18 Knockout Spots for Affordable Dining in Portland

"One of the city’s most lauded smash burgers may also be one of its least expensive. This mini-chain of food carts smashes its Painted Hills beef patties with a cast-iron press for ultimate char, slathered with sauce and American cheese; a single burger clocks in at $6, with a $4 “junior” option. Add fries for $4 and stay at $10 or less for lunch; the cart also offers similarly inexpensive things like $6 rockfish sandwiches and $5 chicken nuggets." - Katrina Yentch, Eater Staff

The City of Portland Will Set Aside $269,000 to Relocate the Alder Street Food Carts - Eater Portland

"A prominent food cart pod in Portland, which was home to 55 carts including popular ones like Nong’s Khao Man Gai and the People’s Pig, was shut down for the development of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Efforts are being made to relocate the carts to Ankeny Square in the North Park Blocks with a new development project by Friends of the Green Loop." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Wish all the places had been opened. I was hoping you get tacos. Went at 1pm on a Monday. Got shrimp & grits. Was great but not spicy enough for me, so he gave me some hot sauce for free.

Google
Cartside has become one of my favorite places to visit for food and drinks whether it be for lunch/dinner, or before/after Blazers and Winterhawks games. They have such a wide variety of food carts – shout out to the Thai and Mediterranean carts in particular – and their tap house is one of the best hidden gems in all of Portland. So many great beers and ciders on tap, great craft cocktails with legit bartenders, and their to-go fridge is packed with an incredible selection of unique beers and other beverages (I always try to snag a few new beers I've never tried to-go whenever I stop in). Any time I've recommended this place to friends they always talk about how much they love it after they visit. As much as I'd love to keep it a secret, this place is bound to be a destination. Give 'em a shot, you won't regret it!

Google
Great place to grab a bite to eat from with lots of choices to choose from.

Google
Can't get enough of those Tacos! Sooooooo good! Cartside is full of amazing food and a great place to fuel up on grub and brews before heading to the Rose Garden. I highly recommend.

Google
Visited Cartside food carts and was pleasantly surprised. The shawarma stands out – a delightful medley of flavors and textures. Opted for the classic plate with lamb, succulent and perfectly seasoned, and the chicken variant didn't disappoint either. A must-try spot for authentic tastes!

Google
I live down the street from this place and it’s so good! The bartender Miguel is awesome! (Even though he likes the lame dodgers…) he’s always playing the best music, one weekend his band was playing here and I could swear they sounded just like blink182!! Great food carts here too, if I could give it 6 stars I could.

Google
Chill vibes thar welcome all. Great place to grab a cider, ear from the array of food carts from Asian cuisine to Tasty tacos.

Google
The food at the food trucks is great. But it seems like there's always new food trucks coming in and old food trucks moving out. There have been some great trucks that My co-workers and I loved, then we went in, and they just weren't there anymore. Boss Po Boys, The sushi cart, The Mac shack, The list goes on. Great vendors that serve great food. There one day, gone the next. Apparently, it's because They can't make enough money to survive there. There's absolutely no place to park, and when you finally do find a spot, you are usually within 2 ft of an unhoused encampment. I realize that's not cartsides fault, but their pricing is way too expensive for the neighborhood in which Are located. Happy hour prices for a beer and a shot are $18. For a beer and a shot, in an area of town that no one wants to be in. Know Your role cart side For a couple to go there for a date night, It cost well over $100, and you're not in an environment that justifies it. Look around, and see where you're located. You're not in lake Oswego You're not in West Linn Your pricing is not in line with your location. You are a neighborhood corner bar at best, and you should serve a shot and a beer for 10 bucks or less. They should have specials with the food trucks, where people can come in at happy hour, get something from the food trucks, a shot and a beer, for 20 bucks That's the area you are located in If you want to charge the prices you're charging, go somewhere else. Respect the neighborhood you're in You're trying to be the ram, on a goat farm

Yelp
Great place to pregame before heading over to the Moda Center. Two drinks for the price of one at the Moda. Food carts choices at good. We got food from the far back corner cart. Everything was really good and fast cook time. Kid friendly. Lots of gluten free choices. Three cider options and lots of mixed drink choices. Many group seating spots and covered picnic tables outside.

Yelp
Great place, surprised it wasn't busier on a summer Friday night. Good food options, excellent cocktails and plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.

Yelp
If you are ever in need of dinner before an event at the moda center this is the place for you!! I needed to grab a bite but there is not a lot of options around the rose quarter until a friend and I stumbled upon this place! Only a few places away from the moda center it is an easy walk there! They have lots of seating both inside and out, covered for the winter months! I went to the shawarma truck on my last visit and it was great! Perfect for the quick bite before a game!

