Where to Drink Wine in San Diego Right Now

"The grapes used at Carruth Cellars are transported from vineyards in Northern California all the way down to its production facility in Oceanside. The coastal urban winery has branched out since its establishment in 2006, opening tasting rooms in Carlsbad, Solana Beach, Liberty Station and more recently, on the bottom floor of Little Italy’s Carte Hotel." - Roxana Becerril

Little Italy Luxury Hotel Reveals Rooftop Bar and Restaurant - Eater San Diego

"Opening next month at W. Ash and State Street in Little Italy is the Carté Hotel, 16-floor, 246-room LEED Silver Certified hotel that’s part of Hilton’s Curio Collection. It will house a full-service restaurant called Watercolors that will serve a 'sea-to-table' menu at breakfast, lunch, and dinner." - Candice Woo

Finally, a Hilton hotel where everything is as it should be and where the staff are friendly, competent, and clearly enjoy their jobs - which then results in them providing great customer service. Until I stayed here last week I was seriously thinking of ditching Hilton as my preferred hotel chain as previous stays at other properties had been so hit and miss.||I was in town for a conference, arriving Sunday and leaving Thursday. The only issue I had was probably that the AC in my room is a little vigorous. Everything else was flawless. The room was in good condition and everything worked as I expected. Daily housekeeping was a real bonus too.||I only had breakfast on my last morning in town but it was really good, including perfect poached eggs. I ate at the rooftop bar Wednesday night and again Thursday (as my flight was delayed) and on both occasions it was first class. The steak sandwich is a winner, and the Happy Hour pizza also hit the spot.||The only minor criticism is that no one told me that the wine I ordered wasn't the Happy Hour wine, but the staff were empowered to resolve that without any sort of pushback - so no harm, no foul in my book. Staff were engaged and friendly, recognising me from the night before and welcoming me back.||My only caveat is that it's not exactly cheap and there's a $30 per day destination fee - but $15 of that is a credit against F&B and with my Diamond Status getting another $15 it's a wash. Location is good to - probably 10 minutes to the Amtrak / Coaster station, and another 5 - 10 minutes down to the Conference Center.||Overall, a great stay! Definitely somewhere I'd stay again.

With so many hotel choices in San Diego, we were very happy with our selection of the Carte. Not only was the hotel clean, comfortable and in a great spot (next to Little Italy, with a short walk to great dinner options), it also had great amenities. The full gym was incredible (but avoid lunch time and immediately after work as it gets a little crowded), and the hot tub and pool were very enjoyable. However, as the pool area is shaded (between two buildings), I would not choose this hotel if the goal is to sit in the sun. The roof deck was perfect for a drink in the evening, and breakfast each morning in the hotel restaurant hit the spot.

Google
Not a great experience. The room hadn't been fully turned over as there were items from the previous guests. The other issue was the miscommunication on the guests credit to be used at the rooftop bar or Watercolors. Please get your staff trained properly unless it is a ruse to charge guests more. The bed was also in poor shape, for a boutique hotel experience it came up very short. I will not return to this hotel again. Also wasn't thrilled with the sounds of the prison lifters each morning.

I stayed during Covid when no hotels were available, and this one was remarkable because not only was it one of the Most comfortable stays & beds I've ever had. I felt safe and they had a Don Julio bar downstairs. My Mom only lived a couple blocks up the street and I could see her balcony from my window. I loved the high floor; I just Wished I had some SD breeze and a balcony too!! Best part of this hotel is the free gym connected to it next door. Best steam room I've ever been in!! It's a Great gym with spin classes too. They don't offer it free anymore, but it's Well worth $30/day. Great small pool and rooftop bar. If only they had balconies.....

