright rude. They give you a problem if you ask for something extra or even when you order your coffee a certain way and they mess up and you bring it to their attention they make it known that they don't like you telling them about your coffee. I used to go here every other morning and have been to their restaurant many times. But at this point, I go about 1 time a month and even the vibe has never changed. I've recommended so many of my friends to this place and what's crazy is even they now tell me they also are having the same experience. With that said I would WARN you now DON'T go here if you're expecting to have a friendly encounter with the staff. Or have them complain/huff and puff to fix their mistakes on your order.
google avatar

Erin T.

Yelp
Got the ladybird coffee, which was an orange rosemary latte. The coffee is a bit strong, so it definitely gives you a jump start in the morning. The toffee chocolate chip cookie was definitely a 5/5. So moist, fresh and not overly sweet. Cute cafe too. If you're local in the area, seems like a nice place to get some work or studying done.

Yelp
Spending my lazy morning here as a guest of the hotel was well worth it. I should probably mention that my opinion may or may not be skewed by meeting a tiny puppy named Cheese in the shop. Cheese deserves 5 stars! Well, let's be honest here, Cheese deserves ALL of the stars. But irregardless of if you're blessed with Cheese's presence in this dog friendly shop, this spot is defined a cozy little corner on a rainy day. Walking in through the hotel side, you're greeted by a mixture of traditional Austin or Portlandesque muted Southwestern textiles. You know- exposed industrial pipes, matte blacks mixed with light and dark wood tones, records, low light, natural light, wovens, plants housed in terracotta/clay pots, and light Indyesque music that I cannot readily identify. I sat in the equivalent of an adult bean bag chair behind an art deco inspired vintage table among a mix of fit Austinite looking company. Men with beards and laid back professional style, women in athlesiure or athleisure with fall boots and myself, small, black eccentric...I stuck out like a sore thumb. Nevertheless, I mostly enjoyed my time. When ordering I can't say I was the focus- the staff continuously talked amongst themselves instead of engaging with me as a customer. However, the product I received was top notch, and easily enjoyed it in the atmosphere I mentioned above. With the exception of one couple, everyone was working away, and when folks wanted to engage with one another they whispered. I'm not sure I would go out of my way to visit this shop in the future, given the customer service, but I'll certainly stop in upon my next stay at the Carpenter!

Yelp
This coffee shop is cute and a wonderful place to work from if you don't take meetings. I honestly don't have much to say about it but I did want this review and warn folks not to park at P Terrys or your car will get towed! How do I know? Because it happened to us! We were working right infront of the large window looking directly at the car. I must have zoned into working for a few minutes and boom, car was gone.

Yelp
Was curious to check out this infamous coffee shop that has quality and located within a hotel. Very interesting concept as hotel coffee is usually mediocre at its finest but this proves otherwise. All coffee are served in a paper cup. For a work from home people, this place has a very decent spots and seating either outdoor and indoor to do so. I'd say it's a very comfortable working spot w solid wifi. Will definitely come back. Parking: paid parking on the street

Serena N.

Yelp
Connected to the hotel but still feels like a separate coffee shop! Plenty of seating inside and outside to spend time with friends/family! The coffee was good and there were several options for food as well.

Yelp
This coffee shop in the lobby of the hotel is so cute and inviting! the decor inside feels warm and cozy and it's a nice little place to sit and hang out or even get some work done on ur laptop! the coffee was decent but the vibes make up for it! service here was super friendly and I love that it's right in the middle of austin. overall super cute hotel and coffee bar

Yelp
Wanted to hop back on here to post an update - I spent far too many hours working on a Sunday. So many that the cafe closed and the bar opened while I was there. I had no idea they turned over to a cocktail bar in the evenings but it was a pleasant surprise! While the selections were limited they had some really neat signature cocktails on their menu as well as wines (by the glass or bottle) and some small bites. I dropped the ball a little and did NOT snap a photo of the menu ‍ BUT I snagged one from the website for y'all! The cocktails were priced between $10-15 which seemed on par for the area and especially considering it was inside of a hotel. I ordered the Piedra de Sol $15. This cocktail was a mezcal based drink made with a hibiscus-habanero reduction and lime! This drink was perfectly balanced and so refreshing. I was deciding between this drink and the Cool Hand Cuke (Pisco, Italicus, Cucumber Cordial, Lemon & Lime) because I have a love for both spicy drinks as well as Pisco which i believe is terribly under appreciated. Looking forward to returning to try this one next. While I did not try any of the small bites they did have some interesting dishes - however, I personally felt the price points were a bit steep for what they were. (Menu attached)