Yelp
Cool pod off of Williams, they've got several good trucks like Ko Sisters Korean food truck and Mumbo gumbo that's open later, a Thai, taco, shawarma and sushi cart plus a couple more even i think. They've got a mid sized courtyard as well as room inside the bar plus a lot of room on their second floor patio too. The bar offers some beer + shot specials too.

Yelp
This place never lets me down! The taps rotate and change out so you'll always find a new favorite, and the staff is so so so great and friendly! The food carts are always a hit, we always try to go on days when there isn't a game going on as it's right down the street from the moda center but if that's where you're going then it's a great place to stop by before or after the game for a drink. They've got fun stuff through the week like Mario kart tournaments and Karaoke so any day of the week is a good day to stop in. V chill spot

Yelp
Food Truck Park. Great idea!! Options (7) for whatever taste you're feeling. Sushi, Thai, Burgers, Sandwiches, Shawarma, Seoul Food, Mexican are the current available trucks. Outdoor seating (picnic tables) are available or you can get things To Go. Inside seating is a TapHouse option, as well. I tried two places: Shawarma and Phi Phi Island Thai. The Shawarma Meat Saj with chicken was delicious & large enough to split, if you want to come with a friend and share each others choices. I like that you could pick meat choices for the wrap (Saj). They have chicken, lamb, beef, falafel or a combo. I enjoyed half my Saj at the picnic tables and the other half (heated in microwave) several days later. Both times, this wrap was delicious. I tried the baklava the next day and was not impressed. Not much flavor to it. Ended up throwing half of it away. At the Phi Phi Island Thai I ordered the coconut milk bubble tea. It was pretty good. Had a good flavor, but bubbles did not taste fresh. ++Food Choices --Customer Service --Music choice playing on speakers --Odd foul smell while waiting for food

Yelp
We got shrimp and grits and gumbo at mumbo gumbo, really good, the best we have had outside the southern u.s. We also got memphis mac and cheese at the mac shack, not a fan it was spiced noodles with some cheese and bland chicken on top. The lady running mumbo gumbo was sweet and super friendly. Ambiance is food cart pod, small indoor space, the outdoor space has nice composite picnic benches, we will definitely be back for more gumbo!

Yelp
The actual carts here are great, the food cart pod itself is just okay. Outdoor seating is covered but not in a way that actually shields you from the rain. Indoors is really cramped and just felt kinda hot and poorly ventilated. Not bad, but certainly not the best pod I've ever seen either

Yelp
I love this food cart pod! It's a great place to grab some food and drinks before any event at Moda Center since it's only about a 15 minute walk to the arena from here. They have a variety of food trucks to choose from so if you're with a group, everyone can choose whatever they want. My favorites have been the burger place and the Korean place, but I plan on trying more. Another great thing is that there is lots of seating! They have indoor seating and heated outdoor seating as well.

Yelp
Lots of different food carts in here can't wait to come back and try them all they have a fire going on in the middle very pretty

Yelp
A food truck stop area located in Portland. The outdoor area is spacious seating area. Have a variety of food to choose from. The pineapple fried rice was good and the Thai iced tea was good, however the chicken from the vendor wasn't the best. Overall a nice kitten area

Yelp
This area is amazing. Dope prices, dope food, dope beer, but most of all dope people. The guys that work the bar are so down to earth and make this place wonderful!

Yelp
This is a great spot. Good beer and cider selection, and a variety of food carts that all serve up deliciousness. They have covered outdoor seating and indoor seating.

Chia S.

Yelp
There are so many different options for food and every truck is delicious! I love that you can go with a group of people and there's an option for everyone and every craving. The bartenders are some of the best bar staff in Portland. They're friendly and engaging, really know their local beers and the specialty cocktail list never disappoints. Also, stopping by here to grab a bite and some drinks before a concert or a game at the MODA is an absolute must if you don't want to spend the $15/beer at the MODA

Yelp
New hidden PDX food pod! :) It's right next to the highway so you can hear the cars but the music played by the carts mask a lot of the noise. There's about 7 food carts with some outdoor benches and indoor seating. They also serve beer inside. We mainly came here because we heard there was a new Korean food cart here but we'll probably come back so we can check out the waffle sandwich and Thai carts. The food at the Korean food cart ("Ko Sisters Seoul Food") was pretty good. We ordered some of Korean street food-style items and Korean fried chicken. Very flavorful and not too spicy. I sort of wish the Korean fried chicken was a little crispier but it still tasted good. P.S. There's plenty of free parking in the surrounding neighborhood!