This was my third visit to the Carté, San Diego, and this time was as enjoyable as the previous two visits. I stayed for fifteen days, so got to see the hotel during an extended stay. ||I had great front desk help from Saniya, who moved me from my initially allocated room to a higher floor (thanks Saniya, I really appreciated your help with the switch - toy went above and beyond to accommodate my request). I got a room on the 14th floor, with a great view of the downtown area. ||The room was comfortable and quiet, the two queen beds were both decent sized, and there was a spacious and well appointed bathroom with a large shower. The housekeeping staff were friendly and attentive, as was Alberto, the technician, who came very quickly to help me fix my tv one day when I couldn’t get it to work. ||The hotel has a good location in the downtown area, with an easy walk to either Santa Fe Depot Amtrak/trolley station or County Center/Little Italy trolley station (Little Italy is a great spot for dining, with plenty of restaurant choices; there’s also a very good sandwich place, Quick Bites). ||There is both a bar/restaurant on the 1st floor which serves food all day, and also a great rooftop bar/restaurant which is open Thursday through the weekend. ||The hotel is used by sone airlines (including Lufthansa) for their crews on layover, which I think testifies to the quality of the hotel.||I had a great stay and have already booked for a return visit in two months’ time.

Recently stayed at Carte hotel in downtown San Diego. Definitely recommend - room was comfortable and very quiet. Location can't be beat - Starbucks right across the street, and a 7-11 a couple of blocks away that had great prices on bottled water and Cokes. Also just a few blocks away from Little Italy restaurants and a longer walk or very short Uber from the Gaslamp District. We also went to the rooftop bar twice - service was great. Check in and out were both speedy and friendly. Would not hesitate to stay here again if I came back to San Diego.

My kid and I were doing a college visit in San Diego first time and the weather was perfect. Warm enough to walk around but overcast to not burn. This hotel was 15 minutes from SDSU and clean and modern. Bathrooms were very clean and upgraded up to my very high standards. The room was roomy, spacious for 2 and clean. Room was a bit dated but it was fine for a quick trip. Queen beds were comfy and clean. The restaurant was great for breakfast and staff were friendly helpful. Gym and facilities were modern and clean. The location was perfect, close to the shore with long walks on the pier, walkable to the ship museums and tourist sites. Best was the Bob Hope memorial! The large statue of the photographer of the WWII couple kissing. And best of all Very close to little Italy.

Google
As a Hilton Gold member, I had high expectations for my stay, but I was left quite disappointed. While the hotel has a nice facility and the room itself was clean and comfortable, the overall customer service—particularly at the reception—was well below standard. Communication was poor, and staff seemed untrained in handling guest concerns or providing a welcoming experience. It’s disheartening to be treated this way as a loyal Hilton member, and it raises serious concerns about how other guests might be treated. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property based on my experience. There is a lot of work needed to bring the service up to the level expected from a Hilton-affiliated hotel.

Yelp
Excellent gym Watercolor menu is very small and limited. Not many healthy options. Food is good though. Breakfast doesn't start until 7. Bartenders very friendly. A/C in room not working. Parking is expensive $60/day Probably won't stay here again but appreciate the gym workouts this trip.

Yelp
The worst experience I received. Look at my other reviews. I don't give 1 stars lightly. I prepaid. I gave the man my information. He got me my room. Lol, then the staff gave my room to another patron, and they walked in on me. I called the front desk, and I told them about the situation. She was sweet and apologetic. They waived the $30 fee? Ok cool... I ask on the phone, is my room going to be compromised? They said no. I walk out, and my key card was disabled. I walk down to the lobby and confront them about this. A very lovely lady told me to just come back and it'll all be settled. I come back. Then.... I told them about my situation. This worker was just the worst. I told her my experience. She took my card, laughed at me, and then smirked. All in all, worst hotel experience ever. I think all the workers are mad about their lives or something (from bar staff to front desk). They are not happy people LMAOOOO. Go to the Omni tbh. ALSO. The pool sucks, because the sun is blocked by the building next to it.

Yelp
The Carté hotel is the best place to stay in San Diego! The customer service, cleanliness, and room quality is top notch. The gym FIT next door is luxurious with every amenity you can dream up. The breakfast at the lobby restaurant is 5 star and the beds will guarantee a perfect night's sleep. The location is in the center of downtown, little Italy, the water front, and all the destinations you can dream up. My daughter and I spend a yearly vacation in SD. With lots of choices in SD, The Carté is our home away from home. We had such a good time we forgot to take pics! But we wanted to mention two individuals who made our stay both comfortable and memorable. Isabella and Jordan are true hospitality ambassadors. From their welcoming personality to how they remembered us on every walk by, our stay rivals and surpasses any luxury brand hotel stay. In fact, the level of service they provided often times can't be found at top tier properties. Isabella is a pro. Infact my daughter and I thought she was management! Jordan must have eyes on his forehead because he said hi to us as he was working with a customer looking down at the computer! We did take one photo, the breakfast which was fantastic. Don't let other reviews sway your judgement and decision. Choose Carté and you'll be in for a treat. See you soon Isabella, Jordan, and Carté