Yelp
This place is in a great location and I love the ambiance, but the food and service leave something to be desired. My last visit ended before I could order because the barista was so unpleasant. I sat at the front waiting for her to greet me as she complained to her coworker about the night staff using up all the cups. I asked for non fat milk for my coffee to which she responded, "if you're worried about calories we have an unsweetened almond milk we are trying to get rid of." Ew. First of all, that was not my question. Second, please do not assume I am restricting calories. And third, advertising almond milk as something you are trying to "get rid of" does not make it enticing. I ended up leaving without ordering because I was frustrated with the service. On top of that, I've tried the tacos on multiple occasions and every time they're flat out not good. They've either been over-salted or the potatoes are undercooked or completely soggy with chorizo grease.

Yelp
Super cute comfy and relaxing place to study! Yummy coffee aswell. The guy making the coffee was super nice and the bathrooms are nice aswell
google avatar

Kayla K.

Yelp
Tasty coffee but the micro-foam was a little coarse and didn't quite have the "wet paint" texture. Amazing ambiance with super cozy living room vibes. The wifi is free, but hasn't worked both times I've come so I wouldn't rely on it. Ok service, the barista was also the cashier so she seemed rushed and disinterested in being friendly/having a conversation. Overall would come again for the vibes but not necessarily the staff or coffee.

Yelp
I love Carpenter Coffee Bar! I discovered this hidden gem one day when I was getting my car detailed at Barton Springs Car Wash and now I try to pop in anytime I am over there. I always get the Lady Bird latte and it is fantastic if you like floraly tastes. **Do NOT park in the P Terry's lot right across the street. My car got booted and it was a nightmare. Just pay the couple of dollars for street parking or walk.
google avatar

Susan W.

Yelp
Delicious oat milk chai latte in a gorgeous setting. Nice vibes, hidden from the outside. Love the attached hotel and restaurant/bar.
google avatar

Eugene S.

Yelp
Great place to sit back and do some thinking work. Good quality coffee and baked goods, limited selection of other beverages, but is not a problem otherwise.
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Listen. This place blew me away. The rosemary orange latte. Have you ever heard of such a thing!? It was incredible. No subtle, not sweet. You taste the rosemary as you sip and the orange zest on top as you exhale. I also loved the space. It is attached to the hotel and the whole space outside is beautifully landscaped very Palm Springs. The building is brick and reminds me of a repurposed elementary school from the East Coast.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for a cute spot to grab coffee in Austin, then this is your place! The Carpenter Coffee Bar is so quaint and cute with a lovely vibe. The cranberry scone with orange glaze is the perfect treat to accompany your vanilla latte or cappuccino! Not to mention-Caesar, Patricia and Tori are the sweetest baristas around town!
google avatar

Minly L.

Yelp
A super cute coffee shop with great drinks. I really love the vibes at Carpenter, as well as the people. Everyone is super friendly. I think they make their own syrups here, all very delicious. It is a street parking type establishment and there is wifi.
google avatar

Wesley G.

Yelp
Great aesthetic and drinks. Food is limited but good. I was hoping for more breakfast taco options. They only had one available at the time.

Logan D.

Yelp
So cute inside the hotel and in the coffee shop and such nice people! I got a vanilla latte and it was really yummy.