Yelp
Great selection of trucks. Easy to find, easy to park and really good dishes! Went back a second time to try more!

Daniel F.

Yelp
Love the food trucks, love the atmosphere. Unfortunately you can ruin anything with cringy metal-emo-core music playing obnoxiously loud. I really don't get it, we were the only ones outside and we asked the bartender to turn it down a bit. He didn't, we won't be back.

Yelp
Love this spot. They have a great selection of food carts with tasty food, and great deals in the taphouse with a variety of beers and ciders. Also love that this location is super close to the Moda Center so that I can use it as a spot to grab food and drinks before Blazer games and concerts! Will definitely continue to come here for years to come!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite food cart pods in Portland! My partner and I come here all the time for PP Thai, but they also have a ton of other amazing carts like Poblano Pepper and Ko Sisters. It's a bit hidden if you're not looking for it, but the building is right across from the Toyota dealership on N Williams. They've also got a cute little taphouse with beers, cocktails, and well drinks, as well as a cool dispensary called Tetra Cannabis.

Yelp
We were passing through on our way to Vancouver and decided to try this place out. A friend of ours stops there daily because he is addicted to the Korean food at cart side but also enjoys he can take clients there and appeal to everyone's appetite. Upon arriving we were already amazed with the tidiness of the area once inside cart side. It's very welcoming and spacious. Each cart had appealing menus so everyone in the family was pleased to be able to get exactly what they wanted and didn't have to settle. My kids did the pasta cart which was totally yummy as if from Italy itself. My husband went with the Thai food cart and thought the chicken skewers were just the right heat in regards to the spicy request. This cart will ask you to choose your heat tolerance on a scale of 1-5. We went with three and it was so tasty. Just the right spice. We then found ourselves seated inside the brew house tap room getting a mixed spicy margarita which was again just right on the spice and extremely tasty. So much I had to get two. So many wonderful brews to choose from and all around great atmosphere. One of my new favorite hidden gems.

Yelp
We specifically stopped here to experience a food truck lunch with the family and they didn't disappoint at all. Our huge family tried the Thai, Burgers, Mediterranean, and Mexican foods at this spot and really liked all them!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch at one of the carts and decided beer sounded good. Great choices. Friendly service. We ordered a couple of pilsners, both great choices. They keep the place clean, even the sidewalk. TVs for sports fan on silent. Good music that is not too loud. All in all, they have created a good space for a meal.

Yelp
What you have for chars before a ballgame really doesn't matter much if you're mostly about getting a little bulk filler before the main event. One place here is purported to have "slight constancy issues", and I'll leave it up to you to as to whether you'd want to brave the results. "Upon arriving we were already amazed with the tidiness of the area once inside cart side." claims another pleased customer. Being amazed prior to arrival may or may not happen to you, but I wouldn't want to take sides on that issue. "There's about 7 food carts ...", or to regress slightly in time, 'there be's about 7 food carts'. The food carts at CARTSIDE serve a wide variety of tasty options, but there is some evidence that eating here may impair your ability to form a sentence in English. may be seriously impaired after coming here. Oh! The beer! Yeah, maybe that's it! Or, or, or it's a vortex where grammar and syntax are forever blasted from your grey matter by .. by .. by .. ALIENS!
google avatar

Gaghan H.

Yelp
The Greek food from Yani Yabba is always delicious. However, it does have slight constancy issues depending on who is cooking that day. We typically order the lamb Giro's, chicken Shawarma or falafel. It usually takes about 15 minutes for orders to be filled because every thing is cooked to order.

Yelp
This is my second time coming here this week: Ko Sisters has a delicious bulgogi burrito! Tonight I had the pleasure of eating at Yaba Yabaa. Massive portions and absolutely delicious! Loved the lamb gyro and the baba ghanouj!!!! Definitely becoming a regular stop for us!

Todd S.

Yelp
Great addition to south Eliot, and for the northbound commuters on Williams. For such a small lot, you'll appreciate the meal options, and definitely the beer selection. Poblano has several veggie choices; the soyrizo burrito was great, and refreshingly spiced. Also have tried the veggie focaccia from L'Unico--so flavorful (sundried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, ... yum). Sizzle Pie and Pine State are just around the corner, and of course they're great at what they do, but those aren't exactly the healthiest menus for frequent dining, so it's great to have Cartside down the street now. No Portland, there's no coffee cart here (yet?), but don't panic, there are multiple shops nearby for a caffeine chaser (Tiny's, Breadwinner, Stingray...).