Yelp
Good location for hotel! Walking distance to all San Diego downtown attractions! While it is not an older hotel, it certainly has an older feel. Elevator button system is straight up from 1980s where you have to declare in the lobby which floor you go to. Hallways seems run down. Water pressure in the shower was very very low, and toilet was not working. For $300 per night, this is rather poorly run property, but at good location!

Yelp
We had a wonderful visit a couple weeks ago. First time. We arrived around 11 and our room was ready which was great! We loved the coziness of the room and the amenities. I loved how they have an ice and water refill machine right outside of our room. I drink a lot of water so it was a major plus! Rooftop bar was fun and we got to use our credit there. We will def be back! Beds were very comfy and soft lighting into the bathroom.

Yelp
Gladys and Jessica (Jose our server) made our experience special. Went above and beyond for us Visiting the 16th floor roof top. It's an amazing space, great food, service and atmosphere. We're thinking to book the rooftop for a birthday and Gladys helped us get in contact with the proper people to help us.
google avatar

Yelp
I stayed here overnight to kickoff my birthday vacation. Check-in was smooth and the woman at the front desk was super sweet. She explained that the destination fee of $30 could be used at the rooftop bar/restaurant and so my partner and I headed up to grab a quick bite since we hadn't eaten all day. We ordered the calabrese pizza and we liked it a lot. The salami was a little salty, but overall, we enjoyed the pizza. However, I woke up at 4am with the worst stomach pain and was throwing up and sick for hours. I could barely sleep since I kept having to run to the bathroom. My partner had to wake up to start working at 5:30am and so we were just taking turns running to the bathroom. I messaged through the Hilton app to give feedback on the pizza and our food poisoning we were dealing with. Jordan was very helpful and refunded the cost of the pizza and sent up some hot tea for us, which we appreciated. I did love the hotel and it was in a great location. However, the food poisoning derailed my birthday celebrations as I had to cancel reservations due to feeling sick and not being able to keep food down.

Yelp
So let's start off with some positives. It's close to Little Italy and the market and Starbucks. Generally an easy location. Nice lobby and bathrooms. Nice gym. Restaurant on top floor has a beautiful view, all glass. Downside. Husband had one hour to nap. 3-4pm. However large banging noises again the wall where his head was kept repeating over and over again. Large jarring noises that made me jump and I wasn't trying to sleep. Then large banging noises from opposing wall of our room. Turns out housekeeping was making all this noise. I poked my head out to literally watch her banging her mop against everything. This had been going on for 30 mins!! I didn't say anything to her but did write to rsvp email which is the only one I could find. No response. Breakfast in restaurant was very good although I wasn't impressed with the coffee.

Yelp
Carte is definitely one of the nicer Hilton Hotels in SD! I loved the decor and cleanliness. The staff was really friendly. The food options were not bad. There's definitely better food outside the hotel, but it was all still good. I LOVED the full gym access! It had all the workout equipment you can ask for and a steam/sauna room. The view on the top floor restaurant was nice during golden hour. I don't like having to pay the resort fee, but you do get to use it towards the restaurant food and shop. Valet service was very friendly and efficient. By the time I texted the number and headed downstairs my car was ready. I don't know if I'd come back since I wouldn't fully use the $45 each day since I rather enjoy the local restaurants in little Italy. However, it was a good stay overall!