Yelp
I usually do not comment on service workers' competence (because fuck capitalism, service work is tough) but I must say these two baristas were either working their first shift ever (without any prior training?) or were so blasé about their job that they couldn't be bother to do it... or both. There were 3 people in line ahead of me and it took me 20 minutes to get my drink (a large latte that I watched her put only one shot of espresso into... but anyways lol). By the time I left there were 15 people in line waiting to order. I don't think anyone should bend over backwards for $15 an hour, but I would venture to say that it is a reasonable expectation to have some level of efficiency at 8am in a coffee shop, where people are presumably on their way to work or other time sensitive obligations. TLDR: maybe don't come here if you don't have at least 20 minutes to spare waiting for your drink
google avatar

Amanda O.

Yelp
The coffee here is amazing and I love the ladybird latte! The 3 stars is because the coffee is a 5 and the service is a 2. These people need to work on their customer service. I swear every time I go the baristas are unfriendly. This morning there was a girl I didn't recognize. Acted very bothered when I asked for salsa and said she would have to "pour it " even tho it was 7:15 am and only I and one other person was there. I said it was fine and left but should have made her do it haha. And She sure didn't smile or act like she wanted a tip lol! Obviously I will still go back soley because the coffee and tacos are so delicious but man it's funny I always remember how these girls that work here are a little cranky!
google avatar

Mira C.

Yelp
The baristas here have always been very cold, slow, and rude. 15 minutes for one drink. Cool vibes and deco, though. Just wish the service was as nice

Yelp
I fell In love with this place when I first came here, and since I live down the road Ive been coming very often. The ladybird drink is amazing! And I love the music, the big windows, the bathrooms, the whole vibe. The first few times I was here the girl at the register was so sweet and I just thought the whole experience was adorable. However..... It's been a while since I've seen her, and the the two other girls who work frequently are SO RUDE. The past 4 times I've ordered and left with a sour taste in my mouth. They have a constant scowl, don't reply at all when I say Thankyou and give a tip, and have made really condescending remarks. For example, one time I was paying with my credit card and somehow the transaction went through but failed to cover 30 cents? I've never heard of this happening and the girl told me and said it was fine, she just covered it.. and I was a little confused at what just happened and asked her why would it do that? And she replied in a very rude tone "that's just how debit cards work". I said well.. it's a credit card.. and it's been working fine. I don't know, it was a strange interaction and ever since then I feel like I've just been sneered at every time I order & it makes me question the effort going into making my drinks. I miss the other girl who is always sweet and asks about my day. Wish I knew her name

Yelp
This coffee shop is inside the Carpenter Hotel but very much has its own following, as evidenced by its full lobby/work area and constant stream of locals and guests making their way to the counter for a caffeinated beverage or baked good. I love how the bar is waist level so you can converse with the barista and watch him/her make your beverage at the same time. It makes it feel less transactional and more just pal'n around over drinks. I highly recommend the iced vanilla latte with oat milk. I imbibed on that dreamy, milky beverage two days in a row and can't wait to get my lips on it again. I also caved and got a chocolate chip cookie... it kept gawking at me with its perfectly crisp exterior and pan banged (it's a thing) chocolate chips. It didn't disappoint. Friendly service and $7ish for a latte and a treat (I got an apple one day, as well) make it a somewhat economical start to the day.
google avatar

Blake J.

Yelp
quick stop here to grab a latte. staff was super friendly and it seems like a great place to set up and work from for the day too. Really enjoyed switching it up and getting the orange rosemary latte. refreshing and light!
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
This coffee shop is part of the Carpenter Hotel with plenty of street parking outside. It has a nice ambience inside with lots of seating, as well as an outdoor patio area. Their coffee was pretty good (iced latte and regular coffee), but their breakfast tacos (with the salsa) was amazing! Granted, I've never had a breakfast taco prior to this, but it was quite tasty. Would recommend.
google avatar

Amber E.

Yelp
The vibes in this place are so retro, you feel like you've gone back in time. From the vinyls playing to the old school speakers and the worn furniture, It's totally a spot I would office at or just hang with a book. I got the Ladybird Latte with oat milk, rosemary, and orange blossom. Next time I'm in Austin, I'd love to go back!
google avatar

Arundathi R.

