The Best Meat-and-Three Restaurants in Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Billed as the “best soul food in Powder Springs,” Carzell’s Kitchen is a small counter-service operation that packs a serious punch. The menu is not lacking in options for a meat and three, including proteins like chicken livers, pork chops, grilled whiting, and chop sirloin with gravy. Meats can come seasoned with salt and pepper, garlic, lemon pepper, or blackened. Choose two vegetable sides for your plate, including black-eyed peas, collards, fried okra, yams, or fried cabbage. The plate also comes with two cornbread muffins or a dinner roll. Like any good meat and three, there’s even a Southern vegetable plate. Make sure to order banana pudding for dessert or the peach cobbler, if it’s on special that day." - Sarra Sedghi

It's the pork chops that be calling me back. Tried them fried and smothered. Think I prefer them in that gravy. Went too late the last time, and they were out of that fantastic cornbread, my bad. My favorite sides are the Mac, yams, and blackeyed peas. Reasonable prices and convenient location. Take out only.

Customer service was A-1 greeted with a smile we even talked about my hoodie and different bands. I had the pork chops, Mac and cheese, rice and gravy , I added a side of greens. The pork chops were good you can have them grilled, smothered, or fried and you can choose your seasoning lemon pepper, salt , pepper and one other I forgot but it’s listed . I put one between two pieces of white bread with mayo when I got home and was very satisfied. The rice and gravy was bland but I was able to spruce it up. Greens were canned wish they were real collard greens . Mac and cheese could have been a little better but it all tied together. I will be back to try other items .

I gave this restaurant 3 stars because, while it could have been better, I understand we ordered close to closing time which might explain the issues. The person who took our order was friendly and helpful, but the food we received was disappointing. I had ordered a 2-piece whiting meal with fried okra and mac n cheese, but was told they only had 1-piece whiting with french fries available. I was fine with that and added two cornbread muffins to go with it. However, when I got home and opened my order, I was greeted with a bunch of small unattractive pieces of fish that look like chicken livers or gizzards--nothing like the whole piece of whiting I was expecting. The fish smelled old and fishy, and most of it had an edible black fish skin that I had to remove to even make it halfway decent. Only one piece tasted like fresh fish, which made me think this restaurant could have been much better under different circumstances. Nowhere on the menu did it mention anything about "fish nuggets" or "fish pieces"--it was misleading, and I would have preferred to be told they were out of whiting rather than received what felt like scraps from the bottom of the bag. The mentality seemed to be, "it's late so whatever--we'll just give her this." On the plus side the french fries and cornbread muffins were good, so there is some potential here. I would be willing to give this place another try, but next time I'll come earlier in the day when, hopefully, the kitchen is stocked and the staff has more energy to care about the quality of the food.

I Tried this place yesterday. Their Food was really good. Especially there Lemonade. It was better Than Chick-fil-A.... 🙂 And I Never Ever Say that about anywhere. The Ordering process was different. A Customer told me its a much better experience if you call in the order. I didn't know that. 🤔 I Wait a little time for thr food. But The Food was really good and hot. The CSR was good there too.

So first time trying this place and I'll say it's just OK. I had the wings with macaroni and collards. The first problem is I'm 100 % sure these are not fresh greens. I'm sure they are from a can, they taste like Margaret Holmes Greens. I eat collards all the time and I know the difference between canned collards and real ones. This macaroni and cheese was not good at all It tasted like box macaroni that they put some shredded cheese on top of. I couldn't eat it. The wings were great, loved the taste of the chicken. So overall I felt it was just OK. The price isn't too bad but I don't wanna pay fresh soul food prices for canned food. That chicken though... It's really good.

Was in the mood for country fried steak and checked out Carzell’s Kitchen in Powder Springs, only 4 miles from home. They were out so I asked for breaded chicken tenders over mashed potatoes (instead of rice) with gravy. Macaroni & cheese and collards as my two sides with cornbread muffins. Everything is seasoned absolutely perfectly, served hot and fresh. Also ordered off the Kids Menu shrimp & green beans with homemade lemonade & cornbread muffin for my grandson. This is Real Soul Comfort food. Generous portions, prepared fresh. A much better alternative to West Cobb Diner or Cracker Barrel in my opinion.