Yelp
Dear Carte Hotel Team, I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional service we received during my birthday celebration on December 29th, 2023. The impeccable care provided by Jordan, Jaqueline, Ghaza, the rooftop staff, lobby bartender, and the entire team was truly noteworthy. Your collective professionalism and gracious hospitality contributed significantly to the success of our celebration. The pristine nature of the hotel and the warm welcome we received from the staff created an unforgettable experience. Without reservation, I would wholeheartedly recommend Carte Hotel to others. It was a 10/10 experience, and we are sincerely grateful for the efforts of each team member who made our stay truly special. Thank you for your dedication to excellence. Warm regards, Katrina and Friends & Family

Yelp
I enjoyed our stay here end of December. Right in downtown close to little Italy. The lobby area was amazing. I have never seen such a nice big lobby with plenty of areas to sit and also tv to watch in your booth. The bar was big and the bartender sadly I forgot his name, he was great!! I believe he was a regular bartender there since he was there for a few days in a row. He was attentive, talkative and made our espressos on point! It was Christmas time so they even had a bell u can ring on the wall of leaves and then a hand comes out with peppermint candy in a bag! The kids loved that! I would stay here again. The swimming pool and jacuzzi was closed due to the cold weather so will have to go again during Warmer weather. The rooftop restaurant bar was also nice. Plenty of seating with fire pits and the food was great!! Good for kids.

Yelp
I was running the Rock and Roll Marathon and scheduled this hotel which was right at the finish line ! Fabulous! Right ? Except I booked for Sunday ! Not Saturday night like I needed or thought I did! Yikes!!!! Jose at check in was great and helped me change my reservations so I had a room for the night ! I was so happy I wrote his name on my numbered bib for good luck ! Thank you Jose for helping this customer who was already anxious ! The room was great and we ate upstairs at the rooftop bar . Great menu with epic views! Had a great run on Sunday !

Jessica O.

Yelp
If I could rate this hotel zero (0) stars I would! Absolutely the worst customer service ever! My partner and I have been to San Diego several times and we decided to give a new hotel a chance. The receptionists made it very difficult from the beginning and worse at the end of our stay. I highly do not recommend this hotel for your next stay in San Diego. If you do book this hotel make sure you carefully read what you are agreeing to because they will do their best to take your money. We are currently disputing a wrongful charge. DO NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL!!!!!

Lowe M.

Yelp
I'm not understanding the bad reviews! This was an excellent Hotel. It's beautiful, The Train station was close by so don't drive, It's newer, modern, elevator acts as a slight deterrent, the staff was extremely nice. It's close to Little Italy, the waterfront; walked to Gaslamp, Ubered back. The City's social issues not caused by hotel‍, great property!
google avatar

Dung N.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been to Carte. The last time was a few months ago, for an event, and they gave me a "passport" to check out all the rooms and different food stations. I was surprised that it was pretty empty, but that made it seem more exclusive. There was a Photo Booth, live music, a dj, a sushi station, etc. The rooms and pool area were really nice. Make sure you check out the rooftop bar as well! There's a small outdoor space where you can have an intimate wedding ceremony. They are located next to a winery, so that's where we spent most of our time! Hope they have more events like this in the future!
google avatar

Yelp
I love this hotel. You're close to everything but a good distance away. A small walk to little Italy for food and drinks. The hotel itself is great and super posh without the high price point. Valet also charged my car which was a surprising treat. Also access to the hotel gym is a perk. The gym is equipped with everything, including towels a spa and sauna. This is my go to hotel in SD.

Antoinette H.

Yelp
The room service was horrible. Things were not replaced, and there is a bunch of trash behind the refrigerator dresser from the people before us with an old bottle, water and food on the floor. We were not getting replaced items that need to be replaced on the daily basis, even though, we left the towels on the floor. The valet services is amazing. The bar is amazing and even the servers at the little restaurant were wonderful. The staff at the front lobby were amazing and the room is beautiful. However, the cleaning staff is really unbelievable acceptable.
google avatar

Michele L.