Yelp
Great place to grab a cup of coffee. Their lady bird latte is a must try. Remember that they wont serve coffee in the evening, it will be a whole new vibe with craft cocktails and small bites..
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
I ordered a cold brew ($4) and a cinnamon knot ($5) which was like a cinnamon roll with little sugar crystals instead of icing. Both were good, although the pastry would have been even better had it been served warm. Very friendly staff and super convenient to have as a breakfast spot when staying at the Carpenter Hotel
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Hot L Coffee is so aesthetic! It really fits the typical Austin coffee shop vibe, but it's actually part of a hotel. Coffee choices are definitely a bit limited, but they're not bad at all. There aren't very many places to sit but if you're just looking to stop by and grab a cup of coffee, that's not an issue. I don't know if I would come here to study because the seating is pretty uncomfortable, but I'm really glad I came just to give Hot L Coffee a try.
google avatar

Caitlyn H.

Yelp
Super cute place but the girl who took our coffee order was condescending and didn't seem to want to be there. Ordered a small vanilla latte and she said "so a cappuccino?" followed by a snarky comment "sooo what do you want?" A nice guy worker stepped in to clarify my order, which is so simple, but she was still quite rude as I payed. Didn't tip.

Yelp
(Summary and Update at bottom) When looking for coffee this place came up and my family and I decided to try it out! The atmosphere from the outside where people were standing and talking to the inside where people were sitting on couches and hanging out felt very welcoming and positive. Ordering was very easy and the lady taking orders was very helpful, knowledgable, and nice. The 4 coffees were made in around 8 minutes and and the barista makes them right in front of you. It was clear that the quality of crafting the drinks was high. The reason for the 3/5 stars comes mainly from the quantity and value we feel we got. My mom and sister both got vanilla oat milk lattes which they like (not blown away by) but they ordered larges and were slightly upset by the size of the cup they received compared to our local coffee shops and even corporate shops. My dad ordered a cold brew with an extra shot and was okay with it but not impressed. He also felt that the sizes were small. I just ordered a large black coffee and I was quite surprised when they handed me a cup that would equate to a small at Starbucks and other local shops I've been to. Look at the picture, paying almost $4 for this amount of black coffee is enough for me to not come back. The final thing to mention is the ice they use. They use the tiny "crunchy" ice that I typically love in other drinks. No one in my group thought this was a good idea bc of how quickly this ice melts and waters down the drinks. SUMMARY Pros -Easy to get to -Welcoming, positive atmosphere -Tons of comfortable seating inside and out -Fun art and different furniture - Nice staff Cons - The sizes are much too small - Prices are very high for the size of the cups you get - Not great ice for iced coffee The reason I am leaving 3 stars is simply because the value was not at all there for me. This may be different if I were meeting people there and taking advantage of the space and hanging out. If I was looking for a black coffee to grab before work or to take back home, I'll go somewhere with a large cup that will likely be cheaper. UPDATE Ice did not cause much of an issue as we reviewed after finishing the drinks. My black coffee was very small but very strong which I appreciated. I have changed the rating to 4/5 due to post coffee review.

Yelp
I really wanted this to be a good spot and it's a cute cafe but terrible coffee. It's medium warm and super bitter. I thought maybe it was a bad batch, next one tasted exactly the same. It doesn't help that the attitude is the coffee is what it is. There should be a bit more care into if you can give a hot cup of coffee... pretty simple.

Yelp
"Hotel Coffee" without the "E"!!!!! When the 2019 Cap 10K got cancelled due to heavy rain, I was on my phone looking for a place to stay until the rain slacked off. And out my car window I saw my "Coffee" beacon of light! I was parked in front the entire time! The lounge was very nice & hipster (what one comes to expect while in the trendier places in ATX). The retro furniture was a nice touch & gave the place a 1960's feel. The place was crowded with other runners who were also seeking refuge from the storm. Good times!

Yelp
The coffee and pastries are always good. The employees are always so rude and have the worst attitudes. I work in hospitality so I understand that it's hard to find good labor right now but employees who are blatantly rude to customers for no reason aren't the answer.

Yelp
So disappointed by the service here - both girls behind bar were extremely condescending. Coffee was good but won't come back because of this