Yelp
Pros: Good service Clean Quiet Restaurants nearby Nice run or walk along the water Gym is huge with tons of amenities Cons: -In-room coffee is sad for the price my company paid for this room. We're talking paper cups and Coffee-Mate. - The music in the gym was so loud that it was difficult to relax. I probably wouldn't come back to this hotel for that reason alone since gym access while traveling is important to me. - They give you room service in to-go containers instead of on real plates. -No microwave in room. No hot water access anywhere in the hotel if you wanted to make your own tea.
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
The location of the Carte is within close proximity to Little Italy and all the excellent cuisine and bars it has to offer. The gym inside is a full membership type gym that hotel guests have access to. The bar/restaurant downstairs is chill and the server Elsbeth will take great care of you. For better scenery, head to the rooftop bar that boasts panoramic views all around of the city scape and San Diego Bay peeks. Pictured is my favorite breakfast to order here at the downstairs Watercolors Restaurant/ Bar.
google avatar

Annie W.

Yelp
Jordan, the hotel director and front desk staff Selma and Leila were phenomenal. Took care of what needed to be done with customer service. I've stayed here several times and have no complaints. Centrally located, great hotel food and rooftop bar. Rooms are quiet and tactfully decorated with in room safes.
google avatar

Camie K.

Yelp
This is a really sleek place near Little Italy of San Diego. I really like that it is within walking distance to most neighborhoods of downtown San Diego. Extraordinary desserts is just right around the corner as well. You also get a $30 daily credit which you can use for the restaurants and or the gym. The front desk receptionists are sometimes cold and sometimes warm but professional. They don't seem to like it when I asked too many questions however. The restaurant downstairs offers basically the same thing that's the restaurant on the rooftop except the hours are slightly different. We have especially enjoyed the wedge salad. The happy hour menu is great. The restaurant staff is attentive and friendly. My husband and I slept very well during our long stay at Carte. Did not have any noise issues luckily. The water pressure was good as well. I'm not sure about parking because it seems like it is all valet parking. I probably would not recommend parking with them. Instead, I recommend that you take the trolley and or Uber.

Yelp
Stayed here a few months ago for the weekend. We usually stay at the Intercontinental San Diego, but decided to give this place a try. The staff is nice, but this more of a layover hotel, in case you are waiting for your flight or staying for one-night. The lobby is small and the rooms are also somewhat small and there was a strange smell in my room. I think it may have been the cleaning products that the hotel used, etc. The only benefits are the location near Little Italy and the fact that you have access to the high-end gym next door (Fit Athletic ) that is separate, but as a guest you have access. Also the pool is in a weird location, it should have been on the rooftop but it is in the middle of the hotel with a building next to it and no sunlight. The rooftop is nice, but again should have a pool there. Again, the staff is very friendly, but the hotel just feels mid-tier, where you have so many other options around.
google avatar

Apple K.

Yelp
The hotel looks modern. Only has valet parking that is very expensive at $60 each day so it's like $70-$80 each day because of tips. There are mandatory additional hotel charges of like $35 each day, which can be applied to certain food or drinks of the hotel that seems to force guests to spend extra money there but I guess it's better than resort fees. Their pool was closed so we didn't have access a few weeks ago.

Yelp
Hi Carte Hotel, two years ago when we first stayed at this particular hotel (at the time it still had great views to the harbor, however due to new construction no more view poolside) we didn't have the greatest experience. The room was ok and had a cigarette smell, when we left we did mentioned to the management our concerns, they offered us to stay a weekend of our choice and we left it as an option. We finally bit the bullet and took advantage of the offer, sadly the hotel didn't have the same manager but they did honor the offer and we can only say "Thank you for the great experience and gifts" honestly we will stay here again since it's location is great for evening strolls through little Italy and downtown area. It's also a block away from extraordinary desserts, so what else can you ask other than the lottery numbers lol. Thank you again Carte Hotel and will see you next time!

Yelp
Located in San Diego between Ash and State is Carte Hotel a Hilton Hotel. It's connected to Fit which means if you are staying inside the hotel you may use the high tech two story state of the art gym including the pool and sauna. The rooms are very modern, comfortable and spacious. Had a great sleep, no noise and everything was working properly. Bathrooms are modern with great lighting. Elevators require keycards. Parking is valet only at $60 a day.

Yelp
Spent Christmas Eve and day here. Walked into a spacious lobby, greeted by helpful staff. The lobby contains a nice size beverage area, TV's, and watercolor restaurant. Family had breakfast at the watercolor on Christmas Day. Something on the menu for everyone. King size room was a nice size, clean and well decorated. I spent the evenings watching tv in the lobby and chatting. Great experience.

Yelp
Enjoyed my stay here, absolutely stunning hotel. Would have given 5 stars but construction starting at 6 am right next door. Not exactly what I was hoping for on vacation. I mentioned it as I checked out and just got an apology. Also front desk girls were not the friendliest, seemed annoyed and not very helpful.
google avatar

Becky D.

Yelp
This hotel is located in a great area! You're close to the marina and Little Italy. It's absolutely beautiful inside and out. The entire staff was warm and friendly and I mean everyone. Every person I walked by always smiled and/or said hello. This hotel offers two restaurants, a huge gym, and a heated pool. The rooftop bar is awesome and highly recommend checking out. I don't necessarily love the destination fee but I can understand to a certain point why they do it.

Yelp
I typically don't leave reviews, but I felt compelled to share my thoughts this time. My experience at the Carte Hotel has truly been exceptional. Saria, Jordan, and Jose stood out as remarkable guest service agents. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted warmly, setting the tone for my stay. Sayia and Jordan helped me discover great dining options in the area, and their recommendation led me to enjoy a fantastic meal at the same place twice. It's worth noting that I encountered a minor issue with my room, but Jose promptly resolved it with a sincere apology, going above and beyond to ensure my comfort. The rooftop terrace of the hotel is breathtaking, and the pool area adds to its charm. And let's not forget the impressive 28,000 square feet gym - it's truly one of the finest luxury gyms I've ever seen. Immaculately clean, well-appointed, and the sauna was a delightful touch. The overall management of the hotel is exceptional, a clear reflection of their dedication to their staff and guests alike. I want to express my gratitude for the wonderful time I've had. I wholeheartedly recommend the Carte Hotel to everyone I know, and that includes my extensive social media following of over 16,000 followers. While I hold the prestigious status of a Marriott Titanium member, my recent experience at the Carte Hotel has led me to make a significant decision. I am now proud to announce my official enrollment in the Hilton Honors program. While it might require a bit of time to regain the tier I had attained with Marriott, I assure you that this stay has convinced me that the switch is truly worthwhile. Wishing you all the best.

Yelp
San Diego is one of my favorite places to travel to for work or for pleasure. Noticed this new hotel in Little Italy and decided to give them a shot. Happy to say that I officially have found my go to hotel in SD, absulotely loved my stay here! It all started with the amazing service I recieved at the front desk by Carla. She is phonemenal! A true hospitality professional and she's amazing at her job. She's the reason they are getting the 5 star rating. We got into a bay view room on the 14th floor and we loved our room! It was elegant and modern and we loved everything about the room. Rooms seemed soundproof and loved the privacy. This hotel offers a pool and a hot tub which was a major plus for us. The vibe on the 4th floor where you can find pool/hot tub/gym was very chill, relaxing and peaceful. The resteraunt and bar on the rooftop offered great views and the food was so good! Down in the lobby, you will find a market where you can buy some drinks/snack. You will also find a bar in the lobby along with another resteraunt. Overall the location was great, the service was amazing, and the rooms were very nice. If your looking for that combination then this may be the hotel that you are looking for, please keep them in mind for any future stays you may be planning. You won't regret it.

Yelp
This hotel is great. Right on the edge of little Italy. Rooftop bar fantastic. Pool great. Every worker awesome. Manny, Savannah, Anthony to name a few. Housekeeping great. My room was spacious and clean, shower pressure, wow! On point. I didn't eat there but every person who ate around me loved their food. Oh and I forgot to mention the valets. All of them 100% so nice. So fast. So nice (again). Yep zero complaints. Would stay here again, live here if I could. Front desk workers....Awesome.

Yelp
Checked into this hotel thinking we would be closer to Gaslamp Quarter but we are not disappointed!!! Little Italy is just a few blocks away with lots of great shops, bars and restaurants. Something for everyone here. Hotel room has everything you need (no microwave) and the bed is so damn cozy and comfortable! Ordered breakfast to go downstairs at Watercolors and the breakfast croissant at $20 was definitely worth the cost! Staff is also Super friendly.

Yelp
Racial Profiling at its finest! If you are young, trendy, non-white and do not fit the cookie cutter republican vibe PLEASE BEWARE! I always stay at Marriott Hotels and have never had any issues but I decided since I am also a Hilton Honors Member that I should spread the love. FYI The hotel provides no parking solutions except for a $60 daily valet. Once I got to my room the city view I paid extra for was really a birds eye view of a homeless camping area. I'm easy and I'm from the Greater L.A. area so I moved on and was unbothered by this. I left the hotel several times to vape and get some food. Regardless of my look or style I like to be respectful and I am careful to not impact anybody else's experience. I visited the gym and was treated poorly by the staff and made to feel uncomfortable by the trainers. Regardless of my looks I can afford to stay here and deserve the same respect as any other guest. My face and body is heavily tattooed but I am a business owner and not an ex convict. I did not interact with any other hotel staff and even though they saw me walk in and out nobody ever greeted or acknowledged me. I checked out the next day and received an additional $300 charge for vaping!!! Based on my looks and the fact that I vaped outside it was assumed that I did so in my room as well. This is not accurate and not acceptable. After doing some research on Reddit I have come across many post from Hilton Housekeeping stating many times they are vaping themselves while cleaning the rooms! I have an open case with the Hilton and will keep you updated. Lastly I got no sleep here since the walls are paper thin and my neighbor slept with his tv on. The mattress and pillows were horrible and the carpet had dry vomit stains. If you want to feel welcomed and safe on your next trip to San Diego DO NOT STAY HERE!

Yelp
This hotel on the first look it looks promising and welcoming, after staying there for Christmas I have to said that it was my first and definitely the last time at this place, so many issues with clogged toilet, Tv that doesn't work, broken refrigerator stained sheets and more. And above all this they over charged me by mistake and after I checked it out they have told me that they'll refund me for the over charge but I haven't received the money yet. The guy from the from desk GORDEN HOVIS told me at the phone to GO TO HELL and that he's ok with what he said. Just because I called a few times to check about the over charge on my account. this place it's a NO NO.

Yelp
Place was super clean, food area and rooftop bar was a great option to have. I really loved the gum access. Would definitely stay there again.

Yelp
In town for a convention and stayed a couple nights with 4 colleagues. Easy quick check in with incredibly pleasant front desk help. Everything from lobby to elevators to room was tastefully decorated and thoroughly modern. Staff were polite and cheerful, including lobby evening bartender and Above Ash rooftop dining staff. Wonderful service all around. Room was immaculate and very modern, spacious for a small space even without a closet or armoire to hang clothes. Great size tv (not the puny 42 inchers you see elsewhere), comfortable bed, awesome bathroom with large shower, very clean...this was a fantastic place and we will stay here again.

Yelp
Clean and modern hotel. Decent size bathroom and large shower. Friendly staff. Lots of various lighting options in the room. Had a partial view of the water, nothing magnificent as the hotel is a few blocks from the water. Pool and hot tub are clean. Lounge chairs and chairs by fireplace are a bit dirty. My room was on the 15th floor and could hear chairs being moved around on the rooftop social lounge. It was not a consistent noise, but noticeable when it did occur. Also, (not the hotels fault) there was construction of a building being built next door, I was not in the room most of the day, so it didn't bother me, but it def was a lot of noise starting fairly early.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my time here with my family. It was close by to coffee shops, the beach, dog parks, and little Italy. About a 5 min drive to the gas lamp and Petco Park. The front desk was very helpful and the valets were great. There was a nice bar area on the 16th floor and they had a great gym! The only downside was all the construction going on and that was our view from the 15th floor. The pool was getting the dusty debris from the construction and it was a little nerve wracking watching the piles of wood being carried over the pool with people swimming. Overall loved this hotel and will come back again.

Yelp
Stayed at Carte recently for a convention. The staff, service, and ambiance was perfect! Really enjoyed the stay ! Hot tub and pool were clean and well taken care of, the patio server was amazing as well as Raul who took great care of us at the restaurant and went above and beyond!! Highly recommend staying here.

Yelp
This check in process was good. I bypassed the check in desk. But room 909 smells like sewer when you flush the toilet. It reminded me of the 5 star hotel in China. What a joke that was and what a joke this I was. I have stayed here Multiple times. I love the location but $56 for cake and no option for self parking is very seep! No mater if the company pays for it! For that reason, I would never stay here again! I age stayed at this places through the pandemic but not agains. Uber would have been cheaper.

Yelp
Nice small hotel in Little Italy. This was my second stop in California. I had an almost three drive from Los Angeles on my way here to San Diego. This hotel and the city was a complete 180 from the Intercontinental Downtown LA, it was a good change, though. This hotel was a lot smaller, but with a cool small town vibe. The staff here was super friendly. I had a couple long conversations with a few staffers here, who were extremely informative and cordial. The hotel itself wasn't the largest, but was ample. They provide breakfast (with an up charge) had a pool and a gym. The hotel was very clean and everything seemed very well kept. My sole complaint was for whatever reason, my room wasn't cleaned after my first day. We left the sign that the room needed to be serviced. I still left a tip for housekeeping, but maybe I shouldn't have as we were left without clean towels and bedding for our second night.

Yelp
This review is for the rooftop bar/restaurant. The ambiance is very chill and fun. Views are absolutely stunning of downtown and the water. Unfortunately we went on a cloudy day, so we couldn't see much in the way of sunset. The food is pretty good- we got a bunch of appetizers and split them. Definitely a casual environment and fun for a gathering or happy hour. The most unfortunate part of the entire night was the fact that they could only split the bill 3 ways despite there being 6 of us. After a few drinks, it gets a little confusing on who pays who, how much, etc. It is 2023- they should be able to split more or have the small kiosk to bring to the table so that everyone can pay individually. It also took them forever for us to close out- folks needed to leave for childcare and our waitress was nowhere to be found.

Yelp
Unexpected trip to little italy. Beautiful hotel and Biance "B" at the front desk took our experience to the next level. Best customer service I've had at any Hilton product. Thanks again!!

Yelp
I'm a fan. Well appointed with a contemporary, modern vibe - Carte Hotel strikes the right balance of local and upscale. Friendly staff upon check-in, awesome access to Fit Athletic gym, and multiple dining options inside. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
This Little Italy hotel is excellent. Our one-night stay left us thoroughly pleased with our experience. Quick and friendly valet service, a fast check-in process, and a delightful visit to the pool with drinks contributed to our satisfaction. The area is highly walkable, offering plenty of activities. Visited in August 2023.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel located just 2 blocks from Little Italy which makes it an ideal location if you want to save money taking an uber to and from. Not to mention it allows you a little workout before you devour that plate of pasta at one of the many restaurants there. Once you walk into the lobby you'll notice it's contemporary and bold design and the high ceilings. A very open space with the front desk ready to greet you. Just a few steps from the main entrance is the bar/restaurant and the elevators which are easy to find. A very clean hotel! What I didn't like was that we'd called the front desk to request for towels one evening which never showed up. We'd reserved a 2 night stay (and this request was on our last night). The following morning I was forced to call the front desk again to request for towels and AGAIN - they failed to arrive. I wasn't impressed with that at all. The best part about this hotel - the location. And yes, Cartè does provide clean and comfortable accommodations at a fair price. The bad part - if you contact the front desk to request for towels or necessities you probably won't get it. That's pretty disappointing.

Yelp
Stayed one night at the Carte for a Wedding. So sacrificed with the hotel and happy the bride picked this hotel for our stay. Very attentive from the beginning, they only velvet cars. Yes, you do pay for parking but it is worth it! Easy check in! The whole building is clean. A lot of light walking through the halls. Our room was so comfy, it didn't feel like you were staying away from home. The decor is very homey, beds, and bedding are so warm and relaxing. Same feel with the restroom. Ice and water machines available down the hall. The hotel has a few bars- roof top and main floor, drinks and simple cold foods. It is very close to Little Italy! Walking distance or Uber to restaurant / bars. If ever in San Diego, I'll stay there again!

Yelp
This is a belated review but my husband and I stayed here during Covid and we felt extremely safe. Everybody was friendly, and we felt well taken care of. They're appetizers up on the terrace were delicious, especially the french fries. The rooms are clean and it was well priced. I would stay here again.
